Pires talks sense, Arsenal and Chelsea in battle for big summer signing & it’s getting closer…

Morning all.

We’re in for a great week. Summer has arrived as forecasters predict the hottest BH Monday ever recorded is on its way, three matches for The Arsenal within seven days at the end of which, it’s farewell, adiós, au revoir, thank you and goodbye. The domestic season will be over, Arsene Wenger’s twenty two year Arsenal career will be over too. It kind of saddens me that so many of us have waited for this day for so long but not too much, honest.

The anticipation, excitement, the unknown. That’s what awaits us and it’s great. Great for the fans, the players, the club and football. Arsenal have become stale, the team everyone wants to play, a team no longer feared by many if not most and a club which has been crying out for an injection of something new for years. Well that time is soon to be here.

Arsene Wenger ends his home career tomorrow against Sean Dyche and Burnley with the Englishman no doubt desperate to ensure the day doesn’t go well for his French counterpart. If ever there’s a side we’ve played with Lady Luck on our side, it’s been them.

01 Nov 2014 Arsenal v Burnley L 3-0 Premier League
11 Apr 2015 Burnley v Arsenal L 0-1 Premier League
30 Jan 2016 Arsenal v Burnley L 2-1 FA Cup
02 Oct 2016 Burnley v Arsenal L 0-1 Premier League
22 Jan 2017 Arsenal v Burnley L 2-1 Premier League
26 Nov 2017 Burnley v Arsenal L 0-1 Premier League
January 2017, an offside Koscielny was deemed to have been fouled in the box after which, Alexis Sanchez nicked all three points after converting the subsequent penalty. Xhaka had been sent off in that match, Wenger was too after protesting the decision too much.

Our last trip to Burnley back in November last year saw us come away with all three points, yet again thanks to a late penalty decision given our way. Alexis Sanchez was the match winner from the spot a few minutes into added time. A decision which left Sean Dyche raging with anger.

All in all, Burnley have been a kind opposition for us and with the fans in party mode tomorrow, the players wanting to give their manager a winning send off from The Emirates, we should expect a good atmosphere within the stadium matched with a fine performance on the pitch.

However, Sean Dyche will know that if this Arsenal team aren’t up for the game, they’ll be there for the taking. Especially as their egos will have been deflated after such a soft and toothless exit from the Europ League..

Rumours are the ticket touts are selling tickets to the game for £18,000. A hefty price to pay to wave Arsene Wenger goodbye. Someone wealthy obsessive Wenger fan might pay that price I guess. Me, I wouldn’t pay £18.00.

Rumours because I know we all love them:

  • Robert Pires has told Anthony Martial to make the move to Arsenal this summer- because Jose Mourinho has no confidence in him as a player. (The Sun)
  • Arsenal and Chelsea ware on red alert amid new claims that Leonardo Jardim is to leave Monaco. (The Sun)
  • Arsene Wenger’s successor will be handed a £200m war chest as Arsenal bid to re-establish themselves among the Premier League elite. (Daily Star)

Well, I’d love Martial, Jardim too and £200m sounds about right when it comes to rebuilding this squad. After all, that’s between two and four top top players by today’s prices. Anyway, all will become clearer as Spring moves into summer and before we know it, Jim White will be wearing his bright yellow tie…

Have a great BH weekend guys and don’t forget the Factor 30, it’s going to be hot hot hot….

It’s warmer than Cornwall here. Only thing that’s missing is the lapping of the sea as it gently rolls to shore!

Just to wish the ladies good luck and success in this afternoon’s LFA Cup Final. Will it be their 8th win this time round? Playing the chavs who have bought another good team!! I wonder what Wenger thinks about that?

Stoke relegated has made my day… ?

    Tots lost too..

Evening guys, what a beautiful day it’s been. Just like summer… lol

  9. Wavy says:

Ladies lost in their 16th cup final having won 14! Shame they were out moneyed by the chavs, so it would seem. Still they won the Continental cup a few weeks ago so they have something to polish up this year, unlike their male equivalents!

Yep, just like summer, today. Make the most of it chaps I bet it won’t last long, except perhaps in Cornwall!!!

The 26th May will be quite telling rico but I can see where your coming from, I always thought Klopp got lucky with Virgil Van Djik, who else would have found 75 million down the back of the couch lol

Morning all , welcome to love fest day, today is the day when the great Arsenal machine along with Sky , BT and the media despite years of criticism come together and go over the top in praise of our soon to be ex manager.
It has been time to go for some time and although in many ways we do owe the man so much , I just wish that he would slip off quietly and leave the stage open for the next man.
In my wildest dream last night I saw the pitch and saw as Arsene walked slowly from the pitch, down the tunnel and into the history books . I saw kroenke senior greet him at the edge of the pitch and together they waved to the crowd and departed as Josh and two men whose faces I could not see strode to the middle and bought the whole new era with them.
They spun round and it was Roberto Martinez and Thierry Henry both of whom will be free when their world cup with Belgium is over.
It’s an outside bet , but I just might be tempted to give old Paddy a call and risk a fiver.

  12. rico says:

    Morning Potter and all.

That paring wouldn’t surprise me at all as I said the other day. Josh apparently wants Henry so if he gets his way then Henry will also get his.
