Ollie and Santi on target. Alexis plays again but Cech sits out…

Morning all.

It’s hard to find any motivation to discuss football this morning after last night’s tragic events in Paris.

I know football and terrorism are worlds apart but as Olivier Giroud and Laurent Koscielny were helping the French team to victory over Germany, 127 people, many no doubt their fellow countrymen and women, were either being killed by gunshot, or bombing and all just metres away from the Stade de France stadium…. A further 99 remain on the critical list.

France were due to face England at Wembley on Tuesday, a match that is now likely to be cancelled which is totally understandable. The country needs time to recover, as do the people.

Life goes on though, football goes on……

As said above, Ollie was on target for France. He played 68 minutes of the match but Laurent Koscielny played the entire game. Santi Cazorla scored Spain’s second goal in a 2-0 defeat of England, Alexis played the full 90 minutes on Thursday in Chile’s 1-1 draw with Columbia – David Ospina played in that one so it’s good to see him back to full fitness.

Petr Cech watched on from the bench as Czech Republic beat Serbia 4-1, Gabriel was an unused sub as Brazil held Argentina to a draw and Alex Iwobi didn’t get any playing time for Nigeria as they drew 0-0 against Swaziland…

Hopefully, Santi and Alexis will be rested for the second match but somehow I doubt it.

Finally, back to Paris, France and my thoughts and prayers are with those who have lost loved ones, those who remain critically injured and of course, with the people of France.

May the 127, who lives were so cruelly taken, Rest in Peace.

    Morning Rico and the house
Football doesn’t seem to mater this morning
I hope the Democratic, civilised world stand strong against these vermin scum

    Good Morning.

Cant bring myself to say lovelies and Hunkies today.

Cant even bring myself to talk about football.

What we saw yesterday was unnecessary.

Nowhere is safe anymore. Because even if all precautions are taken, these people will circumvent their way and if they do not enter through the door they will enter through the window.

Time for King Arthur to come back.

England v France will go ahead…Absolute madness, might as well stick a target on Wembley , it could easily be part of a campaign by ISIS. No amount of security can protect all of London, we can’t even protect the channel ports and as much as I agree with Kev about backing down there is a time and a place and I don’t think 4 days is enough time to sort the security out.

    Evening All….

Good post Rico, all things considered…

Been listening to the radio all day, it’s been grim listening indeed.
    Still listening now…

Potter I have quite mixed feelings about the England vs France game…

I would imagine that the game wouldn’t be going ahead without the full support and maybe insistence of France…

The security services, despite government cuts, don’t have a day off, I suspect, so I guess that security had been high on the agenda for this game long before and despite the murders in Paris…

Would I go to Wembley if I had a ticket?

    Difficult question tbh…

But the urge to give Daesh my middle finger would probably ensure that I went to the game….

One of the terrorists was prevented from entering the stadium to have you been explosive detected by security, run, and blew himself up outside the stadium!
I think other one, watched that, did the same outside the stadium
