Morning all.
I’ve been trying not to mention the Euros because it seems that when I have, this place is usually quieter than it normally is but after last nights result which sent England into the final at Wembley on Sunday, how can such an achievement be ignored? Having seen off Spain in the quarter-finals, the Lionesses beat Sweden 4-0. After a shaky start, possibly down to nerves, Beth Mead scored a cracking goal. England settled and went on to score three more, one being a cheeky back heel from super sub Alessia Russo. Whether or not she intended to score or pass, only she knows, but who cares? Lucy Bronze and Fran Kirby scored the other two.
Head coach Sarina Wiegman must be feeling great this morning. England haven’t lost a game since she took over and just one more victory in this competition would probably make her the best England womens manager of all time after less than a year in the job. I know what I’ll be doing on Sunday at 4pm.
I think it’ll be an England v Germany Final so best the England players start practicing their penalties.
Arsenal are reported to be interested in signing West Ham winger Jarrod Bowen. Football London reckon our chances of doing so have increased as David Moyes wants to sign Martin Terrier from Rennes as his replacement. Chelsea are also interested in Bowen. Playing fantasy football for a second, how about Arsenal just for for Terrier, a winger/striker/forward who scored 21 goals in 37 appearances last season. That way, we’d get our winger and would cheese West Ham and Chelsea off in the process. Oh if only transfers were that easy eh?
Transfer rumours relating to Arsenal have gone really quiet but that’s not to say Edu isn’t working hard on signing a midfielder and winger. Even if we agreed a deal or two in the next day or so, it’s unlikely that they’ll be ready to play against Crystal Palace in ten days time. It’ll take Arsenal that long to get the paperwork and medical completed. Lol
There are a few photos of the players training yesterday doing the rounds although there are no official ones on Arsenal.com. If they’re genuine though, both Kieran Tierney and Takehiro Tomiyasu have been captured on camera. Great news of course but I’d imagine they’ve both got a bit of work to do yet before they’re 100%. The last thing we need is one or both to break down again. ESR and Fabio Vieira will hopefully return soon and once fit, all four will stay fit for a long time.
Olympique Marseille president Pablo Longoria flew into London to meet William Saliba’s agent for dinner on Monday, according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter. At least that’s what The Mail have suggested which translates to all sorts of speculation about our player’s future. More interesting is Saliba’s agent being in London as his player’s contract needs extending and perhaps that’s the only reason he’s in town. The fact that he chose to dine with Longoria is possibly irrelevant, unless it was to tell him not to bother trying to sign him because he’s staying at Arsenal for the foreseeable. It’s so easy to twist a story which is twisted in the first place.
Apart from Bernd Leno being close to joining Fulham, there’s little going on at Arsenal. At least that’s how it appears…
See you in the comments.
Arsenal are like a swan, it looks oh so serene on the surface but beneath the legs are going 10 to the dozen. Therefore it may seem all quiet on the Highbury front but there’s contract negotiations/extensions, loans to arrange and the transfer window is open for another month+…
I don’t do Twitter so I can safely say without fear of being attacked by the mob that I don’t follow woman’s football, I don’t actually follow a lot of sports and the ladies game is just one of them, it doesn’t make me a bad person it just means that I can still, just about, exert my freedom of choice. Good luck to the England team all the same.
Thanks for the post Total, how are things going with you up in Jockoland?
Thanks for the post Rico, I had a brain fart there and thought I was on a different blog, never done that before, I need to get out more… 🙄
Apart from Leno about to sign for Fulham. Except he’s going to Leicester, apparently. 😂
Morning Rico and all
What’s that saying no news is good news, so hopefully Edu is working on some exits so we can buy a midfielder,
I know Arteta said he wants Saliba to stay but I am not convinced that Saliba really wants to stay no matter what he says.
I’m not a real sports fanatic but I have been watch some of the Woman’s matches and from what I have seen England have a good chance of winning the it.
Morning rico, Kev, all, easy when you only visit one blog 😀
Enjoyable watch last night, could easily have been 2-0 down, but took chances so well. It’s much more open, womens football, at times it seemed like Sensible Soccer (those that remember it) with the ball pinging about with skillful control. Maybe defenders or midfielders don’t get so tight or haven’t learn the dark arts yet. What is impressive is the way they get straight up after a heavy challenge, again less playacting than the men! One thing similar though, awful decision by ref not to book a Swedish player early on for a pull down professional foul, if that isn’t a booking, nothing is. Looking forward to Sunday.
Wonder what Youri Tielemans thinks reading we must sell before buying, which would be fair enough normally, but we just bought 5 other players before selling?
Anyone know why our women are always called lionesses (quite a nice name btw), when the only English sporting team I’ve heard called Lions are our English 2nds cricket team (England A)
Traitor Kev. 😂
Martin, never trust a rumour eh. Lol
Morning Geoff, Andrew, all.
I guess it’s because of the three lions on the shirt Andrew. The song associated to the men.
I’m not convinced Tielemans is coming to Arsenal. A little dicky bird, no, not the umpire, suggested Ruiz is the likely midfielder, if any.
Agree rico, I thought he would be here by now if he’s coming. Hope wrong though, we need DM cover more than anything.
I think so too Andrew, more so than a winger I think. One injury, or worse, to Partey and we’re back to being in a pickle.
Good day all and thanks for the post Rico.
I read somewhere last week that Leicester are unable to buy players until the have sold some of their higher paid squad members and yesterday their chairman stated that no offers for Thielemans have been received. Could it be that Edu has decided to play hard ball and wait to see if the asking price drops as the end of the transfer window approaches.
Thielemans has only one year left on his contract so will Leicester risk losing him for nothing or be prepared to do a deal at a lower price.
I think we know how it feels to be in that position.
Cicero, if Arsenal really want Tielemans and Leicester want Leno, there’s a deal to be done there surely.
As Schmeichel has left for Nice Leicester must be in the market for a replacement so Leno could be good buy for them. The problem is would Leno be willing to move to the midlands and up-root his family. Maybe we could offer them Runnarson in a straight swap for Thielemans.
Now that would be a good swap.
Arsenal and Fulham have agreed a deal for Leno. Sky Sports.
Like Kev the ladies game somewhat passes me by . Do I want England to win ? It would be nice.
The hype surrounding it is a little ott for me and comparisons to the men’s game are a little disingenuous.
From what I have seen of it , it seems a little naive , free flowing , good Long ball and close passing and it’s a good game which I hope more girls get to play it.
Leicester would be a good place for Leno and if it bring Tielemans this way it is a boost for our squad . Fulham’s owner is not a pauper if he wont stump up and he loses out . That’s the luck of the game
So the Runnarson/Thielemans swap could be a runner. 😉
Btw Rico , do you ever hear from that girl from the Phillipines , I see that they have had a major earthquake there. Hope she is all right.
I watched the game last night. Very impressive finishing. Maybe Phil Neville could learn a thing or two from Sarina Wiegman!
Fantastic backheel from Russo to nutmeg the keeper.
Imagine if Mesut Ozil did that in an international match? His fanboys would be running looped replays for the next 5 years telling everyone that he really isn’t the total waster that we all know he is.
Sell Leno to Leicester for 10 mill and Runarsson to Fulham for 5 mill or vice versa

So that’s where our second string squad stands .
Agag Potter, no, I’ve not heard from her in a few years now. Like a few others around at the time, she left. Great shame really.
I enjoyed it too Pete, Mead’s goal was class, Russo’s, cheeky but funny.
Brentford beat us today in a friendly.
3.44 Rico , Mafekin’s been relieved .
Arsenal should use Leno as part of the transfer to convince Lichester City in Tieleman deal.
I noticed afterwards Potter. Oops.
So it’s Germany in the final, Hmm that’ll be a tough game they’re a very physical team with a couple of Olympic class divers.
Going to Worsted festival , so will miss it . But that’s life.
R.I.P Bernard Cribbins.
We always went to Worstead Festival until about eight or nine years ago, had lunch in The White Lady before lockdown but haven’t been near the village since then.
Hope you have a good time Potter, you can watch the match on iPlayer.
t’s the Old Buckenham Airshow for us on Saturday, hope it doesn’t rain.
It looks like Tavares’ loan move to Atalanta is about to hit the buffers, they refused Arsenal’s offer of a straightforward loan move with an option to buy at the end of it.
The opinion is out that Arsenal are soft touches in the market , Leno ,Mari, Bellerin and now Tavares all want deals away from the club and all their agents want us to do give away deals.
R.I.P Terry Neil . Ex player and manager .
Good afternoon Rico and all.
RiP Terry Neill. It was an honour to have met you in 1982 and still have the photo we took with my old Pa. It’s going to be very difficult to tell him.
Terry Neill was a great English gentleman. A top of the class I should say. And a very good listener.
Cicero….I read it’s the othyway round….Atalanta want loan with option to buy but Arsenal don’t want as they deem him with bags of potential.
RiP Terry Neil.
Actually Northern Irish DG.
Tavares is to have a medical at Marseille today ahead of a loan move agreed with Arsenal.
Atalanta’s loss is Marseille’s gain. Either way it’s one player out.
Morning all
New post up now
