Morata to Arsenal before 13th June? Chambers career taking a sideways step…

Xhaka

Forget blue, brown is best…..

Morning all.

From Southampton to Arsenal a couple of summers ago, from right-back to centre-back and finally central-midfield, Calum Chambers is heading out on loan this coming season and it’s looking like his old club are the team to get his career back on track. If we are to believe what’s written in the media, Arsene Wenger rates the youngster highly but has told him that first team football will be hard to find at Arsenal next season.

In hindsight, he should have gone out on loan last season because not once did he start a league match and had he done so, he may have been much improved by now and found a position which he can master rather than just fill in somewhere when required but I guess once Debuchy suffered injury and then went out on loan in January, Chambers was our only option left at right-back. Anyway, if he does go, good luck to him. I hope he does well and he should do under Koeman. He’s a good manager, one who a few Arsenal fans I know would love to see replace Arsene Wenger and soon.

At least Chambers goes with an under 21’s England European medal in his pocket which shows Gareth Southgate believes in his abilities. England conceded just two goals during the entire competition which consisted of five matches.

In other European news, Giroud, who had booed by the French fans, scored last night for France but it was Payet who stole the headlines with a stunning free kick to secure a 3-2 victory over Cameroon.

Alvaro Morata has fuelled the fire relating to a move to England. Talking to AS, he’s been quoted as saying:

There are some offers from England that are tempting, not only by contract. I think for my characteristics the Premier League would also be a great destination.

I’m saying a move to the Premier League would not be a step backwards. With what I have learned in Italy, if I have the chance to learn something more in England I think it would make me a more complete, better player.

I’m 23 and all I want is progress, to play and learn from the best.

Well, Arsenal have some of the best don’t they? Koscielny, Cazorla, Alexis, Ozil, Cech, Walcott, (just seeing if you read the post) Xhaka, Bellerin, Monreal – hey, we have a few you know but the big decision for him I guess would be Arsene Wenger, would the young Spaniard believe he could learn from our French manager?

Wherever he’s heading, he wants the move sorted out before Spain kick-off against the Czech Republic on 13th June in the Euros:

Hopefully everything will be resolved before the 13th, Spain’s first game (against Czech Republic). Because it is uncomfortable to be here thinking about helping your country with a phone in your hand.

Let’s see what happens at the end and where I play.

Go on Arsene, you know you need someone like him….

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Seems that players are beginning to have brains between their ears nowadays. Before they used to wait until a major tournament. Now it seems that they want everything sorted out before. First we had Xhaka saying that he wanted everything sorted out before the Euro. Now its Morata as well.
Good. At least they seem not to live in a bubble.

Theo one of the top??? lol. you were having a larf there Rico. Yes we do read the posts …..Theo is anything but. He is just a player. End of.

Rashford is a footballer on the other hand.

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

I have been banging the drum for Payet since he was 21 Rico. I would have like AW to get him as he would have been good for us. I still believe that 15-20mill will get him.

Imagine Xhaka and Cazorla with Sanchez, Ozil and Payet in front of them.

  3. rico says:

I did hear a little whisper that Arsenal tried to get him back in January Devil but as usual, the offer wasn’t enough…

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

as usual Rico. Maybe that is about to change hopefully.

AW needs to get a CB and RB (if Chambers goes on loan), a LB (for Gibbs), a winger and a forward.

plus another CM and hope Toral makes the grade as well.

Morning all, another lovely day here for those of you keeping count that’s 4 days in a row.
This weather will lead to lots of farmers tans at the moment we have lots of red faces.

  6. Joe says:

Well done to afc Wimbledon an antidote to franchise football clubs now in the same league as MK Dons may they keep heading in the right direction.

  7. rico says:

    Lucky you Joe…

No idea really Adam, in this crazy football world, anything could happen. I’m sure some of the ‘bigger’ clubs will be tempted…

  8. allezkev says:

    Rico ?

Coach, did you see what Rick posted yesterday about the restructuring, again, of youth football…

One day they might get it right…

  9. potter says:

Morata 6 foot 2 ” Holds the ball , not prolific , aerial presence . Looks like Wenger wants more goals from midfield .

    We can only hope.

  10. Hell Raising Devil says:

Yes I saw it Kev. But restructuring will turn out to be another white elephant…..unless they restructure the coaching system first.

If you are using old coaches with new methods the system will not work.

Its not youth football which needs restructuring……its the coaches themselves. new training methods with regards technique and tactics.

If you put, say a 55 year old coach who has been brought up within the same system of 35 years ago he will not change simply because the methods are new. thus the young players under his care will still suffer and lag behind their peers in Spain and France and Germany.

Speed, movement, agility, techniques and tactics should be taught from the earliest age as possible….at least from 10 years.

Take Theo Walcott….he used to be played up front because of his speed and the rest of Southampton teams used to sit back and defend. pump it up to him, he will take on the defenders and win with speed and score. Now that he has had cruciate what is the first thing which goes??? yep…..speed. And his lack of movement and tactical nous come to the fore.

    the same with midfielders.

  11. rico says:

Are you sure re Walcott and Southampton Devil?

Me too Adam, very odd considering the whole idea of the game is to score goals… lol

  12. tsgh says:

    Good afternoon all,
Good read as always Rico. ”Arsenal have some of the best don’t they?” I must admit this is the first time I have read the ‘sermons’ before proceeding to type.. 😛

Kev I agree with you re. Payet. He was slated on here 2 or 3 years ago when we played OM in the UCL. Same was said about Ayew and Valbuena…

  13. allezkev says:

    Hi Ginge

Yeah Coach, maybe the youth coaches should go back to school..?

Rico, do you notice that Alexis doesn’t shoot as often as he used to.

Wenger soon knocked that out of him.

Tbh, when you consider what was said earlier this season, about Wenger and his ideas on ‘intelligent’ shooting – I think that was the term. Arsene seems very comfortable with the crap shooting and general standard and lack of variety when it comes to free-kicks…

  14. Hell Raising Devil says:

yes Rico….certain of it. it was stated a few years ago when Capello was in charge of the England team and one of the coaches (cant remember his name) said that Theo was never coached tactically since at youth level he was always played up front and relied on his blistering pace to get the better of the defenders.

  15. bradster says:

Sad about our coaching. I think of how Ronaldo went to United with his running, head down, 50,000 step overs go no where rawness and coached by Fergie to be the top class player he is today.
We have a similar player in Ox but not someone to guide him right. I think the injuries are not helping Ox’s development either.

  16. Joe says:

    State alert☺
3.5% what is 3.5% that’s the success rate for shooting outside the box not great is it.
Maybe that’s why Wenger’s not happy with players taken shots outside the box (if true) and prefers his players to wait till they are in the box where the percentages are higher.

  17. Marshall says:

Reus out of another major tournament for his country. Unlucky fella with injuries – fits the type of players we have. AW sign him up! He’ll be free all summer.

  18. tsgh says:

lol… Joe; you know stats are lies! 😉 Knowing on average only 16 out of 100 shots from outside the box were scored across the top 5 leagues in Europe I wonder if its the way forward… Saying that long shots when it goes in is always memorable and so fans always want screamers even though it rarely happens.

  19. rico says:

Ts, I’m not talking about shots from distance really, what about when we get in the box and still look for another pass? So many times I’ve just wished someone would put their boot behind the ball, especially Ozil…

  20. Adam says:

Rico. How bizarre. I was just thinking about your number and thought a 6 with a 4 as a close second. Mind you, I did have a 1 in 10 chance as I assumed you weren’t a goalie. 🙂

  21. tsgh says:

Adam it was circa 35% in EPL but dropped to 28% this season… it also corresponds to one of the lowest number of goals scored in EPL era… according to sports intelligence.

Don’t have data for whole of Europe at hand…

  22. potter says:

6 or 9 depends which way up he is.

I always played number 10 on Saturdays and 7 on Sunday.

  23. Joe says:

Tsgh my stats where from all of Europe there are more but I was afraid to use them you know how much stats are loved here. ?
But the fact is the nearer a player gets to the goal the is a very big increase in goals scored once your in the six yard box.

  24. tsgh says:

    lol Joe. You chickened out…?
Interesting how an intercepted or rebounded shot from outside the box is more likely to lead to an opponent scoring…

  25. tsgh says:

Joe. If you come from the purist school (AW/LVG) of possession being the best form of defence and you note like AW may have observed that with the 4th best possession rate in EPL (including Swansea) we had the 3rd best defence in top 5 then AW is less likely to tell his players to aim sporadically at goal…

  26. potter says:

That’s even whiter than my hair and I’m 68. Maybe he’s going for the welsh sheep look .
( I will probably get banned for that ).

  27. Marshall says:

I wouldn’t be inspired by no 16 either.
Isco is not in Euros. He’d tour the Ems during his free time and hunt for a house cause he’d be perfect replacement for Ramsey – if Barcelona are crazy nuff to buy him.

  28. allezkev says:

    Petr Cech – Czech Republic
    Wojciech Szczesny – Poland
    Laurent Koscielny – France
    Olivier Giroud – France
    Mesut Ozil – Germany
    Aaron Ramsey – Wales
    Granit Xhaka – Switzerland
    Jack Wilshere – England
    Hector Bellerin – Spain

  29. potter says:

Sadly I have Kev. I had quite a bit of purgatory at school. If I knew where those kids were now I would get my own back in spades.

  30. allezkev says:

I know your pain Potter, I lived in Tottenham and went to school there when they won the FACup in 1967.
I lived in Stoke Newington when Tottenham won the league, but I was too young to comprehend – thankfully….

  31. Hell Raising Devil says:

Blimey Kev!!!! you are that old????/ when spuddies last won the league????

I thought you were born sometime in the 80’s mate

always thought you looked so young.

    Good Morning lovelies and hunkies.
