Arshavin off, Montpellier confirm Giroud & Chamakh interest. The Ox shines & Shevchenko shows how it's done..

So it seems the Giroud story could have ‘legs’ after Montpellier coach Rene Girard gave an interview to French radio station RMC.

Girard said:

Giroud loves England as well as Arsenal. We know Wenger wants him in his team. If they make an offer that’s probably where he’ll go.

It’s likely that Giroud had to go to Arsenal. In this case we’d like to get Chamack on loan but I don’t know if it is possible.

Loan Chamakh, they can have him!

Funny that Girad says we haven’t made an offer yet, or is he just keeping quiet?

No doubt this news will add to the speculation surrounding Robin’s contract, some will I suspect think that should we sign Giroud, he will be Robin’s replacement but why? Robin wants us to show ambition, isn’t signing this kind of player doing exactly that?

If Park and Chamack both leave, then we definitely need more up front and Giroud will give us just that.

Talking of strikers, Shevchenko scored two really good goals for Ukraine last night, at the ripe old age of 35, he made sure that his country defeated Sweden. After the match, I listened to Alan Shearer who said that all the time the crosses are going into the box, it’s the strikers job to find them and bury their chance and that’s just what Shevchenko did.

So next time we all sit and moan about Sagna, Gervinho, Walcott etc crossing ‘into an empty space but the right space’, have a think! Maybe that’s why we are looking to sign a 6′ 3″ striker who is strong in the air and one who gets into those spaces where the crosses end up!

What a howler from James Milner, how did he not bury his chance last night for England? I thought it was a quite a good game really, Oxlade-Chamberlain showed just what he is made of and is no doubt a sure bet to start the next game, the ref was a complete idiot who clearly favoured the French and it was a shame that Na$ri was the man to score Frances’ equaliser. Hart will be disappointed to have seen that go past him, well he should be!

One Frenchman retired from the game yesterday and that’s Sylvain Wiltord who helped us to win Premier League titles in 2002 and 2004. He returned to France after The Invinsible season where he went on to help Lyon win the league title in 2005, 2006 and 2007. After that he headed to Rennes and onto a couple of other French clubs before finally hanging up his boots yesterday.

Hope he has a long and happy retirement…

Last bit of news is that The Daily Mail report that Zenit and Arsenal are in talks about Arshavin, £8 Million is the amount his old club will have to pay for his services…

That’s it for today, have a good one, I’m off out in the rain!

  1. Lewis says:

Morning all. Good news about Giroud, now we just need Rennes chairman saying the same aabout one of his players. 😉
England game was so boring I turned over, Ox looked good in patches and was willing to help out at the back, the ref must have been on the French FA’s payroll and Milner is pony.

  2. Satan says:

Satan is back..haha..Ox shines..Well, he;s just too quick to play for English team. Ain’t he? Was there any one who could keep up with him?

I really thought England lacked width and they just didn’t spread the ball around well enough. On the other hand every time they did and Ox tried to sprint, Cabaye brought him down. Every time. Good job ref. Other than that really liked discipline. The shape was impeccable. Still feel sorry for Grant Holt. Put Holt for Wellback and Wellback for Young and they have bullied the defense and torn them apart.

Still not able to see how any of Rami or Mexes are ahead of Kos. Even Rossi is better than both.

  3. Satan says:

Oh and Shevchenko. This is what fairy tales are made of. We saw one tale come true when King Henry scored agains Leeds and another one last night. This seems to be year of 30 odds. Henry, Drogba, Rosicky, Yossi, Arteta(nearly there), Scholes, Giggs, Murphy…

  4. rico says:

Telling Neville to shut up so i read Lee, what a k*ob he is….

We just had a spud fan trying to get on, loads of comments calling us every name under the sun, must be a sad time in spudland…

Really must go now, good to see you back Satan…

  5. Scott From Oz says:

    Evening all.
    Devil,on your post in yesterdays topic,Tyton is a terrific keeper,have no fear….it wasn’t just a one off.
I say highlights only of the England V France match.
One run from Ox showed exactly how good he is.
From what I can gather,he didn’t have an awful lot to do,but tis is great experience for him.

  6. Matty says:

Man how many of you wanted to smack nasri in the face?? i hate the guy especially when he did the shh sign! what a C you next Tuesday!

  7. joywedsjeff says:

girioud and mvilla is what we need to be a title winning team again. We have a very good core of players including ramsey.what we need is a good start to the season. July cant come fast enough for me cos i feel thats when we will announce new signings.

  8. W.A.T.H says:

U saw highlights of the game Scott, about 30seconds by my reckoning then……. Was rather boring I went and watched paint dry…!

  9. W.A.T.H says:

Make you right there Scott, other than that was pretty toilet to watch.
Am all good Lee, sick of this working lark time to put me feet back up again and do naff all for a few months 😉 you good..?

  10. W.A.T.H says:

Been keeping a watch Scott just not had time drink let alone comment on here last few weeks but should be quiet from now on for a while.

All the gossip on players is the usual twaddle….. Amazing how so many people fall for it all year after year.

  11. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all Nice one Rico,
Many thought the England game was a boring affair, i personally thought that we played the game the right way, the defence at the moment is resolute and the midfield are protecting the back line as much as it can which is obviously restricting our forward play , but France is probably the best team in the group and we had to try and restriced them as much as we could, and hope for an oppotunity up front which came up a few times. England are defending in numbers and are doing a good job Hodgeson has tried to shut the back door and its working may not be exciting but we are getting results. Arsenal could learn by this kind of defending as our defence leaks like a sieve. I felt we should have won last night i felt Joe Hart should have done better with Nasri’s shot after all he was a long way out but thats football.

  12. W.A.T.H says:

Love it Lee……………… 🙂 We should do a print up… The Gullible Times 😉

Thought Ox did ok last night shame we didn’t play with a bit more width and get into the frogs they looked 2bob at the back..!

  13. Scott From Oz says:

Steve, not to defend Hart too much, but the highlights I saw showed an angle from behind goal…..he’d have seen it very, very late.

  14. W.A.T.H says:

SP, hear what your saying regarding the set up by England and yep it worked and we got a result. Arsenal’s problem is we don’t have the players or the mind set nor the discipline in midfield to grind out results like that, we’d have far to many wandering all over the place…!

  15. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Scott, Hart is a very good keeper i felt he should have saved it but Nasri is quality whether people believe it or not, i feel very sad that old Arsenal players get a lot of stick but they are certainly showing their class in competitions like this one Nasri last night i felt played really well and Fabregas was excelent the other night, Arsenal men and quality.

  16. Will says:

How the French team didn’t get several yellow cards is beyond me. Every time the Ox played 1-2, he was tripped cynically. To me they were professional fouls and should have been treated as such.

Now as for us, imagine a front squad of: Van Persie, Grioud, Podolski, The Ox, Afobe with Arteta, Wilshere and Rosicky providing for them.

  17. stevepalmer1 says:

Wouldn’t disagree Wath, we could do with a couple of players to shore us up a bit hopfully we will get them.

  18. W.A.T.H says:

SP, the problem is when players do the dirty on us like Na$ri then he’s going to get stick and he continues to shoot his gob off as well so quality or not in most fans eyes he’s just a complete and utter knob. I think Arsenal fans in general are very fair with ex-players those that show respect and move on and don’t rock the boat always get a good reception. We all know why players move and we not stupid so if they don’t act up then they’ll get a fair reception.

  19. W.A.T.H says:

I’m parched SP, send me over that case of GG i sent you as back up please mate am in dire need 😉

  20. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning Lewis, it always hurts when we lose good players, when i look at these competitions i am amazed at how many ex Arsenal players are playing at this level and although some have shouted their mouths off they still wore the shirt and done a job for us. Arsenal get some bad press at times but we certainly have had some good talent pitty we didn’t have them all here now.

  21. Scott From Oz says:

We’ve really got same cannons of left footers, too.
Podolski, people say Giroud can let rip,Campbell belts them and RVP….

  22. Will says:

I can’t stand Na$ri as we ALL know he went for the money but he still crows that he went for titles. I think he played 45 minutes total this season.

  23. stevepalmer1 says:

I don’t believe you would ever get Parched Wath 🙂 i make sure i don’t.

Morning Will, The refereeing will decide this competition without question, Struck me How Platini was sitting with all his mates last night and when they scored and all jumped up and cheered he looked like he wished he were sitting somewhere else strange when he probably knows who’s going to win it anyway

  24. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I’ll be so confident if we can get M’Vila and Giroud in before the start of the season – given up hope of getting an AM now.

  25. Tomo says:

@sport_trend: #ARSENAL: The transfer of Arsenal bound M’vila is formally sanctioned to go ahead by a Stock Exchange in #France where the sale is listed

  26. vernat1066 says:

Morning, rumour I saw this morning said that Cassano would be available for around £7 million, I know he is a bit of (understatement) a lunatic but at that price and with the undoubted quality of the player he could well be worth the risk.

  27. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I hope Jack can pick up where he left off but it’s important to give him time like Ramsey to come back to his normal level. Other people should be able to deputise – one thing is for sure, if we do get M’Vila we’ll be well stocked in central midfield, no excuses for fatigue.

Re Cassano, I’d take him but only if RVP leaves – we can’t get too clogged up in the forward areas.

  28. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I don’t see the point in that personally. He’d get enough games – our players are always dropping like flies. If we get rid of people like Diaby, Denilson, Lansbury and send Frimpong out on loan – that should lighten the load in the centre.

  29. W.A.T.H says:

Lewis, it’s not funny mate we all know he’ll be like a new signing……… For about the 20th time…!!!!

  30. devilgunner says:

    Good Morning again Fine Folk.

I would like to add the following line to the post I wrote this morning regarding the English team. An apt description would be that England are still fighting with double handed swords which rely on strength and are very crude, while the rest of the world has progressed to those fine swords used by the samuria…the Katana, a light sword crafted by cunning.

  31. devilgunner says:

Good point Rico..I enjoyed watching Shevchenko put those away. It was a throwback to the Wright and/or Henry predatory instincts. At least I saw that oaf Ibrahimovic loose. It made it more worthwhile.

  32. Romford Pele (HC) says:

How many do you want to keep?

As it stands, these are our central midfield options providing we get M’Vila:

    M’Vila
    Song
    Arteta
    Wilshere
    Ramsey
    Frimpong
    Coquelin
    Diaby
    Denilson
Rosicky can also play there too.

Trying to keep all these guys happy will definitely prove problematic.

  33. Will says:

Ramsey on loan till Christmas to regain his confidence, Diaby will be injured, Jack will take 3 months to get his mojo back and Denilson can leave.

  34. devilgunner says:

Will I agree. Romford……….you forgot the small matter of the OX who can also play there.

  35. Will says:

Rosicky will be a squad player and Coq is the future. If we don’t get M’Villa we will be stuck with Song as the DM and that worries me.

  36. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I agree that Ox can play in the middle but I don’t expect to see him there for the foreseeable future. I reckon Wenger will let him continue his development on the wing – he only played in the centre against Milan because of the lack of options.

For me, sending Ramsey out on loan is a pointless exercise. Him having a fresh summer and a full pre-season is all he needs to regain confidence. The only reason you’d wanna send him out on loan is a clear signal that you don’t trust him. He’s got nothing to learn on loan playing with inferior players. The guy already has the talent, just needs to produce it on a consistent basis in the first team set-up.

As for Coquelin, he is for the future but he’s also for the now. The fact that he can play in a variety of positions means he’ll be a valuable squad player to have around. I agree on M’Vila though – he should be our number one priority, ahead of Giroud IMO.

  37. Romford Pele (HC) says:

The ones I’ve mentioned above; Diaby, Denilson, Lansbury and Frimpong on loan. Maybe even Song if he doesn’t sign a new contract.

  38. stevepalmer1 says:

Will, if your still about, I think it will all depend on who we might buy, we know we are overloaded with players, and we have all been calling for a clearout of what we consider deadwood. Contracts are what will determin who may go, those on long contracts are the ones hard to get rid of especially if they have not been seen to much, as enquireries will not be flooding in. The players who have made it known that they consider their Arsenal days over will stand the best chances of leaving Bentner Arshavin, Vella Chamakh Fabianski Almunia maybe Djourou and Squillaki Diaby may be allowed to leave as well, so quite a few would maybe make room, and not forgetting Dennilson.

  39. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I meant sell Lansbury, even though I’m a big fan of his. He’s 22 now but the guy has never really been giving a chance. With other youngsters like AOC, Wilshere and Ramsey infront of him, I doubt he’ll get a chance.

  40. Will says:

I agree with that list Steve but I want Wenger to perform his square peg, round hole miracle with JD and turn him into a proper DM, I can see it in him.

  41. Romford Pele (HC) says:

Why would you turn JD into a DM when there’s Song, Frimpong, Coquelin and potentially M’Vila – pointless if you ask me. Take the £10m Napoli are offering and run with it.

  42. stevepalmer1 says:

He impresses me too Will, but we don’t see enough of him. I honestly believe he could be massive but i have been waiting for what seems forever its either now or goodbye

  43. Romford Pele (HC) says:

He is by trade, it’s just that Wenger has no interest in grilling players on positional sense – hopefully Bould can address this.

  44. stevepalmer1 says:

Sorry Will i read that wrong i thought you meant Diaby not JD to be honest i would sell JD 10 mill snap their hands off

  45. stevepalmer1 says:

Will you may be thinking height but i would sell both JD and the BFG i could never trust either one of them i may turn out to have it wrong about both of them, but right now i’de sell

  46. Romford Pele (HC) says:

Exactly and who’s thought is that. Santos gets caught out of position too. The whole Arsenal team is positionally awful bar Koscielny and Sagna *man crush*

Wenger needs to sort it out. We shipped 49 goals this season – Song
Is partly to blame but the whole team needs to share it as well. If we have hopes of winking the title next season, 30 is the maximum we should be conceding.

  47. Will says:

We need a Dm who can stem the high balls pumped toward our box. I am fed up watching a CB having to break the line to come out and deal with it. Having a 6’+ DM able to challenge for the ball leaving the defenders to defend the second ball would be a huge advantage.

  48. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I’m not disputing that M’Vila is a vast improvement on Song defensively – all i’m saying is that he alone won’t resolve the problem. Everyone needs to do their part, that’s part of the problem. Too many passengers when it comes to the defensive aspect of the game.

  49. Will says:

I agree RP but the primary job of the DM is to defend and protect the defence, Song does not do that and is constantly up the pitch trying to find the perfect pass to the forwards (which he has done to be fair to him)

  50. stevepalmer1 says:

I was and still am, hopeing that Vertonghen could have filled that spot i think he could be perfect

  51. Romford Pele (HC) says:

I agree with Vertonghen – the only problem (bar the fact he wants to join those lot) is that it’s hard to keep 4 international CBs happy, part of the reason Djourou is leaving. He wants to start, part of the reason he’s choosing Spurs. And he’s not that much of an upgrade on Song in DM IMO.

  52. rico says:

We’d still have two Poles then devil…. 🙂

    Romford, I wanted Jussi..

    Wath – Green isn’t that good 😉

  53. Romford Pele (HC) says:

Yeh Jussi would’ve been a good shout but with Flappy getting injured, I can’t see us going in the market. Hope I’m wrong though.

  54. KM says:

If Wenger was ruthless, he’d shift out Mertersacker & DJ…..who is shite and bring in Vertoghen. Bring in Miquel and Bartley as 4th & 5th choice CB’s.

  55. rico says:

Got to give Merts a chance KM, Kos wasn’t that good in his first season….

This league is a tough one for some to get used to…

Just why we should have got Cahill and would have done had AW made a proper offer….

  56. Will says:

Exactly Lee, you don’t play for that lot if you are a mug. HE just needs to get used to the speed of our game.

  57. rico says:

Me neither Lee, slow, clumsy and for a tall guy, he doesn’t get his head on much…

But yes, he’s not a german international for nothing but then again, JD plays for Switzerland 😉

  58. Charlie George aka AK says:

    You too Rico.
    Der Merts is ok.
Picking on him just because he ain’t cute…
    It’s not fair… 🙂

  59. Merlin96 says:

    Afternoon folks.

I had been plugging for JD to be our DCM as we lack height and physicality in the middle.

Forget about M’vila. He is French, too expensive and I doubt he is thna much better than those we are haivng here, namely:
Song, Arteta, Diaby, Wilshere and Coquelin….plus Yennaris, Aneke and Toral.

It is a matter of tactical formaiton and change of tactics to suit the players we had, and to learn form last season.

My article on it is still only a quarter cooked and hope to get it out of my head in 2 weeks time. I had faith that we will come good and I hahd the statistics to prove it

But it is not a DCM that is FIRST PRIORITY, but really a creative playmaker like David SIlva or Juan Mata or Modric.

    WHo knows.
Wenger may keep Arshavin to lure that CSKA Moscow playmaker Dogezev?

It is kind of hard to emulate or clone this 2007/08 Rosicky-Flamini-Fabregas-Hleb.

We need a terrier-like “FLamini” with an Engine that can run all day.
We need a “Hleb” that can hold the ball and extremely difficult to knock off the ball (Arshavin anyone?)

We need a “Rosicky”…perhaps OX is the “ROsicky” circa 2007/08???

    A “2007/08 FAbregas”?
Taht is the one we need to buy first folks…not M’vila.

  60. stevepalmer1 says:

The only way we’ll see the best of him is if he starts and finishes on the bench. We need to buy a proper guy and not a rushed buy.

  61. agirlagunner says:

Boo!! You know it’s a slow news day when the latest on the Arsenal page at Newsnow is: “The activity of a bacterial effector protein seen in molecular detail.”

    Lol.

  62. Will says:

Rico, be fair on the guy. He turns up, plays with midfielders as full backs and how many partners at the beginning of the season? I thought he did pretty well and yes, he can be a tad hesitant when the ball is bouncing but that could be down to playing with new players and not knowing what they are going to do. I say, give him a second season before you judge him.

  63. agirlagunner says:

Hi, rico! 😉 Busybee? Holiday here. Hi, WASH! Howdy?? You teetotaling? Can’t be true! Hello, Lee, SSP, Shopping Buddy, Will and Merlin!

  64. stevepalmer1 says:

Will, defenders are two a penny, a guy who hesitates has no pace never heads a ball and can only pass sideways should be playing for spuds, He may be German but i reckon wenger found the slowest one in the world

  65. rico says:

Merlin, i have to disagree strongly, we create many chances, but we lack discipline in the centre of midfield and have far too many gaping holes when the oppo attackk, DM first and foremost imho….

  66. Will says:

I am going to swim against the tide on this one and stick with my principles and say, I think you guys will be surprised next season. 75 caps for the Germans by the age of 27 says to me, he is pretty decent.

  67. rico says:

    Boo to you agag 😆

Will – I just said that earlier about giving him a chance this season, like Steve though, he’s not for me, I would have much rather we had signed Cahill…

  68. stevepalmer1 says:

Hi Agag, hope your well, you must be having the time of your life with all these coloured football boots being worn have you any in your wardrobe

  69. stevepalmer1 says:

Thats probably the problem Will he done it all in the past, even the Germans don’t want him playing

  70. Merlin96 says:

Hi AGAG, how is the weather over there?
    Hurricane season started yet?

    Mertesacker?
He works better with Kos as TV5 is a liability comes to 1-on-1.
And knowing Per has no pace, but superb positioning and organisational ability, an erratic TV5 is a bad partner and shows up the worse attribute of Per – lakc of pace and mobility.

How many times we had seen Kos bailed out TV5 when he missed his man and miss a tackle?

    2012/13 season?
The first name on the lsit should be KOs, certainly not TV5.
Then, Wenger has a choice to select Per or TV5 or Miquel to partner Kos, depending on which team we face – a hard physicla team or teams like Swansea and Norwich with quick attacking forward-line that is highly mobile.

    DOn’t froget.
When Per played, our MIDFIELD was in disarray without cover for Back-4.

    Agreed.
We cna only judge Per next season, with a settled BAck-4 and a settle MDIFIELD that will provide cover for Back-4 with SOnginho playing more like Lothar Matteus rather than Messi.

  71. Charlie George aka AK says:

    Bacterial Effector… ?
    Sounds Swiss.
    Sign him up…. 🙂
    Hi Agag. Still saving i hope… 😀
SP… Leave Merts alone. Go pick on Denilson… 🙂
Hi Rico. Been busy, now it’s slow. Yawn.

  72. agirlagunner says:

SSP, I bought Adidas France sneakers. 🙂 I’m cheering on Kozz. 🙂 I’m trying to forget that Na$ti is French, too. I had to settle for the French since couldn’t find any Netherlands gear. 🙁 I want Spain to lose. And lose badly. Too many Catalans. 😀

    rico, sloooooow news day, indeed!

  73. Merlin96 says:

    Nay Rico,
March/April/May were where we were struggling to create chances.
ANd most chances were created by the brilliancy of Van Persie holding the ball and creating that yard of space with a deft touch and a body swerve and BANG! GOAL!

And we need a DCM to create the msot assists for Van Persie..such that a desperate Wenger fielded Song as our creative playmaker against at WBA!

    Our last 5 games?
We were strugglignt o create chances, let alone scoring ’em.
    Remember Norwich match?
    How many chances we created?

    Against WBA?
How many chances we created?…with SOnginho lobbing all the time?

  74. agirlagunner says:

Merlin, it’s been raining raining raining but it’s still very hot. Icky icky weather.

Charlie (when did you become Charlie, btw??), “saving”, whassat?? 😀

  75. agirlagunner says:

I hope you got something nice, rico. 😉 My day was lovely. A bit hard on the credit card, but hey!! What else do we work so hard for?

I think Merte will be fine. We’ll know for sure this coming season. 😉

  76. Merlin96 says:

    WIlshere?
When will he starts playing again?
    Sept ro Oct or 2013?

    Sagna?
I doubt it is Sept. Most likely Feb/MArch 2013.

I think Van Persie is on a mini-slump and I doubt whetehr he will score any goal in Euro2012.
He will be most likely to be dropped as Dutch fans’ choice is Huntelaar.
Plus Sneijder can’t get along with Van Persie; and most likely will ratehr pass the ball to other team-mates ratehr than Van Persie.

I think Huntelaar will replace an off-form Van Persie.

How many goals did Van Persie scored in April/May in contrast to Jan/Feb?

  77. rico says:

Same as in afc world then Charlie 🙁

Merlin – we’ll have to disagree, first for me is a DM, then a goal scorer, then a keeper and then, Afellay.. 😉

Not suggetsing we couldn’t do with one more, just that would be huge bonus to sign a creative midfielder, not when we look at who we already have…

  78. stevepalmer1 says:

Hi AK can’t say much more about him, he only played a couple of games and they were to many.

Merlin. TV5 has had a little wobble but the guy is quality, that of course is my opinion, he would always be in my starting 11 he has everything needed, but he doesn’t need Merts. We need players that are reliable, players who don’t hesitate players who fill their team mates with confidence, fill our positions with quality and the team will run like a well oiled machine

  79. rico says:

Not really agag, just a few things for the home 🙂

You battered your credit card again, tsk tsk 😉

  80. rico says:

Good Merlin, then he will be fit and rested for next season, the dutch fans want huntelaar playing….

  81. Tomo says:

Rico a guy on twitter check him out sports_trend hes seems confident about thinks if hes right or not i dont no, hope so tho!

  82. rico says:

Chavs looking for a keeper, they can have Flappianski 🙂

Except he tires quicker Will… Love him though and really chuffed for him…

  83. devilgunner says:

Cech was supposed to be one of the top three. Right now given the choice if I would swap Chezzer for him I would say no thanks. Maybe Buffon. In that case yes. But Casillas is not better imo.

One has to keep in mind that Chezzer is only 22

  84. rico says:

Tomo, thanks re the update, don’t know why but you went into moderation 🙁

Not a lot is happening Adam 😉

  85. devilgunner says:

    Well, Well, Well……look at this………..

    Interesting Year 1981
    1. Prince Charles got married.
    2. Liverpool crowned soccer Champions of Europe.
    3. Australia lost the Ashes.
    4. The Pope died.

    Interesting Year 2005
    1. Prince Charles got married.
    2. Liverpool crowned soccer Champions of Europe.
    3. Australia lost the Ashes.
    4. The Pope died.

    Lesson to be learned:
The next time Charles gets married, someone should warn the Pope.

Liverpool need Charles to get married to win the CL

Ozzies hope he never gets married.

    😆 😆 😆

Yes I am Adam, like i said in the post, if all the speculation about M’Vila and Grioud really is true and we sign them, they are the kind of players that he needs to see join, then, get a keeper and Afellay and he’ll sign 😉

  87. Adam says:

Interesting that Liverpool have never won the title since the back-pass rule came into play and Phil Thompson has the record for the most back-passes to the goalkeeper in one game. Just a meaningless piece of football trivia. Rather like the existence of John Terry.

  88. rico says:

    🙂 Adam re Terry etc…

Ah, someone else has too much time then devil 😉

Hope there are many more Adam 😉

back shortly, just going to have dinner….

  89. Lee says:

I think SP wrote something along the lines of this recently, you look at all the teams in the Euros and Arsenal have a connection with most of them!!!

  90. Lee says:

Just been taking the Micky out of my old man he’s been for a MOT and they told him he’s got to join a gym, at 68yrs old!!!

  91. rico says:

Ah, not wuite so bad then Lee 😉

Funny though isn’t it, we think we have a crap squad but so many play for their contry, good point made by SP..

  92. rico says:

68 years old and been told to join a gym – what silly advice, why not just a brisk walk for half an hour a day…

unless they know that your Dad likes chocolate and the gym has a new vending machine Lee 😉

  93. Scott From Oz says:

    Morning guys.
I watched the Aussies draw 1-1 with Japan last night in a WC qualifier.
A few things to come of it.
Firstly, forget Kagawa,Honda of CSKA Moscow was fantastic, just awesome.
    Secondly,forget Jussi(if he’s gone to Hammers),get Schwarzer who,at nearly 40,is still a top class keeper.
Third, though people think of Aussies footballers as more tradesman less artists, which is probably a fair call, one thing they do not lack is heart.
Forget the English effort v France.
If you want to see defensive responsibility and discipline, our game last night is one to watch.
We had a player sent off early, which was just a ridiculous refereeing decision, went down 1-0 and clawed back to get the draw…we even hit the crossbar with a few minutes to go.
Make no mistake, this Japanese side has seem serious attacking power.
So,in short, maybe Arsene could look our way for tough, honest players who will show loyalty, without question.
    He won’t,of course,but it’s a good talking point!!
Devil, popes die infrequently,Aussies lose the ashes at aiut the same rate…….next time one happens,I’ll be headed to the bookie t back the other lol.
    Arsene,but Honda!!!!!!

  94. Lee says:

I’m watching Poland v Russia and if AA played for Arsenal how he’s playing for Russia he’d be a starter every week.

  95. Scott From Oz says:

    Lee,some guys just get homesick.
It may not be the case with Arshavin, but it might be.
I love watching him when he’s at full tilt.

  96. rico says:

Goes back to that question about Wenger being able to handle certain players imho….

    Hi Scott…

  97. Lee says:

It’s on itv Rico, good match. Proof also that you don’t have to spend £30m on players, there’s some much cheaper options!

  98. Scott From Oz says:

I know nothing of him Lee,to be honest.
I do agree with you though.
Geez, everyone’s been giving it to Mertesacker today,
Merlin was actually pretty accurate in his assessment,I thought.
Can’t remember who said it,bit was mentioned he was left out of Germany’s first game.
Well,he was,but it was definitely due to an ankle niggle, else he’d have started…….that’s straight from their manage.
Why do we fans seem willing to give some players a season to acclimatise, but not afford others that same luxury??

  99. rico says:

    Scott –

that was SP and I about Merts, but you forget to add that both of us hope he comes good in second season, its not about giving him a hard time, its about saying it as it is through our eyes.

Isn’t saying we hope he comes good this season willing him to succeed?

  100. Scott From Oz says:

RICO,there’s been big raps on him for about 18 months now.
    Even Arshavin reckons he’s sensational.
Have you guys heard of or seen this Honda guy??
He really looked to be a better player than Kagawa to me.
    Stuck in bloody Russia!!
If he’s to PL quality,I will give it away.
Off to work,so sleep well guys.

  101. Scott From Oz says:

Yeah Rico admit I scanned through quickly.
I just didn’t think he was that bad.
One last thing on Honda, them I’m off,are I say it,he really looks an Arsenal player.
Brilliant on the ball, and a workhorse. See you later guys.

  102. rico says:

    Have a good day Scott…

£40 million for Lewandowski according to the paps Lee, that should keep Fergie away 😉

The Metro reckoned we were looking at Dzagoev, guess his price has gone up now….

Off to sort the chickens and then up the wooden ones, bit of a day today…

Nighty lee and all, and Charlie when he gets here in a bit…

Stay safe and catch up tomorrow….

  103. Will says:

Would hate to see Arry sacked, he deserves better than that.

Giroud, then M’Villa and another top class centre back and I honestly think we are there. Maybe another right back as Sagna is going to out for a long time.

  104. rico says:

That will teach him for spouting about wanting the england job…

Yenarris/jenkinson will no doubt mean no right back..

  105. Will says:

I agree Rico, they have great potential but do you think either could start the season and play the majority of it?

  106. Lee says:

I know one thing, every paper I pick up he’s saggy boat race is plastered everywhere!!
I’m still thinking RVP is off BUT where to, I haven’t got a scooby….would M’Vila,Pod & Giroud be the intent he wanted Arsenal to show him?? I hope so….

  107. rico says:

Wenger didn’t get us cover when we had no fullbacks, Sagna being out for just a few weeks won’t force his hand, he’s too tight…

  108. Will says:

Sadly, I believe you are right Rico and what did we learn at the start of last season when we had no full backs…
