Ramsey to miss start of season? £50m bid for Suarez and Napoli want Gustavo…

Morning all…

Three things in the news today:

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil.....
Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil…..

The first relates to us readying a £50 million bid for Luis Suarez. Not sure about that but apparently the player has made it clear that he will not apologise to Brenda or anyone else at Liverpool, including the fans. He believes that he has done no wrong nor said anything wrong so that will carry on rumbling away until either the player or club give.

The second relates to Luiz Gustavo, that story about us in talks with Bayern Munich rumbles on too, best we get on with it though if Arsene is serious as other clubs are interested in the player. Napoli are one of those clubs, surely we won’t lose out to them twice?

Finally, and quite  worrying, the BBC report that Aaron Ramsey has an ankle injury is and could miss Wales friendly fixture against  Republic of Ireland.

Personally, I couldn’t care less if he misses the International, in fact I hope he does. What is more of a concern is how bad the injury is..

Aaron Ramsey had a really good end to last season (once Arsene Wenger stopped playing him out of position) and he’s certainly carried on where he left off. We need him fit, healthy and raring to go. As we do them all of course.

Ramsey can’t wait for the season to kick off and looks forward to trip to Turkey for the Champions League qualifier:

It’s obviously going to be a very tough game for us but we did a lot of hard work last season to get into this position so we’re looking forward to the test of going there.

We had a really good result there a few years back. The support there is quite phenomenal and I’m sure they’ll be up for it again.

But we realise what we have to do and I’m sure with this group of players, we’re more than capable of producing a good performance and result.

I’m looking forward to the new season too and can’t believe there’s only five more sleeps…..

Finally, Happy Birthday to Canadian Gooner, have a wonderful day….

Have a good day all….

  1. Bradster says:

    Morning all,

Back to work for me after my extended weekend.
Thanx everyone for the birthday wishes including the gift of a win from the boys.

I see Carragher says Rogers will look like a fool if he sells to Arsenal after what he said. wonder what he thinks of Wenger, he said the same thing every season bar this one?

  2. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to the Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners.

I’d be surprised if Arsenal make another offer for Suarez, especially £50 million, before Liverpool give some indication they are willing to deal. Any bid before that would only exacerbate the current stand-off between the clubs and increase Liverpool’s intransigence.

  3. rico says:

Keith, I’d be pretty happy with that too…

Hope you had a fab weekend of celebration Bradster..

Morning Cg, you too, a lovely weekend with the family I hope?

Riddich, keep hoping, I’m trying to convince myself that we’ll get some good news soon…

  4. kel says:

Well it looks like the squad we have atm, is the squad to face fenerbahce, unless of course we actually sign a player within the next few hrs. Not sure what the cut off time is,I just know its sometime today. I feel disappointed tbh, I thought we would have strengthened the team for the qualifier, giving us the best possible chance, A bit neglectful from wenger & co. Imo.

  5. rico says:

Ah yes kel, the squad details have to be in today, I think someone said we are allowed to make one change.

I’m surprised we haven’t added anyone yet but to be honest, if we can’t beat Dick Kite and his motley crew over two legs, we don’t deserve to get through anyway…

  6. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Thank you! Yes I had a wonderful weekend. Arsenal’s 3-1 win on Saturday morning and a great feast of a berbecue in the afternoon.

My older son cooked up a great variety of barbecued items. My grandson (16 mos. old) delighted in demonstrated his budding skills of kicking a football. His twin sister isn’t showing any interest, not yet anyway, but she is still a darling with a devastating smile.

A few good player purchases this week and a good result against Villa on Saturday will round out a great week.

  7. rico says:

Glad to hear that Cg – I won’t ask what was on the Bbq 😉

I didn’t see the game, only the goals which were all very good, if we can do the same in the PL and cups, we’ll all be happy..

Of course with a few additions to the squad….

  8. bc says:

I still think we need a player for each line, with priority being 1. and lesser priprity being 5.
    3. Keeper
    1. Defender
    2. Holding mid
    5. Attacking mid/winger
    4. Striker

  9. rico says:

Wayne Rooney is training with England, Oops, didn’t Moyes insist he was unfit…

I read Moyes lost it during an interview after their win over Wigan…

  10. Bradster says:

I only got to see the highlights yesterday CG but most enjoyable thanx.
I went away with the wifee so ya it was awesome Rico

  11. james says:

Hi gooners suares hv decided according to thier agreement, he is interested 2 com 2 arsenal let him come pls Wenger pls we need suares pls…tnx fans

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

Bradster – Your welcome. When you didn’t post, I assumed you were doing something special with the family.

  13. rico says:

West Ham have snapped up Stewart Downing for just £5 million…. £15 million loss for the dippers in just two years…

  14. rico says:

bc – i can’t see us getting number 5, that’s where I think AW will use the younger players – not ideal of course…

  15. rico says:

Bradster, most would say that made it not so good 😉

Thank you Cg…. I watched some of the game yesterday, Man Utd looked quite tame, they had many chances but Wigan had a spell when they could easily of nabbed a couple of goals too…

  16. Bradster says:

McCarthy didn’t look anywhere near that silly price tag he had a few weeks ago.
Phil Jones is still a thug, nice to see Clattenberg took his Man U tinted glasses off and blew him up a few times.

Sadly I still see RVP been as good this season so I put him in my fantasy team along with Negredo and Soldado. No Arsenal striker 🙁 no confidence in them.

Surely Wenger could’ve signed a defender by now. We are short there, either a RB or CB.

  17. Canadian Gooner says:

None of the three players the Dippers purchased with the Torres transfer fee have worked out for them. A real waste of money.

  18. Bradster says:

Haha Rico, guess cos it’s still early days I still enjoy her company. I’m only married a year and a half.

  19. Canadian Gooner says:

It seems Moyes inherited or already possesses Auld Whisky Noses temper. Let us hope that he doesn’t inherit Fergie’s jammy luck or influence with the referees.

  20. tsgh says:

    Morning all,

Its good to know Chamakh agreed to mutually terminate his contract. He did not even demand any compensation….

    With B-52 and his 2 agents,well that is a different story….
there is probably a clause in his contract with us stipulating that we still have to pay his wages until he is 35 y.o

  21. Ryan L says:

I still live in hope, I really do, but going into those CL qualifiers with such a thin squad is gross mis-management on someone’s part – AW or IG or DL – I don’t know, but that is a very expensive gamble to be taking, especially with the hard work of the end of last season to get to the point of these qualifiers.

  22. emma says:

    Goodmorning all,

Benitez is trolling arsenal. Arsenal should wrap up the Gustavo deal ASAP

Ramsey injury I believe is just precautionary. Hopefully he plays vs Villa this weekend.

Rooney by all account is leaving for Chelsea. I had a laugh when pursering was pleading for him to stay yesterday when interviewed.

  23. tsgh says:

I agree Brad, McCarthy was always going to be overrated with him being eligible for England and all…

He like MF are one of those players who turned up for live TV games whilst they appeared a shadow of themselves a few days later.

Cg, Rednose is still on the board and probably coaches on the act of skullduggery…

  24. rico says:

Bradster – if we get Gustavo, he can play in defence too so there’s are defence cover I would suspect.

    🙂 re your weekend…

  25. Canadian Gooner says:

    Ginge – Good Morning.

I see tha Denmark coach has omitted Bendtner from the team for this weeks friendly and told him it’s unlikely he make the roster for future games if he is not playing regularly. He wont be playing regularly, if at all, with Arsenal.

So, if he doesn’t negotiate a transfer in the next few weeks, his career may be over; other than picking-up his wage packet from Arsenal for another year. That brings a crocodile tear to my eyes. What a shame, or is that sham?

  26. tsgh says:

    raphael honigstein ‏@honigstein 11h

The price quoted for LG from Bayern is €20m. His wages now are approx €3.5m, about 60 GBP

  27. Steven says:

Would prefer to see Rooney at Arsenal than Suarez. Rooney playing & training with Wilshire, Walcott & The Ox would be music to Wenger & Hodgsons ears ahead of the World Cup

  28. tsgh says:

    raphael honigstein ‏@honigstein 11h

To re-iterate: Rummenigge said this evening that L. Gustavo hadn’t decided on his future yet. (Agent fielding offers)

  29. Canadian Gooner says:

Kel – I wont be holding my breathe either. I don’t want to found dead at my keyboard come midnight. However, I will try and keep my fingers crossed and maintain positive thoughts.

  30. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Thank You, but there is no need for any flagellation. That will be my penance should you lose that fiver to Kev.

I’m praying for a very disappointed cabbie in Hackney.

  31. tsgh says:

We won’t be able to add any player today or by the deadline anyways because of international clearance… unless the player is a British international…

The squad for the CL will be as it is… 15/16 seniors plus 15 or so youngsters including Bellerin who trained the whole of last week with the seniors, Akpom, Hayden, Eisfield and Yennaris if he does not go on loan before the CL matches…

  32. Wavy says:

Gustavo is good but not that good. About 10m worth, I reckon, not more. We are desperate but not that desperate! Is this a product of IG’s inappropriate remarks pre-TW re all the money we had to spend? Do you know what? We’ve still got it!
A fool and their money are soon parted!
    But
All these offers (2) and no results, mmm!

  33. Canadian Gooner says:

emma – R. van Pursestings pleading for Vain Wooney to stay strikes me as being somewhat ironic and disingenuous. Maybe someone will take him aside and point that out to him, but I doubt it.

  34. S2S says:

    Hey,

Emma I did read Swissramble and being a finance professional, I was impressed. The most interesting part is we’ve spent just 1% of all fortune on transfer, rest money has gone for Debt and Arsenalisation. Not bad for washed away, has been, oldy like AW.

When does our annual report come out? This year it should be a cracking one.

  35. tsgh says:

Van Pursey also questioned why Manure were not the favourites for the EPL title? lol
Maybe he wants to break the record that says no team has won the EPL after winning the Community shield…

  36. rico says:

emma – RvP made me laugh too, what with Moyes arriving and Rooney going, he must be gutted. And knowing his mate Cesc isn’t heading to Manchester must have him crying in his cornflakes…

  37. Canadian Gooner says:

Bradster – Thank You! So far the day is off to great start. I just hope the team oblige me on Saturday like they did you.

  38. tsgh says:

s2s, Emma- swiss ramble is always on point and so are Delliotte… what the so called experts will not say when preaching that AW does not spend is we signed an agreement not to spend more than 70% of what we generate on our sales…

  39. tsgh says:

AW on Theo and Ramsey- “Walcott put in a great performance. I’m happy with both sides of his game – he defended very well and [set up] two goals. His game has improved tremendously because he’s an intelligent player. When you’re intelligent, you always improve.

“I have always believed in Aaron and I think he has shown again what a tremendous engine and what desire he has. His vision has improved and his tactical aspect has improved a lot. He’s growing into a very strong player.”

  40. tsgh says:

    Good point Wavy…10:46

I always said that IG remark was self-serving for a man who has given the club nothing. Some fans thought he was ensuring AW spent.

AW can also come out and say IG is clueless with his job and Fox and Law are clueless negotiators but will that help…

In June DD was certain he will be back at Arsenal… my conspiracy head will tell me that this window’s disappoint will make AFC appoint a technical Director or Director of football in DD. imo….

  41. emma says:

Theo has improved defensively unlike when he doesn’t track his man back leaving sagna/jenks hanging out dry

  42. tsgh says:

I have no idea lady Emma… I can’t get google translator to work on office laptop for security reasons I will check later on…

  43. S2S says:

Ts- Many times I thought SR is over rated, not this time. It was a nice, well researched article. It also says we have 116M in cash reserves, while we need to maintain 24M in cash reserves so that frees up about 96M + what ever we make on player transfers.

So this year we do have chance of competing. Btw, all that 100M is generated due to prudence of AW and 4th place trophy that got us there. If we hadn’t been in CL every year for past 8 years, our balances have been negative. So I guess 4th place really has taken us where we are right now else we really would have doom and gloom scenario.

Just hinking about that scenario and post on LG for that makes me chuckle.

  44. tsgh says:

On Theo’s defensive ‘willingness’ I hope he maintains that. Theo always defends in big games that is why I consider him our biggest and important player in big games… its the games against the likes of Norwich and Swansea where he decides to just coast…

  45. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – Thank You and Good Evening.

Everyone in the House was surprised you didn’t post after Saturday’s game; especially with Ramsey did so well.

I understand congratulations are in order as you have been dubbed noble.

One thing confuses me though. If you are always wrong and Ginge is always right (that may be self proclaimed), yet you both agree about Ramsey, isn’t that a paradox?

  46. tsgh says:

😀 Cg… Scott is always wrong because he does not rate Sagna and AW… lol

I am never right Cg… I can’t even get my Mrs to listen to me on buying shoes but I will take a leaf out of AW’s pages and keep it on the hush…. lol

  47. Bradster says:

Have they changed the rules for playoffs since we played Udinase the last time?
I remember we added Ryo to that squad after the A list was submitted.

  48. tsgh says:

Brad, Ryo was on the B list so no worries there… we can still add any 14 y.o we want up to a few hours before a game as I understand it…

  49. S2S says:

Scott doesn’t rate Sagna? C’mon man, he along with Tommy and Seb is rockstar. If we need to raise money for charity I think our boy band will include those 3.

  50. Bradster says:

Zaha yesterday reminds me of Zalalem. They both have that something that will be amazing with coaching and experience. Pure raw talent.

  51. tsgh says:

I was kidding on Scott and Sagna…

He thought like most he had past it but I always felt it was more to do with Theo playing in front of him as the RW… Theo offered little or no defensive cover all all…

The reason why AW liked to play RAmsey on the RW earler in the season to help CJ25 out… Ramsey imo made CJ25 look much better than he was because Ramsey was tactically astute…

  52. tsgh says:

WHU are buying some ‘doodles’ too… I can’t understand some managers obsession with playing lip service to the idea of having a purely English or British team…

The national team is testament to the mediocrity of most English players. Didn’t the sky pundits predict that Wooney will be the main man ahead of Judas last summer?

  53. tsgh says:

Q:Can Luis Suárez force his way out by submitting a transfer request?

A:It would not make any difference. The press always make a big thing of players potentially submitting transfer requests but they actually are a non-factor in football. In Suárez’s case it all depends on a specific clause in his contract but generally, if a player is under contract, it is up to the club whether they sell or keep him. If a transfer request is issued, a player might lose part of a signing-on fee – these are usually paid in annual instalments – but, in the wider scheme of things, the amount of money forfeited would be relatively small and cancelled out by the financial benefits of being transferred.

Q:So is talking to the press and telling a journalist you want to leave a more effective tool than a transfer request?

A:Yes, the interview Luis Suárez has given to the Guardian is a more devastating tool than any transfer request. Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale may also find doing similar interviews to be much more effectiveweapons.

  54. Scott from Oz says:

CG/Ginge, i am guilty of not allowing Sagna the same leniency i afforded Aaron after injury.
I didn’t see the game so couldn’t jump on and brag.
I know i joke about “i told ya so” on Aaron, but i am just esctatic for the kid.
He now has most fans on side, and support can be a wonderful thing….he still has a few gears to go through in the coming years.

  55. S2S says:

    Btw ts, Emma, Rico,

    Any word on Perez staying?

Can he be understudy to Mikel Arteta?

If Arteta wins a trophy for us I am sure he’d have cult status @ Arsenal. There are hardly few players who are loved at 2 different English clubs and can be close to legendary status.

  56. tsgh says:

I am sure Mikel will be offered a coaching role after his contract.. AW really likes hima nd respects him… they alwaays seem to be in discussion during training from photos…

Hi Mr Scott… just teasing you a bit…

  57. tsgh says:

This explains why both PV04 and RVP who both use sports lawyers as their agents used the media to force a move… the didn’t even need a transfer r

A:Yes, the interview Luis Suárez has given to the Guardian is a more devastating tool than any transfer request. Wayne Rooney and Gareth Bale may also find doing similar interviews to be much more effectiveweapons.

  58. emma says:

S2S – It’s just 1 match but there were flashes of intelligence, discipline and composure. He can be understudy to Arteta. Still no word if arsenal will sign him though

  59. Bradster says:

So will the Ox be on the wing this season? In the middle he runs into players, only one to beat on the wing.

  60. Scott from Oz says:

I know Ginge, but it was a fair call.
I was banging on about giving Aaron time after his injury while criticising Sagna………
I must say Perez slipped under my guard and i had not heard of him until the weekend.
    What do peope think?
    Is he worth a go?

  61. S2S says:

Emma, I think we may keep him but parade him later on since he’s an underwhelming signing.

We may parade 3 south americans from different nationalities by the end of this transfer window.

Btw, anyone think we should bid for Macion to solve our RB issues?

  62. S2S says:

    Onto something different,

Did anyone see Bolt doing his magic yet again yesterday?

The man can’t stop winning can he?

  63. tsgh says:

Brad, it applies to all u-21’s. It ensures the A list is made up of seasoned pros…

Scott- Perez is interesting… as I have said before, I only saw him play in the 2nd half for his natives game against Turkey a couple of months ago for the u-20’s in the world cup…

He keeps things simple the right way… I am not a football expert but from the little I know about football and midfield greats, I know that a midfielder should have positional awareness and should only dribble out of trouble as a last resort.

A midfielder who thinks about dribbling before passing will not go very far in my opinion unless he learns to curb that instinct in his youth… One reason why the likes of Joe Cole who I consider the best English talent in the last 15 years was never quite a superstar… albeit he had injuries. Gerard and Scholes knew how to keep things very simple when needed.

That was the reason why I always felt AR16 was a better footballer not PLAYER than JW10… imho.

The reason why Zelalem may make it ahead of Aneke even though the later is bigger and more skilful.

The reason why CF04 made it ahead of the likes of David Bentley at Arsenal…

The English or British mentality when it comes to football in my opinion is against passers of the ball… they rather a player run with the ball and lose it than a side ways pass. imho of course…

That is why Ox is a concern for me too especially on the wings… He excites a lot of fans but….when he plays in central midfield he does the right things apart from the odd pass of the ball across the midfield area which is a big NO No…. imo.

  64. tsgh says:

s2s, Bolt is a great in the making…I just hope he does not step on the wrong toes and get done for assaulting a female, drugs or tax evasion 😉

Maicon is finished… he did not get games at $hitty…. he has joined RoMa anyways so it is out of the question imo…

  65. Scott from Oz says:

    Ginge, interesting comment.
This may sound a boast, but it isn’t.
Sean trains at the academy and they play our Central Coast Mariners A league teams youth academy U/9’s side regularly….our kids are 7.
Now there are some kids with massive talent, but all bar one want to take every opponent on until they lose the ball.
One kid has had his dumb dad in his ear from day one to look for the easy pass, and take the man on if need be.
The funny thing is this….Sean, the kid looking for the simple pass, is also the only kid to score for us in the last 4 games…..he has put 3 away.
I knew had talent all along, but his football brain is a few years ahead of his teammates.
Ok, that was a brag, but every word was true.
When we come over next yea, i would love to get him a game or two 🙂

  66. tsgh says:

    From ladyarse….

‘In quotes which are bound to bemuse Everton fans, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that Luis Suarez is letting the city down.’

  67. tsgh says:

I am happy for you Scott… fingers crossed he makes it… hopefully Martinez/Arteta or someone of that ilk will be in charge of the Arsenal and use AW’s philosophy.

What most fans forget is that sports was first and foremost an outlet for kids or youth to find an honourable standing in society. These days if a team does not win they are failures but in all walks of life, not everyone can win a Nobel prize… 😉

Without football someone like Suarez may be dead or in prison; just in my view…. Bolt may have been serving beverages to western tourist in Jamaica if he was not an athlete….

  68. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, it goes without saying it would be a dream to have him play for Arsenal, but realistically, it is a million to one.
While he enjoys he game and shows the talent, we will run with it.
He might wake up one day and never want to play again…..so be it.
Still, it is nice to dream 🙂

  69. tsgh says:

What matters is that he is happy in life and is well, healthy and treats people as he would like others to treat him… money and success is a small part imho…

  70. Canadian Gooner says:

Scott – I hope you’re going to have a quiet word in the shell like ear of the “…dumb dad…”. You have to keep these sideline parent coaches in line. They distract the players.

  71. tsgh says:

Ramsey has redrawn from Wales squad… excellent news in my view ;)We need him fit for AV who are scoring goals in pre-season especially Benteke…

  72. Scott from Oz says:

Ginge, he has a beautiful way about him mate.
    Polite, well mannered….a happy kid.
CG…..i would, but i can’t twist my neck around far enough to whisper in my own ear hahahaha

  73. tsgh says:

La Viola have pulled out of the rumoured Cesars deal…

He is still demanding a 4 year contract at 32 years…. He can’t be serious!

  74. tsgh says:

Me too Scott re AR16… no detailed news yet. But I am worried Wales released him especially with their depleted squad. Normally the keep players around. But I guess if he can’t train today or tomorrow there is no point ….

  75. Scott from Oz says:

Nah, most parents over here really know little about the game…..it is all about scoring goals.
It took a while, but the parents of our kids appreciate what we are trying to teach them.

  76. tsgh says:

Luiz has offers from England, Spain, Russia and Germany. The player has not made a decision, yet,” Rummenigge is quoted by Abendzeitung Muenchen.

  77. Canadian Gooner says:

Looks like Rummenigge is trying to drum up a bidding war for Gustavo. Hopefully we can seal the deal before that breaks out.

  78. Canadian Gooner says:

SYG – I think John Henry’s ill thought smoking remark will comeback to haunt him and Liverpool FC again and again.

  79. southyorkshiregunner says:

    How dare you WATH ….
He said last month and I quote “EXCLUSIVE: ARSENAL TRIGGER £23M FELLANI RELEASE CLAUSE” …
    He’s never wrong.

  80. W.A.T.H says:

CG, maybe it’s why Stan bought that ranch in Colorado… to grow some good gear to smoke and share with his mate john henry..?

  81. Scott from Oz says:

    I am off guys.
I expect to wake up to the news we have signed Gustavo.
Word has it he is very good, and has been getting playing tips off his big brother, Luis 🙂
    Cheers guys.

  82. southyorkshiregunner says:

Liverpool FC are a shambles CG. And I’m not just saying that re: the Suarez deal…
The media have a soft spot for them, thinking that they are a city full of amiable “Jimmy Tarbuck’s” who brought us the Beatles and helped give England European club-football domination, the latter of which is continually echoed by Liverpool supporters and their ex-players stating that they are a bigger club than Arsenal.
The truth is, and its something that rarely gets said, is that Liverpool FC robbed ALL English clubs of playing in Europe for years including Arsenal of playing in both the UEFA Cup in 1988 and the European Cup in 1989 …. and in the process put English club-football back 10 years …..

  83. Bradster says:

Perhaps we get Suarez and Fellani after we qualify for CL. Five days before the transfer window closes.

  84. SD UK says:

I think Chelsea won the Community shield and won the league as well in 2005.

So there is no bad omen about winning CS.

  85. Gunnerdna says:

Ts, ” Bolt is a great in the making.” LOL. Usain is 1 of the greatest sportsman of all times, if not the greatest athlete. Ts I thought u know stats.

  86. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – There was no need for Stan to go to that expense. We can ship him some B.C. Bud, known worlwide as the best quality smoking herb on the west coast of North America if not the whole planet.

I suspect the ranch is geared more as an inexhaustable source of top quality bullshit, something Stan is known to spread a lot of.

  87. Canadian Gooner says:

SYG – It always amuses and saddes me how the whole Heysel Disaster is glossed over or totally ignored by the press’s revisionist history. Yet, we are constantly reminded of every misdemeanor by any Arsenal player.

  88. Canadian Gooner says:

SD UK – Far more often than not, the winner of the shield does not win the league, that includes Arsenal.

  89. Canadian Gooner says:

mog – It’s just that we have spent so much time this last few weeks talking about the Bale, Wooney, and Suarez transfer sagas. A picture seems appropriate.

As Monaco’s former chief executive, Tor-Kristian Karlsen, noted, when commenting on Manchester City and Tottenham’s transfer activity this summer: “I for one doubt it’s a coincidence that the only two teams in the Premier League with genuine sporting directors (or technical directors or directors of football, if you like) are the ones who have appeared the most prepared, structured and with clear strategies in their work in the summer transfer market.”

If there is a modern, coherent transfer structure in place at Arsenal, then it seems remarkably well hidden. There may well be a great deal of activity behind the scenes, but the results speak for themselves.”

Given that we know we are going to be in the League next season why are targets not Spotted, prioritised and then acted on as soon as possible to allow time for moving to a new City/County etc… acclimatisation to the team, style of football.

Perhaps our best signing this season after the players we will buy would be a dedicated Sporting director to implement the signings. With the power to make the deals and if it involves paying slightly more than say Arsene thinks then so what get the player to improve the team.

Re Heysel CG… It was tragic, but it wasn’t just Liverpool supporters “at it”. I remember watching Juve supporters “bricking” the Belgian police on TV too.
All English clubs got banned, when in reality it should have been just Liverpool and Juventus.
The ban put club football back 10 years.

I was wrong re: Arsenal missing out twice during the ban. We missed out with European football 4 times – 1 European Cup and 3 UEFA Cups

If you’re intersted check the link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Heysel_Stadium_disaster

Not bad at all Sir…. how about life in sunny South Yorkshire.

Syg for your eyes only- Arsenal have invited Cameroonian defensive midfielder Michel N’Dougsa Mvondo on trial next week.
The 20-year-old becomes the fourth player to have been offered an opportunity to impress Gunners boss Arsene Wenger after scouts saw him star for Ivorian side ASEC Mimosas last season. ;-(

  95. W.A.T.H says:

SYG, Heysel was on the cards as well, Think you’ll find LFC fans were intent on revenge as they had got a good hiding the year before by Roma yet as we well know Uefa never did anything when other fans played up only when it was English fans..!

BERLIN – Schalke attacking midfielder Julian Draxler has pulled out of Germany’s friendly with Paraguay in Kaiserslautern on Wednesday due to an ankle injury.
The German Football Federation says the 19-year-old Draxler bruised his left Achilles tendon and sustained a cut on his calf during Schalke’s 3-3 draw at home with Hamburger SV on Sunday.
Draxler set up Klaas Jan Huntelaar’s opening goal in the second minute but had to go off injured in the 23rd.

Gündogan is now BVB09’s no.10 though as Gotze has left… Kehl and Bender play the DM/box to box role.

  98. southyorkshiregunner says:

Michel N’Dougsa Mvondo ? Never heard of him, Ginge.
Heard of the club though and …. and … and if you trawl through my posts of last preseason I mentioned that we would “probably end up signing XXXXX XXXXX from ASEC Mimosas”..
    …. I can’t remember the kids name, though ….

Ts I don’t think LG is coming to afc, Flamini is training with afc from last Monday and I think AW might sign him, Free and French.

  100. tsgh says:

Syg- I think in Gilbertos case it was a tactical one… if you remember Gilberto scored on his debut for us in the community shield during counter attack. Gilberto also scored important goals for us on the break but from what I see of LG20, even though he is left footed and therefore looks more silkier on the ball he is very basic in his game especially for a brazillian. He has the tactical awreness and experience which is useful but he gets too many yellow cards unlike the ‘invisible wall’.

In all honesty LG20 is very much like Gareth Barry… or maybe Edu Gaspar your passport buddy.lol

    WATH prefers Alaba ..

  101. tsgh says:

… and Gilberto played box to box or CAM for Panathinaikos most times… he wanted to be more attacking in his last few years with us whilst AW wanted to use him as a CB only in order for Flamini and CF to work out…

  102. tsgh says:

😀 😀 Syg at least our buys from ASEC have been decent bar your fave Gerv who came through Toumodi FC…

The Toure brothers and Drogba were very good. Tiote too…

  104. tsgh says:

Dna, i think flamini is finished; against RM he was so poor the AC fans wanted him gone asap…

WATH, I knew the word Alaba would get you out like a CIA agent sniffing key words from the luxury surroundings of RAF Menwith Hill… lol

  105. tsgh says:

As always even in 2003 we had a very thin squad… the likes of Hughes, Grimandi, Stepanovs,Aladiere,Pennent, Tavlaridis, and Rami Shabaan lurking around was enough to drive me nuts… lol

I still think Santos and Eboue would have been upgrade in the 2003/2004 squad… don’t forget Gervinho either… lol

  106. S2S says:

Wasn’t that LG who scored first goal against Juve last time?

Btw any Luiz kid on the block than buy him and lets sell him at profit. lol.

About Bolt, he’s a thunder bolt and it doesn’t look like any one is going to catch him anytime soon. I guess had Theo been sprinter, he’d have caught Bolt. lol. I used to follow him twitter but he’s too much a United fan to follow, so I stopped following him just as I stopped following Piers Morgan.

Btw, Gooner Mo Farah also won gold. He should teach Diaby, how to take care of yourself when you have chicken legs. lol.

  107. S2S says:

    Ts,

Wasn’t that you only who said that AW has never won any title without left footed CMF?

I guess, he read you that day and thats why a left footed DM.

Germany coach Joachim Low says Arsenal ‘s Lukas Podolski remains one of the most important players for
    the national side.
With Borussia Dortmund’s Marco Reus and Chelsea’s Andre Schurrle competing for the left attacking
position, critics have questioned whether the Gunners forward is still the best option for the starting XI.
One of them was Germany’s general manager Oliver Bierhoff, who stated in May that Podolski “had a year of
stagnation” in the national team, however, Low says the forward can still play a crucial role for his country.
Speaking ahead of Germany’s friendly with Paraguay in preparation for their World Cup qualifiers against
Austria and Faroe Islands in September, Low told Kicker: “Podolski is still a very important player, because
he strengthens the team with his abilities.
“With his dynamic style and his important goals, he has repeatedly showed his unpredictability can be a
    decisive factor in matches.
“Therefore, despite the competition from other players, Lukas is indispensable in his position at the moment.”
With 110 appearances for Germany, Podolski is ranked third in the list of most-capped players for the
country, trailing Lothar Matthaus and Miroslav Klose, who earned 150 and 127 caps during their careers.
But at just 28 years old, and his coach’s backing, Podolski could well make a few more appearances for

Luiz Gustavo keen on Arsenal switch
The Brazil international, who starred for his country in the recent Confederations Cup, is reported to be a target for the Gunners, who are believed to have tabled a €14 million offer for him.

Speaking in Basel prior to Brazil’s friendly against Switzerland, he said: “My contract with Bayern runs until 2015, but it is very important that I play first-team football to keep getting called up for the national team.

“I am in a delicate situation at Bayern, and this needs sorting out. I have personal and professional reasons to move. I have heard about the Arsenal interest. It’s a big club we’re talking about here, so of course I’d like to play for them.”

Having started only 16 games in the 2012-13 season after the arrival of Javi Martinez, Gustavo faces further competition for a place after the arrival of Thiago Alcantara from coach Pep Guardiola’s former club Barcelona.

While his understudy status did not matter much to Brazil coach Luis Felipe Scolari — he started every match in the Confederations Cup — he knows a lack of first-team appearances could jeopardise his place in the World Cup squad.

“You have to earn a Brazil call-up every week, and one can’t simply think past glories will guarantee a place,” he said.

“There are still a couple of weeks before the transfer window, but I need to keep working. He [Guardiola] has not spoken to me specifically about my situation but personally and professionally there are questions I need to address.”

Gustavo has also interested 2009 Bundesliga champions Wolfsburg, but indicated that he would be keener on a move to North London.

“Arsenal play a very attractive brand of football and are in the Champions League,” he added. “They also have a very clever manager in Arsene Wenger. Even when Bayern beat them in the last Champions League, you could see they are not pushovers.”

His Bayern colleague Dante, also called up for the Switzerland friendly, said he hoped the situation would soon be resolved. “Luiz is having a tough moment, and I hope things gets sorted out for him pretty soon,” he added. “He’s a friend but also a great player.”

  111. tsgh says:

I strongly believe LG wants assurance of a starting place specially this season due to the WC. Will he be prepared to fight for a starting berth with us?
I suspect he might go on loan to wolfsburg this season and then look for another move after the world cup…

Went out with just one wicket down, after a lovely dinner and 2 Peroni’s, came home to 8 wickets down and looking highly likely that we’ll go 3-0 up in the Ashes….

    Nice… 🙂

    Evening folks…

  113. agirlagunner says:

Happy birthday, CG! 🙂 🙂 So many people turning a year… erm younger. 😀

All those Pernoni’s, rico. I thought our club had driven you to drink. 😀

    Hiya, SYG. 🙂

  114. agirlagunner says:

Ha ha. 😀 All of us, I think. 😉 I’m less confident about your fiver. 🙁

KT, van Pursestrings is a mercenary and a hypocrite and I hope he does his ankle in at interlull.

  115. Canadian Gooner says:

    Good Evening all!

Sister AGAG – I only I was turning a year younger. I could do with dropping a few years, if not a decade or two.

  116. Canadian Gooner says:

A lot of feeds are reporting positive comments from Luiz Gustavo about Arsenal and a transfer to us. Fingers crossed, it is looking promising.

  117. tsgh says:

    Evening all,

Hi Agag, hope all is well?

I got some news for you Rico Sakho veut quitter Paris !

Mamadou Sakho had cast doubt on his future at PSG by informing PSg he wants out after Deschamp omitted him from the French squad for this weeks friendly.

  118. agirlagunner says:

Hey ya, ginge. 🙂 Officially my first day to be out of work. 😉

Maybe, Sakho will join us. 😉

  119. agirlagunner says:

It’s not exactly much fun being an AFC fan at the moment, rico. 🙁 No signings to show “intent”. 🙁 Or maybe, Kev is just busy shopping. 😉

  120. tsgh says:

I know you love Franco Africans with crazy haircuts… I confuse me though I thought Theo and Meade were your type. 😛

I am with you though, we will only get LG if possible. I doubt Sakho will be keen here as he will be behind Kosser and the BFG and he maybe behind Gibbs for the LB position…

  121. tsgh says:

Hows the job hunting going Agag? I am also looking and employers have the nerve to ask me to take a pay cut to work for them.lol

  122. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – Unfortunately all too true regards Kev. I think if loses his fiver in grand style (a few great signings) he’ll return to the fold like the prodigal son.

That biblical referfence should invoke the Reverend Kev’s attention.

  123. tsgh says:

Mr Kev will be back I am sure… a Suarez style signing will get the knights of this house back in effect…

  124. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – You’re probably right about Sakho, but he would be a great addition to the team. We’d have a handful of players in the backfield capable of playing multiple positions who could rotated in and out without looking makeshift.

  125. rico says:

    Night Ts..

Enjoy l lunch Cg, I suspect I’ll be gone to bed by the time you return so night to you too….

  126. stevepalmer1 says:

  127. agirlagunner says:

Not quite hunting yet, ginge. I’ll start next week. 🙂 The nerve of employers, I agree!

Good night, all. 🙂 Have a calorrific lunch, CG! 😛

rico, I really should take AW aside and give him shopping tips!!

  128. rico says:

Hi Sp, thanks – I won’t watch streams any more, they give my laptop a virus 🙁

    🙂 agag. Nighty to you….

  129. Lewis says:

We only have 18 first team players at the moment, the rest is supplemented by the kids, Ramsey and Walcott have knocks. Gulp!

We keep selling players but sign no-one, I am really really struggling to see the point in not having at least a couple of first team ready players purchased already and raring to go for the new season?!

I know people will say the window is still open etc, but I feel it’s a total farce that we haven’t strengthened yet.

    Morning all.

  130. Bradster says:

    Good morning,

I wonder why wenger hasn’t activated Kondogia’s release clause. He reminds me alot of Diaby and 8.5m is a bagain.

I see Bayern accepted Arsenal’s offer for Gustavo and he says he wants to come to Arsenal so that one should be a sure thing.

  131. Bradster says:

That is quite scary Lewis, there’s already rumours of Walcott injured in training, Ramsey out for Saturday and Cazorla unfit to start.

  132. tsgh says:

    Morning PEEPS,

Aulas talking about Gourchuff to France’s premier sports daily

“All that I know, if I understood correctly, is that he was ready to lower his salary to go to Arsenal, but that’s not the same thing.”

Gourchuff earns £350k a month… and he is a sick note of Diaby’s proportion.
