On this day……

So much has been said and written about David Rocastle over the last 30+ years. His spirit, the red and white coloured blood which flowed through his veins, his passion for both the game, the club and the fans. His tears when the day his Arsenal career came to an end. Our tears when his life was so so cruelly cut short.

He could play a bit couldn’t he….

David Rocastle was everything today’s kind of footballer is not, or at least so many of them who flaunt their fast cars and ten bedroom homes. Offer him an Arsenal contract extension and I bet he’d have signed it before the ink dried and probably without reading its contents. I’d imagine the financial package offered would be insignificant, although a player with his talent would be rewarded handsomely these days.

Nineteen years have passed since he left this world and yet in seems like only yesterday when the terribly sad news broke. As always on this day, HH remembers our number 7 and of course, my thoughts are with his wife Janet and their three children.

Stay safe guys, stay healthy…

    Morning Andrew, thanks.

Rocky is just the kind of player we need today. No frills and spills, just a very good and honest footballer. One of my all time favourites along with Romford Pele.

Good morning Rico, I’ve just read the obituary written by Brian Glanville, in The Guardian. How sad Rocky was to leave Arsenal.

Best wishes to his wife and children.

    Morning Rico/all
    David Rocastle RIP
He has to be my all time favourite Arsenal player, fantastic attitude and hard work ethic but also great skill.I remember one goal against Spurs, League Cup about 87/88 but there were lots more.
He was one of our own before Harry Kane !
In a previous post you asked for our favourite Arsenal team, mine was1990/91 which Rocky was part of.Peak David Seamen in goal, rock solid back 4,Rocky,Limpar,Merson providing creativity,Alan Smith banging in the goals – before he became TV’s most boring man.
That was the year we were deducted points for a brawl at Old Trafford,Tony Adams went to prison for dangerous driving, and we still won the League easily, scoring loads of goals Happy days

Thanks Sue, that Wrighty interview needed a box of tissues handy. Really heartfelt.

    Morning Cicero, Limey.

Those were the good old days Limey when football was football. Not a game about finances, television deals and agents..

    A little light relief….

A suspected Covid-19 male patient is lying in bed in the hospital, wearing an oxygen mask over his mouth and nose. A young student female nurse appears and gives him a partial sponge bath.
“Nurse,”‘ he mumbles from behind the mask, “are my testicles black?”
Embarrassed, the young nurse replies, “I don’t know, Sir. I’m only here to wash your upper body and feet.”
He struggles to ask again, “Nurse, please check for me. Are my testicles black?”
Concerned that he might elevate his blood pressure and heart rate from worrying about his testicles, she overcomes her embarrassment and
    pulls back the covers.
She raises his gown, holds his manhood in one hand and his testicles gently in the other.
She looks very closely and says, “There’s nothing wrong with them, Sir. They look fine.”
The man slowly pulls off his oxygen mask, smiles at her, and says very slowly,
“Thank you very much. That was wonderful. Now listen very,
    very, closely:
    “Are – my – test – results – back?

  7. VCC says:

    Thank you rico.

    RIP Rocky.

Just watched the film…..I’m in tears now, brought so many happy memories back for me, watching him whilst standing on the North Bank, what a player.

I remember some very unhappy neighbours, Potter. They didn’t take kindly to me strolling past their house in my Arsenal shirt. 😉

    Hi Geoff, all.

Watching the Rocky clip makes one realise that life is not a guarantee, live it the best we can and be happy. One just never knows what is around the corner…

  10. Cicero says:

Here’s a man with an odd attitude. Daniel Levy has announced that his 550 non-playing staff will take a 20% pay cut.

No mention of his overpaid players doing the same. He announced that the club will be taking advantage of the government scheme to furlough staff to save jobs. So the taxpayer is funding the hard up non playing staff while the players are feather bedded on their full salaries.

    Way to go Daniel.

    Morning guys,
Another day, another few movies watched 🙂
Not locked down, but partially shut down and so far, it seems to be going ok here in Oz.
    Hope you’re all safe!!!
