Puma launch & Cech talks today. Arsenal win it for England….

Morning all.

That’s it then for the international fixtures, well apart from Copa America and the Women’s World Cup of course and boy did Arsenal, sorry, England finish well. Jack Wilshere scored a super opening goal but his second was even better. Stunning. Those were the first goals for his country apparently, if that’s correct, what a way to open his account. That’s six times out of the last seven performances for his country that Jack has been awarded man of the match…

Rooney and Sterling missed a hat full of goal scoring opportunities between them and it wasn’t until Theo Walcott came on to supply the perfect pass, Rooney finally managed to get a goal. A good result though and one which sees England unbeaten since their rather embarrassing World Cup exit last year.

Santi Cazorla completed 90 minutes in Spain’s European Championship qualifier win over Belarus in Borisov.

Enjoy your holiday Arsenal boys….

In the Copa America, David Ospina couldn’t prevent Colombia from losing their opening game against Venezuela. Apparently the goal he conceded was pretty awful.

Back to the club and today is a big day. Well it is for Puma and our new kit launch. Many pictures have been leaked to the public but today we’ll see for sure just what our players will look like in what will hopefully be a great season ahead.

Gossip:

Sky Sports report this morning that Petr Cech will meet with Chelsea officials today to discuss his desire to leave the club. Cech would like to join Arsenal, but the Premier League champions are reluctant to let him move there unless they receive a home-grown player as part of the deal.

PSG are also interested and Chelsea would prefer to sell to the French champions for a fee of around £11m but Cech would rather remain in London, where his family is settled.

Lukas Podolski is apparently wanted by Everton as well as Galatasary.

According to the Mail, we are hot favourites to sign Charlton defender Joe Gomez. He’s 18 years old and plays centre-back or right-back.

That’s about it so I’ll sign off for the day, have a good one all….

    Morning Andrew and all again..

Not me re Podolski, he doesn’t fit into the way we play imo… Smile or no smile.. 😉

  2. Brian Price says:

    Hi Rico
I agree about Jack – a great performance. I would have started with Theo and brought Townsend on later – I think he’s a bit like Peter Crouch, deadly as a sub but useless as a starter.
I’m devastated by the news that we’ve been knocked off the top of the league by AFC Bournemouth 🙁

    Brian

  3. Dinar says:

Hi again.Though I love podolski, but i think we should sell 3-4 players so that we can bring one or two high level players

  4. rico says:

Have we signed Cech yet….. 😉

Ha ha re Bournemouth Brian, it’ll be for one week only I’m sure…. Then all will return to normal next season…

    Good snippets Rico.
Jack’s goals and his goal tally reminds me a little of Cesc when he was about 20. He couldn’t score or even hit a barn door and admitted as much, he then found his touch and, for a midfielder scored more than his share. I think Jack may well develop the same way. He really only needs to add goals to his repertoire and he will become an undroppable!
Have to add, I wonder if Wenger was watching, where he played and how he moved around the pitch linking play and taking his chances? Will that inform the old boy where our youngish midfielder should play for his club side?
Last comparison! When he picks the ball up on the halfway line or thereabouts and then weaves forward he has the same tenacity, albeit with less power, as Yaya, (Toure not Sanogo)! !

    Good read..

King Poldi. Being friends with Dench was his downfall…lol
He couldn’t even fit in at Inter. great shame

Who saw Falcao’s ‘non-performance’ for his country?

  7. rico says:

    Thanks Wavy/Ts.

Jacks a different player since his last return to fitness – let’s hope he has a good restful summer and his form continues…

    Not me Ts.

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Vexed I missed the England game. The preceding baseball game went into extra innings, so they cancelled the broad cast of the Slovenia vs. England game. I had to wait until the evening to catch extended highlights in the Euro round-up show.

Oh well at least I get to watch the Canada vs. the Netherlands later today.

  9. Canadian Gooner says:

I see Aleksander Hleb snubed Cesc Fabregas in the tunnel before thw Belorus vs. France game, but he did stop to talk to two of his other former Barca team mates in Busquets and Pique. Poor Cesc didn’t know how to react. LOL

EXCLUSIVE: Arsenal and Real Madrid join Man City in race for Liverpool’s Raheem Sterling

    http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/584266/Arsenal-Real-Madrid-join-Man-City-in-race-for-Liverpool-Raheem-Sterling

As much as Arsene does/may like Raheem, I can’t see him spending that much money on a promising, but as yet unproven, player. It is a big big gamble, especially at 50 million quid. Citeh need a home grown player much more than we do and would/should be willing to spend that sort of silly money.

Raheem could be the best English striker since Alan Shearer or he could be another David Bentley. Is he worth the risk? Certainly not based upon his performance against Slovenia.

  11. Canadian Gooner says:

Ginge – Whether a buy or a loan, on this past year’s performances, i don’t think he will propel Chelski to the top of the BPL. He has been more a lead Zepplin (apologies to Jimie and the boys) than a rocket to the moon.

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

I’m off to catch a few zzzz’s before the Canada ladies kick off, So, it’s Good Night from me and Good Afternoon to all/most of you.

    Keep The Faith!

Sterling is going against the grain of the establishment (Liverpool and Yanited). I can see how/why the journos’ are bashing him.

Personally, I am really enjoying it. The fact that a young, just above average English star is doing to Liverpool what the media have enjoyed other players doing to us since 2000 is just beautiful…

    To the media, no player is bigger than the scousers. When its Liverpool or Yanited, any player who wants out is required to show loyalty; when it was Arsenal eg Cesc, Nasri etc, Arsenal lacked ambition and it was understandable for players to want to move because we only finish 4th;

    With Liverpool Sterling has to stay for a few more years to help the bin-dippers to finish 4th…;
There was me thinking finishing 4th (coveted) was a failure on our part.

  14. andrewh1313 says:

Rico, I meant like to see Pod stay in Premiership, not with us. I agree we have better options. But he seems a nice chap, sad to see his career decline so.

  15. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

    Has Petr CECHed in yet??

I still will not believe it until I see him with the NUMBER 1 on his back.

What daddy Ches have to say now??? his son will drop to the third in the pecking order.

what do you think mates??? will Ches be loaned or sold??

  16. Lee says:

Coach I’d loan him out, I still think there’s a quality keeper in there somewhere…
If Theo signs you think we’ll get another striker? Who’d you go for??

  17. tsgh says:

    Morning Rico and all…

Dev- if Cech is to arrive Scez will leave.

I am very surprised with AW’s purported interested in Cech…
Is he really that much better than what we have considering Cech’s age and his lack of playing time even when Chelsea had the EPL title wrapped up.

If we are a big club why are we continuously buying players who are not wanted by their clubs.
Spending £11m on Cech is a sideways step in my opinion. A fergie style shortermism imho…

Jose does not want Cech but he does not want Cech to join us for a small fee and so is ‘play-acting’ to push up the fee he gets so that he can us ethe revenue to strengthen Chelsea further.

I see another Gallas/Cashley Cole scenario considering Jose wants one of our English players.

  18. tsgh says:

…. and if Jose wants one of our English players I can bet its not going to be Young Chambers or CJ25; it will be Theo or Ox. potentially Ox with all the agent issue.

  19. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Morning Rico.

Lee, I would loan him out as well. Maybe ask Sunderland/NUFC/Bournemouth to take Ches/Jenks/Chambers to take all three on loan and play them. I do not want Chambers to go but if a new CB is bought in then Chambers would need to play.

There are many strikers being mentioned and certainly with ridiculous fees, but if I were to go for someone I would go for Aubemayang of Dortmund. He can play centrally and on the wing, plus he is very fast. Imagine an attack of Sanchez, Aubemayang, Theo. we would hit the chavs for six long before the poisoned one has even though of parking the bus. I would like us to get a goal in the first two minutes against the chavs and then see what will he do.

  20. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
I still say we have good enough keepers.
Also, IF Theo can stay fit, we have enough attacking options.
DM and a CB and possibly a winger who can bring out the best of Giroud is all we need, imo

  21. Hell Raising Devil says:

I would not even give the tea lady to Jose, let alone one of the players. Imo AW should make a take it or leave it offer for Cech. if the poison one plays hard ball AW should walk out.

But I disagree with you Ginge. He is better than what we have atm and although I rate Ospina I still feel that Cech will improve our back line and give us two or three great seasons…..like Lehmann did. He is a title winning keeper….something our two do not have.

  22. Lee says:

I still think we need a top striker not taking anything away from Giroud but we need better to win the PL…. imho.

  23. scottfromoz says:

Lee, if Theo stays fit and plays like he did late in the season, we are set I reckon.
    Play him central.
I questioned whether he had it in him, but he showed what he’s capable of.
He’s just go to do it consistently….therein lies the issue of whether he can or not.

  24. scottfromoz says:

11 million on Cech or 11 million towards a world class DM?
    I know what I’d prefer.
Stop the flow up the pitch and make the keepers job easier.

  25. tsgh says:

    I am with you Scott.

Cech 2 years ago was definitely better than what we had.

From the little I know about goalie’s watching TV, I think once goalkeepers get dropped for more than a few months they don’t recover. lol

Seaman, Cudicini, lehman,Mark Schwarzer come to mind.

I remember before Cech arrived at Chelsea 11 or so years back Cudicini was the best keeper. He was dropped by Jose and Cudicini never re-established himself.

Saying that if he helps us win the EPl title I will be happy.
I personally see this as another Debuchy or Chambers type signing. None were necessary at the time; Those 2 transfer fees plus £10m would have definitely allowed Morgan or even Vidal to join us

  26. tsgh says:

Interesting Rico; maybe Ospina hasn’t settled.

Dev I am with you on PEA of Dortmond. He had a relatively poor season though…

Syg and Lee might be reminded of Gervinho though.. :-0

  27. rico says:

I think Cech would be a super signing for all sorts of reasons.

He should bring his coach with him too, then maybe Szczesny would improve…

  28. Joe says:

Morning all, having studied the new home shirt I have decided I like it and I will be dropping hints now that fathers day and my birthday are coming up. 🙂
