Mourinho sneered: “There are managers who did not win anything for 10 years …”

Written by Merlin96

A “fly-by-night” operator who did not last more than 5 consecutive seasons in his tenure. A man who cunningly bought his way to success with an unlimited budget and then ran like a rat when he sensed the ship was sinking. None better than proven during his 2nd stint with Chelsea when he was unable to buy himself out of the doldrums he’d created in the dressing room.

There is no comparison between Wenger and Mourinho, they are like chalk and cheese.

If you want instant success, none are better than Mourinho and Guardiola but both will leave within 4 years and leave their club in the lurch when the going gets tough.

Like Ferguson, Wenger is unique in his way of management with both taking different paths to successes.

Ferguson was lucky as he had a golden generation in Fergie fledglings and bought Cantona, the catalyst who gelled Fergie fledglings into serial winners. And with an almost bottomless pit to buy any players, no matter what the cost, Ferguson has the complete backing of the Management to do that and his policy continues with an astute Glazer family who knew that successes on the pitch will generate commercial and broadcasting revenues which outweigh the investment in marquee players.

Wenger was a “one-hit” wonder when he was ahead of the pack in grabbing world-class French players during their 1990s’ golden generation, and thereafter, suffered a long decline without any meaningful academy product(s) breaking into senior team akin to French Spine.

This deficit was compounded by the Board which comprises of bean-counters watching the bottom-line and demanded that Wenger toed the line to ensure Arsenal FC is a “self-sustainable” model during the decade-long period of Emirates Stadium construction.

Silent Stan blew in, and again, he is no better than an investment manager protecting his investments and demanded growth of xx% per annum whilst keeping a tight lid on expenditure. And yet under such severe restrictions, Arsene Wenger managed, and still manages, to keep Arsenal FC competitive, in its 19th successive season in Champions League which earns the club about £30-40 million per season.

Whither Arsene Wenger?

I believe he is tired of it all, a long struggle to maintain competitiveness of Arsenal FC whilst working under severe budgetary constraint as imposed by a Board of bean-counters. He is in a dilemma, undecided whether to leave a 20-year project he started or to find a new challenge in Football World.

But I believe Arsenal fans will not know what they missed as there is no other manager who could manage Arsenal FC as Wenger did under such severe budgetary constraints.

Arsene Wenger “promised” he will reveal all in his biography and I for one am eager to read it.

Thanks to Merlin for the post, very little going on in all things Arsenal still it’s pure media storytelling as usual as this player and that are linked and bought by someone else when we probably were not even interested in said player anyway.

Lets hope after today’s Final in France Arsene gets his arse back in to full on Arsenal mode and gets busy in the transfer market. We can but hope.

Spot on. Mourinho has only had success at big clubs with pots of money, which has enabled him to buy trophies. Let him manage a Championship side with limited cash and he will be found severely wanting.

  2. DB10 says:

The EPL is a poorer place now that the conceited one is back. The man badly needs help for his obsession over Wenger. It rips into his guts that he has never been unbeaten – that’s the only reason he is back. Agree too – without mega bucks he is just a below average, self-centred prick.

  3. Wath says:

He ain’t worth the air that i breathe…. The sacked one is such a waste of space, a little space as well as he’s a bit of a dwarf…!

  4. Le Coq Monster says:

    Afternoon all.

Good read Merlin………it`s like reading what I have been thinking for an age.
Personally I`d take Pep or Maureen if it guarenteed me some trophies and so what if then they fcuked off as we aint getting many trophies under the current incumbent !.
How many players out there have any of you lot thought (now or past ) you would like and then they have gone elsewhere and did well…….ones we could have probably got before their current clubs ?….and ones which we would have not had to fight any of the big clubs for !.
I can think of a few off hand………….Griezman………PEA…………..Draxler……….Reus………..Mkhityran( before he was at BD)……………..Bale……………..add your own here etc` etc` etc`………..Now I wanted all of these and If a van driver (and god knows what you lot do!) can scout these great players then wtf is our professional scouts doing !…………….. you cant tell me that the likes of Malaga, Shalke BD, Spuds, Wolfsburg, Munchenladbach and Shakhtar are bigger than the mighty Arse` !.
Wenger makes mistakes…………………”Football is made of opinions, and it is important not to be ashamed of being wrong,” he said. “The evidence is that I have been in football for 40 years and I’m still wrong.”………..no shit !…………………..perhaps you should listen to others !.

  5. Wath says:

LCM, Think Wengers biggest problem is he says he’s still wrong and makes mistakes but it seems he seldom listens to any for advice or takes on board their input. Then again maybe he does and the people round him all think like he does..?

  6. Dan says:

…. And Mourinho is the only manager who took a title-winning team to the brink of relegation in the very next season. Funny how he doesn’t mention that when he calls himself last year’s champion.

  7. frednerk says:

    Afternoon All
Not a lot like the mancs..
But now the little devil has joined up
Your could say Man Utd will be the most hated
    club on the planet.

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

Wath, I think he is the most stubborn so and so I`ve never met who is in charge of something I have loved a lot longer than he has and I(we) cant do anything about it !………………..mind you I have the same problem at home…………..fcuk knows where my money goes as the missus deals with it all !. 🙂

Cant agree ther fred !……………..as a Gooner….. the Spuds are the most hated in the Unverse…… fcuk the planet !. hahaha

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

Easy mistake fred as Manshafter are the second most hated team in the Universe !………………although I have it on good authority that Uranus loves Manshafter more !. 🙂

  10. Boyd says:

Oh I like you comparison. Of course Wenger is the cheese and Mourinho the tasteless chalk Winning the premier league is worth about 100 million pound. So whats so special about Mourinho spending 300 million to secure a 100 million prize. Winning trophies at all cost is not success. Wenger calls it financial doping. Mourinho leaves all the clubs he manages in debts for flash success that is not sustainable. his attitude stinks. He thinks he brings success and he wants to be the centre of attention yet in fact the people who deserve praise are the players. Besides an occasional trophy, Mourinho leaves behind broken players, divided dressing rooms, indebted clubs etc. He is the classless fired one!

Meanwhile Wenger has created consistency; trophies, 16 years of non stop champions league football, top 4 finishes, a healthy solvent club and a massive stadium he designed himself- a stadium rated the best in the world.

I would take Wenger’s classy legacy to Mourinho’s flash pan success sponsored by financial doping!

Wenger is class Mourinho is trash!!!

  11. Le Coq Monster says:

Great day so far !………………….Arsenal supporter Hamilton wins British Grand Prix !……………..Briton has yellow jersey in TdF and Arsenal regular Murray wins Wimbledon !………………….a Giroud or Koz hattrick in a France win and a Wenger quality signing before midnight will be the icing on the cake !.

  12. Le Coq Monster says:

Are successfull teams down to the manager or the owners ?…………………I would say the owners, Maureen may be a successfull manager but would he had done it without the money at the Chavs for example ?…………….Abramobitch has brought the success at the Chavs and with a variety of different managers and I`m absolutely convinced Arsenal would have won the title and more if Usmanov had been our outright owner and spent the kind of money Abramobitch has spent. For one thing……… his ego would have made him want to get one over the Chav owner and at last count he was richer with also the fact that Arsenal are a bigger name historically whereas Chavs have no history before 2005 !.

    Haven`t said it for a while but……………….Kroenke out !…………Uzzy in !

  13. Rick says:

    Evening to the House.
Kev I cannot find the words to give you my thoughts on Toral and Hayden leaving I will leave it at that.

It seems young Nketiah had a very good game yesturday,
Only played 45mins had 5 shots on goal scored 2 and denied 3 times by good saves by the goal keeper.

U 18’s away to Bayen Munich next week then B/W next Sat.

  14. allezkev says:

    Hi Rick

Borehamwood is a bit of a slap from central London, but I’ll see how it goes next week and I might have a buzz up there next Saturday…

  15. allezkev says:

Only 12 more days till our first pre-season friendly at RC Lens…

Would be nice if we have a quality signing or two to discuss between then and now…

Oh dear Cristiano Ronaldo is finished for tonight’s game…

  16. Wath says:

Rick, just a quickie…. considering the toral and Hayden departures whats your gut feeling on Akpom…?

  17. Le Coq Monster says:

Sissoko loves Arsenal and Wenger says he is remarkable !………..could be might signing before midnight ! Always impressed me when I`ve seen him and looks more the £100M player than Pogba (who doesn`t release the ball early enough for my liking !). Still desperate for a striker, but I wouldn`t say no to Sissoko, he was probably a £10M player before the tournament !.

  18. allezkev says:

It’s always difficult to fully judge a player, when he’s appearing for his national team in a big tournament, extra- motivation etc on those occasions blah blah…

But Sissoko has had an impressive tournament as Cocker and JM have mentioned.
Not sure that £10m would get him tbh, probably more towards the £20m mark imo…

  19. Rick says:

Wath I think that Akpom has every chance to do a Bellerin
We have 5 pre-season friendly’s before OG can play so I think he will have the chance to show if he is good enough Its down to him.

  20. Wath says:

Am with you on Akpom RIck, I think he has the attributes to push on… I hope he gets the chance and I hope he proves me right, just have a feeling about the lad but the feeling could also b the fact I need a drink lol

Kev, wasn’t the rumour Sissoko has a 10million fee if the barcodes got relegated..?

  21. allezkev says:

Not sure Wath, I’ve seen his fee quoted at anything between £10m and £20m, but for £10m he looks a sound investment and might explain why Hayden and Toral have been farmed out…

Having wrote all that, Iwobi is gonna get a lot of game time next season I reckon and there’s Elneny, Wilshere, Coquelin, Xhaka, Ramsey to fit in as well…

As long as they stay fit…. ?

  22. allezkev says:

It’s possible Rick, I guess we’ll have more of an idea how Wenger is thinking when we see who, among the youngsters, are involved against Lens and who AW takes to the USA…?

I think Willock is gonna make the breakthrough this season and maybe Zelalem..?

  23. Wavy says:

Portugal! Who’d have thought it? Only sadness is that Ronaldo controlled it! Lose your best player and then have to resort to playing as a ‘team’ and see what it gets you!mthe gold medal!

I’m sure a lot of their success was down to the poison Pygmy! Let’s see how he crows tomorrow. I just can’t wait.

Still it’s good to see another relatively small country can win a major prize. Shame England have just got so many people in it, very few of whom can play football! And have absolutely no leaders of men or women at the top! That includes the FA the Tories The Labour Party, UKIP, and the Lib deems have the last man standing! The only leader who has anything about them at all in the ‘sceptre do isle’ is Nicola Sturgeon!

I ramble! Like Wath I’m short of drink! I shall go and look in the fridge……hic!

    Nite all. It’s dark here!

  24. scottfromoz says:

I said to a mate during the game if Pogba is 100 million, Sissoko is 300 million.
Admittedly, it was based on that one game, but Pogba was almost non existent where the big fella was fantastic for the most part.
    Average game, below average tournament.

  25. tsgh says:

    Boyd- well said.

‘Hosey’ is like ‘arry and his tax evading pooch… only a few teams survive when he takes over…

And Jose never made Porto contrary to Jose’s apologist.

  26. ScottfromOz says:

    Rico banned me.
    ONLY KIDDING RICO hahahahah
    Nah, self imposed ban, Ginge.
What did you think of the game??
Seemed when Giroud went off, the crosses started flying in??
    Strange stuff.
    Portuguese keeper was massive.

  27. tsgh says:

Strange stuff indeed Scott…I thought OG12 had a superb tournament.

Worrying how no striker stood out.

I went through a similar self imposed ban myself… 🙂

  28. Le Coq Monster says:

    Morning all.

Hi Rico…………..only thing more drab than that is Wenger`s transfer dealings !.

  29. tsgh says:

Scott- I use to watch Serie A quite a lot because of Pirlo and Vidal for obvious reasons and I am puzzled why Pogba is so highly rated…

Sissoko has always been very underrated Scott.
In Ligue Un he was superb playing in the box to box role at Toulose. Unfortunately in his last season he was used as a no.10 and I guess when he was available buying French was not fashionable and so AW may have passed on him same as he did with P.E.A,

  30. Le Coq Monster says:

tsgh………………I thought most of the stand out players were Arsenal players……Giroud, Ozil, Koz, Xhaka and the one`s we should buy……Griezman, Sissoko !.

  31. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Welcome back and I hope the holiday was good.
I agree. That tournament was bloody awful from the football, through to the commentary where banality was King. For such a dreadful team to win playing football to such a dreary and negative agenda was somehow apt.
Whoever decides these things should introduce rules that at least attempt to make the thing more interesting to watch.
If I never see Ronaldo again it will be too bloody soon.
Still, now Arsene can start the transfer splurge (he said, laughing).

  32. rico says:

    Morning Ts, LC and Adam..

Thanks for the welcome back, had a great week away thanks…

Couldn’t agree more LC, dreadful really considering the players we need. Maybe now the Euros are over, he’ll get down to some business…

Same here re Ronaldo Adam, ghastly man.

  33. potter says:

Thought Griezman was pretty ineffective against the Portuguese massed defence and made me wonder how he would cope with Pulis et al. Could not work out what hold Gignac had over the water carrier and would have bought Martial; on to play alongside Giroud . it would have added pace and might have given Wenger ideas on playing Sanchez up top with him for us.

  34. Wavy says:

    Morning all.

Welcome back Rico, hope you had a sunny one!

News from Arsenal’s latest transfer dealings? Zilch!

  35. rico says:

Thanks Wavy. It was dry all week barring one early morning with a couple of beautiful days thrown in… Nice…

    New post up now..

  36. Gd10 says:

I’m not a violent person but I must say, I’d really like to twat mourinho.
