Ramsey, Lacazette and Guendouzi boss MNF.

Good morning.

Decent performance. 👍🏻

Three points.👍🏻

No booking, therefore no ban for Sokratis. 👍🏻

A clean sheet. 👍🏻

Overtaken Toots. 👍🏻

Ramsey injury. 👎🏻

Anthony Taylor. 👎🏻

A good night for Arsenal. I think we’ll all agree on that. Our opening goal was disallowed and rightly so I thought. By the letter of the law that is but the problem is, we don’t see other referees stick to the rules so to see such a soft foul given against Sokratis was hard to take. Taylor couldn’t have even seen the little shirt pull as his view was blocked. He guessed, he got lucky.

Ramsey did get the ball in the net again though and this one stood. A nice goal it was as well, the build up and the finish, albeit a little bit of good fortune too. Our second was good too. A strong header from Aubameyang to his mate who lobbed their keeper. Game over, although the Frenchman should have been celebrating our third. He’d put pressure on their keeper which caused him to push the ball into the net. Taylor ruled it out for handball by our striker. Again he guessed and got it wrong. 4-0 would have been more reflective of the game but 2-0 will do just nicely.

There’s a lot being said or written about Aaron Ramsey and him leaving for free in the summer. Admittedly, he’s hit a bit of a purple patch over the last few matches and on this kind of form, he’ll be missed. But I’m still far from convinced that his departure will hit us that badly because regardless of what he’s playing like now, he’s been inconsistent over a longer period of time. Financially it’s a bad move for the club, but long term, I’m still convinced letting him leave rather than giving him a massive pay rise is the right decision. It could be that his good form is simply down to the pressure being off of him, he’s relaxed as he knows his future is elsewhere now and he’s got little to prove to anyone, certainly anyone at Arsenal. The way he’s handled his situation though is something to be admired.

I thought Guendouzi was excellent last night. Lacazette too although for some reason, Mesut Ozil picked up the man of the match award. Odd decision by Smudger I thought. One player who definitely wouldn’t have been in contention for the award was Mustafi. One minute he’d doing something half decent, the next he’d play a dreadful pass which put a teammate in trouble. The funniest moment involving him was his sudden burst forward down the right. He could have crossed but opted for another pace or two before he did. Row z over the goal was where his cross ended up. Much to the amusement of Aubameyang.

Anyway, that’s one down, seven to go in our top four chase. Next it’s everton away at the weekend, a team who have hit a bit of form. I think it’ll be tough up there, certainly tougher than last nights match anyway. Hopefully we’ll have Xhaka back, Ramsey too and of course, captain Koscielny. No Torreira though, he’s banned again. The last one.

Have a good day guys..

Good morning Rico, yes an important three points and an improved goal difference, which just might be crucial come the end of the season.

I’m fully in agreement with you reference Ramsey, he’s wasn’t worth the demanded £10.4 million a year then and he isn’t worth it now, despite the few goals he’s scored his overall play still leaves me cold.

I watched the game live last night and this morning I watched the after-match talkfest, not a mention of two disallowed goals and a denied penalty appeal. Strange as normally the Sky pundits are only too willing to rip the referees decision making to bits. Still it is Arsenal we are talking about after all. 😉 The same applies to the report in the Telegraph, no mention of the disallowed goals or the penalty shout.

There is a good interview in the Telegraph this morning about Calum Chambers, worth a read.

  2. rico says:

Morning Cicero, it’s alwaŷs the case re decisions which go against us. I’ve read a few though which talk about the two disallowed goals. I didn’t think it was a penalty though.

  3. Adam says:

Morning Rico and all. The decision that denied us a first goal looked like 2 players holding each other but Sokratis held on a for a moment longer. If it should be disallowed for that then I doubt any corner or free kick into the box would ever result in a ‘legal’ goal as the holding, wrestling and tugging that goes on in just about every one of those situations would come under the heading of a foul. Curiously enough, when the incident was viewed from the ref’s point of view, it showed that he couldn’t see any of what happened anyway, so I guess Taylor either has x-ray vision or guessed.
    I’m going for the latter.

  4. Hobart says:

Morning all! Lovely to get back to it after the interlull.

Great game and very well deserved 3 points.

Personally I was torn between lacazette and Ozil for man of the match. Both produced so much.

I’d love Ramsey to stay. He’s not A great passer, dribbler, tackler or even has great technique. He does however run his nuts off and have the unerring ability to be in the right place at the right time.

Still not with those wages though

  5. potter says:

I think you are right about Taylor guessing , Guendouzi worries me with his first touch which goes too far away from him and allows for getting closed down . he needs to be more aware of where he is going before he recieves ( Look , recieve , pass ) . As for ramsey he is now playing with freedom , he no longer has to worry about being played all over the place and his talent is coming out again.

  6. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and fellow Gooners in residence.

A good summary of a great game Rico. Add that to the Tiny Tots evening up the the score on Sunday; getting their hopes up of stealing a point or three from their game with Liverfool. Only to have the rug pulled out from under them in the dieing minutes of the game. All in all, a very satisfying two days. Now, six days for our team to recover before their game away to the Toffees.Life is looking good for The Arsenal and their supporters.

However, I will be a temporary Wolves fan, for today only.

The only downside to yesterdays game was the injury to Ramsey and the ‘accident waiting to happen’ that is Shkodran Mustafi. Let’s hope that Koscielny is fit for Sunday and when Rob Holding returns he is back to his best.

  7. rico says:

    Morning Cg, thank you.

Agree re Guendouzi’s first touch Potter, sort that and he’ll be even better. He’s doing well though for his first season at a new club in a very different league.

My concern is us having so many away games whereas Toots are mostly at home. Hoping for a new stadium wobble. And a Wolves victory later of course..

  8. Goonster says:

Rico Ramsey ll be missed point blank period. This guy chases everything, intercepts, clears and scores important goals. Sorry ma’am but juve’s gain is our lost. Pretty sure allegri and his cohorts are rubbing their hands in glee. We are losing one the most complete ballers in world football. Watch our games against the Chavs and manure at the Emirates heck even Tottenham at Wembley. Rambo totally outplayed his contemporaries. He neutralized jorginho, pogba and eriksen. He ll be sorely missed.

  9. Canadian Gooner says:

I am disappointed to see a lot of criticism of Alex Iwobi from fan comments on yesterdays game. He is a Young Gun who shows promise and is gaining a lot of much needed experience this season. It is unfortunate that many fans are so unforgiving of young players.

  10. Goonster says:

Morning good people…buzzing like a bee in the first week of spring. Everyone last night stood and was counted. I have never been so proud of a youngster like I am with guendozi. We have a future world bearer on our hands people and guess what he actually loves the arsenal meaning he wont be leaving any time soon. Am super excited to be a gooner again after years of apathy. Hey how good was nacho monreal last night? Lacabra is soooooo underrated it hurts. Onwards and upwards….and one more thing FOYS😂😂😂😂😂 mind the fooking gap you twats. COYGS

  11. Rick says:

    Morning Rico and the House
Just a short visit ,Wife has a appointment at the Royal Brompton.

Very good post Rico following a very good performance.
Like Potter Guendouze worries me not only with his first touch with his r/foot
but I think his Left foot is very poor.
Massive game for the U18s this morning (K/o30 mins)
They are at home to the unbeaten Spuds.
If we win we will be 4 points above them and in avery strong position to win the South league for the first time in 9 years,
Come boys you can do it

  12. Jimmy B says:

Ramsey’s played really well since the contract was signed and further, he’s played for the team. Prior to that, much of his play seemed to be designed for a highlight reel and very impressive his reel would be. However, his needless flicks and backheels, meant us losing possession time and time again. Despite which, he’s been good servant for the club and deserves a round of applause, should he ever return with Juve.

  13. scottfromoz says:

How much we miss Ramsey will be determined by who we replace him with, or if we replace him, imo.
    It won’t be easy.
    Morning all.

  14. potter says:

Cicero you will remember Martin Peters and David Platt , Ramsey falls into that category . He is a midfield player best used behind a two player attack which gives him room to appear late into the penalty box . All the time that he was shoehorned into the team often wide right he was wasted. He never was a box to box player , he operates best between the half way line and the penalty box , finds room and gets in as an extra forward . Used like this he can relax and play his game . We will miss him and the replacement will have to hit the ground running or else the pressure will soon be on him .
Joni Mitchell sang Don’t it always seem to go That you don’t know what you’ve got’Till it’s gone.
Might well be the case with Ramsey.

  15. Cicero says:

Potter, mentioning Ramsey in the same breath as Martin Peters and David Platt is a bit of a stretch. Maybe his departure is the reason we signed Suarez.

  16. rico says:

I reckon so Cicero. With the midfielders we have, Suarez possibly gives us something different. If we ever get to see him play 90 mins in the league.. or Europa of course.

  17. andorrabyte says:

Afternoon all, and some interesting comments on Ramsey. I think Potter’s right, I like his style and he does put some work in but, his wage demands (Agent?) have outweighed his talent. Shame that.
Nice to see from fresh comments slipping in – your summary’s are like nectar to the honeybees, Rico.
Only saw the second half live last night ( my wife and I watching MotherFatherSon – excellent drama on BBC) so missed some of the earlier action.
Funny that, Goonster, you getting inspired again – when Lacazette lobbed in that second goal I almost rushed over to give him a hug. Pressure off and the team played well – 3 points, no goals against. Job done.

  18. rico says:

Thanks Andorra, Lacazette is one of my favourite players at the moment. Love his work ethic, his attitude and goals like last nights. He’s certainly grown under this regime imo.

  19. potter says:

, mentioning Ramsey in the same breath as Martin Peters and David Platt is a bit of a stretch..

More style than ability although I don’t think he is as bad as some say. When he joins the attack he is an effective weapon but if you restrict him by playing him wide or expecting him to cover his back four his effectiveness is reduced. Emery’s problem is that he has too many players for the same position that all want the free role behind Lacazette and Aubameyang . Ramsey going has eased his problem somewhat . He saves on wages and promotes Maitland Niles to his natural midfield role and with Mhikitatrian , Ozil , Guendoiuzi and Iwobi the position is already covered so he can buy a right back or centre back .

  20. allezkev says:

    Afternoon Gooners
    Afternoon Rico

Guendouzi, a year ago was playing Ligue 2, he is just 20, to me he’s a massive talent, has a great attitude, isn’t afraid to make those forward passes that open up defences, I’m not worried about him at all as he still has at least 2 more years of growth and development to his game to go through, he is going to be a major player for us going forward.

My biggest regret is that Emery wasn’t coaching Ramsey two years ago, because he would have cut out all the Hollywood nonsense then and maybe Ramsey would have got an Ozilesque contract 12 months ago?

He still has propensity to pick up soft tissue injuries when the games come thick and fast, but Emery has rotated both he and Ozil intelligently and we should benefit from that through April.

Sorry to see Aaron go but he’s not worth £400k pw to me, I’m confident that we’ll replace him.

Can’t understand the criticism of Iwobi, but then maybe I’m just dumb!

Everton is the key, win up there and we could go on a winning run, it’s all about confidence because technically Arsenal are better than all the 7 teams we have left to play and Napoli for that matter…

  21. Le Coq Monster says:

    Afternoon all and thanks Rico.

A little while back I thought we had no chnace of top 4, but as Greavsie always said……………….it`s a funny old game !

As much as I`m fed up with hearing about Spuds new stadium I`m fed up with listening about Brexit and wouldn`t it be a much better Parliament if all the MP`s had this attitude……………………

I`m in the Ramsey will be missed greatly camp…………………..it`s next door to the Ozil walks on water camp hahaha……………….

Sounds like Kev was at that 1932 final ! 😆

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

Just watched the highlights and no sign of Mustafinaldo`s run down the wing !…………………..damn !

  24. allezkev says:

Well done Cocker, I really enjoyed the Harry Clarke Tweet…

A good omen for the rest of the season.

This evening I am mostly supporting Wolverhampton Wanderers…

  25. Rick says:

    Hi Rico,
Its been a long tiring but good news day.
Its was made better when I found out how the boys had won.
2 down with 5 mins to go to the undefeated spuds then score 3 in 5 to win.
    All I can say is
They have done it again they have done it again the Spuds have done it again.

  26. Cicero says:

Solskjaer’s honeymoon period comes to a shuddering halt. Will he last the season out?

Jones and Smalling, what a pair of dummies. To think the media have linked them to Arsenal recently. They make Mustafi look a world beater by comparison. 😉

  27. Goonster says:

Evening Rico I ve been trying to get on here all day. I could see the comments section and all but couldn’t for the life of me figure out why I couldn’t post a comment?? Guess it’s a technical hitch or something. Anyway great game for the neutrals tonight. Wolves took manure to the cleaners😂😂😂 but I dread going there in a few weeks. God help us. Nuno is a tactical genius. Sunday’s game now is a no brainer now. We ve got to win at all costs.

  28. Canadian Gooner says:

    Good evening everyone.

Well Wolves, my team for a day, didn’t disappoint me. I only caught the last 15-20 minutes of the game and the highlights, but Wolves appeared worthy of their win.

Now for a quiet four days and and then a great game away at Wolves.

  29. Canadian Gooner says:

WOOPS! That should have been “…Now for a quiet four days and and then a great game away to the Toffees.”

  30. scottfromoz says:

As a one time leader of the Ramsey fan club, I said all along that when he just played a simple game, he was superb and guess what’s he’s doing now?
When he had that 18 months of brilliant football, nobody questioned his talent so do so now is strange, because it’s there and we’ve all seen it.
The use of that talent is what’s been strange by both himself and Wenger.
Let him do his thing-hit the penalty area late and he’s there to score.

  31. Canadian Gooner says:

Yes Scott, you were the biggest supporter from way back of Ramsey when many others were saying he wasn’t worthy of a spot on the team sheet. When given his chance, Ramsey proved them wrong.

Unfortunately, I see a similar reaction to Guendouzi, another young player with plenty of promise still learning his trade. As Kev said, he has done well for a player who played in France’s League 2 last season. Many more experienced and senior players have not adapted so quickly to a move to the Premier League. Given his chances and a little time, will he be one of our future golden boys?

  32. scottfromoz says:

    Hi CG,
I think our wild haired youngster will be a massive favourite of fans.
He gives his all, and should mature into one hell of a player so exciting times ahead for him.
The best thing is he’s getting so much game time, so will have every chance to grow and learn.
