Morning all.
Well the words from Alisher Usmanov were most welcome. He has no intention of doing a deal with Stan Kroenke, not today or any day but he would entertain selling his shares to someone else but that’s only if they want the club to succeed in the same way the big fella does. So for now, the concerns over Kroenke becoming our sole owner can be put to one side. That is of course if you had any in the first place. Mind you we’re not tipped by https://www.topfootballtipster.com/ to win much all the time Wenger is coach…
In other news, Cesc Fabregas has confessed to being the player throwing the pizza around a few years back at Old Trafford. A piece caught Fergie apparently which I’d love to have seen. The Scots usually red face would have look worse with a bit of passata added to it. Oh those days eh, when players had a bit of fight in them, a bit of attitude and passion. A day when Riley made sure we wouldn’t get to fifty matches unbeaten. He’s still at it today too as he picks and chooses who officiates our fixtures.
The sad thing is though that not only do we have a group of players nowadays who are nothing like those we had back then but the rivalry between Arsenal and Man Utd has never been the same either. Fergie continued to be successful whereas for Arsenal, it was the beginning of the decline. We won the FA Cup final against them in May 2005 but that was only after they’d battered us all game. Scholes missed his penalty, Vieira didn’t miss his. In the league we came runners up, twelve points behind Chelsea and Utd were third, six points behind us.
The following season we finished twenty four points behind the champions Chelsea, the next, twenty one points behind Utd and then came the season in which we had a really good chance to be league champions once again. You don’t need me to tell you what happened back then. We ended up being five points behind Utd who once again won the league.
The following season, 2008/09 there was eighteen points between us in fourth place and Utd at the top, 2009/10 was a little better with just eleven points being the gap between us in third for a change and the champions Chelsea.
2010/11 saw Utd become champions again, twelve points was the gap between us and them that season and the season which followed wasn’t much better either. We managed third spot but nineteen points divided us and Man City who had won the league for the first time ever.
2012/13 wasn’t much different. 4th spot for us, sixteen points adrift, 2013/14 finished with us just seven behind the champions but same old story, fourth place! 2014/15 saw us finish third for a change with thirteen points being the shortfall. 2015/16, the season which could, and should have ended so differently. Utd, Chelsea and City were going through tricky times and this was our real chance. But no, in royal fashion, we cocked it up after Arsene Wenger had decided we didn’t need a single outfield player signed during the summer. That was his chance and he’ll never get another imo.
Finally, last season, our worst during his management. Eighteen points behind league champions Chelsea, eleven points behind our north London rivals and not even a Champions League spot to brag about. Not that finishing fourth is anything to brag about but it does seem to be the competition the best players want to competing for.
But other than in 2006, we’ve never really competed in that big competition have we? We’ve simply taken part and taken the money. Same with the Premier League, we take part but since the invincible squad, we’ve never looked like we could really win it.
No, we’ve gone from being invincible to pretty much invisible and it’s been sad to watch the decline…
A kind of sorry tale of being good but not good enough. Par for a Kroenke course just enough to keep the money rolling in on minimum investment.
However there are many club’s fans that would snatch your hand off for that record..
Good comment, Potter.
Most clubs would love to see their club in our position, but then, our expectations have been raised by those running the club, and they’re still to deliver on promises made.
Morning all.
But surely as those other clubs would love to have our finishing position each year, our aim is towards those who constantly finish above us?
It’s a sorry sign when our neighbours look better equipped to win the league than us…
Morning all.
Most clubs would like to see their club in our position.WHAT!!!! Maybe Crystal Palace. We a great club with as much tradition and heritage as anyone but know The Arsenal mansion has horrendous subsidence.
I wish someday soon we aren’t continuously discussing about Kroenke,Usmanov,The Board and Wenger and we can get back to talking about the ups and down of our great Club on the field and the players hopefully that will get applauded for their skill.
Football we thought was in a new age when Abramovich arrived but now things have progressed beyond belief and it is all about money, the sport comes second.
To be left with a non investing majority shareholder, a non football Board and a manager who for his own sake should have bowed out gracefully years ago, 2014 would have been just about OK for me (number of years depending how you feel) and everything else that we have discussed time and time again leaves me to think we are really going to slip away from the top 3 or 4 but all of it could be avoided.
No guarantees of course but despite the false promises we have heard from Gazidis and Wenger it isn’t very nice that we are being referred to as a “laughing stock” by many, and many of those are in the know, when it comes to football.
If either of the Manchester clubs win The Title and we are third through to seventh does it really matter, except for revenue lost or gained.
I feel something is happening, a sort of unrest within The Board and between the two biggest share holders. Hopefully I am right and it falls to our advantage, the fans.If Usmanov sold to Kroenke the future would really be bleak unless a new manager was appointed with new ideas but AW won’t be sacked having just beaten the mighty Brighton,WBA, Koln and Bournemouth.
Kelsey,
How many clubs are there in England?
You do realise there’s more to football than the Premier League, right lol
I guess not.
Arsenal run through generations of my family,Scott, I take it personal. If I was born in Ipswich I would be a tractor boy 😉 I know what you meant I was being sarcastic.
Mind you at the rate we are going we might all be taking a look at The Championship instead of the PL
One day perhaps Kelsey, one day but not all the time the Frenchman hires and fires players or coaches them… Not imo anyway…
Don’t imagine that I am happy about it. Other clubs fall into their place and a good season is winning the premier second division I.e 7th to 10th. Our problem is dropping to that level.
Billy Bean loves us though. 🙂
Mr bean more like it
Kelsey, if we hit rock bottom and it saw certain people leave, at least we’d have some positives 🙂 🙂
Still, as with Potter, I’m certainly not happy about the situation.
Thank goodness Adam… 😉
Guess I best try and write something more debatable tomorrow… ?
Normally you can’t go wrong with Stan stuff Rico. 🙂
True Adam, perhaps I should write about his good side…. ?
Yes. The way he rescued the club and is the best thing to have happened for the fans. 🙂
That’ll go down well.
Yeh……..Right!?
Afternoon all and thanks El Rico for reminding us how we have failed miserably since 2004 in the league !
🙂
I wonder if Mansour City, Manshafter and Chavs will ever go 13 years without winning the league with their current owners…………or shall I say 13 years without being competitive as no one has a God given right to win the league, although at a price you can buy it ! hahahaha
Good luck on writing something good about Stan !……………………..I have started myself and below is a list of positives about him…………………….
1) He will eventually die.
? Adam
Night all.
England what a shambles.
Get fit Jack your country needs you.
I noticed that that wonderfully talented footballer Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain continued his excellent Liverpool form in an England shirt.
Roll on Russia 2018 zzzzzz
Arsenal need him more Rick. He needs to prove he hasn’t got serious underlying genetic problems physically, then we would have a good player on our hands instead of an expensive sicknote.
As for England, what a boring game. At least the country won’t get it;s hopes up for the World Cup, we have no chance as usual.
Only watched from 64th minute to 84 the (pub) but it was just like watching the Arsenal, crab football, no spark and little ability on display. England are the new Arsenal.
And, as for the Ox I hope he realises the gross error of team change he has made. Another Arsenal ex player who is destined to rue the advice he was given. Still, you reap what you sow!
England make Arsenal look classy… ?
Morning all.
New post up.
