Sami Khedira to follow Alexis Sanchez. Ivan Gazidis confirms he's working hard on more signings….

Ding Bloody Dong!!!!!!

Eye Candy at last.....
Our new number 17…..

Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger said:

As many people have seen during the World Cup this summer, Alexis is a fantastic footballer and we are delighted that he is joining us at Arsenal Football Club.

Alexis will add power, creativity and much quality to our squad and we are all looking forward to him joining up with us in a few weeks.

He has consistently produced top-quality performances at the highest level for a number of seasons now and we are all excited to see him integrate into the Arsenal squad.

I’m sure all Arsenal supporters will join me in welcoming Alexis to our club.

Sorry boys, but he's hot hot hot.....
Sorry boys, but he’s hot hot hot…..

Alexis Sanchez said:

I’m so happy to be joining Arsenal, a club which has a great manager, a fantastic squad of players, huge support around the world and a great stadium in London.

I’m looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and to be playing for Arsenal in the Premier League and Champions League.

I will give my best to Arsenal and want to make all the supporters happy.

Ok, I’ll calm down now….

No I won’t, I’m absolutely thrilled, over the moon, ecstatic…. All of those things and I bet every single Arsenal fan feels the same…

Other clubs wanted him, big other clubs wanted him but the player knew what he wanted, us and Arsenal knew who they wanted, him!!!

And it’s only July 11th!!

Ivan Gazidis has confirmed that Sanchez is the first of what could be a few top class players:

We’ve pulled off a good one with Alexis Sanchez, but there’s more work to be done.

I’m not going to talk about it until it’s done. I’ve got to get back, we’ve got more work to do.

He’s right, we need more and one who could be next in is Sami Khedira. Suggestion in Spain is he doesn’t want to stay in Madrid and if we could get somewhere near his wage ‘demands’ – he’d be ours.

He’s got International team-mates here and having just seen Sanchez snapped up, we are looking good, very good. Why wouldn’t he wanted to sign? I would, but then I am biased….

Khedira is a top top player, we are witnessing what he does for Germany but he does like to get forward at every opportunity. Should he sign for us, wouldn’t Wenger have to clip his wings a bit?

Or do Arsenal have a very different kind of player lined up, maybe Morgan Schneiderlin, just to keep the French balance in the side… lol

Talking of French, hopefully we’ll soon get confirmation that Mathieu Debuchy has signed too.

I haven’t a clue what Ivan has planned but if he’s working hard to get more top signings through the door, then that’s got to be good and for once, he’s still got 6/7 weeks left to get them….

Are you clapping??

That’s it for another day, have a great one……

Morning rico, morning all. A most enjoyable post to read, must have been for you to write as well? We now have the 2nd and 6th most expensive Premier League signings, who would have thought it?

Still feels like xmas, this video sums up the mood:

    https://vine.co/v/MP3MgiZIQba

  2. Nickie says:

    Happy! lol

Great post, Great signing. Club is oozing positivity atm who doesn’t want to sign for Arsenal!

    Morning all…

Told you Wath…there was method behind my positive thinking lol

  3. rico says:

    Thanks Andrew, Nickie…

I was smiling whilst writing that’s for sure…

Couldn’t clap as well though, that was a bit much even for me… lol

  4. rogerbij says:

I woke up this morning, bounce in my step, listening to music as I rode through the park grinning like a child. And then I thought, what is different on this fine day? Ah yes, WE SIGNED ALEXIS SANCHEZ!

  5. rico says:

Join the club roger, I think there are millions of Gooners feeling the same….

Well done to the negotiating team at Arsenal for getting this deal done!!

  6. rogerbij says:

Indeed Rico, and well done to HH for getting the ball rolling on Sanchez. You know yourself good things start here 😉

  7. rogerbij says:

Actually, you know, I havent been this excited about a signing since Dennis Bergkamp. I dont think Im going overboard with that one.

  8. McRaymonds says:

    Gud post…

If Ivan Gazidis is really serious ov what he’s saying then I think he shud make it quicker cuz i can’t wait for the season to start.. COYG

  9. rico says:

🙂 roger, thank you re the good things on HH, not quite sure it got the ball rolling on Suarez though… lol

Me neither re Bergkamp, although getting Sol was quite an exciting one, but Dennis pips it for me…

  10. emma says:

    Good Sanchez everyone,
    Good post rico,

I’ ve got this eerie feeling that Khedira is the midfielder we are looking to sign. All signs point to him. His rejection of an extension with madrid, Lineker’s comment on twitter yesterday, Poldi latest instagram post yesterday as well as him pulling his pants up in Germany’s training pic yesterday 😉 😉

If Wenger can turn arteta into a CDM, I don’t see why he can’t do same to Khedira but would still love to have Schneiderlin 😉

  11. AndrewH says:

Yes rico, video made me chuckle, even Ozil’s smiling! It was tweeted by Ian Poulter last night.

  12. Bill says:

I don’t want to put a dampener on it but may I urge a little caution people please? This is the Premership, the toughest league in the world. Let’s see him settled here before we get too excited. And let’s actually see these other signings too. #cautiously_optimistic-ah_dammit,_extremely_so!!!

  13. McRaymonds says:

If Ivan Gazidis is really serious about what he is saying then I thisnk he should make it quicker cuz i can’t wait for the season to start..

  14. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

We fans can certainly encourage the board by snapping up Sanchez jerseys fast. Any clue on numbers sold so far?

  15. Luznic says:

now where is Stan……Good Morning Rico and all gooners Wath your optimism eventually got its reward……I am so excited

  16. Scott From Oz says:

Tai, there’s a small one headed down under….my son was all over it when he heard we’d signed the guy 🙂
Yes, he knew who he was….I was impressed lol

  17. Scott From Oz says:

Luznic, Stan is on his way to Victorias Secret.
In one night he has used up Hollands entire stock of male underpants!

  18. frednerk says:

    Morning Rico and All,
All your post are good rico.
but this is the best one I have read.
For the last two seasons,if I were to meet wenger in the street,
not to sure wether I would shake his hand or his wring his neck.
    Today I feel like singing,
“We all live in a wenger wonderland”

  19. Nickie says:

Did Wengers Speech at the Kit unveil with the music give you goose pimples lol. Even the countdown, Wengers speech made me feel great. Arsenal is a wonderful powerful club. Special things will happen

  20. Luznic says:

Tai has he been truly assigned the number 17 shirt? and somehow we need Arsenal to get this jerserys out of the UK for us not for the gooners in UK to enjoy let the Sanchez fever go round the world

  21. ktr7 says:

    YYYYEEEEEEESSSSS!!!!Get in!!!!welcome to Arsenal Debuchy…

I hear this Alexis chap is decent though 😉

  22. tsgh says:

    All hail Herr Wenger!

    Excellent post…
But in the world where equality is demanded; you need to place Carol V or Kim K next to the shirtless El Nino. 😛

  23. Luznic says:

Scott what has he been doing with underpants?? he should be getting out of them trying to pee at the gates of whitehouse……lol

  24. tsgh says:

Lol Kt was wondering where you were since you have been asking for AS for awhile now?

All AW had to do was read HH; sack all the scouts.. 🙂

  25. Nickie says:

This is Diaby’s season, I think Wengers got big plans for him if he stays fit…Likely to see Flamini and Arteta miss a lot of games in favour of Wilshere, new CM and Diaby

  26. ktr7 says:

Am sooo hhhaaappy ts.I was afraid to wake up today to find that it was all a dream.top marks to Gazidis and Law who receive a lot of stick.Even the spanish press praised law for getting it done in record time.

  27. agirlagunner says:

Boo!! Still smiling from ear to ear. 🙂

rico, I’m still so overjoyed. And how upbeat does your post sound? 😛

  28. rico says:

Thanks Ts, Kt. I didn’t write too much about the new boy Kt because you said you wanted to.

Don’t forget, short, snappy and exciting post, just like the player… lol

  29. Tai Emeka Obasi says:

Luznic, yeah…17 is it. One good thing…the club didn’t wait to see if 7 or 9 could be available…means both Poldi and Rosicky are staying. Also Carzola’s statements don’t portray any player wanting to leave…

Love to see RVP’s face lining up against us next season…especially if Khedira joins…or rather when…I trust Wenger now, in transfers , I mean.

  30. rico says:

Hi agag, upbeat, me, you sure…. 😉

I’ve tried to stay positive, I really have since we won the FA Cup and truly believed we have a great summer. Ok, Sanchez is pure class, but we need a few more yet….

  31. allezkev says:

    Morning All

Morning Rico, great post and great pics… 😉

Wavy, Canadian Cheddar mate, it’s blows away the cobwebs.
Jacobs crackers and a glass of cider (or Cava 😀 ) just the job…

Off to read the post 😉

  32. agirlagunner says:

rico, maybe the FA Cup trophy finally convinced Kroenke that shiny things are great things, lol.

  33. Scott From Oz says:

Fred, there should never be need to.
    Ginge, I spoke to Oz.
He’s ok and should be catching up with us later today.

  34. ktr7 says:

You know me well Agag.am trying to contain my happiness right now.he is a fantasy player for me.i really rate the guy.I had also said Mesut was the best #10 in the world before we signed him…maybe Wenger listens to me.i will throw another name in the hat…Javi Martinez 🙂

  35. agirlagunner says:

Kev, I love cheeses, too. We have the worst sort of plastic tasting processed cheeses, “Eden” is the name of the brand. 🙂 There are not many local cheese makers, but groceries here stock up on many other variants from all over the world, so we are alright. 🙂

  36. rico says:

Maybe agag. Or maybe all the money in the bank made him think he could spend a bob or to, finally….

  37. rico says:

AR served a purpose agag – just a shame others didn’t work harder to make it stay up and running…

  38. agirlagunner says:

rico, the wallpaper is making me smile, btw. 🙂 Or maybe, rico, AW made it a part of his contract; that he would be allowed to buy big, for a change.

  39. McRaymonds says:

Lars Bender, Sami Khedira and Schneiderline(correct my spellings) which of them is truely solid for us

  40. chrom. says:

Shame I can’t watch these superstars like u guys week in week out at the emirates!!but hey,I’m over the moon o the same!!!great times to be a gunner!!!

  41. rico says:

agag, or Stan made sure AW would support spending big as part of the 3 year deal. I’m sure the board have wanted us to sign players before this window, just old Ebenezer has poked his nose in too much…

I know which way around I think it is… lol

  42. agirlagunner says:

This is AR in a way rico, plus loads of others. 😛 😛 More opinions mean more fun, although it does get heated in here sometimes.

Haha, KT. 🙂 Me, I’ve always just liked Torres. rico has always been a Villa fan. And for a time a fan of de Gea, hahaha, rico. 😛

  43. tsgh says:

Agag- Goonie is preparing his excuse for us as we speak. 😀

God to hear Scott… I want him back with all his doom.lol

I think Micko drank himself to oblivion too…

  44. Nickie says:

    Mcraymonds….

Schniederlin to do a proper defensive job, Prem experience, home grown and young

Khedira more box to box, UCL experience, Full german international pedigree, last year of contract with real probably a better deal (slightly) Can be disciplined to sit deeper.

I like them both, but to answer your question our heads would say Schniederlin but our hearts say Khedira, let the big signings keep rolling in

  45. McRaymonds says:

Thanx guys.. Imo i wud go for Khedira cuz of his CL experience and judging from world cup semis..

  46. agirlagunner says:

Stilton and port, Kev. 🙂 When I am traveling, cheeses are the easiest thing to bring home and give away; everyone loves a good cheese. 😛

rico, but SK is not really a spender either for his American sports franchises, so I don’t know…

  47. Nickie says:

Don’t judge any player on the Brazil vs Germany semi final…that’s dangerous. An 11 a side pub team would have beaten Brazil on Tuesday. Brazil were so bad. Khedira imo does have that quality player feel about him and would terrify more teams than Schniederlin. I would be happy with either though

  48. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – Re: “:) roger, thank you re the good things on HH, not quite sure it got the ball rolling on Suarez though… lol” Thank heavens for that. We missed biting the bullet on that one.

Also, Alexis may be “hot, hot, hot” (no comment from me on that), but it isn’t polite fro a lady to drool in public lol.

What a difference from the vibe of last summer, it’s like night and day. Let’s hope this carries right through the new season.

  49. Geziah says:

After watching the 2010 World Cup three players stood out to me, Gervinho, Ozil and Sanchez. All three have now been signed by Arsenal and two of those are currently Arsenal players. Happy times. This World Cup I’ve been impressed by Gustavo, Cuadrado and Rodriguez.

  50. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – I read that there was a fireball spotted over Australia. Was that your free kick from the other week returning to earth?

  51. agirlagunner says:

ginge, Micko is sad his days of making wrong predictions are numbered, lol. 😛

Good to hear from Oz; where is Dutch though? Is he a “German”now, too?

    Hello, McRaymonds and Nickie. 🙂

  52. Canadian Gooner says:

While I wouldn’t turn up my nose to Khedira, but I would prefer if we signed Schneiderlin. I would surprised if we are weren’t working on multiple candidates for the holding MF position rather than one at a time. We’ll just have to see who emerges – Bender, Gustavo, Khedira, Martinez or Schneiderlin.

  53. agirlagunner says:

CG, I read that bit of news on the fireball, too! 😛 Scott, so was that one of your balls?

  54. Canadian Gooner says:

Sister AGAG – I would say I’m ecstatic more than happy. I’d be turning cart wheels I’m that excited, but I don’t want to spend the beginning of the new season in traction or a full body cast.

Do you agree with Rico’s “hot, hot, hot” assessment of Alexis?

  55. ozgunner says:

evening all – well well what a signing and hats off to Ivan and Wenger – I said to my lads when the link first appeared, this is Wenger’s Suarez. He could be huge for us and be allowed to take his game to an even higher level fed by the mercurial Ozil – happy chappy today

  56. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – I couldn’t resist poking fun as I was sure I could get away with it under the circumstances. At least I’m not the only one wearing rose coloured glasses in the House this summer, unlike last year.

  57. rico says:

    Sorry emma, it’s out now…

Hi Oz, long time no hear, hope all is well….

🙂 Cg, I thought your comment was very funny, made me chuckle… lol

  58. agirlagunner says:

CG, I agree you have to rein in your gymnastic tendencies, we don’t want you sidelined like Diaby. 😀 I think Vidal is cuter, tbh. Lol. 😛

Hello, Mr. Oz. Howdy? 🙂 The Sanchez signing has given us a massive lift; there’s a buzz around the club again; and we are building upon our FA Cup victory; these are very exciting times. 🙂

  59. ozgunner says:

hey Rico – last time i was here you were going on holidays i think – enjoy? Yeah life’s up and downs, quiet at the moment so here i am
    🙂

  60. Canadian Gooner says:

Nickie – I agree with your 12:26 post. One of the game commentators on the feed I was was watching said much the same thing. Germany weren’t supermen, but they did all the right things, all the simple things very well and played for each other as a team. Brazil looked a group of players put together at a drop-in game.

  61. ozgunner says:

AGAG hello to you – takes some heat of of Ozil too – the press were getting ridiculous in fairness to him

  62. ozgunner says:

I see Liverpool have contacted Remy agent – another kick in their ass coming. Still think we will sign him

  63. ozgunner says:

Liverpool will panic buy now guarantee it – no matter what they do they will not replace JAWS in a hurry

  64. Nickie says:

Lets all say thank you to Liverpool 🙂 lol Agag 🙂 Madrid’s number 10 and Barca’s number 9 in the space of a year….Wasn’t we pawning off the likes of Song and Hleb to Barca? lol we definitely got the better deal

  65. Canadian Gooner says:

Isn’t it great to be at the head of the selection line for a change and not having to wait for all the ‘big teams’ to have their picks first? Some of those ‘big teams’ are having to sell before they buy and trying to negotiate lenient payment schedules.

Oh what a difference a year makes.

  66. agirlagunner says:

ozzy, for a club that has one one trophy in nine years (as the media are quick to point out!!!), we have year in year out been among the most valuable sporting teams in the world; maybe, the tide is indeed turning. 😉

Nickie, nobody was really complaining about the Song sale. 😀 But to be fair, Hleb was fantastic for us. I like that he was humble enough to say (after his disastrous spell in Barca) that the grass is not always greener on the other side.

  67. Scott From Oz says:

Is it possible players at massive clubs are now looking at the stability Arsenal offers as a huge attraction?
Who’d have thought we’d attract players from Barca and Real?

  68. rico says:

    Good question Oz.

There has been a few stories suggesting that Santi wants to go back to Spain..

  69. ozgunner says:

AGAG – i see Sanchez as a formation and tactically astute purchase and to me that is a huge relief – we so needed the obvious options he brings – what’s your thoughts on Remy? yes/no?

  70. Nickie says:

I too appreciated Hleb and loved his technical abilities. He wasn’t a real Barca signing though. I’d take Sanchez any day 🙂

  71. rico says:

Could be Scott, together with the standard of players too… Ok we have a few dodgy ones still, but generally, our lot are very good….

  72. ozgunner says:

Scott – fair point that mate – Wenger certainly stands by his men, often to a fault but stand firm he does. Though the post No10 from Madrid and No9 from Barca was a classic – must be a song in there somewhere surely

  73. Scott From Oz says:

    Good call, Rico.
We have quietly assembled a very squad, and with these tops ups, are headed towards it being a great one.
Oz, how good is it taking from those bastards of clubs 🙂

  74. agirlagunner says:

rico, I think Santi would want to be winning everything with us before he thinks of returning to Spain; I think we’ll see even better from him, since he will have a good pre-season. He is capable of some really stunning football; wasn’t he our player of the season two years ago?

Oz, I never really observed either Remy or Schneiderlin. 🙁 I’m sure the other guys in here would have much to say about him though.

  75. frednerk says:

Kev,not sure if it’s just a rumour or nor but,
I hear we are after Zola’s younger brother Gogan.

  76. Bt62 Gooner says:

Afternoon all, one word SANCHEZZZZ!!! great post Rico, watched kit launch, jeez. Maybe old tight wad, stayed away from the money side and was called upon to do his bit at the end. Need a few more through the door of similar quality, then let the party really start.

  77. Canadian Gooner says:

AGAG – ManUre are definitely not the club flavour of the season this year. Just look at the transfer fee they paid Sotton for Shaw and the wages they had to pay him to get him to go to Manchester. All that for an unproven young left back.

They’re definitely not lining up at the dressing room door at Old Toilet anymore.

  78. Nickie says:

Agree with Rico. Remy alone would have been underwhelming….At 8 Million and with the Sanchez signing it just seems right. Fixes quite a lot of our forward options and 35-40mil for the pair isn’t bad business at all

  79. frednerk says:

    Rico your 12.28,
    Never the mind the medical.
Who would wanna be his dentist, imagine putting your hands near his mouth.

  80. rico says:

    BBC Transfer News ‏@BBCTransferNews 4h
Sami Khedira’s agent will meet with Arsenal representatives later today to discuss a move from Real Madrid to Arsenal. #AFC

  81. Kc says:

    Sanchez also highlighted the
    chance of working with Arsene
Wenger as another key factor in
    his decision to spurn the
    advances of Liverpool and
    Juventus.
“I feel happy to be here. I know
this club has a manager that
looks after his players and really
takes care of them. I’m here to
win titles and to achieve as
    much as possible,” he added.
“I know that Arsenal is a club
    that really cares about its
players. I feel I can learn a lot
here. They have a great team
and that’s why I decided to
    arrive.
“I was told [Wenger is] a
manager you can learn a lot
with, who wants to achieve great
    things in football, and that’s
    what helped me make the
    decision to sign for Arsenal.”

    Arseneknows

  82. rico says:

It’s taken a while Scott but at east we are getting there… lol

agag – you’d think so but who knows….

  83. ozgunner says:

Rico- i have to say if i had one transfer and only one this would be mine, i see so much in this guy, really really like him – in fact will hold off and buy his shirt (fingers crossed)

  84. agirlagunner says:

CG, I’m sure LvG would be an improvement over the unfortunate David Moyes, I reckon everyone would be, but without CL football, the Mancs are a much less attractive option. The Mancs have always been silly about their money, just look at how much they pay Shrek. And for the last two seasons, has he really been good value?

Bt62, if the interview of Ivan is anything to judge by, I think a few more are coming through. 🙂 Happy days!

  85. rico says:

Absolutely Nickie and that’s what we have been saying, Remy would be Nik’s replacement, Sanchez is what we’ve needed for a while.

  86. Canadian Gooner says:

Nickie – I’ve seen it suggested that Arsenal wouldn’t announce other player signings at the same time as Sanchez. That way the other get a shot at the limelight and not just to bask in Sanchez’s shadow.

  87. ozgunner says:

Kc – seems like Ozil did much of the ground work on this deal, in fact appears Wenger never spoke to the lad at all maybe? Who cares, deal is done now

  88. Bt62 Gooner says:

Agag, seen IG interview, thought the same, looked excited, happy and dare i say confident. Maybe now we’ll walk the walk and just not talk it.

  89. Canadian Gooner says:

AGAG – I think Shrek has peaked young and is in decline. When Arsenal were linked with him last summer, I was one of the few who were not in favour of our beloved club bidding for him. He is a shadow of the player he was at 18 years old.

  90. ozgunner says:

Love the guy Rico – seriously would make my year if we got this lad – to me if i could sign one player, he would be it. It will be tough, he is in demand everywhere

  91. tsgh says:

😀 Agag.. welll Micko needs to drink more authentic guiness.

I know Khedira was awesome in the semi’s but to me paying £20m and giving him £140kp/w seems very stupid to me considering the player has not played more than 25 games a season in La liga at his age in 3 or so seasons…

In the EPL that will mean less games imho…

I hope to God AW and IG are not going for high profile players for the sake of pleasing media and fans.

Tactical Morgan is 5 years ahead of Sami imho…

  92. Kc says:

Oz..thinks AW must had spoken to him, but like you said..who cares..I think looserpool fans care..they must be smoking -1 Suarez there

  93. agirlagunner says:

rico, none of us really know, I guess. 😛 But wouldn’t it be nice if Santi elevated his game to world-class status while with us? Playing alongside class acts such as Rambo, Sanchez, and a resurrected Theo. 🙂 🙂 Such a thrilling thought.

  94. Nickie says:

CG – Hopefully we get a little surprise each week/2 weeks of the window lol 😉 I read somewhere Wenger is looking for 6 more summer signings….GK, CB, RB, RB, CDM, Alexis, CF…Can we dare to dream? I hope he doesn’t skimp on the CB/GK departments unless TV stays

  95. ozgunner says:

CG – $Rooney – second time tonight i agree – something happened there at United and it changed things even in his attitude to the game

  96. Scott From Oz says:

Rico, it does take a while to build a stadium though 🙂
    No BT, I didn’t.
    Good stuff???

  97. Canadian Gooner says:

Well the sun is up, so it time for this nocturnal poster to head off to bed.

Rico – It’s great to see that the House is full of happy and optimistic regular house guests. Let us hope we all feel the same way at the end of the coming season.

Good Night from me and Good Day to you all. Keep The Faith!

  98. Kc says:

    considering the player has not
played more than 25 games a
season in La liga at his age in
    3 or so seasons…
In the EPL that will mean less
    games imho…

TS..even as an Economist student I am, this is where I hate stats…come on khedira..come on Arsenal

  99. ozgunner says:

Walcott, Ozil, Sanchez and Remy – shut up! 🙂 Is there a better strike force? I think not

  100. rico says:

For sure it would agag and I hope that is what happens. We need depth and strength, he is a big part of that….

  101. tsgh says:

kc- its not stats its called value for money…. as I say I like Sami but do the maths… £20m plus his £8m a year salary for a player with niggling injury or a player who can play CM/DM and CB very well… and in my opinion should be the Thuram of France.

  102. tsgh says:

2 reasons why Sami may be chosen over Morgan or Ginter or even Sven are imho: his profile and that Southampton have apparently told us unless they find a replacement (Witsel) they won’t sell.

  103. ozgunner says:

Rico – tonight is not about negatives so on that note i shall sidestep your playboy question 😉

  104. agirlagunner says:

CG, never really liked Shrek; never forgave him for the dive that ended our 49 game unbeaten run. Last season, I was keeping my fingers crossed for Suarez. 🙂 Haha.

ginge, I do watch a lot of Real Madrid, and I think the reason he hasn’t got much game time is because of all the superstars they have. And last season because of his injury. Other than that, I think he is a very smart player; not the quickest, but he knows when to move forward, when to keep back, etc. But then again, I’ve never seen much of Morgan.

  105. Bt62 Gooner says:

Scott, great stuff that clip, skill to die for, especially at 1:06, i think it’s your freekick coming back to earth. lol

  106. Kc says:

And I’m not dishing stats, but stats make life a one way stuff and make people not to accept FACTS that doesn’t concur with their stats…I prefer khedira than Morgan..there’s a reason one plays at southampton while the other plays for Real and had Beeb integral to a very very great talented national team..that’s my humble opinion

  107. ozgunner says:

agree Kc – 6’2 and a real presence about the lad, has plenty of technique to go with that solid frame as well –

  108. Nickie says:

Had a look at that BBCTransfernews….It doesn’t seem legit unfortunately. Not verified and BBCsport update with transfer news. Nice find though Rico. I may be wrong

  109. Kc says:

TS..or maybe we can still buy Ginter who I like and rate so much..anyway I had always like khedira and will prefer to see him in the red and white colours..I love the Germans, that was where my dad fled during the bloody biafra Nigeria war

  110. rico says:

I just seen that too Nickie, dodgy twitter account, oh well, fingers crossed there is some truth in it somewhere, would love to see him at the club….

But I can see some may prefer a different kind of player….

    I wouldn’t bet against Sven Bender arriving….

  111. ozgunner says:

if true it means he knocks back a top contract from none other than Real Madrid to sign for Arsenal FC – WTF!!

  112. tsgh says:

Agag- the ex-sperds Modric demoted him from the line up in the bigger games.

Before that it was him and alonso and our ex player Diarra

Note pragmatic Jose against Barcelona in 2011,2012 opted for Diarra. Not e ven Jose brought Essien in for a reason…

Dec 2011- vs Barca- Real Madrid team: Casillas, Coentrão, Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo, Alonso, Lass, Di María, Özil, Ronaldo & Benzema.

2012 with Modric just joining RM

Real Madrid: Casillas; Arbeloa, Ramos, Pepe, Marcelo; Alonso, Khedira; Di Maria, Ozil, Ronaldo; Benzema. Subs: Adán, Coentrão, Kaká, Essien, Albiol, Modric, Higuaín.

I am not being a kill joy.. I am just saying there are better with the money we have…

  113. agirlagunner says:

Bt62, how excited we all sound. 🙂 🙂 Because of the build-up, there has been so much buzz about Sanchez. I remember his stunningly taken goal v. Atleti in the last match of La Liga. Wow. When we signed Ozil, I could hardly believe it; must have been a last minute trolley dash, but that one turned out very well, I think.

Oz, now’s not the time to be hard on Giroud. 🙂 😛

Good night, CG. 🙂 I’m sure your entire Gunner family is thrilled to bits as well. 🙂

rico, my opinions on players are heavily influenced by things they do to change things; Santi got us started winning the Cup; and Theo signed da ting when we were all worried that he would leave; and give the media more ammunition v. Arsenal as a second-rate club. I want them both to do fantastically well in the coming season. 🙂 🙂

  114. Kc says:

Oz..another nice point..how things cab change so quickly, from always being depressed of selling our star players every summer to buying already made proven world class players ..keep keeping the faith gooners

  115. tsgh says:

Kc I think Ginter may be too young for AW in that position now.He turned us down too last summer so maybe Aw won’t buy him..

Statement of intent especially with our injury record offer £30m for Javier Martinez and give him 80k per week as Pep does not fancy him in CM and Javier does not like playing as a CB…

Imho, there is a reason why RM are after Pogba/Vidal or Kroos instead.

  116. rico says:

Ts, it’s all about fans own view though, some believe Sami would be ideal, others don’t.

I personally would love to see Sami at Afc.

But as long as we sign a player in the defensive/b2b position and one who is bloody good at his job, I’ll be happy…

  117. AndrewH says:

    >> I’d so laugh if he failed his medical….

Especially if it was CMT (Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease)!!

  118. tsgh says:

    Even Gabi of Ath.

Kc- I like Poldi but Poldi has over 105 caps and is no better than Reus…

Kruse is far better than Poldi now but could not make the German squad and plays for M’glbach…

Re. appearances of a player if it does not matter then Diaby is better…

  119. Kc says:

Adam…Lol..stats is a good source of knowledge though I think it covers more truth than it reveals..take for instance Ramsey stat on tackles ..you can still argue that if he had stayed in his position or be more postionally aware ..his tackle rate would had been low..did I just criticise Ramsey..lord have mercy in my poor soul ..lol

  120. agirlagunner says:

ginge, but Ratboy languished at the bench for long periods, too, his rise has coincided with Khedira’s injuries and loss of form; much like anywhere, if you lose form, someone takes your spot.

Ratboy had a poor start to life at the Bernabeu, I remember a match when he was even booed. He was awful for a year, tbh.

  121. Adam says:

Kc. I tend to agree. Stats presuppose a steady-state world and not a creative one. No great piece of music was written using stats though millions have died because of them. I believe the evidence of my own eyes and I listen to the creative voice within plus I am old enough to know that the vast majority of people are idiots.

  122. tsgh says:

Rico, I am not trying to change any one’s mind…

I am giving an opinion like everyone else on here…

On the other hand personal insults are aimed at me but I guess others are more valuable as humans to you on here so it does not matter…

Adam you like to play the victim when it suits you but no one hails insults or takes pot shots to me than you do… But as I say I guess others are more important as humans on here so…

  123. rico says:

Adam, that’s harsh, Sky Sports and all the football pundits use stats, everything written about players profiles are stat related. Stats alone mean very little imo, not compared to what the human eye sees.

As Paul Walsh said recently about how much ground Rooney covered during an England game. He said all that proved is can run a lot. The eye shows us the rest….

  124. Bt62 Gooner says:

Ts, steady on mate, everyone is entitled to an opinion, that’s what creates debate. stay cool Ts.

  125. ozgunner says:

even the bookies have us at the lowest price in over 10 years to challenge for the EPL next season – what a different summer we’re having

  126. Kc says:

TS..javi is my perfect DM..beacuse I always want to believe your allegedly ITk on transfers..I was happy when u said u HEARD khedira is going to BM and making javi available and remembered that we inquired about his availability ..is best I stop here

  127. Bt62 Gooner says:

Agag. no need to apologise. that’s the name i have used for him for years. lol..a perfect fit for the Ratboy….

  128. rico says:

Ts, I am not suggesting you were, honest. Just saying that we all have a differing of opinion. I personally like the idea of Morgan being snapped up and as you suggest, if they get Witsel, it’s a possibility.

But as I said the other day, I’d sell two of Arteta, Diaby and Flamini, and get both Moran and Sami… But I’m greedy…

  129. agirlagunner says:

It’s not a day to be getting cross at each other, guys. 😛 😛 Come on, we’ve signed Sanchez!!!!

  130. tsgh says:

Please KC- I am not ITK – before I get insulted or admonished again…

I make lucky guesses and as I keep getting told on here quite frequently an idiot can make many guesses and one comes true….

Agag- you have a point I forgot about the booing… at that time he had no pre-season and in his first few games he played like he was treading water. 🙂

  131. rico says:

Agree agag, in fact no day should be about that. We all love Arsenal and that’s why we are here. HH is not a place for bickering and arguing…

  132. agirlagunner says:

Adam, I hope you are well as is the missus, and I hope you have been celebratory. 🙂

Ginge, Gabi of Atleti and Turan are really good, too. But then again, I don’t think Atleti would be selling more players.

  133. Adam says:

I have Agag. The house is decked in bunting and we are just opening our third bottle of Dom. 🙂

  134. tsgh says:

Kc- no need to apologies mate! I don’t get angry on petty things and I didn’t take it as anything offensive btw…

I come on here for a bit of banter and HH is great for it 99.999999% of the time…

That is why I do f all at work. 🙂

Re Poldi is a very effective as inside left in a traditional 4-4-2 set-up. You are spot on. The modern lW on a front 3 requires too much tracking back for someone like him…

  135. ozgunner says:

lap it up baby – “Because of the people who don’t know anything about football, we have now sold one of the best players we had at Barca,” Stoichkov was quoted as saying by Marca.

  136. ozgunner says:

and he goes on… “Barcelona’s policy has always been like this. They clearly don’t like great players.

“Alexis was the best player Barca had for his pace, determination and mentality.

“He always fights for every ball and works hard for the team. He can leave with his head held high. He is a decisive player, who never gives up.”

  137. agirlagunner says:

Bt62, ratboy and his best mate, “Monkeyface”, although to be fair, I do not think Bale looks like one and I have never called him that. Plus, when he is not diving, he’s quite a player. 🙂

I like Poldi, too. I wish he were more consistent; but he does score in important matches, so I hope we keep him. of course. Of our players, he does semm to be the one always reaching out to fans. Even when he’s injured, he attends our games. I like that.

ginge, sometimes I think I watch other teams just so I can say, AFC is so much better. That we are better is not always true, of course, but well, we are the only club worth supporting. Hahaha.

  138. tsgh says:

Statistically its 99.9999999% but in real life 100% you already know Rico…:P

As they say in order to prove a hypothesis is false it is necessary only to find that it is not logically or factually consistent… 🙂

  139. ozgunner says:

.. and me saying positive things about Wenger in the middle of a transfer window, i feel quite giddy – what is happening here ha!

  140. agirlagunner says:

Adam, posh. 🙂 Have you tried the champagnes of Cedric Bouchard? Quite interesting.

GDNA, has your excitable “German” buddy been apprehended yet for defacing the Lincoln memorial? 🙂

  141. Kc says:

Is okay bro..I started blogging at le grove and still do though most of the times, their comment section is something else..but whether those guys mean what they say or just seeking for attentions is another question..I love HH and believe me..it pains me when I don’t comment due to uni commitment..is so good here with good guys and a very good madam ….most importantly from the place I am from, is so hard as a 21 year old to argue freely with people so knowleged and older than ..that’s why I’m so privileged to be here ..very very privledged

  142. emma says:

Wenger knows what he wants and if peradventure he picks Khedira I have no qualms. That means he must have a plan just like he did to Arteta. But I still fancy Morgan.

  143. Ebenezer Oke says:

To be candid I am the most happiest man on earth, Thank you Arsenal for giving us Sanchez, Hope to see more of this kind signing before the end of the transfer window, thank you Sanchez for chosen US. You are powerfully ans sincerely welcome. UP GUNNERS!!!

  144. agirlagunner says:

KC, you called people here, “old”, those are fighting words, buddy!! 😀 Lol.

Hello, emma. 🙂 You still smiling?

  145. tsgh says:

You are spot on Agag- I know not everyone can get time to watch other leagues for obvious reasons… but when you do watch teams in their leagues other than in the UCL you realise we are not far off…

That is why I really want us to sign tactical players instead of just skillful players who don’t have to wait until half tie to adapt to the game…

As an example in the FA cup final TR07, Arteta and Ramsey had a small mini council on the pitch before a corner and 3 or so minutes later it was 2-2

And that is not the only time so many times during games if those 3 are on the pitch they swap slightly and then we get a break through…

  146. rico says:

I started there too Kc, but the language all got a bit too much for me…

Argue, we don’t argue, we debate, well most of the time… 😉

  147. Kc says:

In view of that..thank you Rico and all of u honourable members …frankly I love the disputes sometimes..u enjoy it reading from outside

  148. Gunnerdna says:

You all gonna leave Stan alone. Lol. Brazil get their ass kicked and I’m following Stan on the German train. Lol

  149. Luznic says:

I did really ridicule Wenger before the Ozil signing and after the January transfer window debacle that got us Chim Chalstrom…….now I can’t look at the tweets I sent out because I am ashamed…….he f*****g bought Sanchez….am in tears and saying am sorry le prof

  150. Micko says:

rico 2.23, as I keep reminding you there’s always room for improvement !
As of today I have a new found respect for hairdressers !

  151. rico says:

    It’s a pleasure Kc and thank you….

🙂 Bt, that’s what I strived for, with a little bit of nice naughtiness as well of course… lol

  152. agirlagunner says:

With the exception of Madrid and Barca, who can depend on Ronaldo/Bale and Messi, respectively, to bail them out of trouble time and time again, I realized that goals have to come from everywhere. At Munich, so many players can score; when Costa was stuttering at the end of the season for Atleti, failing from both open play and the spot, “lesser” players stepped up. Hopefully, that will happen at Arsenal.

    Bt62, hahaha. 😛

rico, missed your Theo comment, but I really feel that his contract extension arrested the rot at Arsenal somewhat. That Robin and Cesc, figureheads of the club, left really hit hard. Angry fans, teammates with low morale, AW looking like a wreck and abused by sections of fans…. I warmed up to Theo after that. 🙂

  153. tsgh says:

Lol Emma… stats don’t count.. 😛 A very good link though.

But if stats don’t count then how do we prove Suarez is a better striker than OG12?

    1. If it comes to physical appearances OG12 wins… ( Micko no funny comment to that one :P)
    2. If I wanted a friend from a distance I would prefer OG12.
    3. If I did not want a bite I would prefer OG12….

In all areas I would prefer OG12 but its football so performances need to be measured some how…
Seriously, both have 2 legs and OG12 played for a bigger team up until 12 hours ago…?

Only stats can distinguish and show 1 is better… and that is when goals scored comes to mind

Paolo Wanchope was more skilful but did not score as many goals so I guess it is fair to say Jaws is better…

If it was not for stats Gervinho will be the best player but because he misfires he is an anti-climax…

Imho every adult uses stats some how without realisng they are using it…

Like if one is going to buy a new car and money was no concern… stats will decide between a French saloon and a German make…

So imho it is very pretentious when insults are just frowned at jsut because it says stats… 😉

  154. rico says:

I know Micko, those kind of figures certainly need improving on….

Kc, a long time ago now, over 4 years since I have been on Lg…

  155. Luznic says:

Ginge don’t tell me Stan is not going to pee at the gates, he promised and insisted and I was waiting for him to fulfil his promise…….lol

  156. rico says:

I’d rather Suarez any day of the week Ts, IF he could stop his biting and other stuff which I suspect he will now he’s got what he’s wanted for so long….

Maybe not the diving though, Barca have all that kind of stuff down to a fine art…

  157. tsgh says:

IKc- I like a debate and have won a few against some very pompous folks in the past to their dislike especially as they were public school educated so they felt entitled to win…
I was the debate prefect for my squadron and club…

Debate can be fun until people disagree on a topic and things get personal…

  158. Kc says:

TS ..I love stats too ..there’s something you wrote on how the past influence the present and the future and on someone that said why politicians study one form of history while the common man are told to study sciences and technology ….please can you repost it…thanks in advance

  159. tsgh says:

😀 Micko I thought you were still celebrating…

    Luznic… I can’t wait for Goonie’s ‘prove I said that’ defence.. 🙂

  160. Luznic says:

Kc from now I won’t put my feelings in what I want from Arsene for all we know he might already be aiming for the UCL so I will be calm and be patient for God sake he bought SANCHEZ!!! BT yes!! He bought Sanchez!!! except we want him to buy Messi I think AW shut us up all and made us happy at the same time

  161. ozgunner says:

off to bed for me – nice to catch up again and i will be around over the weekend to annoy my favourites ha! Night all

  162. Micko says:

Well tsgh, I did think giroud had a very sporty looking quiff this world cup, quite fetching really.

  163. Gunnerdna says:

Can someone confirm Liverpool total spending for this transfer window, this fool telling me they have over 100 mil to spend, when it seems they already spend most of Suarez transfer fee.

  164. agirlagunner says:

GDNA, just pick a German city; goonie says his family is from Dresden; you can be from Hamburg or Frankfurt or wherever, we wouldn’t know anyway. 😛 😛

Micko, there you are. I thought you must have needed some alone time since your prediction days will soon be over. 😛

  165. Kc says:

Ts..love debate too..it pains me it is not valued in this part of the continent..everybody believe his opinion is the best and true which is so so wrong..that’s why is said that ” we are all entitled to our opinions and not our facts “

  166. goonster says:

Hey who knows…lol. it work with ozil and sanchez. It might work with sami khedira 😀 good Lord my heaf hurts. Morning good people 😀

  167. agirlagunner says:

    Mick, 😛 I wonder who the elephant/guinea pig/turtle will predict would prevail. 😛 Hope, it;s the Krauties. 🙂 🙂

goonie, do they allow you to SMS behind bars? 😛

  168. tsgh says:

    Kc- is it this one?
It was a George Orwell quote… ”Who controls the past controls the future. Who controls the present controls the past.”

  169. allezkev says:

    I’ve just had a wonderful cuppa…

Statistically, it’s my 2nd of the day, I will probably have one more, so I am 66.66 thru my daily ration…

Artistically, it was probably the best, because of the time of day…

Aesthetic’s vs Fractions, or some old bollocks like that.

I am quite good at coming out with old bollocks, mostly because I know that Mick appreciates it….

As far as the Khadira vs Schneiderlin debate, I like both, but I prefer Khadira as I have seen more of him.
Also one plays for Real Madrid whilst the other plays for Southampton…

  170. tsgh says:

Kc- re the comment about elites background…

As you say you are studying economics, ask yourself why Christine Madeleine Odette Lagarde the heard of the IMF was a lawyer and politician but is in charge of the IMF; she studied Law and Politics…

The person in charge of our economy in the UK George Osbourne studied History…

Jack Lew the head of the US treasury studied Law and Politics but is in charge of one of the biggest economies in the world…

Even Jim Yong Kim the president of World Bank who has a meaningful degree studied medicine but is incharge of finance…

Then again as they say degrees are not worth the papers they are written on so..

There are numerous other examples you can find… but back to football 🙂

  171. agirlagunner says:

Kev, I like your statistical story-telling. 😛 I’ve also seen more of Khedira than Morgan, so I will not object to him joining. He’d be right at home with his German buddies. Btw, have you noticed that Hummels hangs out with the Arsenal boys, more than he does with the BM contingent at the WC? Maybe they’re whispering to him, too. 🙂 Putting in a good word for us. 😀

  172. potter says:

Time to calm down and move on. We have made progress but we are only at the beginning. We need to take stock and see what we have and their abilities to fit into the squad allowances . In effect if we keep buying the players that we are calling for it is inevitable that some of our existing players will have to leave.

How many non home grown can we have ? How many have we got already ? So far we have on .com 6 British born and 21 not , how many of the nots qualify because of either age or time in England. I dont know ,but surely we are going to have to sell if we keep buying in non British players.

  173. agirlagunner says:

Lagarde wears such pretty scarves, haha. 🙂 Former French Finance Minister, right, ginge?

  174. allezkev says:

Hummels started out as a Def/mid…

Agag, I know you enjoy my muses down memory lane…
As for the Stilton, put a few thin slices into a ham sandwich, toast it and viola…
Served with a side salad and a cuppa or optional glass of Port 😉 and there you have it…

  175. tsgh says:

Exactly potter, we need players who can hit the ground running…
That has always been the issue with Aw; Fergie and Jose bought from this league to establish their reign.

Imho our core should be used to this league. Fergie bought Cantona from this league but failed with Kleberson and Veron…

Even City built with Nasri, Kolo, Lescott etc who helped them to win their first EPL trophy.

It is very obvious that we can’t be making £60M signings every year and give such players £24m over their 3 year contracts so we need to buy the best of the players already in this league if we can…

  176. tsgh says:

Indeed Agag- she is a very stylish lady; but as she is a die hard feminist I can be excused not to be a fan. 😛

  177. allezkev says:

I often have a Stilton and ham toasted sandwich, chased down with a pint of Scottish Guiness, after a couple of hours playing my piano…

  178. allezkev says:

Interesting point Potter re: the balance of the squad…

That’s why I thought that signing the English Nottingham Forest goalkeeper made sense, assuming that he is any good…

  179. tsgh says:

I didn’t know that Kev.. I always learn something new… thanks

I stated watching him in 2008 when he joined up to my BVB and he played CB with Subotic straight away…

Agag- do you know Hummels started off as a BM player… He was deemed not good enough because of the likes of Buyten,Martín Demichelis, Lucio etc

As they say i Germany all rounds lead to Bavaria… 🙂

  180. agirlagunner says:

Will try that, Kev. I far prefer semi-hard to hard cheeses than the soft ones. 🙂 I’ll have a San Mig with it. 🙂

I’m terrified of those die-hard feminists; they often sound like they’ll beat you up if you say you like pretty shoes and stuff. I honestly don’t share their hard-core politics and their general culture of acting all victimized and hard-done by. 😉

    Potter, hello. 🙂

  181. Wavy says:

AK I think Fred was referring to Pep C Zola the German based brother!
As for Sanchez, brilliant, marvellous, magnificent. The IG DL partnership have done very well but I hope they pull off a couple more big ones before the TW closes, I shall purr like the Cheshire Cat right through winter, wonderful! If they do! Big if there!

  182. agirlagunner says:

I did not know that, re Hummels Kev and Ginge. I’ve seen him have fantastic matches; I have seen him struggle; but he’s not a moaner. The body language of players say a lot about them.

  183. tsgh says:

We still have akpom and Afobe… all are true gooners….

Afobe in particular shunned Barca at their peak to stay with us… he deserves a chance… I guess I am beuing sentimental. 😉

if we did not have money they would still play for us… imho of course.

  184. tsgh says:

Agag- The only policy I agree with Christine on is ”Christine Lagarde’s believes that women in high places are essential. Men, left to themselves, will usually make a mess of things.”

  185. agirlagunner says:

ginge, smart Lagarde. 🙂 That holds true in HH, too you know. That’s why Lady rico is queen. Lol.

  186. tsgh says:

Emma- those stats at 2:32 I must say are very impressive and professional. one of the best I have seen…

Based on those numbers I wonder why Arteta is so underrated by majority and perceived to be a poor DM. Is it is a form of ‘placebo’ effect or mirage because the media including majority of ex-pros say Flamini is a hard man and makes us stable so subconciously we begin to believe that even though he trails Arteta in all areas defensively and in attack…

  187. tsgh says:

Of course Agag, I am man and secure enough to admit that even to the mrs…

In my past prefession, colleagues use to say I was a ladies man because in group exercises even on map reading tasks, I opted to pick a female as my 2i/c.

I found very early on that if you had an all male group, egos got in the way too much…

I won best troop in training because of that…

Talking about the mrs its her b’day tomorrow so as per usual I had to get her ANOTHER handbag.. tsk!

  188. agirlagunner says:

bondex, that is the ramblings of a mad man. 😀 Bitter because Suarez has left them, and bitterer because we got Sancheeeez. 😛 The writer is terrified that his club will fade into obscurity again, after emerging briefly from the shadows, without their star man. To be fair to Suarez, he has been consistent in sending out feelers to the big two in Spain to come get him. 🙂

  189. allezkev says:

Ginge, he played def/mid for Germany, when they won the U21’s by beating England 4-0…
    Google it…

As for what he was doing in 2008, I wasn’t online in 2008.
I spend enough of my spare time on Arsenal as it is…

  190. tsgh says:

Bondex- that’s post is comedy at it’s finest..There is nothing more laughable than a whinging, bitter, twisted scouser. I have read some liverpool blogs in my time but this just wins hands down. Out goes Suarez, in comes pensioner Lambert. The funny think is they are spending £20m on Markovic to supply Lambert. lol

Of all their buys and linked players only Bony and Moreno I would like in AFC shirt if I was Wenger…

Only clueless dipper fans will propose a midfield 3 of Can, Lallana and Coutinho.. Thank is a classic example of section of fans not knowing anything about their buys… so far as he cost money he is good until he kicks a ball and then they told the manager not to buy him…

No Suarez = no top 4. Enjoy the Champions League this year, it will be the last for some time.

  191. bondex says:

BITEMAN has left LFC … imagine what the papers would have said if we hadn’t bought AS ( arsenal target prefers to play in spain or something like that) or Arsenal loose out again.

Poor Cesc, he clearly wanted to return, alas!! 😉 Such irony, eh? Unwanted by Barca and unconvincing to many Chavs.

Wavy I make you 100% right on the Gazides/Law combo…

Those two have taken a lot of stick over the last 5 or 6 transfer windows, and it hadn’t been their fault…

A big well done to both of them….

    Pep.C.Zola, isn’t he from Dresden?

  197. rico says:

    Evening….

Totally agree Potter and as someone here said yesterday, one swallow doesn’t make a summer.

Have we signed anyone else yet?? lol

  198. agirlagunner says:

Sanchez is giving us more reasons to like him, rico. 🙂 I reckon I also really liked Lansbury because he had dogs. 😛

  199. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good Evening Happy dicks and chicks. 😉

My last favourite player to wear the coveted number 17 was Manu’ Petit. Kev can second that. My son carries his name.

Now I cant wait to see how will he fit in. So no judgement till December for me.

Just as I was about to delve into the rules , this popped up on newsnow,:-http://www.justarsenal.com/how-the-home-grown-rule-will-affect-arsenal-this-season/33790′
This concludes that we have to buy 1 more home grown player to complete our squad or if we are to buy further non home grown :- then sales have to be done. Watch this space or else sack the juggler.

Am more of a cock dev…and yes am happy. Delirium that’s it. A happy cock….yeah am a happy cock 😀

  202. goonster says:

Potter can’t we just promote someone from the youth ranks. Come on man. Don’t want no underwhelming signing. That’s why am all about khediraaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa…yeeeeeeaaaaaah.

  203. frednerk says:

Hope you all don’t think Im trying to be a know all,
but the debate on stats and D/Mid is a bit of a myth in imo.
Having played D/M and A/M it depends on your partner in their,
for example who go’s who stay’s its a mental thing with players,
playing for Real Madrid against most teams is a stroll, why would you be defensive.
Look at that nob Alex Song Centre Half yer,
wenger plays him centre mid,he knocks a few assists to Judas,
all of a sudden his off to Barca………………The New Chavy

  204. Rick says:

Evening Rico and the House. Sorry that once again I am late coming on line.I have been following H/H for about 3 Years Rico but I think your post today is about the best I have seen Congratulations.
Potter, 4 Years after the 25 man squad rule was introduced the effects areat last being debated.
What this writer failed to state is that in the last 4years the Max number of Homegrown players we have had in the squad is 6.
every one of them has been promoted from the u21. In fact (correct me if i am wrong) I thinl Sol Campbell was the last English H/G that we have Bought.
As it stands at the moment Arsene has to sell h/g befoe he buys.

  205. rico says:

fred, I think you are spot on. Didn’t Paddy and Petit demonstrate that?

Both knew when to go and when to stay….

  206. rico says:

Evening Rick, and a big thank you. Not sure why it’s the best, but I will say, it was one of the easiest I have written since HH started up.

    Funny eh…..

  207. allezkev says:

Fred, the Kinks, one of my fave bands…

Potter, that 25 man squad, did it include Miyaichi, Coquelin, Miquel, Martinez etc?

  208. allezkev says:

    Interesting tit-bits on Jeorge Bird….

Matt Macey our young Engljsh goalkeeper, who made several impressive performances last season, is being tipped as the 1st teams possible 3rd choice goalkeeper…

Spanish centre-back Julio Pleguezuelo is being tipped to be our 4th choice C/H….
At only 17, that would be a big ask.
Tony Adams was 17 when he made his Arsenal debut, as was David O’Leary…

  209. Rick says:

    Ginge Ref Jan Toral
Like you and Kev I was told he was thinking of going back to Spain.
However Jeorge Bird states he extended his contract in April and is staying .He is at present traning with the first team and I expect him to get playing time against Boreham wood or New Red Bulls.
Now Carl Jenkinson. Untill Rico stated the view that he could be a C/b I had not given it a second thought. As things stand TV,Koss and BFG cannot play in the games against B/w and in New york leaving us short with only Miquil. It looks like they are goimg to give Carl a run out at C/B.
After the game in New York the team Fly to Astria for a 3day trainging Camp I think this will be the time when Arsene will say goodbye to some players.

  210. rico says:

Potter, you could have kept that for a post. Shall I nab your comment and use it on another day?

  211. Scott From Oz says:

    I’m off to work….yes on a Saturday.
    Someone has to pay for Sanchez 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂

  212. Rick says:

    Kev Your 9.33
Jeorge has been saying good things about both of them for some time.
For Macey to make the step up Martinez and Ilev would have to go.
In the case of Julio I think he needs to put on sme weight, but he is a very talented player.

  213. potter says:

It’s not mine Rico it comes from Arsenal .com written by a guy called Supertuur. His plot thickens perhaps you should contact him he also posted this :- The Home Grown Rule And How It Will Affect Arsenal’s Purchases. by Supertuur

Yesterday I wrote an article about the 25 squad rule and how it effect decisions about who to Loan/Sell and who to keep. Today I want to look at the home grown rule.

The home grown rule is another rule that limits how many players we can have. We are allowed to have 17 players that do not fulfil the home-grown criteria . The definition of home grown as taken from the Premier League website is the following.

“A Home Grown player will be defined as one who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)”.

U21 players are eligible over and above the limit of 25 players per squad.

Currently Arsenal have 9 home grown players:

    * Gibbs

    * Ramsey

    * Szczesny

    * Wallcott

    * Jenkinson

    * Wilshire

    * Martinez – I assume he will be the 3rd goalkeeper

    * Djourou – Sold to Hamburg confirmed but still showing on our team sheet.

    * Coquelin – Coming back from a loan spell at Freiburg

The 14 non home grown players over 21 are:

    * Cazorla

    * Flamini

    * Arteta

    * Giroud

    * Koscielny

    * Mertesacker

    * Monreal

    * Ozil

    * Podolski

    * Rosicky

    * Vermealen

    * Podolski

    * Miyaichi – missed out on home grown rule by 1 month.

    * Campbell

Additions to squad that we have been linked with in this transfer window:

    * Sanchez

    * Debuchy

    * Remy

    * Bernard – Under 21

    * Khedira / Bender / Schneiderlin

    * Central Defender

    * 2nd GoalKeeper

If Djourou and Coquelin both are sold we have 7 home grown players in the 25 squad. I am assuming Martinez will be our 3rd goal keeper. To make use of the full 25 allocation we need an 8th home grown player. So we need to look at Central Defender / 2nd Goal Keeper or buy Schneiderlin who classifies as home grown being with Southampton since 2008. The Premier League website confirms this.

If we buy Bender or Khedira instead of Schneiderlin we should at least add a home grown player for the rest of our squad additions. The Central Defender position could be filled with Micah Richards from Manchester City or Steven Caulker from Cardiff City. The Goal Keeper could be David Marshall from Cardiff City, whom we have been linked with in the past.

If we do not buy any home grown player we will be limited to 24 squad players which is not a disaster as we can still find ample backup options in our under 21 players. But it does mean more non home-grown squad players need to be sold or loaned out to make way for the additions.

  214. allezkev says:

    Great points Rick and Potter….

    For Martinez see Macey….

Miyaichi could be loaned out, possibly to Southampton.
Koeman had him when he was boss at Feyenoord.

Coquelin will go, Djourou has left, hasn’t he, joined Hamburg on 3 yr deal?

Joel Campbell, in instead of Loic Remy?

  215. allezkev says:

Arsenal won’t be the only club forced to shuffle their squad pack…

And where was Diaby in that squad btw?

  216. potter says:

Diaby is 28 yrs old and joined us aged 20 , I am sure that means he counts as an overseas player not having been developed at our place. As you say there will be shuffling of the pack , it’s not as easy as just going out and buying a new pair of shoes . Even if Agag would like it to be.

  217. allezkev says:

Hmm a Torres pillow case or a pair of Jimmy Choo slippers?

    Decisions decisions…,

    Night All…

    Morning Scott

  218. BrainwashedKev says:

    Morning All

Jon Toral could make the breakthrough this season Rick, I think he is the same/similar age to Gnarby, the major difference is the German is built like a tank where as Toral has a bit of catching up on that score.

  219. BrainwashedKev says:

I see that the Daily Mail are doing another hatchet job on Mesut Ozil.

Maybe banning the Daily Mail from the Emirates is the answer…?

  220. potter says:

The incident was 4 months ago , why dig it up now ? 3 people put their names to the story , how do we dig up some stuff on them ?

  221. potter says:

Morning all , I am sure that the man will be happy let you use his stats , bear in mind I did credit him when I sent them.

As for the 3 “” journos “” that put their names to the Ozil story , a cursory glance at Google suggests that all three are investigative and from some of the comments seem to have a habit of bending things to back up their stories. Newspapers eh ? Can’t believe a word they print can you. Always looking for an angle.

  222. Wavy says:

What is the daily fails take/fiction on Ozil. Have looked on news now- nothing!
Is he a party boy or serial shagger a bank robber or does he go around biting people for fun?
    I’m fascinated!

  223. BrainwashedKev says:

Those three will have found a safe haven working for the Daily Mail, with it’s chequered history of supporting fascism…

  224. BrainwashedKev says:

Wavy, apparently, some scumbag freelance snapper was loitering outside Ozil’s home and was caught by the wing mirror of Ozil’s car.

The wanker then reported him to the police…

  225. Wavy says:

That’s pretty close to harassment by the reporter. Counter claim required!
Live by the wing mirror and die by the wing mirror!
Hold the front page I’ve got a massive scoop………
    F me sideways!

  226. bondex says:

Morning all. After the signing of AS, everyday brings renewed excitment and hope, our discussions are now different from the gloom and doom it used to be at around this period.

  227. Hell Raising Devil says:

Good Morning Sun Chess Cheezy crusts.

How is life today? Heard the weather is not too clement in the area of Leigh on Sea.

Even in Dipperland the skies are grey and crying with grief because Sun Chess has not joined their wailing toothless gnashers club
