More bad news! Career saving comments & Another old boy lined up to return….

Morning all,

When I say ‘old boy’, he’s not really that old, and no, it’s not Denilson.

It’s striker Carlos Vela, who Real Sociedad signed from us last summer after being there on loan. There is a £4 million buy-back clause in his contract and reports suggest Wenger is thinking about activating it.

No chance in my opinion! The player is happy is in Spain, his club are on the verge of securing Champions League football, and he’s playing. Why on earth would he want to move back to England and play for a manager who had little faith in him the first time round?

Sure as heck I wouldn’t!

Forget the Internationals this weekend, a more important fixture takes place on Monday evening, and that’s in the NextGen Series and if our boys can beat CSKA Moscow at the Emirates Stadium, up next will be London rivals Chelsea in the last four. What a fixture that would be….

I jest of course, how can we forget about the internationals, we have thirteen players away on duty. Wojciech Szczesny is one of them but it’s highly unlikely he will play in both. Maybe he won’t feature in either as his form has dropped, he’s been dropped and the player himself admits that the form of Artur Boruc is far superior to his right now.

Talking of our Polish keeper, he’s been quick to release an official statement through the club following his Daddy throwing his toys out of the pram. Just in case you haven’t seen it:

I would like to apologise for the comments made by my father which have been used by both Polish and English media.

I’d like to make it clear that those were the views and opinions of my father and not mine, and although I respect his views I cannot accept them as I find them disrespectful to the club I truly love.

I have been at Arsenal Football Club for seven years now and I have always shown my full respect to the Club, Arsène Wenger, all the coaching staff, my team-mates and the fans.

I’ve always felt that I received great support from the manager and the fans and I am fully focused on getting back to my best.

I am proud to be a part of Arsenal and I see my future at this great club.

I think Szczesny may just about have hung onto his Arsenal career with that statement, we all know that as soon as a player, directly or otherwise, attacks his management skills, (cough) he’s shown the door. Had our keeper left that go without commenting, I am sure that Wenger, and many fans would think that the words of Szczesny Snr were simply repeating the views of his son.

I’m not sure they weren’t anyway, it’s just Jnr expected his father to keep quiet!

But fancy suggesting Arsene Wenger is burnt out as a manager and as a person, too.

Tsk Tsk Papa Ches!!

Finally, just when we thought things could get no worse at the FA, the board has unanimously approved the nomination of Greg Dyke to succeed David Bernstein as FA chairman.

Why is that bad news?

He was a director of Manchester United in the late 1990s, that’s why….

Fergie wins again…!

That’s it for another day, thankfully, this time next week we’ll be looking forward to the Reading game and with a squad without too many injuries….

  1. REN VASSILLIOU says:

The two players i would go and steal from QPR when they go down are REMYand SAMBA both are great players with strength and maturity both these players would improve the team at present for sure,

  2. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
Junior can’t be held accountable for what senior says.
Szczesny has done the right thing though…nop it in the bud before it blows up further.
What a dumb arse his dad is though!!

  3. rico says:

    Morning all…

    Welcome Ren

Both could become available I believe as I’m sure I read they have a relegation clause in their contracts.

Ches had to Scott, or things could have turned a bit tricky… AW and Ches have met up since I read and the air cleared, well, if it needed clearing…

  4. Adam says:

Morning Rico. In my humble opinion we need to set our sights higher than those two. Our ambition should dictate that.

  5. rico says:

    Morning Adam.

I couldn’t agree more. Just letting Ren know they are available but I am sure there is better out there, especially Remy who has hardly hit the ground running at Qpr…

  6. Scott from Oz says:

    Agreed Adam.
Both would be decent additions, but only as back up to top class signings, imo.
Rico, yep…he had to make that statement.
Fancy any father compromising his sons position like that.

  7. Adam says:

Morning Scott. That 140% proof Polish vodka makes people behave in strange ways and say inappropriate things.
I just had my first glass of the day. 🙂

  8. rico says:

Morning Scott, maybe that’s where jnr gets his arrogance from?

    😆 re the international thingy….

I’m on my second glass of Cava Adam, I decided that I am not going to be tempted to drive that nice car today so why not…

Enjoying it whilst cooking a lentil madras. Had to remove some of the chillies though… Bit warm 😉

  9. Gunnerdna says:

What Ches dad did might not be appropriate, but being embarrassed or not, his father spoke the mind’s of many rational AFC fans about AW. We can bury our heads in the sand for all we like..As a bitter pill it’s very hard for AW fans to swallow..But the father spoke the truth.

  10. Adam says:

Rico. I could tell that. There is a certain “Je ne sais quoi” about you this morning.
I thought the Yaris was a bit of a beast myself.

  11. Scott from Oz says:

Dna, truth or not, tell us whether or not you would do this if your kid was a professional footballer!!
It is hardly a surprise you’d take a shot at Wenger, but this is not about that, it is all about the position he put his son in.
Plenty of “rational” fans are laughing at how irrational Szczesny junior is!!
    Good old wodka…….

  12. rico says:

I don’t agree with all he said Gdna, but certain parts I thought were quite near to the truth….

😆 Adam, it must be all the the bubbles…

I’m listening to some music by an American lady with a wonky face, takes me back in time…. 🙂

  13. Carpe diem... says:

    Good Morning,

Carlos Vela SEEMS like the real deal now, don’t get carried away he struggled to get games at West Brom.

He now plays in a league with 2 excellent teams and 3 good teams, any of the remaining 15 could get relegated…staying up in spain is like winning the lottery; it usually is not due to your ability (thats why you find some very good players in teams that get relegated)

If Vela came back it would be same of same.

  14. rico says:

Adam. I will be driving the Yaris later. We have a new Aldi opened so off this afternoon to see if there are any bargains…

  15. Gunnerdna says:

Irrespective of what u think AW has been a failure in club football for 8 yrs, most parent love their kids. If AW was successful he would be applauded, I have no special love or hate for him. The gay is just clueless.

  16. rico says:

Hi Cd, I don’t think he’d come back, he’s in a league that suits his game, the PL didn’t really from what we saw. But then he didn’t really get a proper chance imho….

  17. Gunnerdna says:

It was a Andrea Santos moment Rico, typo error. Sorry about that Madam. What u think about this article? A couple of weeks ago it seemed likely Arsenal would miss out on a Champions League place and finish below Tottenham for the first time under Arsène Wenger. However, as Spurs’ late-season slump kicks in, the Gunners find themselves just four points behind their rivals with a game in hand. With a seemingly easier run-in than André Villas-Boas’ side and no European football to complicate things, what could possibly go wrong for Wenger and his men?
“Jack Wilshere not coming back, for a start,” responds the People’s Janine Self. “Whatever Arsenal do, he is their talisman; he brings something to the team as a person and very much as a player. Arsenal have got an easier run-in than Spurs, they’ve got goals in them and, best of all, they’re actually chasing something and they always look better when they’re the underdogs. So, all of those things are going for them. But versus Wilshere being out? That’s a very difficult equation.”
Would missing out on a place in the top four be the end of the world at the Emirates, though? Rory Smith of the Times believes a season away from the Champions League could be the best thing for Arsenal. “Even if they are in the Champions League, from what we’ve seen of Wenger over the years, he won’t sign the players of the right calibre anyway,” he says. “Whether that’s because there’s no money or he just doesn’t want to, no one is entirely certain. If they finish fourth, is Wenger going to go out and sign three £30m players? I wouldn’t have thought so. Maybe what they need is a year out [from the Champions League] so that Wenger can look at it and say ‘this isn’t working, I have to change’.”
Top four or no top four, Arsenal need to perform major surgery on their squad this summer, according to the Guardian’s Dominic Fifield. Having been plagued by injuries and inconsistent performances throughout the season, Dominic feels the whole spine of the team needs strengthening. ”They need a new goalkeeper, I don’t think [Wojciech] Szczesny has been challenged enough. A centre-half, they definitely need. They could still do with a strong central midfielder and they certainly need a striker. I think they’ll actually need to be in the Champions League to be able to afford all of that, though.”

  18. Scott from Oz says:

Dna, who gives a shit whether you think Wenger has been a failure or not?
It is absolutely irrelevant to what Szczesnys dad did, and that is put his sons career at the club in jeopardy.
Tell us whether you would do that to your son if he was in that position.
Forget everything else, just a yes or no answer please.

  19. Scott from Oz says:

Would anyone care to tell us our record this season without Jack playing?
Of course, i would rather have him available, but it may surprise people.

  20. Scott from Oz says:

I am trying to put a little positivity into the fact he is out, because i don’t believe all is lost without him.

  21. tsgh says:

Indeed it will surprise people Scott… 😉

    Good morning btw…

A fine post Rico… how is it like trading a Yaris in for a RR? 😉

  22. rico says:

I Gdna. Re the rest of that.

We haven’t secured top four and if we do, I’ll be glad because that means we have been winning and that’s all I ever want the club I support to do.

I’m waiting until May to where we finish before I rant more…

And then, the middle of July…

  23. Gunnerdna says:

“It is absolutely irrelevant to what Szczesnys dad did, and that is put his sons career at the club in jeopardy.” This is will make him a better goal keeper. If u forced my 21yr son to play through injury I would say it. Scz dad is not the first parent who did something like that in football, u know how many young player AW fuck their careers because being thrown in the deep to early and have them play through injuries? And u mr don’t come at me like that because this is a soccer blog and my views is gonna differ from others, I will stay calm because I didn’t come here to relieve stress.

  24. tsgh says:

This time no excuses re purchases… no international tournament… so even if a far east Viet cong style tour we should still manage more than one week preseason with a full squad…

  25. rico says:

11.27 Scott. Chill please, everyone has a right to express a view, today isn’t only about Ches snr, its about anything…

  26. Scott from Oz says:

Settle down DNA, it’s only a game lol!!!
I am not sure how many players careers Arsene Wenger “fucked”.
    Why don’t you enlighten us?

  27. rico says:

Hi Ts, not at all, my RR went off and I got left this old heap 😉

So now Jack is the scapegoat?

Can’t believe that during a season which has been as bad as ours has a times, some believe that Jack being out now, is the reason we are winning.

    I really need a second bottle….

  28. Gonerjoe says:

Why would any Arsenal fan want Arsenal to miss out on playing in the champions league.Never mind the income it’s the playing the great teams of Europe. Sometimes I feel people who put this point of view are hoping it would put pressure on Wenger to get him out of the club.

  29. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, i am not sure how you draw that conclusion!
Talk about needing to chill lol!!
I would have thought my 11.38 cleared it up conclusively.
    That will do me.

  30. Gunnerdna says:

JW10 career is under threat because of being overplayed because of poor transfers by the messiah. Experience players don’t jump in certain tackles, knows when to pass and when to dribble. Ramsey and Diaby will never recover because of being thrown in the deep to early

  31. rico says:

I doubt it very much Scott…

Gdna – but we don’t know if Ches was forced to play carrying an injury do we??

  32. Adam says:

Gdna. In your opinion that is? Perhaps a bit of balance is called for as your rabid distaste for all things Wenger lend no credence to a considered argument.

  33. Gunnerdna says:

Rico I honestly believe Scz said something to his dad, remember that’s a father and son relationship, making it worse his dad was a GK too. He could also be upset that the boss replace him between the sticks.

  34. Gonerjoe says:

Playing with minor injuries and knocks is part of football because it’s Mr Wenger it’s another stick to beat him with.

  35. Gonerjoe says:

Gdna I think having your leg broken by barbaric tackles on Ramsey and Diaby not starting to play football when young may have caused there problems.

  36. rico says:

Gdna, it’s not the fact you mention AW, it’s they way you go about it…

You need to chill too sometimes!

  37. Gunnerdna says:

Gon – I’m not saying they aren’t bad tackles, but with experience the outcome might be different.

  38. rico says:

Gdns – And that’s just your view about him playing with an injury.

As I so often say, you can’t change my opinion, Scotts or anyone else’s so why try to and be so confrontational – none of us know facts, most of us don’t try and make out we do!

  39. Gunnerdna says:

Rico at 12:14, my opinion and the way i go about things is going to be different from others, we are from different places

  40. Gonerjoe says:

Gdna experience made no difference to other older Arsenal players who ended up with broken legs in the last couple of seasons.

  41. rico says:

That’s my worry Scott, if that happens again, we know it will be last ditch bargains and we know we’ll be in for more of the same as we have seen this season.

We have money, everyone knows we have money, if AW wants a few back on side, then he needs to spend whatever he is given early and let Bould keep on at the defence.

  42. rico says:

Gjoe. I want us to win every remaining fixture and get 2nd….

Gdna, doesn’t matter where you come from, manners and respect are basics…

  43. Gonerjoe says:

Sagna twice, cesc and edwardo sorry I didn’t list them but I thought gunners would known who I was talking about.

  44. Scott from Oz says:

Dna, you challenge Gonerjoes comments and ask for a response…fair enough.
I repeat my 11.47…..how many players careers did Wenger “fuck” ?

  45. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Gunnerdna Only you could find a negative in Szcesers comments. Seriously, he can’t be held responsible for what his dad says. I think his comments are a breath of fresh air and I believe they show he wants to make sure he stays with a club he clearly has feelings for. What do you want him to do, act like a spoiled baby and run to the press about how unhappy he is? Thats what most footballers do, after all. He acted professionally and has gone up a notch in my estimation.

He deserved to be dropped, end of. And he has accepted it, if his dad hasn’t.

I agree with Scott and Adam and Gunnerjoe To be honest, I couldn’t give two hoots for what some writer of a newspaper says. The Guardian and the Times, a football bible, hold that thought. Most of the press are idiots.

Adam is right, your rabid hatred for Wenger is making you say silly things. You jump on every story and put your twist on it just so you can have a rant.

Gunnerjoe is spot on – Why would an Arsenal fan want Arsenal to miss the Champions League?

You posted a few days ago another ridiculous statement that Wenger had never made a player better and had only made them worse. Rico, who herself is not Wengers greatest fan at the moment, gave a list of examples and there were a few bemused posters on here about your comments.

Is there something we don’t know?

  46. Scott from Oz says:

Seriously, accidents happen, as do dangerous and crude tackles.
Wenger is not to blame for either scenario.

  47. Gonerjoe says:

That was one the other one was having the same leg stamped on. On the the first leg break was caused by sagna been shoved in to the hoarding at WHL.

  48. Gonerjoe says:

The fact is you can’t blame Mr Wenger for Arsenal players ending up with broken legs the are more deserving candidates like the refs and the players who made the tackles.

  49. Scott from Oz says:

    Dna, ruined careers?
If not, i will start thinking it was a comment based on nothing but hatred of Wenger.
    Just can’t be right 🙂
    Joe manned up when challenged.

  50. Gunnerdna says:

KJ – I say again that’s my opinion k. I’m not supporting afc from the sixties, I’m not from London and I hate AW ways so I’m not an afc fan that’s some of the things you don’t know

  51. Scott from Oz says:

I can not disagree with that Rico.
We must concede he has made sone careers by doing the same thing though.
    Just not lately though.

  52. Gonerjoe says:

Gdna the maybe reasons for your hatred of Mr Wenger but blaming him for leg break injuries is like blaming him for weather.

  53. Kevin KJ Downton says:

“KJ – I’m not supporting afc from the sixties, I’m not from London and I hate AW ways so I’m not an afc fan that’s some of the things you don’t know”

What? Can you translate this into English please DNA.

If not the sixties, what decade were you born in. I am guessing the noughties?

  54. rico says:

It won’t get any better under this new guys either, especially the standard of reffing the Manc matches. And Brentford – he was there for a while 😉

  55. Scott from Oz says:

In that case Adam, may i thank Mr Wenger for our glorious sunshine of late 🙂
    Australia salutes, Monsieur Nature.

  56. rico says:

Agree there too Scott, especially the ‘not lately’ bit 😉

Th long winter is down to PHW Adam, all that cigar smoke is clouding the skies.

    And Kroenke’s judgement….

  57. Gonerjoe says:

Gdna I did and that’s why I pointed out the facts that Wenger can’t be blamed for our injuries.

  58. Gunnerdna says:

KJ let me translate it for you sir, I was being sarcastic because of a comment you made on a previous post. Is this personal?

  59. Gonerjoe says:

I am using up the last of my leave sitting at home looking out at the rain and high winds if I thought Mr Wenger was responsible I’d be in gdna’s camp.

  60. George says:

    Afternoon all…

Some interesting comments…Here’s my 2p’s worth.

Vela-not good enough. He is playing at his level. he should be. i like him as a player but will never forget how he forgot his Passport when we were playing Barcelona in the Champions league and we got done 4-1.

Maciej Szczesny- is only doing what most Football dads do, try and help their kids, especially as he was a successful goalie himself. It is a cheap shot at a manager, for all his faults , who has given his boy a chance. Some posters on here I feel are right in condemning the dad , as some managers wouldnt take a parent , whoever he is /was slating them publically. Its the same in grassroots football where I manage. If a kid shows poor form, I drop him, have a word in private, and hope at trainig he tries harder. If the kid who replaced him is doing well, he deserves to keep his place-simples. It works the same here. Undermining your sons coach publicly shows you up, makes your son’s position difficult and causes embarrassment for everyone concerned.

Wojciech Szczesny-handled himself very well respecting both his dad and employer. However there is no smoke without fire and it could be something in his unhappiness at being dropped, he felt he’d use his dad as a way of getting a message across to the boss and his critics

As for the point in Arsene Wenger ruining players careers- My take on it is that the players themselves make their own careers and get what they put in, and rely on luck with the injuries. Ryan Giggs is a fine example of how to have a good career, if at times lucky. The balance of protecting your player versus punishing them is fine and can easily be mismangaed by even the greatest. Referring to Giggs as per my example, when he got caught with his brothers missus or cheating on Dani Behr, Fergie stood by him. Off the field Fergie is not responsible for him. On it, if he plays poorly, he is dropped. You never heard Giggs dad moan , or him say a boo to a cat.

Players should be their own judge. TV5 quite rightly points out. He hasn’t been good enough and deserves to be on the bench.

Their football should do their talking. If they are asked to play out of position, then do so. They get paid enough. No one asked Arshavin to play in goal did they? Left wing attacking mid, 2nd striker. We are talking what 20 meters either way. 90k a week? Deal with it.

  61. rico says:

I cannot believe the change in this weather, was just about to take Fido out, the sun went, the clouds came and now heavy rain and hale…

PHW has so much to answer for… 😉

  62. rico says:

Hi George, I to believe their is no smoke without fire, Ches has phoned Daddy, and had a moan. But i doubt for one minute he expected to see it in the press oops 😉

Good point re playing out of position, but when it isn’t working, surely it’s best changed. We have to make the most of what we have got and get the best out of them..

And playing out of position doesn’t always do that. Not saying the players shouldn’t be busting a gut to try…

    You know me Kj…

    Afternoon Kev, I blame Gambon…

  63. W.A.T.H says:

Spectrum is right of course AK… In rain we rust….!

Never drink water it makes you rust it’s why I always stick to wine and GG…!

  64. Kevin KJ Downton says:

    George – Brilliant post!

Rico – Where on earth do you live? Power cuts, hailstorms, snowdrifts, you must be on your own little Island somewhere? You could move to somewhere habitable 🙂

GunnerDNA – I genuinely didn’t understand your comment and it needs clarification.

    You said,
“I’m not from London and I hate AW ways so I’m not an afc fan that’s some of the things you don’t know”.

Utter gobbledegook. Grammar is not an elderly relative, you know.

  65. emma says:

That is why i hate the interlul. It’s ramsey’s fault. Only encouraging news is wilshere back for reading.

  66. allezkev says:

Hiya Rico. Yes, that Gambon, what a bounder… 😉

Hey Wath, Adam beat ya to the vodka today, he’s probably stuffing half-a-pound of Charlie up his hooter as we blog.
They breed them hard as nails down Liverpool Road, 😛

George, gotta say that that was a quality post mate.

  67. emma says:

    b/w good post rico,
    George – ditto
I hope other players come back in one bit after the interlul. Otherwise I will blame Gdna 🙂

  68. rico says:

South East Kj, we cop it all here 😉

Great news re Walcott emma, hope he returns to Arsenal for some shooting practice..

    😆 Wath..

  69. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Emma – Interesting post about Theo. John Cross is an Arsenal fan, so, shock horror, it may actually be true.

Rico – I apologise for my sarcasm, we have the horrid weather now! My son just called me, my garage door has just had a cable snap in the wind, I will be sending a bill to Arsene Wenger, GunnerDNA may have saved me a few bob 🙂

  70. W.A.T.H says:

AK, Adam taught me that new Tequila technique.. Snort the salt squeeze the lemon in your eye and then down the hatch with the tequila… works a treat and the ladies love it…!

  71. rico says:

No Kt. not that far East, maybe more central…

Cross is not a Gooner, I’d put my money on that…

  72. George says:

Thanks AK KJ, Rico and Emma..

@2.40Rico, remember when we played the Flamster left back?

If you are a committed player and willing to learn , even if it isn’t your best position, you do your bit for the team.

Every big side loves a grafter ,every successful side has an unsung hero. Perhaps that’s why Ramsey is beginning to win fans over. He knows he’s been poor, doesn’t moan and plays out his heart in positions he isn’t strong at.

Wiltord was never a right winger but kept at it. In the end there will be a club who will take that “weak player”what you as fans take for granted. This is where we are going wrong at a club. Those that slated Flamini have seen him play admirably for AC Milan now, and it wasn’t because we were tight or he was a good left back that AC went for him. It was because he tried his best and listened to his manager and teams needs. When he needed the club to listen to his needs in private, they gambled black. And it landed on Red.

If they have to play out of position, so be it. I am sure im not alone in thinking, Id rather be on the pitch in a position that isn’t my strongest than on the bench or being half hearted about it.

Theo should take note. If you have been doing ok as a right winger but feel you are better centrally, then work harder on the pitch. don’t go moaning that Wenger destroyed you, or the tactics are to blame for your laziness.A certain Henry hated playing on the wings. He used to cut inside after beating his man and kept pushing on. He wasn’t born with the skills. You have to make it happen. Versatility is a managers favourite asset in a player on his team. He gets picked, the more versatile you are , the more “complete ” you are as a footballer.

  73. allezkev says:

Wath, Adam taught me how to smoke crack.

Not sure if the ladies luv it?

    But I certainly do… 🙂

    Hang loose Adam.. 😀

  74. rico says:

I agree George that players need to buck up and try a lot harder, and Theo is one of a few in my view but, I still maintain that when something isn’t working regardless of the huge effort being put in, the manager should change it…

Is Flamoney playing that well then?

  75. George says:

Rico, he’s doing better than Song is at Barca lol..

He is a First 11 player at AC Milan, and playing his preferred position. He earned the right with his work ethic and recognition for that season in the run up to the CL final as a left back. So some of our “primas” need to take a leaf and not smoke it 😉

Im not a fan of Arsene Wenger nor a critic.Management is a job while priveleged and very well paid has its downsides too.

I support Arsenal, whoever manages them. They all have their good bits and their bad bits. For example Bruce Rioch , we finished poorly that 1 season he was in charge. But he brought in one of the best players we have ever seen in Dennis Bergkamp.

  76. Gunnerdna says:

It’s going to spend Rico on some squid, bendy, Cham, santos and parkes. You get to be special to buy these players. Lol

  77. George says:

    Hi Adam,

We really miss DD with our transfer policy and wage scenario..

I know his son was a player agent but he really did sort out some real class signings..

D’ya reckon he didn’t last because of Stewart Houston being his asst at the time lol,,

  78. Adam says:

Harry Redknapp and Tony Pulis have ambition. So does Alan Pardew and Sam Allardyce. How about one of those?

  79. Gunnerdna says:

I say again any manager with ambition, sorry if u don’t understand my English ain’t that good.

  80. George says:

One is in it for his pocket and to avoid tax, plays playground football

One likes to wear baseball caps and kick them up in the air style

The other one thinks by growing a beard he will look continental to match his french players swagger

The other is fat and likes hoofball

    Adam- LOOL

  81. Adam says:

Gdna. I simply asked who you would like as manager. The only criteria you put forward was ambition. So I gave 4 names of managers who have ambition. You can’t just come on HH, slaughter Wenger and then complain if someone asks you for a plan.
My point being that to be Arsenal manager requires more than just ambition.

  82. rico says:

I too would love to hear who you’d like to see appointed instead of Wenger Gdna.

You keep spouting on about how rubbish Wenger is, well who do you want in his place…

  83. Adam says:

George. I think Dein was the grease that made the wheels turn. When he left those wheels ground to a much slower speed. The board should never have allowed Wenger so much control with, what seems like, zero accountability. This coincided with DD’s departure and was a really terrible thing for Arsenal. That multi-millionaires should let their own squabbles get in the way to that extent was truly momentous for Arsenal and all it’s fans. PHW is culpable too.

  84. George says:

    @ Adam..Spot on there.

DD still goes out to dinner with AW in whetstone, they are good mates…why can’t he come back. He’d give everyone a lift, in so many ways..

Lady Nina Bracewell Smith / PHW/the late Fiszman/Friar all in house squabbles , throw in a Cold war over control and here you are.

Nice pitch , above average team, not brilliant, lower expectations too much power with the wrong people and no accountability.

@gdna Klopp…Good mgr, better than wenger? Im not sure..Overall statistically Wenger boasts a higher win ratio percentage wise.

Furthermore coincidentally klopp is managerail flaour of the year with Borussia dortmund enjoying their best period in their history while Arsenal are enjoying an inconsistent barren one, but with a Nice stadium to boot

  85. rico says:

Adam. The club made a huge mistake not having a replacement for DD before it all went sour, and as you say, giving AW so much control made things worse as even when Gazidis was appointed, no-one told Wenger his days doing so many jobs were over.

Then of course, they appointed the wrong man….

  86. Kevin KJ Downton says:

I think Wenger has been isolated, whether by his own choice or not. David Dein and Arsene Wenger was a successful double act, like Morecambe and Wise or Port and Cheese. Not sure we could have attracted a top manager with a policy of making profits on player transactions. Given the money and providing it gets spent on proper players, I would rather Wenger than others.

Remember, Mourinho was given virtually unlimited funds but walked out on Chelsea during the january transfer window becuase Abramovich refused to give him even more money. How much did he want for heavens sake.Should have popped down to the local sports shop and just bought the biggest trophy on the shelf.
    .

  87. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Adam – I love all cheeses but any excuse for a good port sitting round a wood fire with grammar 🙂

  88. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Rico – You have censored one of the funniest posts I have ever read. Seriously, I may have to sew up my sides. What were you thinking. He even has the perfect avatar 😉

  89. allezkev says:

Ah Stilton in a toasted ham sandwich, now your talking Adam…

Apparently Rocky swears by a cheese shop in Coventry Garden.

    Neals Yard…

  90. rico says:

    Or Gambon Kev 😉

Too bad Kj, HH isn’t that kind of place and please try and resist next time. Like I said, you know the rules,

There are only two I think….

  91. Kevin KJ Downton says:

    Goodnight Rico and Adam

    My favourite quotation:

“It is better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool, than to open one’s mouth and remove all doubt”

  92. allezkev says:

    I can’t really work it out tbh…

Arsenal have just recorded two fantastic away wins and ‘still’ ppl are not happy???!!!

You know guys ( n’gals) we’ve really gotta try and start trying to enjoy our football again.

Otherwise we’ll end up bitter and twisted.

    You know, like Stewart Robson!

  93. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Rico – I know but i just couldn’t resist it, where on earth did you dig him up from, your field?

  94. Adam says:

I know Neals Yard well Kev. But the smell in that cheese shop is a bit ripe for me. Especially that Irish cheese named Milleens (spelling?). That stuff moves by itself and the pong is unbelievable.

  95. rico says:

Kev – I am hoping to squeeze in a trip to Neals next month, not sure if I’ll get time though…

Lent will be over and I’ll be back on the cheese. I have seriously missed it this year…

  96. allezkev says:

Rico, I heard on the radio, that Arsenal have confirmed that Theo will be out for 8 to 10 days…
So he might just be ok for a place on the bench vs Reading…

  97. allezkev says:

Never heard of that ponging Irish cheese Adam.

I do love a cheese that smells of sweaty socks. 😉

Rico, when you visit Neals Yard, give me a bell, I’ll pick you up…
Not been there myself, but Rocky loves the place.

  98. rico says:

Kev, the last two matches have been so much better.

If we have that same level, and beat Manure, I’ll start to think we have a big toe around the corner….

  99. rico says:

But every village has one Kj – I am sure yours is no different, in fact you have convinced me it’s not 😉

  100. allezkev says:

Next time your up West, Adam, we’ll have to meet up by Neals Yard.

See if Rocky can join us…

We can have a cheese feste.

KJ, I do my best to stay positive re: Arsenal.
But I fully understand why some of my mates on here struggle to stay upbeat…
It all adds to the spice of HH I suppose…

  101. rico says:

Not at all Kj, I am just my usual self, and I really don’t need to eat yet , but thanks for your concern …

  102. rico says:

You’ll be busy tonight Kev, snow is on it’s way again 🙁

It’s hit the north and one poor older lady has lost her life…. So sad…

  103. Kevin KJ Downton says:

Bye all, enjoy the football tonight and let hope all our boys playing keep safe.

Rico – Awful day at work but thanks for helping make HH so much fun today with some great posts. Have a great Weekend 🙂

  104. rico says:

    Ditto re the players Kj…

Thanks Kj, we do like a bit of fun here… Have a good evening and weekend…

  105. rico says:

I’m stunned but so glad for him…

Newcastle defender Massadio Haidara could be fit to return to the side within 10 days, the Premier League club has revealed.

  106. Adam says:

Kev. I think we might all be doing the journey from Prescott St to Neals Yard quite soon. 🙂
    Peace man….,,

  107. Rick says:

Evening Rico and all HH readers.
I have been following todays posts and thought I would add to the comments about Chessnys dad. This week on Arsenal Player are showing Two interviews with the Great Bob Wilson.
In the first Bob states he was offerd a contract by Man U but his Dad said No you have got to have a proper job. As a result he became a School Teacher and was still teaching when he joined us.
In part 2 he reffered to the time he was GK coach.and stated the GK he was working with were Lukic, Jennings and Seaman. He says I did not have to teach them much.
His love of Arsenal shins throughot the interviews and his final words says it all.
They are its not a case of what Arsenal can do for me but what can I do for Arsenal.
A true Legend who joined us because of his Dad.

  108. tsgh says:

    hi all,

I have missed some very hot discussions today…

    George re Ramsey- ditto

If I may make just a slight correction though George… Flamini is only playing well because he is repeating his last season with us at the AC…. why?

Last season Milan lost some key midfield maestros and even then he was a free agent for 2 months until August of last year and then re-signed.

His first 4 years over there was mediocre to say the least,…but as you said Flamini is every managers dream player… he is a grafter and unfortunately players like that are not appreciated by most fans as in the case of Ramsey…

  109. tsgh says:

Emma- nice post on the Arsenal finance…. I have always said on here that the only a proportion of the reported salary goes to football…

How is it that a FC based in London has over 500 full time employees (not footballers or coach or medics etc)… what are they all doing…

Kj… any further news on Stan’s salary from us…

  110. tsgh says:

…re 11:52 …Rico so what you were saying is you are pimping your ride to have your initials on your car seat like Kyle Bartley? 😀

  111. Scott from Oz says:

    Good morning all.
And i thought i was the only one tiring of reading “Wenger out” in every single post.
Adam, a few days back you asked those supporting Wenger for some reasoning.
I know you are not the mans greatest supporter, but fair play to you for asking the same thing of the dark side 🙂
That is my beef with our mate-he never offers any logic or reasons, just “Wenger out”.
    Anyway, enough of that…hopefully.
A last nights academy training, the kids were put through their paces on getting a cross in.
Arsene, i cam send three or four of these kids over to show some of our lads how to do it.
Off to work, then game day for the boy.

  112. Adam says:

Scott. As I have said many times, an opinion is just that and just because I feel a certain way about Wenger, that doesn’t mean that I am anti-him or that Arsenal mean any less to me. As long as someone can give me a considered reason for their point of view, I am ok with that. Even within my own family there is often disagreement as to what is going on.
But just to pop on and lay into him or anyone else, for the sake of it, is not only tedious, but just a bit silly.

  113. rico says:

Hi Rick, spot on re Bob, our keeping has dropped since he left imho…

Ts, you lost me on the Kyle Bartley thinghy….

Hi Scott – hope you are getting paid double time 😉

  114. rico says:

Bradley Wiggins is playing well at left back….

Nice to see the Totts right back playing too, more he plays the better I say, and Defoe 🙂

  115. rico says:

    This won’t please Wath:

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Mario Gotze admits he would be interested in a future transfer to Manchester United.

The 20-year-old German is one of the most highly-rated young talents in Europe, and would also consider moves to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

  116. rico says:

Nice goal Ox, finally he shoots with his head down.

That will give him a lot of confidence, ready for Reading and the Mancs 😛

  117. rico says:

My day here is done folks.

Have a good evening, day or night, wherever you are.

Night Adam, Scott, Ts, Kev, emma and anyone else reading 😛

  118. Scott from Oz says:

Rico, i work on a commission basis, so it is a pure numbers game…the more work i do, the more i earn.
It isn’t fair, but oh well 🙂
    Kidding, of course.
    Go Ox!!
    Well said again Adam.

  119. allezkev says:

Thought that Oxlade-Chamberlain had a steady game.
Game time, even for England, is handy for Arsenal.
8-0, can’t complain. Some in the Press will probably find something to moan about, bunch of losers!

    Ramsey scores for Wales.

Hopefully a clean bill of health come Wednesday…

  120. NashuaGunners says:

Good Night Rico, t’morrow is another day.

Btw.I just want you to know the ‘Wenger out’ comment push my blood pressure up the roof…:-)

    Maybe now I can relax.
