Oxlade-Chamberlain first out? Arsene Wenger confirms summer transfer plans…

Morning all.

Arsene Wenger has been talking about his summer plans. Finish third or higher is his priority because he wants Champions League football secured to avoid any chance of the play off, especially as many players could be missing because of the Euros. Then he can plan for next season.

Top four is not Champions League. Top three, yes. That’s why it is important. What has changed is just because we want to play against the top teams and we want to be in the Champions League.

What has changed over the years is that the impact of the finances in the CL is not as big any more. For a period in the past the money was vital for us. But the sporting impact, the planning of the next season, of course it changes completely.

There’s lots of stuff on the back pages of many newspapers about who is expected to leave and who might be arriving and regardless of whether the club finish third, fourth or even fifth, one would like to think that the club already has it’s transfer plans in place and are already being proactive.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is rumoured to be on his way out at the end of the season, the Mirror suggest that it’s been confirmed that the Englishman is up for sale and they even go as far to suggest he’s already been offered to West Ham. Southampton want him back so there’s bound to be a lot of interest in him if the reports are true. I’d be surprised if they were.

One exciting rumour surrounds Granit Xhaka who has apparently agreed personal terms ahead of a move to Arsenal and all that’s left to agree on is the price. Of course I don’t believe this to be 100% true but would his capture excite Arsenal fans? I think so and he’s one to watch at the Euros. Switzerland are in Group A and will be up against France, Albania and Romania.

Another one rumoured to be on Arsene Wenger’s long list of summer targets is Oliver Burke, a 19 year Scotsman who plays for Nottingham Forest. According to The Sun, Arsenal’s chief scout Steve Rowley has been monitoring the progress of Burke ahead of a summer move. Perhaps he’ll replace the Ox, or even Walcott…..

But then if we are to believe The Metro, there’s another player set to replace our two Englishman as they report Arsene Wenger has told friends Riyad Mahrez is his top priority in the summer transfer window..

In an ideal world, Arsenal would have a new manager in the summer and it would be him spending the clubs fortunes but that’s looking less and less likely and should 3rd place or better be secured, Arsene Wenger will have done his job once again in Kroenke and the boards eyes.

With a few out of contract and others who will want to move on, Arsene Wenger will have to spend money regardless of what we all think because if he doesn’t, by the time he leaves, we could be even further away from the top of the league table.

And who knows, if he gets the right players in the summer, including one or two who have leadership qualities, we might even improve….

Especially if he get’s a goalscorer and sorts the defence out….

Ok, that’s me trying to be positive on this sunny Saturday morning…..

    I missed this one:

Arsenal are in ‘advanced talks’ to complete the cut-price signing of FC Lorient defender Raphael Guerreiro.

    🙂

  2. Iceman says:

Please, please, please, get rid of ‘project Theo’ and all of the comfy wasters at the club. As for signings – when do Primark have their sale?

    Morning All
Do we think that its a matter of which players
    come or go?
My opinion is can we manage/coach a team to
know when to twist or stick
Under wenger the last 10 seasons without a true
leader has seen us hanging around the top four
Great for the money men and great for our rivels
no threat to the top two.
    Our Academys teach ball retention
wenger wants our teams to play the same way
throughout the club……..its for all to see

  4. rico says:

In some ways yes, others no Fred. A few top players with a bit of drive and attitude could do a lot more on the pitch. Our lot seem a bit soft centred apart from an odd one or two and I know a lot of that is probably down to the manager etc, but back in the good old days, players like Adams, Vieira etc didn’t shirk their responsibilities….

  5. frednerk says:

We have Cech Won most stuff
We have Three world cup winners
    We have Seven england internationals
We have the best player from Chile
    We have ttree French Internationals
We have a spanish international leftback
We have a spanish rightback picked for team of the year
We have the second best player from Eygpt
    We have Columbias No1 Keeper
    We have a Brazilian international
    We have a Welsh international.

    Wenger/coaching/Stan the Syrup/Chips/Ivan
would a couple more signings really work

We all love/loved Wenger..But every time I look
at the problem I can only see one thing

  6. Lee says:

Wenger is the glaring problem Fred and needs to be replaced, I don’t want him spending any of the “war chest”…….

  7. Micko says:

FA cup weekend rico, still shaking my head !

Arsene couldn’t identify a trophy in a line up these days if his life depended on it !

If a big striker does come in this summer I think it will be at the expense of Feo myself, he’s lucky if he gets a 10 minute run out let alone a place on the bench.

  8. Lee says:

Who will pay the £140k pw for him though Micko?

Unless Stevie Wonder is managing a football team somewhere?

  9. frednerk says:

The problem we all seem have when talking
about The Arsenal now adays is not about the team
    ..is it
The days after games when debating who had a
good game are gone..its all about
You Know Who.(sorry feeling a bandwagon moment)

  10. Micko says:

Arsene’s a victim of his own success Lee, give the bloke a break, my sides are still killing me after that one !

  11. Marshall says:

Hi all. We have Seven England internationals? We should take a recount on that lol 😉 (only JW Welbz are worthy a spot and Gibbs as back up).

I’d rather Theo walked out first, If Ox leaves then good as long as the Mahrez rumor is true. Am surprised Wenger has friends and they talk about transfers!!

  12. obi says:

Lee, Stevie Wonder at least he’s alive. Try Ray Charles ….blind and dead. 140k pw on what planet?

  13. scottfromoz says:

Micko, you keep poking away like a juvenile.
How about you pull your smug head in and find another target?
In the spirit of respect, and all…..that’s the funniest line of the year.
I mean, you could’ve just stated you’d made shit up, been called on it and be done with it instead of taking the soft exit lol

  14. allezkev says:

ManCity 4-0 puts the pressure back on…

Sunderland are scrapping for their lives and Fat Sam will prepare a very physical in your face, kick you up in the air welcome for us…

If we don’t dig in, take a pragmatic approach and shelve the fancy, tippy-tappy stuff, we’ll suffer big time…

This game could be the key to finishing 3rd or 4th or even 5th…

  15. rico says:

Last time of telling Scott, give it up or you’re be in the cooler.

    Jeeze, it’s like a school playground sometimes…

    Evening guys…

  16. Micko says:

Too late rico, I was bursting !

Man U 1 nil up, Rooney’s never won the FA Cup, new one on me.

Laters, I’m off to to play.

  17. Rick says:

    Evening All

In a warm up for tomorrows game our U1`8’s won 4-1 at Sunderland.
The home side say they dominated the game and we scored our goals in breakaways ie we parked the bus.
Nketiah (2) Malan and Nelson scored the goals and Nketiah is in good position to be League top scorer for the season
With Mavididi also in the same position for the U21’s we have 2 very promising C/F to keep our eyes on

  18. scottfromoz says:

Lee, I dont remember you telling this guy to cool it.
Rico, warn me but here’s an idea, warn the bloke that’s firing off the first shots on a daily basis.
I’ve looked back, and realised the man never actually offers anything up other than sarcastic replies to the comments of others.
    Sensational contributions lol

  19. allezkev says:

Cheers Fred, I’ll look forward to it mate…

Rick, N’tikiah has, what was it, 21 goals this season, that’s a very good return for his first full season in the U18’s.
Have you seen him on TV or live…
I understand he’s small but very quick and slippery…

    Mick likes ’em slippery…

    Night All
    Night Scott, chill out Digger…

    And Night Mick…

    Peace….

  20. malaga gooner says:

    morning Rico and the house

i think the boys will turn on the style today, i’m going for a 0-3 win

    what time is kick off

  21. Adam says:

Rico. Looks like it. He really hasn’t been good enough for a long, long time. Occasional flashes of class but it’s time to go.

  22. Adam says:

It will be interesting to see, if Wenger stays, just what he will do in the market. Big decisions to be made throughout the team. CB, CM, striker etc.

  23. rico says:

    Morning Mg. 2.05 I think..

I’d have to agree Adam, shame really as there’s a player in him but he’s just too lazy…

  24. rico says:

And a second keeper I guess as I doubt Ospina will hang around, same with right back, in fact quite a few big decisions to make as you say…
