Naughty Jack Wilshere should be released and playing Lehmann would be all wrong…..

Naughty Jack, who has been given a telling off by his boss for partying and drinking too much is to stay with the England squad for the mid-week fixture against Ghana!

Double standards I say and it pees me off big time, why is it that the likes of Rooney, Terry, Dawson, Cole and Lampard all get released from the England squad and our Jack Wilshere isn’t? I don’t care that the above players are still in the Champions League, Jack is still very young, his bones don’t need to be playing in another stupid friendly, we need him fit for our challenge in the Premier League which is far more important..

It’s wrong and maybe the FA should ask themselves why they need a friendly at this time of the season, they have just been all together for a week for a Euro qualifier haven’t they?

Talking of big decisions, speculation is rife that Mad Jens will start against Blackburn instead of Almunia. I for one believe this would be a fatal error by Arsene Wenger.

Yes, Almunia made a huge error against West Brom when he gifted them their second goal but Chesney and Koscielny made a very similar error in the Carling Cup Final which lost us the game but had both been fit for the next game, would either have been dropped? My guess to that answer is no.

Ok, many will say Almunia has let us down many times before and that is true but if he gets dropped for a ‘out of retirement’ 41 year old, what will that do to him? What happens then if Jens gets injured, how would Almunia come back after that…..?

If we believe what we read about Almunia and our goal keeping situation then Arsene Wenger tried to sign both Mark Schwarzer and Pepe Reina last summer but as so often with Wengers ‘targets’, neither arrived at Arsenal .

Then Fabianski, who some thought would start the season as number one, had a nightmare in a friendly pre-season and Almunia was subsequently handed the gloves for the opening game of the season against Liverpool.

His lack of ability again allowed Liverpool to score and we drew the game. This was followed by another howler, again against West Brom when we lost 3-2 at The Emirates. All this time he knew Wenger had been trying to bring in a replacement.

Confidence building, I don’t think so…..

Almunia was then ‘injured’.

January came and according to reports, Almunia was allowed to return home to Spain and he believed he was a finished man at Arsenal. Reports suggest he had found himself a new club in Besiktas but right at the last-minute Arsenal pulled the plug when Fabianski picked up an injury.

Fair on Almunia? I don’t think so.

Don’t get me wrong, I really don’t rate Almunia but if the reports are true, Arsenal have been a tad naive. We now have a goal keeper starting each week who knows that the club really don’t rate him yet stopped him finding happiness elsewhere.

Now he knows his position in under threat again, to a 41-year-old who wasn’t ‘that’ good at the peak of his game…

Arsene Wenger made a huge mistake in my opinion the day that Mad Jens retired, he sat back and thought that Fabianski or Almunia were ready to take over. Almunia certainly wasn’t and never will be and the jury is still out on Fabianski but age is on his side.

So yet again we in a situation where just one signing could have made a difference to this season, in fact had he replaced Jens when he should, that signing could have made a difference to the last few seasons I’m sure.

Great goal keepers are match winners, they can save a good few points during a season.

We all know that – Why doesn’t Arsene Wenger?

That’s it for today, have a good one all…..

can you state which or what cup arsenal won with alumina between the sticks, let us have another person to hell with alumina and his confidence.

  2. rico says:

    morning WATH, and a few plates…. 😉

Naffed off over all this Wilshere stuff, see Pearce now wants him in the u21’s…

Wenger needs to sort this out big time or Jack’s going to do a Theo and be burned out…

  3. W.A.T.H says:

It’s a fuckin joke, these pricks need to realise who pays his wages and the fact he’s young still growing and needs a break they wanna fuck him up before he’s 21….! Pure greed and selfishness from the FA as usual and the dicks at England HQ…!

  4. W.A.T.H says:

Morning Lee, yep and it’s what we were chatting about the other day, far to many earning much more than they worth instead of mapying quality players a bit more to join us we pay loads far to much…! a very weird and stupid policy, talk about waste of money…!

  5. rico says:

    Morning Lee..

Wonder how much of that is being paid to the kids too, so many of which will never be good enough for Arsenal…

  6. Lee says:

Something needs to be done, it’s fcking joke…project youth isn’t working, so bin the dross/sick notes , get some of our youngsters back and add a spine!! Or b) another summer of linking us with loads of players and nothing happen!!!

  7. rico says:

Project youth is ok if it’s mixed with a project ‘here and now’ i’m all for keeping the future looking good but not at the expense of todays game…. and certainly not pauing craps kids big money….

Thats where wenger is mucking up big time, we need the likes of Jack, Rambo etc but we need a few big guns for them to be learning from too….

  8. W.A.T.H says:

We need to spot paying players lots of money who have proved nothing Lee and then we stick em on 5yr contracts on 20k a week and they not even in the first team squad… what crap is that..?

  9. El tel says:

Mad Jens wasn’t (that) good in his prime. Areyou sure. IMO he is the best keeper we have had.

Seaman was good but always had a gaff in him, especially in finals. jeans also had to follow in big Daves footsteps. Not easy. Jens also was a massive part in the Invincibles team and saved us on many occasions.

I would rather have Bob Wilson in goal than Coco the Clown the Tapas bar waiter.

  10. Lee says:

WATH/Rico…can you give me some ball park numbers to some of the squad salaries…i presume cesc is top on 100k….all the under performers neeed to be told you are playing for your arsenal careers, you’ve got 9 matches off you go!!

  11. rico says:

    Lee,

i can’t i’m afraid, i’m not sure how much they get paid if i’m honest – all i know its the bits i pick up from those blogging… 🙁

I’m with you on the 9 matches to show what you have or get out….. mind you, how long have they had already??

Rosicky, Randall, Diaby, Denilson, Almunia and Bendy have all had it in my book…..

  12. Lee says:

But it seems we’ve got loads of youth players on good dough, and if they’re not gonna make it, we gotta ship em out and re invest funds in the quality that this teams been crying out for!!

  13. rico says:

    Hi El Tel…

I didn’t think Jens was ‘that’ good, certainly better than what we have had since him but….

  14. W.A.T.H says:

Spot on Lee, the problem is with a lot of fringe players who are on good money and long term deals and as have yet done nothing to warrant such good wages. We also have a lot of average players on good money and very few on really big money, AA, RVP and Cesc are the highest paid. As Rico says get rid of the ones she has mentioned add a few more for good measure and cut teh wage bill stop rewarding failure and give youth players a contract but make it incentive based and performance based so they don’t think they’ve made it at 18 cos they on 10k a week in the reserves…!

  15. rico says:

Agrre with your last too Lee, why pay kids who are cack now, but then wyh are we paying D&D and Almunia a wage 😉

  16. oliver says:

morning all…we have seen this we theo before and it didn’t work out. if pearce wants to call jack up, there is little we will be able to do about it. shame, really, because such a decision would be more about pearce’s cv than jack’s development.

this is a fairly easy fix – if an u21 player is called up to the senior squad and features in a competitive match, his u21 days are over – period. that would prevent these sort of squabbles from happening.

jack has apparently been quoted saying he wants to go to denmark with the 21’s this summer – he should have spoken to theo first…i understand he is young and feels he is superman, but he needs to rest at some point…we won’t get that rest by playing in a tournament he is too advanced for…

  17. W.A.T.H says:

Will are you free Saturday mate, if so bring along ur keepers gloves we having a kick about at a place called the Ems stadium at 5pm…! we’ll supply the kit…!

  18. Will says:

I have just given up on keepers. EVERYONE knew in the summer we needed an experienced keeper. EVERYONE knew in January that we needed a keeper. Did Wenger get one? No.

    So now I don’t care.

  19. Steve Palmer says:

    Morning all,
Not often i dissagree with you rico, but with Jack playing for England, i must admit if i had been in jacks position i would have loved to have played for my country, at any level. He’s 19years old with only his first year at this level, and it allows him to be watched by millions of football supporters around the world, and Managers. We see Jacks future at Arsenal, perhaps Jack has other plans, he is currently on 40 odd grand a week, one move could elevate him to super wages, thats what publicity does for you. Its up to Wenger to buy players in and get a team that Jack wants to be a part of, or make no mistake he will be off to pastures new. I do agree with you on Leyman Wenger must have a skrew loose, his to tight to buy a proper goalkeeper and if he puts him in he should be sacked i’de Sack him for signing him up anyway.

  20. rico says:

Hi oliver – one or the other team for me, not both.

Hi Steve, its ok to disagree, i won’t hold it against you 😉 I understand where you are coming from re playing for your country but i just don’t think he should play in a mindless friendly at this stage of the season – we pay his wage and we have a crucial run of games in which we need him…

  21. rico says:

I’ve given up on the keepers too Will, they are both rubbish..

No idea re Chesney oliver, he says he’ll be back before the end of the season though as could JD be…

  22. Steve Palmer says:

I can also see, where your coming from rico,I just dont believe we have what it takes, especially with Jens between the sticks or calamity silly Boll–s

  23. oliver says:

morning rico…until he is between the sticks again, i shall assume he won’t be back.

i think al will start versus blackburn on saturday…rovers have not been playing well lately – although we struggle with them more often than not. united have what i think is a tougher game at upton park, and then a cl tie afterwards…this is – once again – a great opportunity to make some ground up. we have to get three points – even if united do also, we cannot afford to drop two (or three) more, no matter how one looks at it.

  24. W.A.T.H says:

Oliver, prob is B’burn will play hoof ball into our box and we know full well the waiter is terrible with crosses and commanding the pen box….! The alternative is also very scary but again it all boils down to yet again having to blame wenger for being so oblivious to our needs…!

  25. Steve Palmer says:

Hi Oliver, i will do what i always do, support our boys right up to the last game, I will consider this season a victory if we qualify for CL, and even that is not guaranteed, please tell me i’m wrong

  26. oliver says:

steve, we are not qualified yet. i understand we are building towards something and that takes time, but i think it is reasonable to expect us to progress past simply qualifying for next season’s champions league competition. that is what we know how to do – finish in the top four, and we do it every season. it is time to set our sights higher and win something tangible.

  27. SD-London says:

    Hi all,

For those of you rating Wilshere passionately, do not hold your breath because i predict he is going to be a cocky one, with the way he has being indirectly defying Wenger in the media .

He wants to play in the under 21 team which is fine because Wenger has never successfully prevented Walcott from playing for both senior and junior team anyways.

So why should Wilshere now decide to mouth off in the papers.
Wilshere fans should not hold their breath on him because i suspect he might do an Ashley Cole on us one day.

  28. rico says:

They have been poor oliver but they tend to have a stronger second half in them, we know their tactics though and without Chesney and JD i still worry 🙁

  29. rico says:

    Hi SD,

i hope you are wrong about the cole bit but i can see why you would think that way – he should learn from Theo, he played the same media game about england and look what happened to him…

  30. oliver says:

rico, that may have been true in the past, but this united squad is not that good. and we are well into the second half, and i argue that they were much better in the first half of the season, when they didn’t lose a league match. since the start of feb, they have lost three…i don’t think they are going improve signficantly, and will have cup distractions. we can win this, this is really the best chance we have had in a while.

  31. Steve Palmer says:

Must admit, Will&SD the thought had crossed my mind as well.
This was the year, we could have done realy well, when all about us was slagging us as no hopers, but for the lack of key signings at the right time, Wengers has let the club down, and if he stays we will watch it all again next year.A couple of plonkers from God knows where, and probably a blind keeper that needs help to pick up his pension.God help us all.

  32. rico says:

sorry oliver – i meant they play better in the second half of a match, not the season, thats nearly over 😉

I think against west ham in their last game it was all B’burn for the second 45 mins…

  33. SD-London says:

I still strongly believe Ashley Cole didn’t leave for financial reasons, but i believe he left because he wanted the media attention, the partying, Glitz that followed Chelsea players like Lampard and Terry .
    All which Wenger doesn’t encourage.

I am beginning to see traits of the same character in Wilshere.
For some reasons Wilshere is quick to the Twitter(which all teenagers do anyways), Media, papers. Then when an 18yr old player has confidence to defy his 60+ coach in the very disloyal media , Loves partying hard, and he his being recommended to Captain Arsenal one day.

    I smell trouble.

Did anyone see Ramsey’s interview yesterday , he was very nervous which he should be because he is just 20 and given his country’s captainship.
I would be worried if Ramsey had conducted the interview without showing nerves.

Wenger doesn’t appreciate play boy attitude , cockiness , disrespect, or courting the media(Ashley Cole & Gallas ) in his team , I hope Wilshere learns from Ashley’s mistakes because I always wondered if A Cole would have become the most hated player in England if he had left Arsenal the way he did? And the guy is the most consistent and probably the most valuable English player.

  34. agirlagunner says:

Boo! I don’t like that Jack seems to be buying into the English footballer’s lifestyle. It’s very un-Arsenal; as our players tend to be low-key. Reeks of Terry, Shreky, A. Cole et al. Someone should sort Jack out. 🙁

    Back in a bit. 🙂

  35. Steve Palmer says:

As i remember the story about Cashley, he was being touted as the best left back in the world and he probably was at that time. He was a very young player and was on as reported £26 grand a week, and wanted a rise in pay which Wenger had told him he would get, when his contract came up for renewal which was fairly close, Wenger as i remember reading, had promissed him close on double, but when push came to shove he gave him considerable less. with others in the team with wages at that time of eighty ninety grand Cashley thought he was being treated badly, and being as good as he was, started looking further afield, so starting the debackle that followed, Cashley got the bad headlines and the rest is history, and we lost the best left back in the world. Thats what i remember reading, and watching Wenger deal over the years i tend to believe thats the way it happend

  36. rico says:

    Hi agag

I think he’s just being a kid, i hope he’s just being a kid…. Bouldy needs to take him to one side i think….

Steve, sadly, having seen the way wenger works these days, it does seem more likey to the way you describe it but didn’t he meet up with the chavs a while before his contract offer?

Wilshere must avoid pitfalls of fame
    Mar 28 12:47PM

For the first time in a while the press are not on anyone’s back following an England game. Perhaps they could have beaten Wales by more than two goals, but overall the players did their job properly and didn’t allow any opportunity for an upset.
However, it is important not to get carried away by one decent performance against inferior opposition. The next big test in a meaningful match will come when they host Switzerland in June.
Jack Wilshere claimed a lot of the plaudits on his first competitive start, albeit by playing against a midfield which was mostly of Championship standard.
His rapid progress reminds me a lot of Paul Gascoigne’s in the way he has burst on to the scene and into the international reckoning so quickly.
Gazza was talked up a lot before he had really played a truly important game for England, but he went on to prove himself when it mattered. It’s a shame he was never able to maintain that, for various reasons.
I hope Wilshere will be different. He seems like a lad who has got his head screwed on, and Arsene Wenger will certainly not let him go off the rails. But, with his emergence as a big hope for England’s future, he is bound to get a lot of attention and be built up by the British media. For a young man of 19, it might be difficult for him to avoid believing his own hype, but that is what he must do.
His personal life is also going to be under a lot more scrutiny than perhaps a lot of other England players because people will be looking for signs that he will ‘do a Gazza’. He has to be ready for the focus to be on him for reasons other than his football. He will have no say in the matter, but must just accept it and deal with it as best he can.
Gazza was a special case 20 years ago. For the most part none of the other England players at the time received much press attention away from football. I certainly never noticed any difference when I started playing for the national team.
Nowadays, however, it comes with the territory for every top player. Some people are just as interested in what players do off the pitch as they do on it. It’s hard for players to enjoy themselves now, but that is the deal that has to be struck of you want to make it at the highest level.

    any comments?

  38. Steve Palmer says:

JM spot on mate, good piece.
rico, your probably right although i never read that.
    Might bring a smile,
I was in the dry cleaners this morning getting somthing dry cleaned, the assistant asked, when do you want this back, I said, when its been dry cleaned, the assistant said, when do you want it, i said, well i’ll take it now while i’m here then.
Just heard this and it made me smile, what about you.

  39. agirlagunner says:

I certainly hope so, rico. But he’s been involved in a fair few unsavory things, LJ. He needs to be sat down and lectured in no uncertain terms. 😉 Some mandatory corner time, if you will. 😛 Cesc, Theo, Rambo et al. haven’t subscribed to that lifestyle. I hope he doesn’t either.

  40. Steve Palmer says:

Just read your reply again on the Cashly bit rico, just wondered do you ever go in tescos and look at the prices before you go to M&s

  41. SD-London says:

Steve P that was half of the story , before the contract negotiations he was already caught meeting with Morinho in an Hotel.

I think the relationship between him and Wenger went down hill from there. So Wenger offering him 5k less than he asked for was just Wenger sending a message and was definitely ready to let him go.

Do you remember that in just few months after leaving, he made a Beckhams like all white pictures in the Hello magazine(which became the most ridiculous ever- pls google it) , a television series(embarrassing) and wrote a book immediately?

Chelsea fans don’t even sing his name or anything , Gallas’ departure hurt Chelsea Fans more.

I like Wilshere and I am confident that Wenger will tame him, unless he gets a WAG and get delusional about his personality and worth.

  42. agirlagunner says:

Hello, JM, KT, Steve, SD. 🙂

Cashley cashed in on plenty of things. I thought the book was low; I remember he said some very dismissive things about Cesc. He is ick to the nth.

  43. K-TR7 says:

Please stop comparing jack to cashley.he is still a kid after all.not all of them are like theo/cesc.he hasn’t given me a major reason to worry and am sure wenger won’t allow him to misbehave.

  44. SD-London says:

    I am sure K-TR7,

International week has being nothing but dragging and borring cant wait for the league to start.

Got to go see yah next time.

  45. Steve Palmer says:

SD, yes that does ring a bell, but i am still annoyed that he left, he may have been an asewipe but he was also a bloody good left back.
As far as Jacks concerned, he’s not a bad player but he hasnt done enough yet to convince me he is the real deal, to many passes sideways and backwards for me, never seen him hit a shot of value yet, i only remember one header that he scored from, and he definitly is no Cesc, if it came to a choice i would pick Cesc everytime. others may see it different but i think he has a lot more to do for me.

  46. rico says:

Wasn’t the Cole debacle cown to David Dein?? He dealt with the contracts back then didn’t he??

Hi Kt, i don’t think there is any comparison, just i think we worry about his naughtiness off field, hopefully he’ll grow up sooner rather than later….

  47. K-TR7 says:

Hi agag.steve jack makes so many forward passes.he also drives forward alot.when he has no options forward there is no problem with passing it sideways/backwards.xavi/iniesta pass the ball sideways and backwards too.i don’t want to see him hit hollywood passes when a forward pass isn’t really on that would see us waste possession in a sloppy manner.

  48. K-TR7 says:

Of course cesc is superior especially at passing but there are aspects that jack has that are superior to cesc’s because they are totally different players and as a result compliment each other.if you want to compare cesc to someone it should be with rambo.

  49. Steve Palmer says:

Fair point KTR7, but i hav’nt seen enough of Rambo, and what i have seen, i am not that impressed with, hardly a comparison for what Cesc has done for us, in fact as far as i am concerned theres not a player out there that can measure up to Cesc, and if he leaves were left with kids who in my opinion have not shown me they can compare anywhere near as good

  50. agirlagunner says:

KT, There aren’t many players who can compare to Cesc. 😳

Steve, Rambo had been excellent pre-injury. Very composed with the ball, I remember. Has to work on his positioning though.

  51. Steve Palmer says:

Hi Agag, Cesc and Song are the only two in midfield i always want to see in our line up, Cesc the General runs absolutly everything, when he’s fit of course, and Song that will work his socks off for the whole game, his tackleing back is emense and his different to Jack, when he has nobody to pass to, he goes on a powerfull forward run, and finds someone.without them in the team forget it.

  52. K-TR7 says:

Steve i was using rambo since he is our only player along rosicky who play closest to cesc’s style.cesc is undoubtedly superior especially outrageous passing and its in that department that we’ll suffer the most when he leaves.all we can hope is that jack/samir/ramsey will be ready to share responsibility when it happens.

  53. K-TR7 says:

Id argue jack has a tighter first touch and better in one on one sitiuations than cesc.when passing doesn’t work jack bulldozes through which cesc is unlikely to do.jack is also a better defender helping out song.thats why its a perfect combination.

  54. Steve Palmer says:

We all see different things in certain players, i see Cesc put a through ball in and follow up for a return pass, Cesc is in the box waiting to score, i forget the last time i saw Jack Or Rambo in the box, in fact i think i’ve see our full backs in there more, but thats my view.

  55. agirlagunner says:

Song has a very steadying influence on the team, it cannot be denied. Plus AFC is his dream club; he declares it all the time and you can see that he doesn’t want to be anywhere else. I. Like. That.

To hell with Bendy, Arshavin, Diaby and every other player who wants away… Well, maybe not Cesc. 😉

  56. Steve Palmer says:

I agree with you there Agag, i only wish Cesc would actually come out and say if he wants away or not, after watching Barca, with players like they have, and he has to suffer what we have, you couldn’t blame him could you.

  57. K-TR7 says:

Steve cesc is further down in terms of development.remember him at 20?he barely scored even then.plus he is our prime attacking midfielder which means he spends most of his time there.jack has to stay behind or else we’ll get exposed especially with both our fullbacks bombing forward.just let jack/ramsey develop.Wenger said jack is learning the defensive game.he is also learning about how to control the tempo from deep.he is also able to understand the movements of our play from deep so that in case he plays further up he’ll play quickly without dallying as the space is limited there.jack is staying deep for a reason and its best for him now just as it was for ramsey a year ago.

  58. Steve Palmer says:

Lets face it if you were a Scott Parker or A Cahill would you want to join us knowing you would be grouped with Dennilson Bentner Diaby Squilly Lehman Almunia. no me neither. and the chance of Cesc going as well cor blimy

  59. Steve Palmer says:

Ktr7,Wenger also said Theo would be tried down the middle. When.
You are probably right, and i should accept that, but untill all these youngsters have learnt and transformed into superstars why have we still got to suffer the ones that will never improve.

  60. K-TR7 says:

Steve those player would join us in a flash if we made an offer.they’ll see it as an opportunity to play with cesc, rvp, jack, theo,Tv,Arshavin…

  61. Steve Palmer says:

We are playing in what everybody claims is the best league in the world. with players we all know are incompetant. one of the wealthiest clubs in the world and we have had our noses rubbed in it by Barca Man U and loads of others when is that idiot ever going to learn

  62. K-TR7 says:

Steve Wenger may have his faults but his judgement regarding youngsters especially forwards.i don’t think theo is ready to play CF and if he doesn’t think so too he is most likely spot on.

  63. K-TR7 says:

Gibbs is really a crock nowadays.he has suffered a groin injury in U-21 duty.its a shame that since the Emirates cup in 07 he hasn’t really progressed and is becoming a liability.in light of jack’s progression gibbs has been put in the shade.his injuries aren’t certainly helping.

  64. W.A.T.H says:

KT, bit harsh on Gibbs, youngsters mature differently and grow differently, Gerrard was the same when young his bones grew slowly he was always injured and in and out of teh side seems Gibbs is the same at the moment, wait til he’s finished his injuries will suddenly clear up watch..!

  65. rico says:

I’m concerned about his fitness KT but like WATH suggests, he’s still young and still growing, just like Jack – exactly why neither should be over played…

  66. rico says:

Talking of crocks, but this one is an old one – i’m done for the day…

Be good and catch up tomorrow….

Sunny sides at 6am WATH 😉

  67. W.A.T.H says:

You look at Jack though Rico and he’s a different animal to Gibbs, stocky well built and strong thighs which help him ride tackles and with a low centre of gravity, Gibbs is quite a tall skinny bean and very little meat on him yet… needs to fill out and he’ll be fine I reckon.

  68. W.A.T.H says:

I didnt see the majority of the game KT but am told Brazil looked decent enough but then again it was only Scotland and they are crap. I think we need to buy hard solid players we have enough flair players it’s the steel we lacking…! If we not gonna buy English and there are very few i’d actually go and buy or want then I think eastern european players still have the hunger and the mentality to come and play and show the hunger to win. They also hard as iron most of them.

  69. W.A.T.H says:

Hype is a pain KT………… We know what we need, lets hope someone at the club puts things right. We need steel and a couple of big lumps.

  70. K-TR7 says:

For all we know wellington silva may end up being the better player.i remember robinho was supposed to be the ‘next pele+ronaldo’…id take parker right now over neymar.

  71. W.A.T.H says:

I think anyone sensible KT would take any player that we know we need ahead of any of these so called wonderkids….! A Parker, Vidic, Vieira 😉 oh or a Keown 🙂

  72. K-TR7 says:

The media hype was also huge on dzeko and mertsacker.i had watched both before and i maintained they were just average.
