One transfer confirmed, could this mean our own transfer window is about to open?

Yesterday Bolton confirmed the signing of David Wheater, a big strong defender that will sure up their defence – however, this could also mean that Owen Coyle is ready to listen to offers for his other fine centre half, Gary Cahill. Yes I know, he maintains that Wheater is an addition and hasn’t been bought to make way for Cahill’s exit but I say, Poppycock. Coyle knows that there are several clubs interested in Cahill and what he has done is smart – he’s got his replacement in before he starts listening to any offers, I’m sure they’ll be plenty before the end of the month.

We all know Carlos Vela is leaving us on loan until the end of the season and despite Arsene Wenger suggesting that many clubs are after his services, nothing has been sorted out just yet. Well, maybe that is all about to change.

If I were Wenger, I’d offer Carlos Vela on loan, Denilson for keeps and we get Gary Cahill for a few million pounds, suit you?

If Coyle doesn’t want a midfielder, then let’s offer him Nikki B for keeps and Vela on loan for the defender that many Arsenal fans want.

Either would suit me, I’m sure it would you too, wouldn’t it?

The world of football has gone crazy, Darren Bent has moved for £18 Million while Adebayor, who we sold to Manchester city for £25 Million is up for sale now for just £9 Million! How can any club either pay so much for Darren Bent? I’m not suggesting he’s a bad player but he’s not up there with the names you would pick first if you needed a potent centre forward is he?

On the other end of the scale, how can Manchester City just write off £16 Million by selling Adebayor for less than half of the amount they paid us? It’s a crazy crazy world in football these days and I’m sure glad we don’t operate in such a fashion.

There are great players out there who are valued at extortionate prices but they are Messi, Kaka, Iniesta, Ronaldo, Fabregas, Torres, Nasri, van Persie, Sagna, Almunia (just checking you are actually reading 😉 ) etc etc – but they are valued as such because they are class, pure class…

But £18 Million for Darren Bent ? £20 Million for Gary Cahill – that is just crazy, but it’s also because they are English!

We don’t need Bent but we need Cahill, come on Arsene, do that deal and make most of us fans happy, very happy!

Steve Bould’s boys got beat last night, with virtually the last kick of the match, Chelsea nabbed a winner. Another downside, other than the result was a nasty injured suffered by Arsenal defender, Nico Yennaris.

Other titbits, Manchester City are reported to be in for Gregory van der Wiel, Romelu Lukaku, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and any other player that’s available for sale – while we are reported to be after the next ‘Nikki Bendtner’ – sadly for us, he was born in December 2010 🙂

Have a good day all…..

  1. Rupe says:

Yes, Bent is up there with the names you would pick first if you needed a potent centre forward. I don’t understand why people are doubting it. His goalscoring record is staggering, especially when you consider who he’s been playing for. Give him the service he’d get at a big club and he could become something really special.

All that surprises me is that only Villa were in for him. I’d have had him for Arsenal for 18million, although probably not a Wenger type of player. Liverpool really need someone like him.

Anyway, agree about Cahill. We’ll be crossing our fingers but not holding our breath…

  2. rico says:

Morning Rupe – he wouldn’t be first on my list if i’m honest but i’m not suggesting he’s rubbish either – mind you, you are right, at this moment i’d rather him than our so called big number 52….

  3. Andrew says:

    yep
Squid is back by the Huddersfield game
and Vermaelen will be fit by the Everton and back in action for the Fa cup 5th round which means if our CBs can push on and get through the next two games then we are in a great position by the end of the month

A signing will take the risk out of it but it wont be the end of the world if we dont buy anyone

  4. AnonymousGun says:

I think the Sunderland management plays FM11. Darren Bent is crazy there in the 1st season. 25+ goals by January 11(yes, this January, 4 months into the game)

    :p

  5. rico says:

Andrew, i don’t think we ca afford to take that risk, TV’s return cannot be guaranteed right now, we are in all four comps and everyone needs a break sometimes – i hope wenger sticks to his word and gets a CH, not honestly expecting it to be Chaill though, more likely to be another Squlli kind of player…

  6. Andrew says:

I agree but I know wenger, you know wenger
he wont look at it that way they way he will look at it IS
he will have 4 available Cbs but end of next month + Song and Miquel as cover
and he’s not wrong nobody will come to arsenal to not even sit on the bench

  7. rico says:

You are right about the way wenger thinks but what happens if he moves song into defence? Song is one of our better players right now and to move him i think would unsettle the whole balance of our midfield…

Denilson is not anywhere near as good as song, probably never will be and the only other option in there is Frimpong and he’s out for a while yet…

This is our best season in a while and surely wenegr can see that…

  8. Rupe says:

    Samba would be good too.

I really hope Vermy is back soon but his comeback has been delayed so many times now, how can we be sure and why should we risk it?

Looking forward we have him and Djourou who will be the business, Koscielny who is improving. That’s it.

Squillaci was a good buy as an experienced stop-gap but not a long-term solution. Miquel, well let’s hope so but he’ll probably have to go out on loan next season to get games under his belt.

This is not enough centrebacks. Especially given that the first 2 choices Vermy and Djourou have worrying injury records.

So we really could do with another centre-back, even if by some miracle Vermy and Squillaci are back on schedule.

  9. rico says:

Rupe, but Wenger has said JD cannot play every game due to his own fitness, if he gets injured, well, i dread to think… he and kos are looking pretty good…

I honestly don’t think we will see TV this season…

  10. Erick says:

I would got for Samba or Cahill no matter what the situation is for TV then let Squillaci go at the end of the season Morning Folks

  11. Steve Palmer says:

    MORNING ALL’
i recon we have more chance of getting Viera.
With the impending recovery of Vermin Squeaky Diarby Fringpong,And Ramsey back very soon, i would have thought perhaps a striker to help RVP and Chammy

  12. Rupe says:

Agreed Rico that’s what I’m saying: we need cover.

But I don’t think Wenger’s saying it’s a long-term thing not wanting to play JD every game; it’s only because he’s not long returned from injury. Actually I was amazed that he played on Wednesday given how much demand has been put on him so soon after his return to fitness. This more than anything demonstrates the importance Wenger is now putting on the cups. I wouldn’t be surprised if Miquel played against Wigan.

  13. rico says:

Morning Steve, there’s a rumour Paddy could be heading our way in the summer to be wengers number two…. he’s hanging up his playing boots at the end of the season…

  14. rico says:

Rupe, sorry – we are agreeing and i’m going on 😉

Agree too that we should buy a CH regardless of TV’s state of progress – i was amazed JD played too, maybe his fitness is less of a concern now?

He played well against Leeds, when he doesn’t let the ball bounce, he clears most things his way in the air, something we having been lacking

  15. Erick says:

Rico ha ha ha for someone who does not win alot yipee Morning Steve I asked you what you think about the Barca game?

  16. rico says:

He’s said he’s finishing Steve and not just a City, if he has another season in him then yes, i’d rather see him than denilson covering for Song… Next season though i’m sure Frimpong will be in and hopefully denilson will have moved on….

  17. Rupe says:

Erick, who complains when we play the same team?

The way I see it people just worry when too much demand is put on someone who’s just back from injury. We probably lost over a season of RVP in total because we rushed him back a couple of times, and that was because we had no-one even close to his level. Even if you don’t rotate, you do need cover.

Centrebacks are also prone to getting suspended. I really think you need 4 good ones, otherwise you’re relying on being really lucky with bans and injuries.

  18. Steve Palmer says:

I honestly believe that with the squad we have, we can beat anyone, the answer is to get the best eleven fit and playing in the same game.A couple of good signings could help of course

  19. rico says:

Rupe, some of players moan as does wenger and all too often he blames fatigue for a loss…. most here want us to always play the strongest eleven for every game…

  20. Steve Palmer says:

Wenger frustrates me so much, that at times i call for his head on the chopping block, but you have to hand it to him, the mans a genius

  21. Will says:

    Morning guys.

I think there is a slight fear in Wenger, what happens if he spends £20m on Cahill and he is a clogger flop? Do the fans support his transfer “try”? Or would the fans be on his back for wasting £20m?

As for Bent, I am not sure he could play our style but he bangs goals in and to be honest, would be a great third option. I think he has scored 25 in 32, that is crazy and something we need.

As for City, this is what Wenger meant with financial doping. They can just buy and sell, buy and sell until the find a player who works. It is cheating really but if you mention it to a City fan, they say we are scared and jealous. Jealous of a team that has to buy success? Ha ha and HA.

  22. Johnny Deigh says:

The problem with Adebayor is that he is on something like 150,000/week. So any team buying him would have to pay him the same.

Personally, I don’t think Adebayor is saleable. The only hope that Citeh have of getting rid of him is a loan deal where Citeh pay half his wages.

  23. Alan S says:

I think it would be a tad harsh on Bouldy if Vieira came back and went straight in a no.2

We really need a strong, opinionated no.2. I would worry that Paddy would pander to Wenger and become another ‘yes’ man.

We need defensive stability/organisation, so for me it should be Bouldy. Give the U18’s to Paddy and see how he gets on!

  24. rico says:

    Will,

thats why i think he’ll play it safe with a Mexes kind of purchase, then if it doesn’t work out he hasn’t wasted big bucks…

  25. Will says:

    Morning Rico

I have been thinking why we don’t buy big even though we have the cash and I have come to the conclusion Wenger is scared what it would look like if the player flops.

On his side a second, we are not a club that can buy a player for big bucks and if he flops, sell him on for little so he has to be careful.

  26. Will says:

NICKLAS BENDTNER has told Arsenal he will not be forced out of the club against his wishes.
The Danish striker, 23, is unhappy with his lack of first-team opportunities this season.

But he has made it clear he will only leave the Emirates on his own terms after reports in Denmark said the Gunners have put a£15million price tag on his head.

Bendtner’s father and agent, Thomas, declared: “If Arsenal wish to sell him and put a price on him, that’s up to them.

“All I can say is that we are not interested.”

Bendtner has been playing second fiddle to summer signing Marouane Chamakh.

Now his opportunities have been further limited by Robin van Persie’s return from injury.

A number of Premier League rivals have asked about taking him on loan.

But the Gunners insist he will be allowed to leave only for a hefty transfer fee.

  27. SD-London says:

Adebayo’s case make me laugh all the time, it shows how stupid he was and how stupid the Directors were for buying him for £25mIll.
Were they blind to think he his worth 25mil.He only scored 40goals because he had the best AM in the premier league behind all the time.

Aston Villa is the second stupid brigade, buying Bent for £25mil are they that thick?

  28. rico says:

Spot on Will, Wenger usually makes a profit on players, a big one at that, barring those he lets go for free 🙁

  29. Steve Palmer says:

Just thinking about the first half of the season. Wenger has been pretty shrewed, he always puts a weak team in the Carling Cup, but this year he duped Twitchy into copying him, only to find at the end of the day wenger had put out a better eleven, Spuds exit, i was at that game and it gave me huge satisfaction. He has done something similar in the FA cup as well by fielding an under strength team against Leeds only to bring on our main strength players when needed. That almost backfired at home, but we got away with it. Now were into the second half of the season, and whoever we play, are not sure what team he will put out. whether this is planned or not i wouldn’t know, but it has made other teams think about it. For the remainder of the season, i would be surprised if Wenger keeps this changing of the team up for much longer, as dropped points could be the difference between winning the league or not. long term injuries are coming to an end, and fresh players are coming back for the second half, with this notion in mind, the second half looks quite promising

  30. rico says:

Off for a couple of hours fine folk, i have a birthday to celebrate, starting with a liquid lunch 🙂 🙂

    Lemonade of course 😉

  31. SD-London says:

Will! be seriouse , Bent is not going to get Aston Villa into the Champions League. It is not going to happen with bent alone.

Are an Aston Vila fan or something ?

  32. SD-London says:

Yeahp WILL is an Aston Villa fan,

Bent is not worth more than £14mill.
How many of those goals has he scored againts say Liverpool, Chelsea,Arsenal , MAn Utd or Even the Tutts.

  33. Rupe says:

This stat really brings it home:

In the last 5 seasons Bent’s scored 81 Premier League goals. Only Wayne Rooney and Didier Drogba have scored more, and they’ve only scored 82 each.

He also has a great attitude. He’s also an Arsenal fan. If we’d bought him for what Villa have paid I’d have considered it a masterstroke.

  34. SD-London says:

Bent doesn’t even score for Endgland.

Okay let me put me into perspective for you.
Should Real MAdrid be interested in Walcott and we are ready to sell.
I can immagine we will put something £25mil price thag on him.

HAs he scored goals than Bent? NO
His he worth £25mil? OH Yes

    Do you get it now.
Therefore throw Bent’s stats away it doesnt matter in his case.

  35. Will says:

Have a look but think. If he can score more than a goal every two games for Sunderland, how many will he score with top class service?

I am not saying he could play for us but if he score’s 15 goals for Villa and pushes them up the table, would it be a lot of money?

How about Cahill? We spend £20 million, a lot of money but if that one signing wins us the league, is it money well spent?

  36. oliver says:

    morning all…happy birthday rico – i shan’t ask how many…

i still don’t think we will sign anyone. as i understand, bolton have been tracking wheater for a while – to upgrade their defence, not necessarily as a cahill replacement. i also think we are playing a dangerous game here. squil’s problem is his hammy – a problem that is notoroiusly difficult to put a definitive recovery time on (ask cesc)…and i don’t think we can count on tommy being back until he is actually named to the squad. out since october, once he is ready to resume training, how long will he take to get up to speed?

i don’t think signing cover – just for the security blanket in case either jd or kos should be a problem – but arsene seems to view it ais anathema…

  37. SD-London says:

Will : It doesn’t matter if he is not scorring them in important games.
He is a good buy for Aston Villa because he is going to score goals for them which they really need at the moment.

BUt he can get them near Champions League unless they buy like say 4 more quality players.

  38. Will says:

Of course goals matter. Would it be better if he scored 8 goals against the big teams or 30 against the rest?

What would you say if RvP scored a goal a game against Man Utd, Chelsea, Man City and Tottenham but didn’t score any more that that in the season?

  39. SD-London says:

Scoring against big team shows a players ability in rising to big occasions.

Is Bent in the UEFA list of maybe best 30 strikers in Europe ?

Does he even feature in Fifa 2011 game ? 🙂

  40. Rupe says:

    Oh. My. God 😀

Last season: Bent’s 25 goals in 40 appearances included one in 2-2 draw at Old Tartford, in 1-0 victory over Liverpool (who had recently finished second in the league), in 1-0 win over Arsenal, twice in 3-1 win over Tottenham.

This season: the winner against Man City, the late equaliser against Arsenal, both goals in 2-2 draw with Liverpool.

I guess Arsenal don’t count as a big club, then?

And the fact that his international career hasn’t taken off makes him MORE valuable to a club, not less.

I wish RVP never scored any international goals, maybe Holland would stop injuring him…

  41. SD-London says:

I dont understand why we are going on about Bent , He is not an Arsenal player, he is not playing in a top team, he cant hold an England shirt (he is not going to with Andy Carol coming in ), He is not in the Top 10 strikers in the PL and he just signed for ASTON VILLA. Are you one of his twitter fans?

And Wenger didn’t think he was good enough when he was available for a cut price of £12mil (when at Charlton) .

    I rest my case .

  42. rico says:

Hi SD, all it shows is the money madness in football

now then, back to Arsenal, have we signed anyone yet 🙂

  43. oliver says:

hi rico…arsene said ramsey’s loan back to cardiff will only be about a month or so, and that he will be back here for the run-in. i would guess that arsene wants him match-ready at the business end of the season, and does not think he will get the necessary minutes over here…

  44. Rupe says:

Makes sense. Desperately want him playing for us but if he aint ready then a month somewhere else is good. I think the news that Diaby should be back probably tipped the scales.

  45. Rupe says:

SD, I take your point. I’ve just heard so many ppl going on about how Bent is a dumb buy by Villa this week and needed to get my thoughts on it off my chest. I’ll forget about it now… there are lots of players I’d like to wearing an Arsenal shirt but you’re right it’s the ones that actually do that matter. 🙂

  46. rico says:

hi oliver, thank you re the b’day, it’s far too many years to broadcast 😉

tht’s not so bad then re rambo in fact it makes good sense – he’ll get playing time, build up his fitness level and like you say, be back when we really need him…

Lansbury is off back on loan too but haven’t heard yet wehre Vela is going….

  47. rico says:

    Reported today

ARSENAL manager Arsene Wenger has refused to discuss which defender might be joining Arsenal after being heavily linked with Gary Cahill.

Arsenal are short of cover at the centre of defence, but Arsene Wenger refused to be drawn on whether he was set for a £10million swoop for Bolton’s England international Gary Cahill.

He said: “At the moment, I cannot come out with any name.

“I think Gary Cahill is a very good player, but I cannot tell you more.

“We like to keep our transfer negotiations always very secret, because it puts more pressure on when you go public so you would understand we don’t want to speak publicly about that.”

  48. oliver says:

hmmm…saw that earlier – my first thought is that is what is holding up vela’s loan move to bolton. arsene is more specific here – actually commenting on a name put directly to him as well. we’ll see how this plays out…

what i do not belive are the reports that we and bolton have already agreed to a fee (for cahill) and it will be announced next week…if/when this deal is done, i think it will finalized quickly and marked by movement (cahill and vela) in both directions…

  49. rico says:

jj suggested a while back that he believed the loan of vela to bolton could be connected to a move for cahill to us – like you say oliver, we have to see how this plays out but if we get him we have four really good central defenders and Squlli as the fifth actually wouldn’t look so bad then…

i honestly think that Kos is going to be a cracking buy, just don’t think he should have been thrown in at the deep end quite so quickly – not in this league…

  50. oliver says:

rico, if the smoke around cahill reveals a fire underneath, it could possibly indicate a less-than-optimistic prognosis for tommy. if we do complete a deal for cahill, i think the impetus will be tommy’s status, not necessarily kos, squil or any of our other defenders…

  51. agirlagunner says:

Boo! I wouldn’t mind extortionate prices for some top, top signing. You know which one I have in mind although, of course, he is not exactly on top of AFC’s Must Buy list.

Haha on Almunia. I really think he shall be leaving soon. 🙂

  52. K-TR7 says:

Happy birthday rico.hope the boys hit a scoreline reflecting your age…we really need to up our goal difference with a good old thrashing.

  53. agirlagunner says:

Good one, oliver. But you know, Torres is who I have in mind. Swoon, swoon. Yes, I know, its a CH and a DM that we need though.

  54. SD-London says:

am about to leave, wenger is not going to buy Cahilk because he has plans for VM.

So we might get somebody from Croatia or something 🙂

    HAve a nice weekend

  55. oliver says:

we’ll see, sd…yesterday i was certain that he wouldn’t buy anyone either. now i am not quite as certain…if he does buy, i think it will be linked to tommy’s status – i.e. the latter’s achilles (or other?) might be worse than any of us understand…

  56. rico says:

oliver – if we get cahill it means we could rotate without fear – when TV comes back, he needs to take it slowly, like i keep saying and sounding like a broken old record, that won’t be until next season….

    imho 😉

  57. rico says:

Hi agag and KT and thanks re the b’day wishes..

agag, when you get to my age, you get the zimmer out, shuffle to the local, enjoy lunch with a glass of sherry and shuffle home 😆 😆

  58. rico says:

you naughty ones, agag gets the prize of the day for getting you two (KT and oliver) out of that pickle…

    16 – 0 it will be 😆

  59. K-TR7 says:

Hi oliver.i don’t see us buying at all.its also interesting to see that mourinho and valdano are at loggerheads again.last week in madrid’s draw against bottom of the league Almeria madrid played strikerless leaving Benzema on the bench which angered Valdano.he has 1 striker while we have 5(yes he said that).he is desperate for horse face but madrid not so much.Mourinho criticized the referees in several games this season but the club hasn’t backed him in his claims.he has stated he may leave at the end of the season…

  60. rico says:

oliver – trust me, he will buy, the question is who… i think afc are being economical with the truth about TV – also, we as a club get so so so much stick about not winning trophies – wenger will bring one defender in, even it means we only secure the CC….

agag, did you see that city are after VdW 🙁

  61. oliver says:

k, i think it is touch-and-go as to whether we buy or not. but less than 24 hours ago, i was convinced we would not. now i am not so certain.

zzzzzzzz on the bernabeau drama. mourinho is just that – a drama queen. put him in a working relationship with another prima-donna like valdano, and this is what you get…public pissing and moaning about everything but what is relevant. we’ve seen all this from mourinho – and the real madrid directors…nothing to see here, move along…

rico, i am still not convinced, but the possibility of a purchase just rose in my view…we’ll see what happens.

  62. K-TR7 says:

Rico actually gave me a hint of her age sometime ago.she was born in the same year as a certain prominent football figure…and no its not red nose or twichy!!!she could qualify as a grandchild to those two…happy birthday rico.don’t make out yourself to be the same age as stratford hotspuds PL drought.you walk dogs, answer door bells, shopping in the mall, write a blog…keep it up.

  63. oliver says:

whatever your age is rico, hopefully your birthday is wonderful with many more to come. my birthday was a few weeks back – and i am similarly coy about my age.

  64. K-TR7 says:

Szczesny has been working extra hard to improve his distribution.its good to see a player realising his weakness and working on it.denilson is poor at tracking runners…let eboue steal him pants and make den chase after him…make him chase rabbits…something please!!!

  65. rico says:

KT, did i really give you a clue….. thank you though for such kind comments, but you guys must realise, i only do all this for you lot… 😉 😉

  66. rico says:

happy birthday for a few weeks back oliver – age means nothing, well apart from the zimmer in my case 😉

  67. agirlagunner says:

rico, 😀 re zimmer. But go take full advantage of that one day where you can request/demand anything, and everyone happily/begrudgingly obliges. 😉

  68. rico says:

agag, i have been demanding that since 5.30am, it’s worked too, i have been truly spoiled :)and yes, i deserve it… well, in my eyes 😉 😉

you see the VDW to City runour agag, not good 🙁

  69. agirlagunner says:

Oh no, I’m liking City less by the day. No, let me revise that. I dislike City more by the second. I want VdW too (well not as much as Torres), but we all know what happens when Bac is out. We get Eboue-ed. We need another RB. And VdW fits the bill!

KT, you must be a child prodigy. Belated happy birthday, oliver. 🙂

  70. agirlagunner says:

Haha, rico. 🙂 Smart girl. You have hours to go yet, go get someone to take you to the shops. Haha.

I read the VdW bit right after you mentioned it. Not good. 🙁 How typical of the billionaire-financed clubs. But let’s be honest, they have purchased a few lemons (Ade, Ade, oh and have I mentioned Ade?)

  71. rico says:

agag, shops are now shut here thankfully, i do all mine on line in any case but i like your way of thinking… 🙂

If you had eaten the lunch i did, even you wouldn’t be in the mood to traipse around the shops 😉 😉

  72. K-TR7 says:

Szczesny is a confident lad oliver.he posted this on twitter ‘still thinking how i let in johnson’s goal’…

  73. K-TR7 says:

To be honest ladies i don’t get why you get giddy when going shopping.i find it boring and if i have to do it i buy everything i want in the first shop i get and leave.

  74. agirlagunner says:

You should’ve taken photos, rico. 🙂 I’ll send you some as I’ll be on hols soon. 🙂 Crappy cam though.

KT, what a perfectly male thing to say. Haha.

Chesney is funny. Lansbury is too when I can understand him (I don’t get the lingo). Cesc always sounds earnest. Sami’s tweets are diametrically opposite to his exciting, sublime 2010-2011 (and beyond, I hope) footballer self. He’s pretty prosaic. Robin makes me laugh too.

oliver, that was a fantastic goal by Johnson. I wish we scored more of those.

  75. rico says:

KT, that is my kind of shopping – honestly, I don’t like it either…

agag, you are always on hols 😉 but i do love your photos 🙂

oliver, that goal was just the way on the night, any other day it would have been row z, he said that himself but it shows that if you shoot, you could actually find the back of the net – look and learn arsenal….

  76. K-TR7 says:

Has anyone ever noticed we only seem to concede ‘wondergoals’?…SKY sports love rubbing them in our faces.

  77. oliver says:

thanks rico and agag…my xx birthday was rather quiet, a normal work day in fact. got an iphone 4g that day – finally upgraded…

Good night, rico. Keep enjoying your day! 🙂 To my mind, I sooo deserve holidays. Hah. 😉

Ooooh, an upgrade, oliver. I remember that the first iphone was a gift from your wife. Nice!

KT, Skysports revels in our bad spells and tends to belittle our accomplishments. “Porous defense’, ‘soft centre’, blah blah blah (not that the observations are not true). It’s all white noise to me. 😉

    evening guys
i disagree on your view on bent SD
hes the third best finisher in the PL
out of all the strikers in the PL (not including the ones who have been and gone) bent has scored the third most goals
drogba and rooney are top with 82 a piece so far..bent has 81 pl goals and hes played for nobody and hes still only 26..
the way hes going hes going to hit the 100 mark and thats a fantastic achievement..
the reason he cost over 20 mil is not cos he is english but cos hes just as prolofic as rooney and drogba and they cost 25mil..
bents underrtated..hes one of the most clinical strikers in the league
he scored 25 pl league goals in one season for charlton for fuck sake hes about as clinical as they get..
and for the record cahill is on his way…bolton have debts of over 100 mill they need to offload and quickly
i still maintain my theory that velas loan was delayed until a replacement for cahill was found i.e. wheater..
the deals on and it could be for around 10-12 mil which is a bargain for cahill…

and il ad my tupence worth on ches distribution..
almunia was picked for so long because his distrubution was excellent but he was a shit keeper, he can find rvp with his eyes closed but hes not paid for that hes paid to keep the simple shots out and he didnt..
fab is in the same mould as almunia he can kick a ball 200yards but is that what we want our gks main attribute to be??? no …

ches is a natural keeper..good shot stopper, good command of area and a big presence at the back

i dont give a toss whether he can kick a ball 50 yards onto a teamates head, i give a shit about him being a natural goalkeeper and keeping the simple shots out that gets us beat by soft goals and thats exactley what he is..

there are 10 outfields players who can distribute for fun..let the keeper ‘keep’

  81. Steve Palmer says:

    Hi Jon Jon,
sorry, i have to disagree with Czez, i think he will be a good keeper but at the moment i dont think he is No 1 flappy hasn’t done much wrong, i also think he commands his box better, but time will tell.

  82. Will says:

Skysports.com understands Arsenal are weighing up a shock move to sign Tottenham defender Jonathan Woodgate.

The Spurs man came through a practice game in midweek against QPR having not played since November 2009 due to a career-threatening groin problem.

Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is looking to strengthen his backline in this month’s transfer window due to injuries to regular stoppers Thomas Vermaelen and Sebastien Squillaci.

And it is understood the Frenchman wants to raid Arsenal’s north London rivals for Woodgate to plug the gap in his side’s central defence.

Former England stopper Woodgate arrived at White Hart Lane from Middlesbrough in 2008, but has seen his Spurs career hampered by injury.

Previously, Spurs boss Harry Redknapp has indicated he would allow Woodgate to leave on loan to interested clubs QPR or Leeds, provided he can achieve basic fitness.

  83. JonJon says:

    hey steve my good man
yeah im not necesarily saying cescsazzzxxaaeney should be number one just yet fabs done nothing wrong like you say it would be unfair to just say sorry son youve lost your place
ive had this debate with someone before we cant really drop fab cos hes doing ok
all im saying is i think ppl should look passed the distribution thing with the lad..its not an issue hes a keeper first and foremost shot stopping and control of his area are his main attributes, it should not include being the cesc fabregas bewtween the sticks…

all that being said though mate…fabs been injured..(so wenger says) and lost his place and now czxezzxzcczzccneys done nothing wrong so how do we drop him?? 😉 lol

i suppose in a way its finally a good thing that we have two keepers who are doing nothing wrong and we can rely on the both of them when called upon..

    at last…

  84. The BearMan says:

Once again the entire football world is asking? What is Wenger about to do? No talk about Mourinho’s, Barca and Kaka but about the infamous Snake Fist, La Wenger. Pundits, bloggers, critics, fans, football managers, have been twitching. Is he, or won’t he? All the while the Bear have been warming himself with the finest selection of honey!

  85. The BearMan says:

Personally speaking Arsene would have lost his rag to pay 25m for Cahill. The Bear would have done better in this transfer window, by buying 2 world class defenders and have plenty of Wonga left for a Hitman upfront. Cahill is only worth 9m, but inflated because he is English!
