“Not a lot has changed at Arsenal” says BBC man…

Morning all.

We’ve seen AMN flirt with England, Ben White too with Aaron Ramsdale called in for the Euros back in the summer but only because of injury. He wasn’t ours then but he is now and this time, he’s been selected by Gareth Southgate on merit. Because he’s been excellent for Arsenal. Both    Ben White and AMN miss out this time but I don’t think it’ll be too long before at least one of them is back in international action. Bukayo Saka has been called up for England, of course he has and I’m not sure how long Southgate will be able to resist promoting Emile Smith Rowe to the senior team.

Arsenal having players representing England is great news in my opinion.

Arsenal go to The Amex Stadium tomorrow to face Brighton. A team we thumped last time around. They ripped us off for Ben White and reinvested. They’re doing well.

Can Arsenal beat them? Why not?

The Seagulls have made a really impressive start to the season, but Arsenal are on a bit of a roll at the moment. Mark Lawrenson told BBC Sport, as he predicted a 2-0 win for the visitors. That run won’t last for too long – not a lot has changed about the Gunners, really, because I still think they will go on streaks of good or bad results just like last season – but they will be smiling on Saturday evening anyway.

Of course blokes like Lawrenson, Souness, Lineker etc etc want Arsenal to lose because they’re bitter and twisted old has beens with an agenda. They have to try an justify their existence in their job and what better way than to have a downer on Arsenal. It’s likely that Mikel Arteta’s team will lose a match soon, maybe even tomorrow but that’s the nature of the game. What Arsenal don’t need is stupid predictions from people who haven’t a clue about what goes on inside the club or know what Mikel Arteta is trying to build. In the words of Kevin Keegan, I’d love it if Arsenal went to Anfield in a few weeks time and beat them. Love it!

But you know what, these pundits, media or whatever they call themselves can carry on because they can help push Arsenal on. I can remember Fergie using Arsene Wenger’s comments about Utd to push his team to the treble the year after Arsene won his first double. The more the Frenchman said about fixtures, Utd, their players, the more the Utd fire was stoked.

Sensible people will know that Arsenal are far from perfect, they’ll know that Mikel Arteta still has a huge job on his hands to get the club back into Europe but he’s building a team/squad for the future whilst clearing out those who don’t fit into his plans.

If you look around at what Klopp, Guardiola, OGS and Tuchel have done, remember how much money they had to do it. Arteta hasn’t had that luxury so it’s taken him longer to build his own team. If the players Arsenal brought in this summer are a sign of what’s to come then I think we can compete with the clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea, Utd and City in the future.

As for Lawrenson saying not a lot has changed at Arsenal, I think he needs to look a bit closer…

See you in the comments.

Morning rico, what a lazy bit of reporting from Lawrenson! We have spent more than any other club on multiple players, gone from 3 defeats to 3 wins, and nothing has changed. What is it with ex Liverpool pundits?

  2. Adam says:

Morning Rico. I agree. We are in the process of change right now and Arteta is powering it. There are going to be stumbles along the way for sure though.
Like many, I have struggled with Mikel for a while and I imagine that he has had his own demons too. In fact, his interview recently touched on this and I thought it to be one of the most cathartic self-examinations I have seen and very unusual in its candour and openness.
Lawrenson and his weary and rather creepy persona have nothing to do with where we hope this period will lead our club.

In one respect he is right nothing has changed as far as Tottenham are concerned “” Forever in our shadow “” cue dancing chimps .
But I am always perplexed as to why the media love to get the nose drippings of every ex scouser and treat their comments as gospel just because they had a dominant period on a tilted pitch doesn’t give them a degree in perception.
They just haven’t forgiven us for 1971 and 1989 . Long may it stick in their throats

Morning Adam. Me too re Arteta. I doubted him and to a degree, still do but there does seems to be a hint of change at the club and like you, I think he’s had to reflect a bit. I’ve noticed he’s calmed down on the sidelines which perhaps reflects his greater belief and trust he has in his players. Aubameyang said they all had a chat so perhaps Arteta was part of it.

I’d forgotten 1971 Potter, only for a second though. Lol

1989 must have been a real kick in the teeth. They thought it was theirs but how wrong they were.

  6. Cicero says:

Good morning all. I hadn’t seen the dancing chimps before, brilliant, thanks Rico.

I suppose Arsenal are, or at least have been, an easy target for lazy or incompetent journos with a column to fill. At least the Spuds have been doing their best to ease the burden a little. The Kane to City saga, the hunt for a new manager and finally the signing their fifth or sixth choice. Then of course there have been the well documented trip ups and prat falls in the league, the EFL Cup and the tuppeny-happeny European Losers League.

It’s worth remembering that the largest attendance at The New Swamp, this season, will turn out to be not for a game of football but for a boxing match.

I love them Cicero. Only trouble is, I spend the next few hours singing the tune.

Ha ha re the Toots ground. They won last night so all will be rosy again. Until the next time…

I really couldn’t give a toss what Mark Lawrenson thinks or says, the only thing that surprises me is that he’s still employed by the BBC, a corporation that dolls out license fee money to all and sundry as long as they fit a certain box that can be ticked.

I also don’t believe all the old guff that Graham Potter has come out with regarding an injury crisis at Brighton and expect the majority of those players he reported to be as doubtful to be in the starting XI tomorrow. It’s all a game.

    Hi Rico and all
    The dancing monkeys brilliant,
I now why our players are tired, according to our pay tv they have Arsenal men’s team playing Aston villa and Brighton at the same time.

  10. allezkev says:

I know Rico and it also gives you the opportunity to remind me when I’ve posted something that you’ve already said it. 😆

  11. potter says:

I live in Australia at the moment and think about getting DAZN. The price seems fair but what I haven’t understood yet is how it works. Do I need any additional hardware for it or is it integrated in my TV already?

A post on another thread , don’t know if Geoff or Scott can help .

  12. Aussie Geoff says:

Potter I hav Optus and they supplied a fetch box that connects one lead to the NBN box and the one lead to the tv then it depends on what pay tv package you order to how much it cost. Mine is a package that supplies 2 mobile phones 1 home phone – unlimited internet and most pay tv channels I believe Telstra also offer a package but they have Foxtel but I don’t know if Foxtel have the soccer you will have to check hope that helps
