Pick your best and worst signed by Arsene Wenger…

Morning all..

Quick one this afternoon as it’s one of those days..

It’s Black Friday, a day when shopaholics, if is there such a word, can grab a bargain.

One man we all know who loves a bargain is our very own Arsene Wenger. Over the years he’s signed a few crackers hasn’t he and many for not a vast amount of money.. Patrick Vieira, Mad Jens, Kolo Toure, Sol Campbell, Cesc Fabregas and today, Hector Bellerin and Francis Coquelin are proving to be a couple of great captures. Even Henry, Freddie and Sir Bobby didn’t cost that much, not really when you consider how good they were for us. There’s more of course, in fact far too many to mention.

On the flip side, he’s signed a few which have proved to be expensive flops. The goalkeeping department has been one of his worst areas for signing very average but thankfully, that’s finally been resolved having signed Petr Cech. Cheaply too imo.

There’s been Sebastien Squillaci, Amaury Bischoff, Pascal Cygan, Igors Stepanovs, Mikael Silvestre, Yaya Sanogo, Marouane Chamakh and Francis Jeffers to name just a few and one or two of those didn’t come cheap..

So, who is your best and worst signings under Arsene Wenger?

Have a good Friday guys and gals…..

Best Signing for me is Cesc Fabregas. He was pure talent, hit the ground running, handled the pressure at a young age and was a joy to watch.

I recall watching Henry goals and RvP’s his assists were top quality, and he was a teen! I know we hate the boys in blue here but…

Squillaci easily gets my worst signing.

  2. potter says:

Only 4 million difference between Arshavin and Gervinho .At least the Russian was useful when played in the right position.

  3. rico says:

Actually, didn’t Arshavin lift the team to top four after his January arrival…

Maybe I should have a re-think… Bischoff and Park it is… lol

  4. Dirty Turkey says:

Best – big Sol, just to upset the spuds
Worst – Park. A player so bad I don’t even remember his first name!

  5. allezkev says:

Didn’t know you could have more than one pick….

Ok, Henry, Pires, Ljungberg, Petit, Overmars, Anelka, Adebayor, Fabregas, Nasri, Campbell, Lauren, Gilberto, Edu, Ozil, Alexis, Koscielny, Cazorla, Ramsey.

Some of them won us trophies.
Some of them earned us big profits.
Not all left us on good terms.
But they were/are all good signings…

  6. Wavy says:

Henry and Tavarilidisif he was one of the Wenger boys? Or Jamshack after his initial 10 games, he was just extraordinarily, poor! Failing that Sylvestre

  7. allezkev says:

Toure was ok Rico, but I thought he was lucky to play in a great side…
I suppose as AW got him cheap and sold him to Man City ? for a nice profit gets him in….

  8. allezkev says:

    Now for the duffers:

Richard Wright, Shaaban, Tavlarudis, Squillaci, Silvestre, Song, Kaba Diarra, Inamoto, Park, Miyaichi, Lupoli, Merida, Stepanovs, the list is endless….
    Denilson, Warmuz, etc etc etc

  9. Marshall says:

If we are picking lots of options, Vierra, Sanchez and Cech are great characters and everyone’s favorite Henry.

Chamack, Park, Silvestre and Denilson were the bumms in an arsenal shirt.

  10. goonster says:

Wenger’s best signing for me was mesut ozil 😀 still pinch myself that he’s ours. What a player. Wenger’s worst signing has to be has to be shitvestre. I mean what was he thinking? I cringe whenever he gets on the ball. You just get the feeling he might do something catastrophic like passing the ball back to messi. Yikes I still have nightmares about that game. Afternoon good people 😀

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger defends club’s decision to take 14-minute flight to Norwich amid criticism from environmental groups….

  12. allezkev says:

‘When we made the decision there was some road work planned. Sometimes the access to Norwich is difficult. So we decided to fly. We do not fly a lot any more. We take a train or coach. This is an exception.’

    Said Wenger

  13. allezkev says:

Jennifer Parkhouse, of Norwich and Norfolk Friends of the Earth, deemed it ‘ironic’ that the match coincides with a Climate March in London. She said: ‘They appear to live in some kind of a bubble, entirely separate from the rest of us.’

Get a life you carrot crunching pillock…

  14. potter says:

I can assure you that traveling by train is a non runner too many works on the line with bus services interrupting the journey, driving may be possible but it can easily take 2 1/2 hours depending on the North circular and the M25 not to mention the Mildenhall roundabout and for anyone driving look out for the police camera near Wymondham . Getting to and from London by public transport is an expensive nightmare which is why we have to drive and leave at 10.30 for a 3 oclock kick off . But don’t expect Greenpeace and their acolytes to recognise this.

    Morning boys and girls.
Well, Sean and the missus head to New Zealand tomorrow for a football tournament.
Meanwhile, I stay home and work.
    Gotta love this situation lol.

  16. allezkev says:

    Morning All

    Morning Rico

Stop complaining Scott, just get on with your work, I’m sure the Missus will send you a postcard from Auckland or wherever. ?

  17. allezkev says:

I think he’ll alternate Flamini and Chambers, Rico…

Coquelin, if he goes the full 12 weeks, should be fit by the 2nd week in February, so I reckon Wenger will wait until the summer before he decides to bring in another def/mid..,
Then again by the summer, he might not bother at all if Chambers does ok…

I still think he’s gonna wait and see how the likes of Bielik, Kamara and Hayden go, as far as replacing Rosicky and Arteta….

Don’t be surprised if he doesn’t offer Flaminj another contract in the summer, if MF does ok up till the end of the season…

I’m not saying it’s the right way to go, I’m just saying what I think he’ll do…. ?

  18. rico says:

I reckon he’ll sign someone in Jan Kev, on loan though just to see us through….

Mind you, if Chambers goes in there and does really well, he’ll sign no-one… imo

  19. allezkev says:

The Media will be full of all its usual half-truths, agent speculation and damned lies this January, but I don’t expect a major signing of any description…

We’ll be linked, for example, with a Lekcester player or two, but they aren’t gonna sell in January, not with an outside chance of getting into the Champions, League and you wouldn’t blame them. This could be a historic season for Leicester…

So my expectations of a serious signing are quite low…

They might get someone like Windass, that kind of ‘under the radar’ buy Rico?

  20. rico says:

I can’t see many clubs selling good players either Kev, not half way through a season. I know money talks but that’s not Arsenal or Arsene is it?

Guess we might have a chance to get a player who is running down his contract but that’s about it imo.

And I understand that to a degree as imagine how angry we’d be if Arsenal sold one of our first team players in January….

    Dean Kev? 😉

  21. allezkev says:

Rico, the thing with Bielik is, I understand, to help him adjust to the hurly-burly of English football, it’s similar to how Monreal benefitted from that spell as a centre-back last season..

The adjustment thing is the reason why I think the Nolito rumour is a croc of shit.
    29 isn’t he?
He’ll be 30 before he’s adjusted to the EPL.
Yeah, AW is gonna do that kind of deal? ?

  22. allezkev says:

Walcott, Wilshere, Oxlade, they’ll all be fit soon and if they stay fit going into January, there’s another reason for Arsene not to spend Rico…

  23. Lee says:

Rico I won’t bother watching the fight and to be honest I lost interest in boxing a few years ago……I used to be massively into it.

  24. rico says:

Can only be good for Bielik Kev. Reckon he might turn out to be a good player.. Really disappointed Hayden hasn’t lit the Hull City side alight….

  25. allezkev says:

I agree Lee, and I reckon everyone on here would do the same…

If you had to sign one player, who could make the difference, what position would you choose?

I’d go for a striker, but don’t ask me who (Vardy – but we won’t get him)…

  26. rico says:

Agree here too, one real good player and the whole squad would get a lift..

My choice would be a DM as we’ve needed one regardless of the injury to Coquelin. An older, very wise player who Coq/Bielik will only learn from. Then we have Santi who can create/score more goals…

  27. allezkev says:

Me too Rico, it’s a missed opportunity for him…

I think that Hull are a good club and Steve Bruce is a good manager, but they have a lot of midfielders and Isaac can’t get a game..,

Coquelin had a similar experience whilst out on loan at Frieburg so it doesn’t have to be a disaster for him…

  28. rico says:

Wrong club then perhaps Kev.. But as you say, doesn’t mean the end if he’s patient and sensible. I really rate him…

Tough question re RvP, probably not, no….
