Robin to Madrid? No! Fatigue could be the key to today's result…..

Didn’t take too long did it for Robin to squash the story in the Marca newspaper yesterday about him wanting to move to Real Madrid in the summer. In a short and sweet tweet he said:

Contrary to reports in Spain I have NEVER spoken to Marca newspaper and never gave any interview. Enjoy your day.

Thanks Robin…

On to today, a fixture that Wenger says:

We have to be absolutely, completely up for it and to be focused to win.

Of course we do, we have to be in that same frame of mind as we approach every game, not just today!

Win today, coupled with a Chav loss at Goodison and we could be 4th in the Premier League – if of course we win by more than three goals.

Then, later on today Newcastle travel to Shite Hart Lane and my money is on them to sneak a point, of course I’d love Newcastle to batter the b******s but purely looking after ourselves, a draw would be the best outcome….

As so often with the English media, Arsene Wenger was yet again asked questions in his press conference about everything going on in football right now – well it’s time leave all that behind.

There’s a lot to play for in this league yet and for Arsenal it’s time to stick the fingers up to the rest and worry about one team only, and of course we all know which team that is…

Let the neighbours worry about the future of Harry Redknapp, not Wenger or us!

Let AVB worry about whether or not he will be sacked and replaced by Fabio Capello, not Wenger or us!

Let England worry about John ‘Thomas’ Terry, not Wenger or us!

Let Dalglish & Fergie worry about Suarez versus Evra today, not Wenger or us!!

Let us worry about none of the above, let us worry about Sunderland because Sunderland is who we face today, no-one else, no other team, just one and that’s Martin O’Neil’s Sunderland!!

They are a side on the rise since the appointment of their new manager but, midweek they played in an FA Cup replay which went into extra-time, their little legs will hopefully be heavy and tired and we have to take advantage of that today.

Sunderland have many good players and they are still trying to impress their new manager but hey, we are travelling up north full of confidence after the 7-1 victory over Blackburn.

Let the confidence gather one more notch today, that’s all we need to think about…..

We can talk about stats, we can talk about previous encounters and we can talk about players injured or available but we all know that this season, things like that have gone out the window.

No game is easy for us these days but we are partly to blame for that, turn up today in the right frame of mind, then three points are ours!!

One day at a time, one game at a time…..

Let’s just go and win this one today….??

Have a good day all….

    3rd,are you sure Rico???
I have had a few beers, but I reckon 4th would be good lol.
Just sitting in a place that reminds of the Willy Wonka chocolate factory, enjoying some desserts.
Getting my energy levels up for the night ahead.

  2. rico says:

Morning Scott, got all ahead of myself then, forgot that the scum are in there too, guess that’s because we are not used to seeing them in top 4, let alone 3rd 😉

  3. Scott from Oz says:

Maybe the scum themselves forget where they are…..let’s hope so.
I did a quote for a guy today who was from Luton……my second favourite team from way,way back……..great talking to him.
He tells me his dad still lives a few hundred yards from the ground, but his brother lives a few hundred yards fron The Emirates!!!!!!!
Accommodation sorted for my trip over, hopefully next year.
    Just need tickets!!!!!!

    Morning Rico,
If all goes to plan i can only see one result and that is in our favour, we have the better team and we are coming off of an emphatic win we are away from home and Sunderland have a new manager who has gee’d them up and lifted their confidence, this will not be an easy game but i think our confidence is rising, injured players ready for a return so our spirits should be high. I go for 2-3 result.Nice post Ricolicious 🙂

  5. rico says:

Morning Steve, thanks – plus they had a tough game midweek, if they are anything like our players, they will be exhausted 😉

At least their super striker Nikki B won’t be playing 😉

  6. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners.
    Morning Rico.
Just having my first cuppa of the day.
Marca are just a bunch of shit~stirring arseholes.
But we knew we’d get all this crap. We had it with Vieira, Henry, Reyes, Cesc and we’ll continue to get it until the policy of the club changes from being a selling club.

  7. Micko says:

    Morning all,
Barca coveting our captain in the middle of february, they can jog on.

Scott, get some shut eye, we’ll give you an alarm call nearer kick-off, mackems to get a 2-1 spanking today.

    Nice saturday morning sermon rico.

  8. mog says:

    everton v chelsea
    utd v liverpool
    spurs v newcastle..

somebody is dropping points today hopefully not us.
would’nt bet against it of coause.

  9. allezkev says:

Shame about TH12. You just kinda know that the script had been written for him to score the winner against the Scum.

  10. alan b'stard M P says:

    Hi all

Arsenal are unbeaten in the last four meetings, although they have failed to win on their last three trips to the Stadium of Light.

It’s going to be a tough one

  11. devilgunner says:

Good day guys and chicks of the Gunners faith.

Just a short hop today. I missed you all yesterday. But I was very far away from a computer. And today its the same.

Later tonight friends. Just after the game.

  12. DutchGooner10 says:

    Afternoon Dracula worshippers,

Will we draw blood today?? If we sink our teeth in early we will. Although, a 0-1 is good enough. I can’t buy 7 bottles of champagne each week.

Let’s not get caught coughing on garlic and dodge the silver bullets.

  13. stevepalmer1 says:

Loved the tackle between Squares Ferdinand and Evera did they want to take Squares out or what typical Utd and what a fcuk up Squares must have chuckled.

  14. Tlailaxu says:

…Ideally I wish for draw between Newcastle and Totties,Chelsea lose…and draw in manU vs Liverpool, though last one is now unlikely after 2 Rooney goals I think it might turn into a nasty beating…I’m not sure we heading up the chart today but a win and as many goals is vital…

  15. Micko says:

Steve, heard it all kicked off in the tunnel at halftime between suarez and Evra, they both deserve each other.

  16. rico says:

Team in full: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Song, Arteta, Rosicky, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Van Persie.

Substitutes: Fabianski, Gibbs, Coquelin, Ramsey, Arshavin, Benayoun, Henry.

Here you go JM, and it’s cold up north 😉

  17. Joaquim Moreira says:

    line-up:
    Arsenal: Szczesny,
    Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen,
    Song, Arteta, Rosicky,
    Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Van Persie.

Subs: Fabianski, Gibbs, Coquelin, Ramsey, Arshavin, Benayoun, Henry.

  18. rico says:

Thanks Micko – i get tired of Wenger being asked the same old questions about what’s going on elsewhere – if i were him i’d tell the media that i’m only prepared to answer afc related questions, nothing else concerns him….

  19. Joaquim Moreira says:

Sunderland Va a ser: Mignolet, Bardsley, Turner, O’Shea, Richardson, Larsson, Gardner, Colback, McClean, Sessegnon, Campbell.
    MU 2 Liverpool 1

  20. DutchGooner10 says:

Hiya Rico. AW kinda brings the burden to himself. Acting like a captain of industry instead of a club coach turns you into a quote machine for the media.

  21. rico says:

Hi DG, you are right – why he just can’t stick to being a manager and keep his nose out of other affairs lord only knows… i read all the stuff on afc.com about having to make money etc, what has all that really got to do with him??

    That’s Gazidis problem….

  22. Micko says:

Hi rico, everyone knows wenger has a sticky beak.

These saturday 3’oclock kick-offs will never take off you know.

JM, they don’t feel the cold in the North East, doesn’t matter how cold it gets, they still walk around in their t-shirts.

  23. Scott from Oz says:

Rico,I said earlier that i think his comments on profits were on direction of the board.
I think they’ve finally allowed him to hint at what plenty suspect……he doesnt spend because he isn’t allowed to.
    Just a theory,but it fits.
Yes guys,I’m up…..2 am kick offs suck lol.

  24. Micko says:

No, the nephew was playing Gaelic football, i had to show my face.

Will watch it tonight, a bit fiesty by all accounts.

  25. DutchGooner10 says:

Rico already had bit of conversation with WATH last night about it. Didn’t want to go off topic as you rightly pointed out; THE GAME IS ALL THAT MATTERS.

Le Grove went out to debunk it. The trouble Arsenal have is that they made supporting so about business that the fans had to go out and educate themselves in corporate finance. Now we’re all educated, it’s becoming harder for Arsene to spin his nonsense.

Danny Fiszman a few years back:

‘There is this constant thing that the Emirates is bleeding the club, that we’ve got these repayments —it’s total crap –look at our accounts and you will see our net payments are £20m and the revenue increase from the new stadium is close to £50m. Explain to me how the stadium bleeds the club if it’s producing an extra £30m a year’.

  26. rico says:

But the Board shouldn’t be putting him on the line Scott, they should be ones doing that kind of talking, not the manager

  27. rico says:

It was funny Micko – I love games like that when it doesn’t involve us 😉

DG, I saw the comments last night and the Fisman bit, kind of makes the comments look all a bit daft really – and i think even i can work out roughly how much we make a year, and i’m not the brightest 😉

And selling players as we did in the summer at high prices, we can all roughly work out how much we have to spend…

It’s totally belittles what comes out of the club….

  28. rico says:

Hi HG – lets hope so eh….

They don’t very often Scott, they are hopeless, all we hear is IG every blue moon and an odd crazy comment from PHW…

  29. allezkev says:

We’ve just gotta stay disciplined and tight at the back.
And Sunderland will run outta puff in the 2nd 45.
    Hi Lee

  30. allezkev says:

Not sure i would have started Rosicky instead of Coquelin.
    Great to have Sagna back.
Blackburn 2~0…….. QPR must be absolute rubbish!

  31. Scott from Oz says:

    I didn’t Rico,but he’s such a miserable little shit.
If our boys stay patient,we will get over the top of them.

  32. Micko says:

Scott, no-one can question Rosicky’s committment, he’ll run all day for the team buts there’s no end product.
He’s making his 100th start for Arsenal today, hard to believe.

  33. allezkev says:

    Rico. I’m listening to 5Live.
0~0 at half~time will do me. Sunderland legs will start to go around 70th min.

  34. rico says:

My point Scott is no matter how bad he is, AW doesn’t do subs until 60+ mins 😉

AK, makes a change for them to be reporting our game…. sure hope you are right, is it a pacey game?

  35. Rokabox says:

    Afternoon HH,
Iam watching the game, & its like Sunday league, pitch is awful ad DG said,
Merts was lucky the ref didn’t see he handed the ball when he stumbled awkwardly inside the box. He had no challenge from anybody whatsoever.
Everybody is way under bar not to mention theo, ox, rvp, song.
Good saves from shczney. Will be good if we manage a draw, o wait ox off henry on we gonna loose this one folks

  36. DutchGooner10 says:

Scott indeed. And we have to go through this same shit for the FA again. O’Neill sucking his water bottle, trotting aimlessly up and down, directing his 10-0-0 to stick to their foxholes. Dozing that is.

  37. rico says:

    What happened with Merts???

    Hi Rokabox….

Everton 2-0 and looks like yet again we won’t be taking advantage….

  38. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, teams need to understand its a game, and meant to entertain.
It’s not sour grapes, but I loathe any sporting team that plays this way.

  39. allezkev says:

Looks like Koz & Verm in c/b vs Milan. Wonder if Mert turned an ankle or something, due to the state of the pitch.

  40. Scott from Oz says:

AK…..went down like a knee to my eye.
Pitch really is a shocker….turned out to perfection to stifle us.

  41. rico says:

It’s not pretty Scott but they have every right to play the ‘park the bus’ – I don’t like it either but if it wins points, so be it…

We should be changing our tactics to get passed it…..

  42. allezkev says:

No Rico, game isn’t on 5Live. Just goal news & occassional report.
ESP’s favourite has done the trick. 🙂

  43. Scott from Oz says:

They are the home side……what’s wrong with playing to win?
I’m in the minority,I know, but this is meant to entertain us.
    Anyway,one goal…….come on lads.

  44. allezkev says:

Knee eh. Won’t be long before Squillaci is back on the bench..!
But we don’t need Vertonghen do we Arsene?!

  45. Micko says:

Dunno if it was his knee or ankle kev, he went down like a sack of potato’s, probably gonna be out for a while, looked serious.

  46. rico says:

Djourou/Squilli on the bench for Milan then, how inspiring is that, as you say AK, we didn’t need Vertonghen did we….

No doubt AW will blame the pitch….

  47. rico says:

Thierry Henry, Thierry Henry, Thierry Henry 🙂 🙂

Great cross by the Meerkat 😉

Jose will be back there Scott…..

  48. rico says:

    Level 4th, same goal average…

So, who do we want to win between the yids and newcastle…

ok, i’ll get me coat 😉

  49. Scott from Oz says:

3.54 am……need to be up at 6.45…..no problem.
Too bloody hyped up to sleep!!!!
Excuse the french, but I am fucking rapt!!!!!
I get a bit pissed off waking at ridiculous hours to watch a side bore me to tears…..
That finish made it all worthwhile.
As much to penalise those boring shits as anything.
Finally, finally, finally……we take advantage of other teams losses!!!!!

  50. Bendtnersgone says:

I would happily see the spuds lose to the Toon now. Newcastle would only be 2 points above us and we can overhaul that but the spuds would then only be 7 ahead and their arses would start puckering up. Why aim for fourth behind the noisy neighbours when we can turn them over? They’re our next league game at home so it’s all to play for!!

  51. stevepalmer1 says:

Micko thanks for the blinding stream link your a gentlman 🙂
What a frustrating game that was i have never seen so many negative passes in all my life finally Arsewipe comes on and crosses a ball of all people. Walcott useless cant cross can’t pass i am begining to lose my patience with him. I have moaned about Henry coming back but today i love him again. legend he surly is. what a mug am i 🙁

  52. Micko says:

I said when Henry turned up that if Wenger played him he could well be 2nd in the goal scoring charts behind rvp, he still could do it, amazing what a little bit of quality can bring to the team, it does have its rewards.

  53. Scott from Oz says:

Steve,I called it with Theo in the first half.
You know early on if he is on or not,and today he was terrible.
That ball from Arshavin was pure genius.
Forget the whys and ifs, just give him the credit for a touch of absolute class.
AK….I will be working when we play AC,so you guys will need to keep me informed
    Go you Gunners!!!
    We deserved that!!!!!
Can someone duck over and fix me a coffee???

  54. Scott from Oz says:

I don’t mean to blow Wengers trumpet, but three changes were made, two subs scored and the other set one up.
He’s stuffed up recently, but everything just went perfectly for a change.
I’m tipping we won’t see the BFG again this season.
I watch AFL here,a sport that lends itself to knee injuries, and he went over exactly the same way as I’ve seen plenty going knee ligaments.
    Obviously,I hope I am wrong.

  55. Scott from Oz says:

    No Rico,not at sll.
Song was bloody woeful going forward.
He pulled off a sensational pass last week, but tried too many impossible balls today.
    Ox was well contained.
    RVP was as well.
The bus convoy did its job well.

  56. rico says:

Even ill give credit to wenger for the subs today Scott 😉

But…. from what has been said about Theo, AW got it wrong to leave him on so it’s a bit of a double edge sword 😉

Wenger says he is still trying to get TH to stay a little longer…..

Also, suspected ankle ligament damage for Merts, scan tomorrow..

AW says the pitch was ‘difficult’ 😉

  57. rico says:

That’s my point Scott, and don’t forget, you have been telling me to be positive 😉

Sometimes the players who have had a bad run are singled out when the team is down, it wasn’t only Theo who was poor, many were but still Theo gets highlighted as he’s an easy target….

AA’s cross today was sublime but we all know Henry will take the plaudits for his finish on certain blogs….

    Yids are 2-0 up already!!

  58. Micko says:

Rico, if truth be told, shirt sales alone would fund a pay off to the redbulls, if arsenal wanted it bad enough it would happen.

  59. rico says:

Staying positive, we have just played Sunderland and at The Stadium of Light, we didn’t fire on all cylinders, the pitch was cack, their tactics were boring but….

We are the side going home with three points and thats all that matters on days like today….

  60. rico says:

😆 Micko, i think will happen, in fact i think its prob already sorted – AW is just waiting for the last minute to let everyone know that TH will be here for the Yids game….

  61. Scott from Oz says:

I stand corrected right back at you Steve….ankle it is.
Rico,I think we could all be a little more realistic at times….
As fans though,i reckon we should always stay positive.
What other way can support the team???
We cant get out there and do it for them lol.
Anyways,I need some sleep,so good evening all,and what an evening it was.

  62. rico says:

Realist I am by the way, positive always, no, not when the club can’t make just a couple of tweaks to a side that could win something with those tweaks….. 🙁

  63. rico says:

    We are offically 4th 🙂

Thank goodness we removed the ‘The’ from The Arsenal, otherwise we’d be 5th 😉 😉

  64. Micko says:

Laters Gooners, i’m off out to play.

Dutch, just the two bottles of champagne tonight and maybe some chips with your stake !!!!!

  65. allezkev says:

Mick i make you spot on.
I said earlier that i thought the reason TH12 is going back to Shaun’s world, is finance.
Arsenal are so tight at times it makes me despair.

  66. allezkev says:

Not too bothered about the Yids.
I’ll worry about them in a fortnight’s time.
Let them pile up the goals.
    Kill off Newcastle for us.

  67. rico says:

Night Micko, have a good one, I suspect you will 😉

That’s my thought AK, look after ourselves and then batter them at The Ems 🙂

  68. allezkev says:

BFG has ankle ligaments, hmm, bad, but not as bad as the knee.
Might be a 3 or 4 week job.
Gibbs or Coquelin in Milan then?
Give me Miquel in front of the Squillmonster any day of the week.

  69. allezkev says:

What a bummer to think that soon we’ll have no more TH12 & it’ll be Chamuckup coming off of the bench.
    I’d rather see Afobe…

  70. stevepalmer1 says:

Suarez and Evra will get the headlines tomorow for not shaking hands at the start of their match, Evra was upset that Suarez who he branded a racist and had his name branded all over the world of football, which consequently made the FA ban him for 8 games. And Evra wonders why Suarez didn’t want to shake his hand.Pathetic

  71. allezkev says:

Wonder how Ryo played at the Reebok?

You can bet that Sunderland will the plough out next weekend. That’s gonna be tougher than today. O’Neill will be like a rabid dog in his efforts to exact a revenge on Wenger.
So Arsene had better not harbour any notions of playing a second string up there.
Or else we’ll get our arse kicked…

  72. rico says:

I’m not convinced he’s gone yet AK, the MLS are only just going into pre-season training, what better than satying with us to do that and play the odd 10/15 mins to stay fit 😉

Suarez made himself look an idiot though Steve, a ‘true man’ would have risen above all the s**t and shaken his hand, then gone onto the pitch and had the last laugh….

But, Evra’s reaction was pathetic, absolutely pathetic….. talk about play to the camera….

And you know me, i hate the dippers so i loved it 😉 😉

  73. allezkev says:

That’s not good, especially considering the extent of the injury Santos had.
    That’s far too long out.
    It is not good enough.
Stupid Wenger for risking him in the first place.

  74. devilgunner says:

    Hiya folks.

    Back again today.

I saw the game and I have to say that although the Sunderland player was professional I do think that if he was decent he would have put the ball out of play. I do not agree with Rokabox when he said that Merts had a shocker’s fall……it is ligament damage. When he went down I told my dad that it might have been his achilles and its only now that I read that its ankle. Sorry mate but when someone falls like that and does not stand up again its an injury.

I would also like to point out that our winner was scored through a mentality which our players lack….that is instinctual mentality. Henry did something that our forwards lack and that is running from the blind side of a defender and between two of them when both are watching the ball. Ok, RVP does score a lot, but from all the games we won it is with today that I am happy since RVP did not score. I have nothing against the lad….its simply that I want other players to start scoring and not only RVP.

Today the team was compact and there was no inter departmental stretching. Each unit was within range of the other and the team had a nice triangular pattern to each of its departments.

It irritates me that the subs occur around the 60 to 65 minute. Why not earlier? And why its always the junior one and not the one who is having a stinker?

  75. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Hi devil!
Agree with Mets of course. I think he will be out 3-4 weeks…
Well, form me the League could finish now. We reach our goals;-)

  76. devilgunner says:

However I also happen to think that the present system is one akin to when we had TH before, then FF and now RVP….everything goes through one main man. And that is the core of our problems. During the whole game it was all aimed at RVP…with the result that he was overcrowded and double marked and we could not find a way. When TH came on RVP dropped back and hence the winner because the centrebacks relaxed and there was no depth marking. Both of them were flat and TH simply floated between them while RVP was not in his usual position.

So I simply ask this…..why doesnt Theo and the Ox interchange positions with RVP to confuse opposing defences? Going through RVP all the time makes us one dimensional and too narrow.

  77. Rokabox says:

Hi again, just recovered from all that euphoria, no thanks to the spuds.
They really look awoesome I regret to say.
Devil you are the coach and I agree with all your comments especially the sporting gesture re Merts injury that led to the goal, but you have to admit it was a shocker & self inflicted, though not a fall, I dont know if he clipped his heel or something. The guy just looked clumpsy and awkward all afternoon. Not to mention his shocking attempts of headers .

  78. devilgunner says:

His studs caught in the turf Rok. At the same time he turned and that is why his ligaments gave way. It is not a serious injury…..at one time I was afraid it was his achilles heel.

Regarding the spuds I do agree with you…they do look awesome. But the only diufference is that they change their formation according to the opposition. Today they played 4-4-2 and NUFC were caught on the hop. Usually they go 4-4-1-1 but today their centrebacks had to contend with Saha and Adebarndoor who by the way had a good game.

We play the same formation no matter what. And remember…we are where we are simply because of lack of new staff. Newcastle are the best of the worst.

Its not that we are so bad……its our mentality and the habit of shooting ourselves in the foot which has us in the place we are today. With more attention we can easily be 15 points better off.

  79. allezkev says:

Please Mr Abramovitch. Give AVB the time to get it ‘right’.

The end of April should do.

    AVB Must Stay…… 🙂

  80. DutchGooner10 says:

Sorry folks had to footrace quickly. That was some awsome Victorian literature from Count Henry and the pocket Russian. I’m off now to fade into the mist. Take care all. See ya 2morrow.

  81. devilgunner says:

    Hiya AK.

    Good to see you here.

    I am off now.

    Got to rest.

Will send you an email tomorrow.

Good night folks. Hope to see you tomorrow.

  82. Scott from Oz says:

    Would Mourinho go back Wath?
I reckon hes counting the days til Ferguson retires.
Devil…the reason i asked whether Ox would make a striker, with RVP playing as true #10 was to give more options.
He is good enough to score 15 or 20 goals from there, and if Ox can grab similar numbers,we would be pretty formidable.
RVP can also put up a great pass,so I reckon its worth a go.
Rico,my realist comment was aimed at all Gooners, including me.
I think we are all guilty of overstating how well we are going at times, whilst being overly critical at others.
Spurs…well,I couldn’t care less if they finish 3rd.
If they continue to beat those teams around us,and we finish top 4,i will be happy.
Admittedly, being an Aussie means i don’t have the rivalry and hatred you guys do,so i respect your views on that.
I must say again that Arshavins ball to Henry was absolute genius….it gets better each time I see it.
I know what everyone thinks of him,but I am just enjoying that moment.

  83. allezkev says:

How fantastic, must the journey home from Wearside, have been for all our superb away fans.
Having experienced quite a few trips back South myself, from grim Northern towns, i can imagine the buzz on all the Arsenal coaches.
Lets hope those great away fans are repeating the experience next week.
Ramsey needed that goal, big time, now lets see him push on and get a few more.
Saw BFG collapse on MotD, it didn’t look good, and no news on him yet is worrying. Same old same old..!
Nobody will give us a chance in the San Siro.
    So no pressure then..?!
    TH12’s last game.
Another winner from the King possibly?

    One match at a time.
Thanks to all Football Gods that after an intense CL CUp tie against Milan, it is FA CUp next….and then “well-rested” to beat S*CUMS the week after.

WIll Wenegr fields a 2nd stringer against Sunderland with an eye for the week after against S*CUMS?

I have a bad feeling that S*CUMS is the real thing after they demolished an in-form Newcastle 5-0……..hope we beat ’em and kick-start their annual “blip”….

    Scum are incredibly good,brilliant,superb.
    What a side.
Oh,unless you put them under pressure, where they are shit, crap, useless.
Stick it to them early, and its an easy day out.
Sustain their pressure for twenty minutes and they panic.
They will beat us home in the League, but we will beat them at home.
    Go you Gunners.
    We love you Arsenal,we do……even down under……..
