Sanogo Again! Welbeck shines & Campbell Talks Competition…

Morning all.

Both Spain and England played last night.

England beat Switzerland 2-0 with our new boy playing the entire match and scoring both England goals. Hopefully he will return full of confidence and start scoring goals for his club. Nice to see him make a dash to the sideline and celebrate his goal with his new Arsenal team-mates, Calum Chambers and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

A lot of fuss is being made about his first goal as it went in off of his shin but who cares how they go in, as long as they do. Welbeck’s second was superb though, with the ball at his feet, he waited and waited and then fired home into the corner. A really good goal…

Jack Wilshere played 73 minutes and had a pretty good game. Even the pundits are agreeing with me, so it must be true!

Joe Hart made a couple of top saves to keep England in the game and I hope that’s his best performance now for a couple of weeks…!

Spain battered Macedonia 5-1 and without Santi Cazorla who didn’t make it off the bench. Good as he’ll return to London fit for Saturday.

Talking of Santi, Joel Campbell has been singing his praises:

Arsène Wenger has many good options to line up a great attacking force. I must say that Santi Cazorla has some exceptional technical skills. He can take corners or free-kicks equally with his right or left foot. That’s some technique! That is a very unusual thing to see and it has left me astonished.

On his own game:

I presume that every attacking player in the squad will fight with me for a starting place. But I am my biggest competitor – I have to train hard and get better day after day. Being here is a great opportunity for me.

I feel that I can contribute with speed, goals and dribbling skills. I am a player capable of playing either on the right or left flanks or in the middle.

It’s down to the manager to decide which of those three positions I am needed most in. I just have to do my best anywhere I play.

A very mature approach by our young Costa Rican….

With Mesut Ozil a doubt for Saturday, perhaps Campbell will finally get a starting place and at least we all know he’ll track back and help out if and when needed and no doubt at times against City, that will be needed. Not too many though I hope, we are at home and we really need to win all our matches at The Emirates.

There are a few more internationals tonight, Chile v Haiti, Andorra v Wales and Czech Repubic v Holland, so I hope that Alexis, Aaron Ramsey and Tomas Rosicky all make it through without injury.

Finally, Yaya Sanogo scored again last night for the French under 21 side against Iceland making it three goals in two games..

That’s it for another day, enjoy the sunshine….

Morning all, thank fook the interdull is over, Danny Boy, keep bangin’ them in.Good to see Campbell, has such a good attitude and is determined to stake his claim, when the opportunity arrives…If it ever does, that is…

  2. rico says:

Much more mature than the Frenchman Bt, and he’s younger isn’t he..

Surely Campbell has to get a chance soon..

Not quite over though, three more games tonight and hope none of our boys play too long but I bet they all do as they are Euro qualifiers..

Rosicky needs to quit international football..

  3. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, i think 6 months or so between them, Yaya slightly younger…Forgot about Holland tonight, it’s live on itv4.

  4. rico says:

Silly me, of course he must be as he’s still playing under 21 football, shame he’s not doing that for us… lol

And Chile, Wales… Hopefully Chile won’t need Alexis…

  5. rico says:

Scott, ‘shin’ always makes me laugh as a couple of years back I had to have an x-ray on mine. The daft GP had spelt it wrong and the guy taking the x-ray said he’d not photographed a chin for a while….

    Doh…

  6. esxste says:

Anyone notice how Jack doesn’t seem to “go down to easily” or “keep the ball too long” when playing for England?

Those commentators and pundits must have keener eyes than mine to see what he’s doing differently…

  7. rico says:

esxste, the pundits often really hammer Jack, perhaps they were concentrating on piking holes in Welbeck too much…

Scott, it wasn’t… 😉 Nothing major though…. lol

  8. Nickie says:

I actually thought Jack was poorer last night than against Norway. He does not suit that defensive diamond role. Prefer him in a midfield 3 carrying the ball. Jack is a lot fitter now though and you notice this in his play. Like esxste says he doesn’t stay down for long, he’s up and running more.

Welbeck you beaut….Haven’t seen such grace in a finish like his second one since…. lol

  9. Nickie says:

Agree Lee, but it’s funny how he does that when he’s further up the pitch in a position he’s comfortable in lol. Roy’s tactics although winning the game were strange, Delph further forward than Wilshere, Henderson right wing? lol It looked like a shambles

  10. Joaquim Moreira says:

Jonas probably will sign for Benfica.
    Did we sign anyone today?
will be good if Welbeck score two goals for game, in average…

  11. fat-gun says:

    Hi HHers, Rico, slow day.
Now the whole world wants Welbeck to score 100 goals in one season so that Scholes, carragher and all the twisted, sour heaping, idiotic, cnuts will say Wenger ruined the golden boy when he scores only 22 goals in the first season…….

  12. rogerbij says:

Well…. considering Welbeck has never scored more than 9 in a premier league campaign, I think a good return would be around 16, and maybe 20 in all competitions ~ roughly what Giroud managed last season.

  13. esxste says:

Nickie… I was more making the observation that Wilshire seems to get fouled more often when in an Arsenal shirt, and criticism for having the audacity to try play football by the pundits. And sometimes he does stay down.

I agree the tactics were a bit strange… but I’m glad we’ve finally swept away Lampard and Gerrard.

It might be too soon for Chambers right now, but I think when he’s ready, he won’t have any trouble walking into the starting line up for England.

  14. bondex says:

Evening rico… if given the oppurtunity, im backing welbeck to score 18 EPL goals. We create so many chances so why not ?

  15. rogerbij says:

Why not indeed bondex! Im slowly getting excited by the idea of our front line – speed to burn when we have Welbeck, Walcott, Sanchez and not forgetting Ox!

  16. Wavy says:

    Am I last again?
I mean, who needs the world class midfielder, Aaron Ramsey in their first team? We’re brimful with attacking MF’s! Diaby will do a great job……….if fit!

  17. Adam says:

Yes Rico. Unless there is a master plan in place so fiendishly clever that it is unfathomable to us mortals, one might think that someone was playing fast and loose with the squad. 🙂
Expect the best but plan for the worst obviously makes no sense.

  18. Nickie says:

Ramsey didn’t have the best of games, tried to end the night show boating and paid the price. Silly guy needs to keep it simple, 1 good season and he’s getting too big for his boots already. Needless skill, trying the “hard” pass. Based on this season I think I would have started Flam, Jack and Caz anyway (bearing in mind Ozil and Arteta are injured)…Would also like to see Rosicky involved at some point

  19. rico says:

Morning Nickie, I didn’t see the game so can’t comment on the way Ramsey played..

Can’t see Tomas being involved at all on Saturday, he’s just played 90 mins in both games for his country, a 3rd match so soon would be hard for him…

  20. Nickie says:

    Morning Rico,

    Hope you’re well…

I feel sorry for Rosicky, he really is a player that ups the tempo when we’re looking so slow and predictable. Not sure what it is with Ramsey, could be a confidence issue. Hopefully his injury isn’t long term.

  21. rico says:

    Morning Scott.

Nickie, I personally think Ramsey is doing just fine, the pitch last night was awful and every player has complained about it. That could be the reason why little came off for AR. Bale said it was slow and the ball just stuck to the turf..

Re Rosicky, until he puts his club before country, he’ll probably always be a bit part player. A great shame as he really gives our midfield something very different and special…

  22. Scott From Oz says:

    Hi Nickie.
No need for me to add anything on Tommy…I love him on the pitch.
On Aaron….when he came back after injury last season, it took a while to find his feet, so I hope a week or two down the track his touch will be back….
