Nine b****y months! Arsenal going for Lukaku makes sense but does Guirassy?

Morning all.

My heart goes out to Danny Welbeck, it really does. Having only returned from injury a few weeks ago, he’s out for another nine months which means we won’t see him in an Arsenal shirt again until early 2017!

Darn! What is it about Arsenal and injuries?

When you look back at seasons gone by, we’ve suffered so many, so much so you could say that they’ve cost a Premier League title or two.

2008 was probably the worst, certainly for Eduardo and Arsenal. A cruel and viscous tackle by Martin Taylor ended his season and pretty much his Arsenal career because he was never the same again, not really. From flying high in the league at the time, we faded away, just as we have this season after suffering so many injuries, albeit nowhere near in the same fashion in which we lost the Brazilian back then….

In 2010 though, Aaron Ramsey fell victim of another brutal tackle, this time by Ryan Shawcross. A double leg break, followed by a sending off and the Welshman was out for a very long time. His injury didn’t contribute to Arsenal falling away that season as we weren’t in the title race.

Then there’s Jack Wilshere and Tomas Rosicky, both who have been missing for more games than they’ve played, well, it certainly feels that way. Walcott too but for him, his form and attitude plays a big part in him not playing although he did seem up for the game last weekend when he came on and I feel he made a difference.

This season, the league was ours for the taking, despite the lack of summer signings but losing Santi Cazorla for so long hit us hard, as did the loss Francis Coquelin, Alexis Sanchez and even Walcott and the Ox. Wilshere, Welbeck and Rosicky have missed the entire season too, all players who allow rotation throughout the squad. Captain Mike Arteta missed a vast chunk of the season too and he’s been missed, if only for his calming leadership qualities….

But back to Danny Welbeck. There’s no hiding his injury this time around and unlike last summer, the club have been honest and open. Perhaps that’s because the England manager needed to know as he was expected to be heading to the Euros.

Arsenal, well, Arsene Wenger has no choice now but to sign a striker this summer. In fact I’d go as far to say he needs two because Giroud really doesn’t do it for me, despite him being our highest goal scorer. Just think about how many chances he’s missed. Not only a striker or two though, not if Arsene wants a much better reception from the fans than he’s getting right now and he has to get them in early. If Bayern can sort transfers out this early, then so can Arsenal. Be brave, be ambitious an don’t be frugal. Be ruthless too, tell certain players they aren’t good enough for our club and get rid. RvP jumped ship because Arsenal weren’t ambitious enough, they simply can’t afford to lose Alexis and Ozil in similar fashion.

The transfer rumours usually name a few goodies this time of year as the season ticket holders mull over whether to renew or not and the back pages aren’t failing this time around either. Granit Xhaka seems to be the favourite and if we are to believe what’s written, only personal terms with the player need to be agreed. The good thing is Xhaka has been quoted as saying money isn’t the bee all and end all which is a good job really because another Arsenal target, Jordan Lukaku has been quoted as saying ‘Arsenal need to stop being so stingy’. Signing another left-back makes real sense, although I’ve never seen the Belgian play, he already plays for his country so he can’t be that bad.

Meanwhile, over in France, a young 20 year old called Sehrou Guirassy is being linked with a summer move to Arsenal. He’s out on loan from Lille right now and he’s so good, he’s got his own wikki page, albeit just one sentence of information on him. Guirassy is just under 6′ 2″ tall, he’s French and was born in the same year Arsene Wenger became Arsenal manager. Not sure if he’s sticking to playing for France or has opted to represent the Ivory Coast. He could be the next big thing but then again, he may not…

The Sun, oh I love the sun, not the newspaper of course, but the real thing, well they suggest a whopping £80 million will see Arsenal sign Granit Khaka, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Alvaro Morata! Just what are they smoking? Those three would cost more than that wouldn’t they?

Anyway, it’s all good fun I guess but I just hope that for once, some of these silly rumours become a reality, regardless of who the manager is next season.

So Forbes has us valued at £1.4bn, 5th in the world rankings……….let’s fucking act like it this summer for a change?

  2. rico says:

    🙂 Adam.

I’m fed up with moaning too and it get’s us nowhere, I’d love AW to go big in the summer because then, we’ll see just what he does with a proper squad, one which we all go ‘wow, at last’…

🙂 Wath, if you get one, I want one too..

Morning Andrew, agree, from the moment he went over you just knew eh… Really sad for him…

  4. rico says:

There has to something seriously wrong at Arsenal re the injuries..

Training, diet, pitches, goodness only knows, but something has to be wrong…

  5. allezkev says:

‘Arsene Wenger has no choice but to sign a striker’….

Well yes he does Rico, good post btw, and he could keep Walcott and promote Alpom.

He’s done it before, so it wouldn’t surprise me if he did it again…

The more that he is ‘told’ by pundits, journalists and co, the more likely he is to do the opposite…

    That’s what Arsene does…

    We need a centre-back, he’ll sign a midfielder,
    we need a striker, he’ll sign a full-back.
    It’s how he rolls…

So when I read ‘Arsenal in £80 million swoop for three players’ and all that jazz, I just laugh…

  6. rico says:

Kev, I get what you are saying because that’s exactly what AW has done in the past but he won’t get away with any more and with all the stuff going on off the pitch with the fans, he’d be bloody stupid to think otherwise.

I really can’t see Akpom staying, nor Walcott really… And I sure as heck hope Sanogo isn’t the guy considered to be good enough…

  7. allezkev says:

Ah yeah Lee, who could ever forget, I’m singing now as I sit on the rank at Grosvenor Square…

” I’ve got you, under my skin, I’ve got you, deep in the heart of me”…

    Wish I was sunbathing… ?

  8. allezkev says:

I know exactly what you are saying Rico, but we’re talking about Arseen here and he a stubborn man of stubbornly stubborn proportions.

Nothing he does in the summer would surprise me, like a one year deal for Flamini or Arteta or even Rosicky.
A new deal for Sanogo, you know the way he works…

    All together now;

” I’ve got you, under my skin” ?

  9. Lee says:

Brudder I was thinking, “It’s been a very good year!” or “Summer wind” or “The best is yet to come” 😉

  10. Ben says:

    Morning all,
Re the injuries, apparently we have had a lot less number of injuries this season than previous seasons. It’s just the magnitude of them that has been quite severe. So in a sense we’ve been a bit unlucky( a tired excuse I know) that the major injuries have been non-muscular but impact apart from maybe Alexis.
Am not counting Wilshere, Ramsey, Arteta who are perma-crocks and we should cut our losses and sell while we still can.

  11. Wavy says:

Welcome back Rico to the world of cyber gossip.

De Boer has left Ajax. Could he be headed this way or is old Arsene going to stricken it out long enough to let d Boer find another ‘project’. I mean the old sod has seen all his likely successors find other lucrative positions all around Europe. So, I guessing he’s going nowhere until his contract expires, or he does! Sorry bad taste that.

Kev you’ve got it right again. No new players this summer as we have enough! Project youth is still a work in progress, but it shouldn’t determine who is bought or not bought, it should supplement and feed the first team, it should not become the team’s sole provider.

Anyway we shall soon see whether the ancient one is going ‘full term’ or whether he’s had enough and he’s about to pass the baton on…….de Boer perhaps or some other worthy who none of us have ever heard of! Has Kalou taken his badges yet? Or even Darren Bent? He could be ace.?

Morning all. Sunny and bright here, thank goodness.

  12. rico says:

    Less injuries Ben, I’m surprised…

    Walcott
    Ox
    Santi
    Le Coq
    Merts
    Kos
    Gibbs
    Arteta
    Alexis
    Welbeck
    Rosicky
    Wilshere
    Bellerin
    Merts
    Cech

All have been injured at some stage, if not more… 😉

  13. rico says:

Thanks wavy, I felt like I was in ‘I’m a celebrity’ for just one day.. 😉

Just read that about de Boer, looks like he’s off to Everton though. Shame really..

  14. rico says:

After Debuchy going out on loan so he could prove himself for the Euros, he’s suffered an injured and will miss them anyway… I know I shouldn’t chuckle, but….. 😉

  15. rico says:

Agree Brad, and now they have a man with money, they’ll probably do quite well next season with de Boer if he goes there…

  16. tsgh says:

How did Rico get out of the sin bin? I thought she was not getting out until Friday? 🙂

Good to have you back Ms.

    Good read btw.

  17. Wath says:

Spot on Lee… oink oink oink……. washed down with a little of the red stuff of course…… No, not ribena Rico…!

  18. Lee says:

    Name the footballer:

He’s played for two PL clubs…
one of which won the PL (he wasn’t there then) and the other are no longer an PL club.

He’s won 69 caps for his country scoring 6 goals He’s won the champions league.
He’s been his country’s player of the year 6 times, last in 2008.
& He’s currently playing for a European capital city team.

    Who is he?

  19. goonster says:

Hey ts what did I tell you partner? I told you a while back that we ll either get one of granit xhaka or toni kroos. So wish it was kross but hey xhaka is an unbelievable footballer plus he’s a nutter too. Been a while we had a nasty big bastard in our side. Sign him up arsene.

  20. goonster says:

Howdy rico your boy theo off to the hammers huh? What are your thoughts? Good bargain or foreboding? Mine is the latter. Theo ll come back and haunt us. We ll pay dearly for it. God help us all.

  21. Le Coq Monster says:

I`m hopeless at these quizzes Lee !………………….cant you give us some extra clues like…..what country is he from, who we bought him from, who we sold him to, what shirt number did he wear and whats his initials ?.

  22. rico says:

Hi Goonster, looks like he could be off doesn’t it. It’ll be interesting to see what he’s like under different coaching..

  23. goonster says:

He ll be a beast rico. I shudder to think what he would have become under a different manager and tactics. Trust me west ham ll get the best out of Walcott. Mark my words.

  24. tsgh says:

🙂 Rico. A bit unfair. I thought one was always forgiven if they told the trutrh…

🙂 Goonie. I am never jealous. I only bash ox.my only virue plus posting real stats.
Xhaka has always been my preferred option from Bundesliga. I will take Weigl as well.. another name who will become big next season in the uCL.

  25. goonster says:

Whatever Lee 😀 you won’t say that when he starts the new season on Fire I ll bet. Tiki taka one touch football isn’t for Walcott. Quick breaks and counter attacking football is his bread and butter. He ll excel under bilic and we ll be made to look stupid for it. Watch this space. Walcott ll silence many next season.

  26. tsgh says:

How did I guess that Lee…

    Is there a prize? lol

Rico he Hleb was in the team that beat us in the league cup…

  27. goonster says:

So ts if we succeed in nabbing xhaka what ll be your midfield look like??? Mine ll be xhaka elneny and santi for home games and xhaka coquelin and santi for away games.

  28. tsgh says:

🙂 Is Turkey in Europe or Asia? With less than 5% of turkey in Europe and Ankara being outside that 5%…

    Semantics. 😛

  29. goonster says:

Lol so you think mahrez ll succeed where many has failed? You crack me up lee. 6 games into the new season and he ll be hurled off with a broken fibula. You know how teams tend to go overboard when tackling our players. Mahrez ll be broken in half if he plays for us. Not with the endless tiki taka. He ll render him useless. Lol

  30. Lee says:

Walcott’s got the touch of a rapist, couldn’t trap a bag of cement…. give me a Griezmann or Reus any day of the week, proper footballers not sprinters in football boots!

The bar has been set so low at Arsenal we blow smoke up shite player’s arses….. 😆

  31. tsgh says:

    What about King Ozil?

Do you think he will leave?

I will go with Xhaka and SC19/Ramsey as pivote away and play Elneny and Xhaka at home for a new counter attacking play…

My reason is that our possession football works away from home but not at home…

  32. goonster says:

Lee I agree with your but as long as we stick to this tiki taka nonsense we won’t be wining squat. Put ozil in that leceister team and he ll double theirry’s assist record in less than 30 games. Our game is boring laborious and energy sapping. We need to ditch it in order to do well next season. If he’s staying (seems like it) he should also do away with the backroom. A new approach requires new ideas and fresh faces. Am so bored of tiki taka crabby side to side footie.

  33. goonster says:

Ts you and I know ozil is off. That’s him gone. Xhaka to soften the blow. Wait for it.

  34. rico says:

    You’re on form Lee. 😉

If we look at the youngsters AW has signed, have any really improved? I’d say no and that’s down to coaching imo…

  35. goonster says:

Ts xhaka and Ramsey won’t work imho. Both are too similar to play together plus we need to win the ball faster in the opposition’s half. Coquelin and xhaka hunting in packs ll make the epl sit and and take note. I want Ramsey no where near the first 11. He makes me want to stab a pencil into my eye socket when I watch him. He’s so inept it hurts. Silly twat thinks he’s good enough for barca. Hahahahahahah deluded much.

  36. Lee says:

Wenger’s fault totally, if he’s complemented Ozil with a Suarez type striker we would of pissed the league and Ozil would be staying at Arsenal…..the lamp post Giroud in front of him! lol

  37. tsgh says:

    Coquelin is no good;
He can’t read the game at all…

Xhaka and Coq are both reactional CDM.

Xhaka and Dahood work well because Dahoud reads the ball very well. But not Mong’bach mostly play 3 at the back with our old boy Nordveit acting as a sweeper or covering Xhaka when he pushes up…

Did you see Aranaguiz is back and scoring goals from deep midfield…

What has happened to Kramer? His form has been off this season

  38. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Evening Lovelies and Hunkies.

So many names being bandied about. its that time isnt it? I feel devastated for Danny, but better now than in September after the TW closes. I hope that AW does not see Akpom as the answer.

How about this stat…… Arsenal have scored two goals or more on 21 occasions already this season, the joint-most of any Premier League side. 21 games out of 38 in which we have scored two or more. Therefore the problem is the defence during those games, and the attack during the remaining 17 games.

  39. Rick says:

    Afternoon Rico and the House
Wow you know a nice BT engineer Rico send him down south please it takes
4 days to reach me. I gather mine comes via Heathrow.

Reiss Nelson has given England the lead in the U17’s (Euro’s) match against Denmark. So far he has scored 9 times for England in 2016

  40. tsgh says:

Hey Dev… you know its still OG12’s fault. 🙂

If he doesn’t score I wonder why the others do not score…
I always say we have too many players who go through similar barren spells.

Even AS17 goes through barren spells after December especially between late Jan and March..

OG12 we know goes through 2 set of patches where he does not score for 7 to 9 games…

This season he shortened his first barren spell and extended his 2nd barren spell…

    Theo is always Theo.

In the bigger games its always the midfielders who can score; even in the UCL, the likes of PSG, Bayern, city having strikers not scoring affected them…

  41. goonster says:

Lol ts did you just say lecoq can’t read the game? That’s preposterous. He lacks ball retention skills yes and is erratic sometimes but he doesn’t read the game? Come on ts that’s a fallacy.

  42. Rick says:

Feel gutted for Danny just when it looked like he was coming good .
One of our youngsters has also suffered a bad injury in the U17’s
Playing for Romania against Italy he has a badly cut shin and a serious ankle injury it dosn’t sound so good.

  43. tsgh says:

Lol.. even AW is not playing him recently…; you cant tell me its because Aw does not rate Coquelin when AW said last season ‘Le coq was worth £25m+’. paraphrasing…

We debated about the importance of Le Coq to the team and I always said Sc19 made coq look much better than he was…

Compare the number of goals we scored when Sc19 was not in the team to the defense when Coq wasn’t in team…

When Coquelin is in the team we score less goals.

Oh and Coquelin has the best passing accuracy 91% +… most being 2 yard passes. Any passes beyond 10 yards goes astray…

We do not play a man marking system so Coquelin adds nothing to our attacking play…

All Coquelin does is make Ozil and AS17 play much deeper and isolate our main striker (if OG12) even more upfront. Analysis shows he does play further ahead when we have the ball as he cant create. What works for him is his speed to recover.

His defensive success pales in comparison to Arteta/AR16 stats of 2 years ago. When one compares Coq’s starts of last season to last november to Kante’s stats this season Kante is far better in all areas apart from the passing accuracy success…

Basically he is a slight improvement on Flamini . Imho of course.

  44. goonster says:

Lol arsene wenger doesn’t rate Campbell neither what does that tell you. Come on man. Let’s not go there. Santi and coquelin double pivot worked well last season because santi complemented coquelin. I ll love to see santi play with another player for a considerable amount of time to make an assertion. But knowing from history santi ll be exposed if not for coquelin!!!

  45. tsgh says:

Goonie, your video proves my point. He reacts to play. It works against average EPL players but in UCL where players dive he struggles.

Moreover, your video has Coq playing his best football at LB up to 3 mins mark. the next 2 minutes shows him remonstrating.. the rest shows him making very solid tackles but as I said he is reacting to play.

    Watch this. a proper CDM

  46. goonster says:

Ts i love how you go grab a stat to butress your point. Lol you ll never change mate. The video’s there for you to watch. Stats can be deceiving. El neny broke the record for number of touches in a game in the epl this season but no one ever mentions most of those passes where sideways or backwards. Don’t get me wrong I love a stat or 2 but I prefer video evidence ts 😀

  47. tsgh says:

AW and Campbell was always political…

And Campbell wants to play through middle not on the wing; The question is, is JC good enough currently to play upfront on his own?
    Xhaka’s video

  48. goonster says:

See what he did there rico he brought up makelele. Lol. Arguably the best DM that ever lived. I love you ts 😀 comparing coquelin to claude. Lol this guy.

  49. goonster says:

Ts only arsene wenger ll play rams ahead of coquelin and you know it. Lol. Ramsey is erratic in possession. Runs like he just crapped himself and those back heels??? Grrr. He had a half a season where everything he touched turned to gold and all of a sudden he’s Barca bound? Don’t make me laugh ts. Lol

  50. tsgh says:

lol Goonie. Ok no more stats.

And Xhaka is the left footed CDM AW has been looking for since 2004.

And you cant tell me Coq is what we need when a younger Weigl is far better in all departments insomuch as he has displaced Bender.

  51. goonster says:

If he’s so good how come he can’t replicate the same form since 2013??? He’s shit ginge. Admit it. Lol

  52. goonster says:

Ts the discussion was not with weigl or any cdm you prissy old twit. It was between Ramsey and coquelin!!! Christ in heaven. Lol

  53. tsgh says:

My argument is we score less goals with Coquelin in team…

I know it AW knows it; reason AW is not playing him when AW thinks we need goals…

It makes more sense to play AR16 in team as he is our highest scoring midfielder and has been for 3 years now…

  54. goonster says:

We play coquelin because we had no combative midfielder. We both know he’s a limited player and yes he restricts our game but I ll rather score less goals and win the league than pound most teams to submission and win FUCK all. You are a huge atleti fan aren’t you?? How many goals have they scored this season and where are they currently? Thought so. Lol

  55. goonster says:

Plus you tend to forget he broke into the team because of injuries to key players. He hasn’t been called up to the French squad and that says a lot but Ramsey a better partner for xhaka than coquelin??? It’s a big HELL NO.

  56. tsgh says:

Ramsey may be shite but he is our highest scoring midfielder… and only chance of scoring in midfield. 🙂

I agree AR16’s defensive play has been shocking recently.
It appears like AR16 he fails to go to ground and so he is the most dribbled past player amongst Coquelin and Elneny.

Apart from that his interception is better than Coq and attempts more tackles as well.

Ramsey worked well with Sc19 and MA08 because both could read the game; if an attacker when past Ramsey they would sweep the play…

Youtube videos look nice with 2 footed tackles etc. Even Frimpong looks world class tackling in 10 minutes compilations. 🙂

  57. rico says:

The last few matches, Ramsey has barely made a tackle, I think it was the Norwich game he made none! As said earlier, I’d sell him…. If Barca want him, they can have him… Lol

  58. tsgh says:

Goonie your 5:51pm is true on paper.

But explain to me why we conceded only 1 goal less than Leicester but they they have 12 more points. They also scored only 7 more goals…

Its because we score more than 2 goals in games when we are winning by more than 2 goals and score no goals when we need it because we do not create enough contrary to Ozil’s stats etc…

  59. goonster says:

Lol coquelin was out for a considerable amount of time ts. When we lost him santi and Sanchez in a spate of 2 weeks our season went tits up. Come on man. You re blaming coquelin for goals conceded when he was out injured? Lol

  60. goonster says:

And ts if you don’t shoot….you don’t score. It’s simple logic. Totenham and leceister has the most shots on goal in the epl this season. We on the other hand want to walk the ball into the net. Lol

  61. rico says:

Agree Goonie. It’s all about perfect football but it doesn’t work. We don’t play great football any more and we never will all the time we don’t have quick and good wingers and a proper striker who doesn’t run like a tortoise….

  62. tsgh says:

The whole 1-0 to the Arsenal passed to with the GG era…

Football has changed. The only team to do that was Chelsea in 2005 by conceding only 15 times; we conceded 36 times same as this season and still finished 12 points behind Chelsea; the same as this season behind Leicester if we both score and concede same goals on the weekend.

That season we score 15 more goals than Chelsea but we lost 5 more times than they did…

Its the same we score more in games that does not matter…

  63. tsgh says:

    Lol goonie.

Rico its not as simple as best defence or best attack.

Tottenham have scored 7 more goals than us this season and one less than Leicester.

We have 68 pts they have 70points.

Man city has scored the most goals 70 but are 17 points behind LCFC.

City have scored 3 more goal than Leicester as well…

We and Leicester both drew 11 times; whilst the spud drew 13 times

The difference between other teams and LCFC is that they were able to score in almost every game.

Man u have the best defence but failed to score when it matters in most games; something Leicester did very well…

There is no point in winning 4-1 against Watford and LCFC like we do and then lose the next game against Southampton.

On paper if we could have scored one less in those games and taken those 2 goals into another game we would be comfortably 2nd…

  64. rico says:

I know that Ts, honest. And I’m not into all the the other stuff like stats etc, or other clubs, not really….

I only really care about how Arsenal play….

  65. rico says:

But it’s true Goonie, why judge Arsenal by other clubs stats etc? At the end of the day, we might come third or fourth…

  66. Micko says:

rico, we had a tortoise as a kid and if you turned your eye on him he was gone in a flash, he was hard work as well !

  67. Obi says:

Ts I think you are missing the point and Goonie got a point. Stats and U-tube videos aside, Coq is a very good reader of the game if you watch him carefully. The problem is his reaction after he sniff out the danger, so it comes out as he is reacting. Many of his tackles occurs when he is covering for another player. Even in the tackle that got him the red card, he reads the play (Bellerin had bombed forward, Merts was slow as usual getting back and Gabrielle takes a wider angle with the spud player on his backside and another in the middle) but there was no need for him to slide he could’ve just stood there.

  68. allezkev says:

Wavy, we’ve been here so many times before…
    Tbh, I’m just bored now.

So yeah, I don’t expect fcuk all in the summer, it’ll just be the same old shit.

What was the name of that song by the Who, “We won’t get fooled again” or something like that…

Well I won’t believe anything next season, I don’t care how well we play or if we’re 59 points in front by Christmas, because under Wenger we’re still likely to fcuk it up…

  69. potter says:

Another two years , another two years , theyr’e gonna offer, another two years. !!!!!

And on the day that the season ticket reminders were sent out.. It’s almost as if they want the dissenters to get the hump and leave so that they can have a nice peaceful time raking in the cash.

  70. potter says:

Did you know thast there used to be an official Arsenal chat room . It thrived for about 3 years and then they closed it when they felt the topics were getting too close to home and criticism of the manager and the board began to take priority over everything else. It spawned into the AFC forum which has struggled to keep going but many of the original participants try to keep it alive . However it was a typical Arsenal move , when the going got tough they swept it under the carpet and hoped it would go away but it keeps coming back.

I suppose it wasn’t Wenger offering himself a new 2yr deal….. another 3 years of income stream for the syrup I guess!

  72. allezkev says:

Tbh Rico, I doubt that you’re surprised, because I certainly am not. ?

It was always on the cards, if there was any chance of him leaving, then the club would have been talking to other managers and word would have got out as it always does…

  73. rico says:

I’m not at all surprised Kev, it’s just laughable really. Arsenal are just a joke and I wish Kroenke would grow a pair…

  74. Lee says:

My Arsenal mojo has really taken a battering after that news about Le failure getting an extension……. I really can’t be bothered with anything Arsenal anymore!!

Arsenal PLC are still highly profitable and the share price keeps climbing under the Wenger stewardship, no need for a change.
So 2017 Wenger criteria: Bullshit media spin for season ticket holders, zero net spend, sell t shirts on tour, make top 16 of UCL for tv and gate income and finish top 4.

Arsene Wenger believes two of his Arsenal stars, Jack Wilshere and Theo Walcott, should be on the plane to France as part of Roy Hodgson’s England squad for Euro 2016.

The Three Lions are poised to name their preliminary squad on Monday following the conclusion of the Premier League at the weekend.

And Wenger hopes that Walcott is picked despite the attacker’s lack of form over recent months for the Gunners.
The Frenchman believes the 27-year-old can do a job for England despite his poor form this season
He told reporters: ‘I think he should go. He has gone through a bad spell. He has had a difficult period but in the last month, he has come back very strong.

‘He could be a positive surprise for England. He will be here next season.’

The above was in the Daily Mail.

Arsene Wenger says reports that he has been offered a new contract are completely false.

The Times reported yesterday that Stan Kroenke is willing to give the Frenchman a new two-year contract on the proviso the 66-year-old pledges his future to the club before October.

Wenger, who joined the club nearly 20-years ago, is out of contract at the end of next season and says he’s completely committed to seeing out his current deal.

Speaking on Friday ahead of Arsenal’s final league game of the season against Aston Villa, the boss reacted angrily to the latest media rumour-mongering.

Here’s a transcript of the relevant responses, you can make your own mind up.

    ___

[Questions posed by Nick Collins, Sky Sports News]

You’ve still got one year left on your contract, there are reports that you’re to be offered a two-year extension to that…

That’s completely wrong and I don’t know where this information comes from. You can treat that as just an invention. It’s absolutely false.

    OK…

And I would like this press to check the information before they give it out because they could have checked with the club or with myself and we’d both have denied it.

    Is that something you’d like though? A two-year extension…

No. I think about the next game you know. At my stage you want to do well. I’m committed with integrity and commitment, full commitment for the club, as long as I’m under contract. At the moment that’s all.

    ___

[Questions posed by James Olley, The Evening Standard]

I know you’ve knocked down the contract story, but will it make it harder to sign players if they don’t know whether you’re going to be here beyond next season?

    I don’t think so. I hope not.

Have you decided what you will do, privately, beyond next season?

    No.

    What will determine that?

What I focus [on] is to respect my contract and after [I’ll] envisage what I do after. I can understand that people are interested in that but that’s not the most important. I think I’ve extended my contract at a period when it was vital for the club and after that I will see where I am personally and where the club stands at the end of my contract.

So, to rephrase that slightly…what happens next season will determine whether you stay or not?

Of course, yeah. You sum it up very well.
