Morning all.
I guess nearly everything written in the newspapers these days needs to be taken with a pinch of salt, even the so called “quotes.” I’ve read or listened to Arsene Wenger’s interviews in the past and Unai Emery’s in the present and often a so called full transcript of those interviews have often differed. Their words simply twisted, or perhaps a genuine mistake has been made. Errmm.
Anyway, The Mirror has published a few words from ex Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan, the source of the interview being Post Box.
I’ve got this image in my mind of Unai Emery, thinking that there is something about him. But maybe there just isn’t?
Because I have got Sevilla in my mind and the Europa League and what he has done there, but maybe there just isn’t. I think there’s a plan, but when I see transactions like Luiz I think ‘no, there is not a plan’.”
On Luiz, he added:
“The press were going ‘Who has had the best transfer window? Maybe Arsenal have’.
Anybody with half a brain, with respect, looks at David Luiz and says ‘Why do you want that in your dressing room, as a centre-half, when you’ve got a defensive unit that’s not a unit?’
He’s a flat-track bully at best, we saw him fall apart for Brazil, he’s lightweight and a show pony.”
This is from a bloke who bought the club he’s allegedly supported since he was a kid having been born close by, the same bloke who took that club into deep financial problems which ended up with Palace going into administration in 2010. No great surprise that as Palace sorted their long term future out, Jordan was a thing of the past. Lord knows how many managers he got through during his time at the club but I bet he’d have loved to have had Unai Emery coaching his team back then. Although who needs someone like Emery when Warnock, Coppell, Bruce etc are available eh?
Or a David Luiz in his defence perhaps or midfield because there’s little doubting he’s better now at his ripe old age than many of the central one of his teams might have had. His comments are made even more bizarre because Luiz cost the club just £8 million and in my opinion, once Rob Holding returns, he won’t be an automatic choice at the heart of our defence, or midfield for that matter.
Our future is being looked after which is why the likes of Saliba and Martinelli were signed and our younger players are now coming to the fore.
As for Emery and his plan, well maybe if he’d thought about that a bit more during his time at Crystal Palace, he might still be there.
Nowt as queer as folk eh…..
Please just help us as Arsenal fans, dont put Guinduizi on our starting line up. pliz start laca, Auba and pepe. I was frusrtated at the Liverpool game.
Thank you for a great and well thought through blog
Thanks John80.
People like Jordan irk me because they’ve been there and mucked it up. Neville is the same, he’s the voice of Sky Sports football yet when he coached, he failed big time.
Thanks Rico, afternoon all,
the media is full of people like that, football failures, or more and more, ex players who won’t dare to even try management themselves.
At least Simon Jordan was a big success in business.
I hope Merson hasn’t jinxed us, he’s predicted we will tear Spurs apart on Sunday.
I see Eddie scored again last night.
Ha ha, now he’s got Mourinho beside him at Sky. Perhaps Simon Jordan could join them and reform the Three Stooges.
Simon Jordan self opinionated braggart that employed managers then did the job himself and then blamed everyone but himself
Hi Rico.
Tbh I never bother with those type of comments. 99% of the time they are totally wrong and 1% of the time they might turn out right because of statistics. If you say stuff enough one day it might be right.. On another subject I’m sad to see Monreal’s demise. He had some great times for the club.
Morning all.
Simon who???
🙂
Morning all,
A home game against Forest in the League Cup (play the kids) Europa League draw tomorrow – I’d like Celtic or Rangers in our group,if they qualify.
Interesting who,if any move on in next few days.IfMonreal goes it will be to reduce the wage bill, understandable because with a nominal fee, Arsenal can save 4-5m over the next year.Mind you it does mean playing Kolasinac until Tierney is ready. An alternative would be switching AMN to left back, and playing Chambers at right back (or even Mustafi if we can’t shift him)
I am not sure that switching AMN to the left is fair on him. For a start he is not a right back and throwing him under the bus on the left probably wont do either him or the team any good.
It will have to be Kolasinac until Tierney gets to fight for the place . I would rather see Luiz move forward with Torreira and bring in Chambers at the back and let Ceballos , Lacazette , Aubameyang and Pepe move around in front.
That sounds good to me.Luiz in midfield makes sense,I only said AMN to left back because we’ve done it before.
Mind you I seem to remember Xhaka being used as an emergency left back !
Please not that.
Morning all.
I have to agree re switching AMN, a big no no for me too.
Medley seems to be the one Emery uses to fill in, or at least has done on a couple of occasions. Apparently Tierney could be back ahead of schedule.
Holding is expected back after the international break too.
Both Holding and Tierney should have to work their way into the team . They should not be parachuted into it until both they and the teams balance is ready. Accepting that we will be using a back 4 to introduce half of the players at the same time will be a risky gamble.
Great news about Tierney and Holding.
Morning All
After Tottenham we have 3 or 4 manageable games before we visit Old Trafford at the end of September, so no need to rush back anyone. I reckon that Tierney, Bellerin and Mavropanos will spend most of next month doing a preseason. Holding should be available after the Intersnooze, he can come off of the bench or start in the cups.
Monreal looks set to play in the NLD before returning to Spain.
Still no positive results in moving on Mustafi or Elneny, I had to laugh at Mustafi’s agent (father) who said that Arsenal should reduce their asking fee to help facilitate the transfer, but of course at the same time he made no mention about the possibility of him reducing his sons wage demands and certainly no reduction in the agent fee…
Holding is going through that very process by playing for the under 23s and imo, should go straight back into the first team as long as he’s 100% fit.
Tierney has a battle with Kolasinac though now he’s back and ready to play after that awful incident.
Don’t worry about Utd Kev, not now they’re letting Smalling and Alexis leave… 😝
Morning Rico, just re read the post and yes we do have people who do seem to have a plan, as Raul said and it’s about the young players and probably our next manager because I’ve always seen Emery as a short term fix, coming in to shake things up, moving on the wasters and then giving way to another coach who has a vision like Klopp and Guardiola.
Nagelsman has just moved from Hoffenheim to RB Leipzig, he’ll be a prime candidate in a couple of years…
Yeah, Alexis, what a total balls up, they’ll be paying most of his wages while he plays for Inter.
Smalling going, where to?
Roma, i think it is Kev, on loan.
Morning all.
Morning Kev. Spooky as me too re Emery. I think we’ll have a younger or Arsenal guy in next and my money is on either Freddie or Vieira…
Sky suggest Roma with Alexis joining up with Lukaku again.
That deal must be up there with some of the worst ever swap deals in footballing history.
Afternoon Rico. Yes, I can’t imagine that Mourinho’s transfer record has done much for his reputation. I see he’s selling himself on TV now as Mister Nice Guy. To me he will always be Mr R. Sole.
Afternoon Adam. I can’t bear to listen to him…

Adam,
😁😁😁
Thanks for the injuries update, Rico.
Can’t understand what these guys are doing with their groins?
Is that where the word ‘tackle’ comes from?
Someone should tell them that tackling with their tackle will just give them a groin problem.
I wonder who those tosses at UEFA have in store for us in the UEFA playing the final miles away and bollocks to the fans Cup?
Where is the final?
Knowing UEFA, probably somewhere in the South Pole
Poland. Nice. I love Sauerkraut…
If love sauerkraut, Rico, then you need to head for Germany.
The Polish version is kiszona kapusta — same pickled cabbage — different name. 😳
Not according a Polish builder near me RA. Lol
The one I buy is lovely but then I haven’t tried one from Germany.. yet.
New post up now
