One player definately arriving in January as striker, midfielder and defender linked..

Well it’s Friday so today we look back on a few rumours that have been around and who we have been linked to. The January Transfer window maybe still be many weeks away but it certainly doesn’t stop clubs, agents and even players trying to set up business for the impending silly month of January.

Of course none of us really expect any of these rumours to become real in January, Arsene Wenger doesn’t do business that way.

First up is Brazilian Welliton, full name is Welliton Soares de Morais, born October 22, 1986 in Conceição do Araguaia, Pará. He is a Brazilian striker who currently plays for Spartak Moscow. He’s just under 5’9” tall and there is absolutely no chance we will buy him. He’s too small and we already have Vela, JET, Chuks, Afobe and a couple of others all waiting in the wings, just ready to take their opportunity.

Next is Borussia Dortmund ace Mario Gotze, he’s just signed a new five-year contract so I’m not going to bother. In any case he’s another midget, another attacking midfielder and we have plenty in that department. He’ll soon be labelled the ‘next Ozil’ no doubt but not by ou fans!

Then we have Eden Hazzard, this story comes around every season and I don’t expect any different outcome at the end of January either. The Belgium attacking midfielder/winger is renown for his speed and great ability and could be just what we need but with our own little Brazillian arriving in January, I can’t see there being much truth in this link either despite strong reports suggesting we are in a three horse race with Manchester United and Liverpool to sign him…

Our own Brazilian is of course Wellington Alves da Silva – he should finally arrive in January and no doubt I am as excited as every other Arsenal fan.

Wellington has already played for us, well the reserves. Once against Manchester United Reserves on the 19 August 2010. He played the whole 90 minutes and managed to get on the score-sheet. Another game was a  January 2010 against English professional team Dagenham and Redbridge. He scored two goals and set up a third.  He’s an exciting prospect…

Next is Sime Vrsaljko, a Croatian right-back who currently plays for Dinamo Zagreb and Croatia under 19’s. Interesting this one as waiting in the wings is Francis Coquelin who is currently on loan at Lorient. Unless Wenger has different plans for Coquelin then I can’t see this one being of substance!

Another rumour – we are reported to be in pole position for Werder Bremen play maker Marko Marin. This chap is 21yrs old winger/attacking midfielder who already plays for Germany.

And then finally, the rumours wouldn’t be complete without the usual link to Per Mertesacker, reports in Germany suggest we are going to offer £10 million in January 2011 and the player can’t wait to jump at the opportunity….

Well, that’s if we can’t get Jagielka from Everton or Gary Cahill from Bolton….

If I have missed any player out, please feel free to let me know and while living in a fantasy world, who would you pick if you had one choice. Who really would bring a bit more strength and depth to this current side?

That’s if for today folks, tomorrow it’s back to the ‘serious’ stuff as the Geordie Boys are coming to town on Sunday….

    Morning Rico,

Wicked girl, stirring the pot, especially after I said yesterday how cross I was about it all starting 7 or 8 weeks early! Women! 🙂

  2. W.A.T.H says:

Coquelin, isn’t he on loan in France Rico not Juventus…! L’Orient..? Traore is at Juventus..?

    And……….. morning 😉

  3. afc says:

I hope we add to the squad in January, I feel that we are not far away from having what I would call a serious squad, I would like us to have me penetration against the big teams in Europe and prem, it’s all well and good smashing 4,5,6 past teams like blackpool. We need somebody who is strong and fast who can bag lots of goals then will be ready.

  4. didee says:

I’d Take Mertesacker to shore up our defence and help our maturity…every other player is work in progress, we got enuff of dt

  5. rico says:

Hi Evo, thanks, good to see you here, how you doing??

Haven’t seen you around in the world of blogging recently? You remember T-buzz?? He’s here most days…

  6. Evo in Oz says:

im going well thanks, what about you?

bit of a stuff up in the CL, but hopefully 3 points against the barcodes on the weekend!

  7. Greetings from Sweden says:

You forgot to mention Ibrahim Afellay, which would be my choice. He reminds me of a young and speedy Giggs.

  8. didee says:

Rico, well i think someone will join wellington in January, am guessing in the defensive mould but sure its not Mertesacker

  9. Pat says:

I don’t reckon we’re going to buy anyone, mertesacker would be a quality signing, but tbh we don’t really need anyone going forward, we’ve got enough, it’s just all the injuries!! If we had no injuries, who couldn’t we beat?

  10. rico says:

all good thanks Evo, trying to forget the tripe to ukraine.. 😉

didee – i hope he will sign someone defensive, preferably a midfileder, but not the big man sadly

  11. W.A.T.H says:

Hazard is a good player not sure he’s just to similar to what we already have though. As everyone says we still need a few rough ready n rugged types…! That’ll get Rico and AGAG all excited…!

  12. Red Arse says:

Me too WATH, love a bit of rough and ready! 🙂

Pat, after the way Eboue played on Wednesday as our “back up” right back, I cannot believe Arsene won’t buy another full back. Surely even his loyalty must have been stretched by that abject display?

Not even too convinced about Sagna.

  13. Red Arse says:

    Greetings,

I like the look of Affelay too but he has made it clear he wants to got to Spain, or, if not, then the Premier League, but he wants to go to Liverpool as he is a fan.

  14. W.A.T.H says:

Kunlech, can’t see the point in that he can’t play them so at least they getting game time on loan which is more than what they will get if he calls them back.

  15. SD-London says:

Well i read in the papers this morning that we are looking to buy Shawn Wright Philips (£5M) and that Liverpool are interested after all.

We have being linked with him for years now but maybe if he didn’t make the stupid decision of going to Chelsea we he might have fulfilled his father’s dream of playing for us.

But i don’t honestly think Wenger will buy him, we have Walcott (unless for cover when Walcott is injured which will be more competition for Eboue as well.)

So that’s a rubbish rumour i guess, i think it is his PR working with the papers.

  16. rico says:

SD, SWP is on the way down, he needs a move though away from Citeh, not to us though… i’m with you, he naffed his career up by following the chavs money and now the citeh money doesn’t want him….

  17. T-buzz says:

    3 points, clean sheet, 4 goals(minimum), 2 Clichy assists and I’ll be a happy bunny!! 🙂

Thats not too much to ask for against the magpies, is it? lol

Morning peoples!! Friday drugs have kicked in!!

  18. T-buzz says:

No SWP please, I would have had him with us a few years ago but now he looks lazy and we’ve already got AA as our in-house lazy.

  19. rico says:

Morning T-buzz, not too much to ask at all, as long as the attitude from Wednesday has truly gone from the players we should be beating a Newcastle side…

    Kos will be back too….

  20. SD-London says:

SWP is just down in confidence, he is talented but had a bad advisor by going Chelsea way – they killed his game.

The Chavs nearly killed of Rodwells game but he was smart and left for Villa.

They have destroyed Joe Coles game totally- he is not sure of where to play.

When SWP went to Chelsea i knew he was going to regret it .His father was happy then but i thought he was stupid for allowing his son to go to Chelsea at a tender age to play with star obsessed Abram&Jose Chavs

SWP will probably end up in Villa or Bolton unless Wenger just wants a cheap back up.

  21. SD-London says:

He is only 29 he still has speed and good control and he can cross as well.

He just needs a good coach who can give him his confidence back and make the best use of his abilities.

Like i usually say , most footballers don’t seem to have a brain of their own.

Apparently he picked Chelsea because they offered more money because i guessed Wenger was in on signing him at that same period as well.

He could not even displace Beckham from the England team.

  22. rico says:

That’s what I mean SD, 29 is a bit old for Wenger, agree he was once a greta player but how long would it take him to get back to his old way of playing?

  23. T-buzz says:

Anyone watch the games last night? City got stuffed like a Xmas turkey and Mancini looked like a man abou to be given the boot!

Oil’s well that ends well 😉

  24. T-buzz says:

Man City beaten by Lech Poznan 3-1 (mwaaahahahahaha!!)

Liverpooh 3-1 Napoli. Well, more like Stevie Gerrard-3 Napoli-1. The Pooh were rubbish throughout the 1st half then they brought Gerrard on 2nd half and he ran the show scoring 3.

  25. rico says:

Good to see Gerrard found some form last night ahead of their game with the Chavs… For one day only, well, 90 minutes i want the dippers to win….

  26. SD-London says:

Macini is definitely not for the Premier League, he doesn’t understand how it works.

I think he started badly by enforcing 2 training sessions with his players , that definitely cause a bad blood between him and the players.

Also the reports of rift between the Mancs players on and off pitch just shows he cant handle the big names in the club.TOO MUCH EGO.

  27. rico says:

we need the dippers to get something, even a point would do me, but meanwhile, back in the north of london, we need to make sure we get our own house in order and send the geordies home with nowt…

  28. Red Arse says:

Sorry T-Buzz, didn’t mean to steal your thunder. Your response was much better with the explanations. 🙂

  29. rico says:

Its happened too often for us, get all excited when the chavs and mancs drop points, only for us to then do the same, the WBA weekend showed us that…

  30. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

I have just noticed that Highbury House is already included in the list of Arsenal blogs on “justarsenalblogs.com”

    You clever old thing! 🙂

  31. Red Arse says:

Arsene has said in his press conference that TV has returned to training, according to Ashburton Grove blog.

    Excellent!

  32. Red Arse says:

    Rico,

All four are said by Arsene to be fit for Sunday.

However, it seems that Diaby has a potentially serious ankle injury from when that idiot Robinson made that two footed tackle on him.

AW says he has never been right since and has seen two surgeons and may need to see another. He is really worried about Diaby.

  33. rico says:

Thanks RA, how come its taken so long for them to realise about Diaby, he’s played on it since then hasn’t he??

Good news on the others though 🙂

  34. SD-London says:

Diabys and RVPs and Walcotts – too many of those sorts in Arsenal.

Why can we have more of Nasri kind of strength and fast healing process.

  35. rico says:

Hi KT, i’ll sort the widget out then 😉

T-buzz, i know its boring of me to copy SD, but couldn’t resist it 😆

  36. SD-London says:

But i forgot about Gibbs , when is he going to stop getting injured.
Can anyone remember any major Chavs player in the treatment room ?

  37. K-TR7 says:

Aw has said the only way to stop bale is using your brain and intelligence.i expect the media to come up with headlines like ‘Aw blasts brainless and unintelligent maicon…’ something along those lines.

  38. SD-London says:

    Ramsey,
    Gibbs,
    RVP,
    TV,
    Diaby,
    Fripong,
    Alumna?,

Resently we had – Denilson,Song,Arshavin, Fabregas and Vela

We just got back Walcott, Bendtner and Fabregas

  39. rico says:

However, I was really gutted for Frimpong, having played a part in the pre-season, i think this was going to be a big time for him… he would have gone to the ukraine instead of eastmond i’m sure…

gutsy little player with a big future…

  40. K-TR7 says:

Most Arsenal fans were begging Aw to sign lloris.if anyone saw lyon vs Benfica you’ll see how poor he is when it comes to crosses and dead balls which is where we struggle.he is an excellent shot stopper though…and Benfica’s Coentrao is going to be a world class player soon.

  41. SD-London says:

    Something is definitely wrong.
    Either the kit is wrong
or the players are not that strong
or they just dont know how to get out of the way when a nutter is raging towards them.

  42. rico says:

SD, we certainly seem to suffer much more than most with injuries, there has to be something wrong somewhere…. unless of course, some of these injuries are not ‘real’ injuries –

just look at almunia, no way was he injured, he’s dropped…

then, TV gets a mysterious injury and just after he speaks out about Cesc..

  43. agirlagunner says:

Oh, your bonfire night!! You won’t be getting much sleep until late then. 🙂 Plus, the pets won’t like all the noise.

  44. rico says:

we have had them all week, the dogs go crazy 🙁 Then just as you think it’s quiet, bang, off we go again, i’d ban the wretched things… 🙁

  45. agirlagunner says:

That’s too bad, rico. I like the grand fireworks but the noisemakers, not so much.

You know, in the Phils., the Christmas season starts reaaaaalllly early; the carolers doing the rounds should be starting any day now… I’m notorious for actually telling people that I’d give money but only if they don’t sing and move to the next house posthaste. 😉 Hahaha. And I’m not kidding.

  46. rico says:

That is so so early for the carol singing agag, almost undermines the event… just like in the shops i guess… i love Christmas but for our house it starts on the 24th December…

And why do carol singers sound so out of tune… 😉 Good for you re moving them on, it’s painful on the ear 🙂

  47. agirlagunner says:

I can’t imagine how cold your cold is, though. 🙂

I’m only ever nice to the old folk or the disabled carolers. Which means, I let them sing half a song, say perfunctory thanks, and then wave them on… Haha.

  48. Red Arse says:

It’s not cold Rico, in fact it’s pretty tropical at the mo’. You wait until Sunday when you will need to put your woolly drawers back on! 🙂

I have been around, on and off, thru out the day. It’s just that you don’t read my brilliant odes! 🙂

  49. rico says:

no no RA, i think agag means when its cold 😉 right now its mild and the kind of weather that give people a cold/flu…

i have read all your comments RA and I mean all 😉 😉

  50. Red Arse says:

    Oooer! 🙂

On that note I think I need a drink! Non-alcoholic as Agag is around! 🙂

See you in the morning Rico.

  51. rico says:

Oh no, i have driven you to drink RA 😉 Only been teasing you….

Have a good evening and catch up next time…
