Partey Malarkey….

Afternoon guys.

I’m scraping the barrel for news relating to Arsenal. As we sit back and wait for the club to announce a new signing or four, they are giving us nothing. It’s like they don’t care that we are watching on with envy as Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd and Man City are adding to their squads. Ok, I jest about Utd, Liverpool too, so far anyway. Chelsea and City though, yep, they are already going big this summer. I guess both clubs will need to have a quick-fire sale of players though before the transfer window closes, especially City as it was not that long ago when he said he would quit City if he had a big squad. Yes, I’ll believe that when I see it too.

Thomas Partey to TV3 in Ghana:

“I think the first thing is where are you happy? Where do you feel at home? And then what is your next objective and what do you want to achieve next? There are a lot of things. You have to look now where your family will be happy. When you are young, you can just go anywhere. I can’t decide anything, it’s up to my agent and the club. Me, I just want to enjoy football.”

His comments are all wrong in my opinion. If he wants to stay at Arsenal and there is a contract on the table, he doesn’t need his agent to say it is ok to sign it, just sign it! He says he just wants to play football, fine, but he should be saying he wants to play football for Arsenal. The club who has stood by him through all his injuries whilst paying him handsomely for doing bugger all.

Mikel Arteta has said publicly that he wants the midfielder to stay at the club so where’s the problem? Money no doubt, football usually comes back to money, especially when a player is out of contract and getting on a bit in footballing terms.

Ideally, Partey will stay but I don’t think the club should beg him to do so or increase his wages. His contract expires at the end of this month so by now, he and Arsenal should know what his plans are.

England Under 21’s kick off their European Championship challenge tonight with a fixture against the Czech Republic. Channel 4 are showing this one live which is good because Ethan Nwaneri will be in action. I wouldn’t bet against the under 21’s matches being far more entertaining than Tuchel’s senior team.

Catch up later.

    Morning Rico and all.
I think Party is waiting to see who we sign and then he make his decision.

According to some reports we will sign Maratin Zubimendi but not untill july 1st due to financial reasons.

I don’t think it’s comes down to the club not careing about the fans it’s more that they don’t have the confidence to get deals done quickly.

The telling phrase for me was ” I can’t decide anything, it’s up to my agent and the club. ” which suggests to me that his willingness to stay is purely for money. If his agent can strike the right deal with Berta then he will stay if not he will go . He is leaving it up to his agent and he will not care either way. That’s how I would read it if I were doing the negotiations.

Partey is a footballer, nobody ever said he is a rocket scientist, he probably relies on his agent for all sorts of things, in particular his financial well-being and certainly his advice as to whether he should stay at Arsenal or move on to a new club.

It is more than likely that we will sign a top class midfielder thus pushing Partey down the pecking order. Would he be happy to sit on the bench checking his bank balance on his i phone, or playing regularly elsewhere?

Contracts in general run until 30th June so don’t expect any announcement before that date.

Keep up the good work Rico, we all appreciate it.

    Thanks Cicero.

I get that re contracts but surely he knows if he’s staying or going. Tierney has already gone, Jorginho too…

I was seriously impressed by Alexander Arnold who spoke to the press in fluent Spanish.. He’s clearly been having a lot of lessons…

AC Milan are exploring the conditions of a potential deal for Arsenal left-back Oleksandr Zinchenko, according to Sky in Italy.

The 28-year-old has one year left on his deal at Arsenal and Sky in Italy are reporting that his wages are a potential obstacle for Milan.

The Italian club are looking for a potential replacement for Theo Hernandez with Atletico Madrid trying to sign the France international.

Hi All and Rico. I am currently in Ghana. I heard the Partey interview on radio. They started off the interview with the possibility of Arsenal signing Zubimendi and will that effect him. He said, “First of all, I am an Arsenal fan, so I will be happy.” He goes on to say something to this affect, as a player I can’t worry about that or make my decision based on that. Then all the other stuff followed. It’s interesting those parts were left off.

Not uncommon really for reports to be selective i suppose to encourage a bias . Milan no doubt wanting us to lower our price to subsidise the wages . Selling abroad is always difficult because the Premier is seen as a washed with money and it’s the first step in the negotiations . The prem clubs pay high to attract players but when it comes to letting them go it’s a different story.

  9. rico says:

I suppose with a year left on his contract, Arsenal have to consider any offer for Zinchenko if they want to sell him. Personally, if we’re in need of numbers, there’s a role for him in the team, just not at left back.

    Hi Amigos.

Milan are out of the CL, they might be out of Europe altogether, so they aren’t going to offer us what Zinchenko is worth, I’d like to keep him, offer him an extension on his contract, I’m sure he’d be happy to be part of the squad. I don’t see any value in selling him on the cheap and why should we when Sporting and Leipzig are trying to rinse us?

We’ve lost Jorginho and Tierney, we need to replace Sterling and Neto on top of the business usually spoken about, I see no point in losing players we may not be able to replace or even have the finance to do so…

Apparently there was a new coach added to the group last season, I don’t know when, but his remit was improving finishing (don’t laugh), stay with me here, I know it was only a very small sample size but I thought Jesus was flying before he got injured, so don’t rule him out of the equation next season.

  12. LE GALL says:

    Yep, Cicero.
If Ethan’s not injured, it’s an insult, and meant to be so.
MacAtee? Hutchinson? Rowe? Please gimme a break!
I hope our boy will take that kind of humiliation extremely personally …

  13. potter says:

As much as I can see the point of keeping him I cant see another resurrection of Jesus as a goal scoring forward . His record at City was not prolific but good ,160 games and 58 goals around 1 in 3 and with us it’s 18 in 70 matches around 1 in 4 .
A useful contribution but not the full answer and he will not get a full pre-season either.
Trouble is that along with Zinchenko his wages are taking quite a bit out of the pot for a couple of squad players. £ 22 million a year between the two of them .
Would we get as much for far less from Lewis Skelly , Nwaneri and possibly Downham .? would whatever fee we get for them and their wages enable them to be replaced with more than two players to boost numbers . While were are pondering You could add Tomiyaso to the list as well.

  14. rico says:

It’s tricky when it comes to players like Zinchenko because we need experienced players for the domestic cups to go with a few of the younger players, assuming Arteta will rotate for them, especially the league cup – draw depending of course.

  15. rico says:

Brighton have signed 18-year-old forward Charalampos Kostoulas for £29.78m (35m euros) from Greek side Olympiakos.

The teenager has signed a five-year contract that will start on 1 July.

The cost of younger players is getting silly imo.

  16. Cicero says:

Mmm, an example of the law of unintended consequences. 😉

    Good morning to you Rico.

Take care today….Friday the Thirteenth. 😕

  17. allezkev says:

    Morning Rico n company.

Thomas Frank has a pretty good squad to work with and as he’s used to working on a small budget he seems to be perfect for them.

    I hope it’s disastrous for him…
