Monreal debut. Time to gel, time to play and time to give the fans something to cheer…..

Morning all,

Well this is it folks, this is the squad we have until the summer.

Diaby is fit, Arteta is back in the squad for today’s game and of course, Fabianski is almost ready to return. Coquelin is also very close to returning but Gibbs, well his return is like a open flight ticket. Who knows when he’ll be back.

But Gibbs being out will now frighten us a lot less now than it did and that’s because on paper, we have finally signed a quality left back, so no more suffering Santos!! Well, not until we face Bayern Munich in the Champions League as our new boy is cup tied.

Hopefully Meade, Miquel and Coquelin should all be available for selection by then and the Brazilian is overlooked.

However, before then, we have a few Premier League matches to address, starting today with Pullis and his lot coming to town and the new boy is just thrilled to be here and part of our future:

Yes, I spoke to Santi, we had a long conversation about things,  I asked how things were here and he only had very positive things to say. He said that Arsenal was a massive club, the people are great and it’s really just a big family. He only had good things to say. I am sure we can be successful this season and I am really looking forward to the challenge.

Yes it does [help that Cazorla has been a success]. It helps that I’ve been able to share a dressing room with him at Malaga, that everything’s gone well and that the people here have been incredible in welcoming me.

As there’s a familiar face in Santi, I’m a lot calmer about things. Having shared a dressing room with someone who’s already made this journey is a good feeling. Now it’s my turn and I can’t wait to follow in his footsteps.

To be honest, when I was given the option to come here I went for it because it’s a massive club, I didn’t even have to think about it.

Of course, there are Spanish players here and a lot of youngsters, which this club is known to attract. I’m delighted to be able to train and play with those guys and I hope my stay here will be the best it possibly can.

I’ve watched loads of Arsenal games and there have been legends that have played for this club. I know everything I can from watching the television and from what Santi has told me in this relatively short period of time.

Monreal is right, there are plenty of legends in football who have played for OUR club.

There is plenty which is good about OUR club.

There is history in OUR club which can never be taken away.

We need each and every one of our players to realise that they are here to play not only for OUR history, but for OUR future.

What that future will be, only time will tell, but for the sanity of all us fans who love OUR club, may the boys give their all from today onwards.

If they do, good results will follow……

Now let’s smash that lot from Stoke!!!

Have a good day all…..

    Morning Rico,
That was a nice welcome for Nacho.
I have been fortunate to have been offered a ticket for his first match, and will evaluate. Mind you Gibbs has played fairly well, so i will be expecting a debut like no other 🙂

  2. stevepalmer1 says:

Just read your comment again and got it wrong sorry about that. Yes our first halves have been dire but with confidence rising and me in attendance God forbid they come out slow.

  3. stevepalmer1 says:

Although we haven’t spent much in this window, which is anoying we should still have enough to get the job done. Many wanted us to buy a team that win all the time but other teams have many fine players. I feel that although results have not been that great but in all honesty that is down to the team not playing how they can play, hopefully our new LB come winger will help the team settle a bit quicker and flow a lot smoother.

  4. rico says:

Depends what that ‘job done’ is Sp, if you mean beating Stoke today then we should.

If you mean beat BM in the CL and getting to the FA Cup final, and of course secure CL footie next season, then I don’t think we will achieve any of those…

  5. stevepalmer1 says:

In all fairness Rico, had we brought half a dozen players we would still not know what were capable of, but we didn’t, and we have what we have. I get bloody annoyed when i see the way were playing, knowing that everyone of those players could step their game up, Wenger gets his fair amount of stick but we all know we can do better than we have been, and i still believe we have a team when trying that will be a good match for anyone.

  6. rico says:

I get what you are saying Sp, and it takes us back to the question, why can’t AW get more out of this group, most are full internationals – but no-one knows the answer to that question.

My assumption is he can’t and doesn’t have it in him anymore.

  7. stevepalmer1 says:

Would you say the same about old RedNose his players are not fireing on all cylinders granted they are top of the league but he cannot be 100% happy i know has he lost that edge or are some of his players not giving their all.

  8. Brass B. says:

shoot me if u can if i’ll ever stop telling u @ sp and rico to dummy up and watch us play stoke b4 u continue with ur lamentations!

  9. stevepalmer1 says:

Look at us with Theo, we didn’t want him sold but we still get frustrated with him when we feel he should put more chances away. Mertsacker was brought in to stiffen the back four up and win high balls which he has but his a carthorse he has no pace so when beaten he gives up. We can talk about every player in our team and criticise them, but on another day they show you why Wenger brought them in the first place. A Manager picks the team after that its down to the players.

  10. stevepalmer1 says:

Morning BrassB, wouldnt shoot an Arsenal supporter as we don’t know how many we will have at the end of the season. 🙂

  11. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Good morning
January was finished. We are not in the 4th place. We are not so far but one month ago, we were more or less at the same position and distance of the 4th place. The distance for the first place is higher now. Arround us, there are also a few teams.
Our target can be reach but we must do it quickly.
Hope we win today. With goals

  12. agirlagunner says:

Go get another tin, rico. You might need it after. Haha.

JM, the only way to win is with goals. 😀 You have a new gravatar?

    Brassb, erm…

  13. stevepalmer1 says:

Hiya Agag, Hope your well. Keep our fingers crossed today i have a good feeling, so i hope to see Nacho do his bit, by that i mean a goal. see you all later.

  14. agirlagunner says:

have fun, SSP. 🙂 🙂 I hope the post-match shots of GG are celebratory!!

rico, haha. These days, I brace myself for the worst when it comes to our team… 😕

  15. Marinello says:

Hi Rico, SP1, Agag and all you Gooners,
I was surprised but not shocked at our new signing. With Gibbs being out for quite some time, Wenger had to sign someone. Santos may well turn out to be a good player, eventually, but not as a full back.
I agree with all SP’s observations about Mertesacker, and I was surprised that he played against Liverpool, he was up against quick and tricky front men in Suarez and Sturridge, and just has no pace. for a big man coming up for corners and set pieces, he appears to pose no real threat at all.
Still think that we needed another experienced Keeper to give Czesny competition.
And so to Stoke City today, another game where if we are not on our game defensively, Stoke have the players to punish you.
I fancy a 3-1 result to the Arse.

  16. DutchGooner10 says:

    Hiya Gooner Familia,

Back in town, connected to the world again, mobile internet is just as addictive as heroin I warn you. I feel the rush again. Like a first timer. Spoon feed and candle light. 😉

I’m sitting ready, sporting my kit, crest on chest and wearing my self-made Pullis mask.

  17. agirlagunner says:

Hello, Marinello. I agree about Szczesny; someone should be seriously challenging him at GK. I think he has had some truly awful games.

Hey ya, Dutch. Howdy? Where have you been? 🙂

    Scott, I like that!

  18. DutchGooner10 says:

Our new chant to the tune of Macho Man from the Village People.

Na-ch-o Na-ch-o man, everybody wants a Nacho man!!!

  19. Will XL says:

I just pray that the new guy has a good game. Otherwise he’ll be judged for the rest of his time here.

This team is good enough for top 4. Of the two teams directly above us, there are only 3 or 4 players who would add anything to our squad. That tells me that we only need to play to our potential.

I always back the gunners for the win because I know what we are capable of. Consistency is key for this squad.

  20. DutchGooner10 says:

    Howdy Agag,

Been busy counseling creative marketing and such. Not a time for transfer window forcefields and Bollocks. Also my phone died, right on the dot of contract renewal would you believe it? Bastards always shake me out upside down for my spare change.

All phones available are over 6months, not gonna pay full price for tech that old. February is launch period, I’m gunning for a phablet (cross between tablet and smartphone.)

  21. goonster says:

Have anyone seen the team list? i ll go for sir chesny sagna kozzer mert nacho libre diabeast rambo jack the ripper santi theo and HFB! poldi and tr7 to come in as substitutes.

  22. tsGH says:

Afternoon all, morning Scott and Oz

Poo-lis pre-match team talk is basically ‘rip the Nancho’s bloke a new one’.

Did anyone watch the QPR match earlier? If that is football then… Cesar was excellent as always though.

Allegedly QPR have used 50 different players since they got promoted and are still in a relegation battle.

  23. rico says:

Team in full: Szczesny, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Diaby, Arteta, Wilshere, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Giroud.

Subs: Mannone, Jenkinson, Santos, Ramsey, Rosicky, Cazorla, Podolski.

  24. ozgunner10 says:

Scott – so we score 2 and Monreal gets a hatrick?? Own goal coming then mate 🙂 – how ya doing bud?

  25. tsGH says:

Yes he was…He is a solid performer, Rico. He looks like he would not mind being a back up to an Arsenal no. 1 either.

Damn I can’t get over missing out of Cezar though, all over an extra year contract.

  26. ozgunner10 says:

right off to the other room to watch the game – i ned Walcott and Giroud to fire for my fantasy league team and maybe my wallet 🙂

  27. tsGH says:

Not bad at all buddy… I have got the family around. Even my father in law wants to watch my other team Ghana in the AFCON in a minute.

The weather here is not as good as it is for you and Scott for a bbq… He tells me he wears Havana shirts to work whilst smoking a cigar… lol

  28. Will XL says:

    Hey tsgh. Everything good here.

I haven’t been excited about the nfl for a couple years now. I’ll time in intermittently and probably watch the entire 4th quarter of its a close game. Otherwise I’ll just be watching for the commercials.

  29. DutchGooner10 says:

Would’ve switched the Ox for Poldi. Stoke isn’t the sort of game to wait 70 minutes till sub time. Fresh legs over experience might catch Poo-lish by surprise though.

  30. DutchGooner10 says:

Hiya Madam just doing my bit on the consistency front for HH. 😉

People count on our excellent services.

  31. goonster says:

AOC is so poor…….he needs a loan or something. so glad we didnt get zaha. english kids are overhyped!

  32. rico says:

He’s just having a poor run Goonster, but agree, even a loan with a recall if we suffer injury. Somewhere like Reading…

  33. goonster says:

howdy rico, theo is the only bright spot on a dire game. i feel like gluing my eyelids shut. come on arsenal. ffs.

  34. goonster says:

walcott is having a stormer……..looking really good maam. so glad we kept him…….oh ffs AOC get it together.

  35. rico says:

Hey goonie, either would be a good move…

Me too re Walcott, he’s got better too of late….

Can’t believe we haven’t taken one of these chances….

    What a difference a great keeper makes…..

  36. goonster says:

that guy ll be phenomenal as soon as he gets to know his team mates. i ve seen him make intelligent runs behind the opposing full backs without no one spotting him. wilshere did once but the pass was intercepted. what a player we have on our hands. am creaming all over.

  37. goonster says:

can’t wait for the half time whistle………the lads need a rocket up their asses or something. really dire. yuck!

  38. goonster says:

foy is fergie’s dog…..what do you expect maam? we ll turn them over in the second half. poldi and santi to come on in 6oth minute.

  39. rico says:

    He sure looks good goonster…

Now for an even better second half and finally get one passed this keeper….

  40. tsGH says:

Esp.. he looks like a typical fergie signing … Plus poo-list selling to us? AW will rather go for a dribbling goalie than a blind goalie… lol

  41. Will XL says:

As usual, stoke is being very disciplined. I think we’ve done well to create some clear chances. Should be 2 or 3 up.

The full backs are key here. They are being a little cautious. But a well timed overlapping run will unlock them.

  42. Scott from Oz says:

Plenty of time…..we will conjure a winner.
Rico, Oz……..your prizes are on the way 🙂
    Intentional mistake, honestly, really, truly….

  43. rico says:

Agree esp and he’ll be for sale now they have signed Butland….

The right 3 changes could win us this game…….

I can vouch for Scott’s mistake being deliberate 😛

  44. DutchGooner10 says:

Sub Time. Give Poldi 30 minutes instead of the proverbial 20.

And mix it up guys. Don’t fall into the siege mentality. Shoot at sight once in a while. Jack in the box please.

  45. True Gooner says:

And we will yet again hear how Pulis is a tactical genius and how well organised Stoke are when in reality, they just stick 9 men at the edge of the area and hoof the ball away.

  46. True Gooner says:

Oh and it would be nice for some protection from the ref. Yet again we are getting our arses handed to us and the ref does nothing.

  47. tsGH says:

😀 some say it is due to a lack of plan b from AW when even Barca can not break down Celtic over 2 legs playing the same way.

  48. tsGH says:

What I meant at 4:30 was that we have too many technical players and less grafters to break this Stokey resistance. Apologies if it appeared offensive. honest.

  49. rico says:

Poor poor poor Kos, that must have hurt like heck…

But just a yellow for that s***e called Shawcross???? Pffff

  50. rico says:

I want to see a replay of that foul on Sh***cross… Not to see Kos squirm but surely that was a red…

We missed out on Sissoko didn’t we……..

  51. agirlagunner says:

Positive football wins. Inept (bent?) officiating and Orcs, notwihtstanding. Our players got so little protection.

I loved how Wilshere squared up to Owen. Now that boy bleeds Arsenal. <3

  52. tsGH says:

we surely did Rico. re Sissoko… the only thing that can take away that disappointment is E.Capoue wearing the Red top come 1st June

  53. DutchGooner10 says:

LOL ESP indeed ……..1-0 to the Arsenal.

Must be a crazy sight for people when I enter the superstore with my Poo-lish mask in an hour or so.

  54. True Gooner says:

At least I know it’s just not me seeing it. Wilshere gets battered every week and we hardly get free kicks let alone cards against the other team.

  55. Scott from Oz says:

I am off to bed, and can sleep well knowing we got the points against that mob of arseholes.
    Have a great day all.

  56. rico says:

    Night Scott

Dg – not sure, may maybe up to 5th.

Oz – agree, but Stoke have one of the meanest defences this season… I’m just glad for the 3 points….

  57. rico says:

I think the Capoue ship has sailed Ts. Another good season and his price will be way beyond anything our lot would sanction.

  58. Will XL says:

Good, positive football from us again. Deserved the win. Monreal. Did well on his first game. The defenders handled the long balls pretty well. We should have wrapped it up in the first half. I should have used bullet points.

  59. agirlagunner says:

DG, I hadn’t realized you were a techie! 🙂 I have the most pathetic phone. 🙂

Ugh. I hate that Shawcross. Stoke got away with murder so it gives me great joy to see them lose.

  60. rico says:

Sure is Oz. Something to build on hopefully. Hopefully……

I thought we were nervous to start with Will, but grew in confidence as the game went on….

Oops, sorry, that’s what I think Wenger will say 😉

  61. rico says:

Tg – we all know we get nothing from the officials. At least Foy grew a pair for the goal. But he’d been pretty grim until then….

  62. agirlagunner says:

Monreal tired in the second half; but all in all a neat debut! And a winning one, too.

I was so sure that Foy was born without, rico. 😀

  63. rico says:

I didn’t notice any major problems down our left agag but its hard to see everything on a stream

Thought he was solid on what I could tell if that makes sense……

  64. agirlagunner says:

He was solid, rico. Not afraid to go forward either. Pretty neat with his passes but there was a spell when he gave quite a number away. 🙂

  65. DutchGooner10 says:

    League Table

1 ManU – 59p one game in hand
    2 Shitty – 52p ogih
    3 Chavs – 46p
    4 Scum – 42p ogih
    5 Everton – 42p
    6 Arsenal – 41p
    7 Dippers – 35p ogih
    8 Swans – 30p

  66. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Sunderland next away.
Was a hard game but we can’t forget we have played Wednesday an important match.

  67. DutchGooner10 says:

    NOW PLAYING

    Fulham – Judas & friends

    SUNDAY 3RD FEB SCHEDULE

    West Brom – Swamps
    Shitty – Dippers

  68. DutchGooner10 says:

    Rico sorry made a typo

Swans (8th) are on 34p not 30. Same as West Brom sitting 9th. If they beat the scum tomorrow and dippers loose, West Brom will leapfrog to 7th.

  69. emma says:

Just watched Nufc and cfc highlight. Sissoko single handedly destroyed chelsea. I was crying all along that we should get him. Capoue is still there if we are interested. He did very well yesterday despite being on the losing side.
Good win by the men today. Don’t mess with nacho’s head, it’s made of steel

  70. DutchGooner10 says:

    Joaquim

Sunderland leak more goals than they score. Goal difference -5, goals scored 28, goals conceived 33.

Arsenal scored 49, conceived 29 – 20+ goal difference. Arsenal netted 5 more than Shitty (45) in 2nd place.

  71. tsGH says:

Re 5:13 I think the board get a commission on doing the scouting work for the bigger or should I say ambitious teams. So again we sniff around better players for 2-3 players and then make the player known by the world and in the end end up losing out to big money clubs. The plus is he refused PSG allegedly…

You know we are a feeder club when even Stokey are signing Arsenal trialist. lol

  72. tsGH says:

Emma … you know he would be the one who ends up kicking us to the Europa league on the last day of the season…

Brilliant day. All results went well for me including Ghana winning.

  73. tsGH says:

Frimps on the bench. will he do the deed on Judas for us, our will Dg’s country man keep him away from the best Dutch player at the moment?

  74. DutchGooner10 says:

If only………… a DM/CB in the summer window 2012 had been brought in.

Shitty leaked 19 goals so far, 10 less than our lot. Hmmmm.

Emma I agree on Sissosko, hope his spin doctor got him a Diame-sque release clause.

  75. tsGH says:

Emma did you catch the PSG vs Toulouse match? Toulouse were hammered by Pastore. It looks like Capoue’s head is gone completely. He looks like a man who knows that he would not be there next summer. 😉

  76. DutchGooner10 says:

    Hiya Ginge

Ghana through to the semis? How is our forehead doing, still scintillating? Laugh my ass off if he becomes tournament topscorer.

As Rico mentioned 2 home wins tomorrow and a marvelous weekend is completed.

  77. emma says:

tsGH – you are scaring me now with that final match of the season. I hope we have enough pts to qualify before the final match of the season. Capoue had an ok performance against the petro-dollar yesterday. But they were not helped after the sending off of Mbengue in the first half. Sissoko was a big coup by nufc. The ship has sailed now, no need crying over a spilled milk. I hope we capture Capoue in the summer but am pessimistic about it cause the price will have gone higher

  78. DutchGooner10 says:

    Emma / Ginge

Maybe Wenga kept his powder dry for the summer. He needs leverage for his last contract year, or the board already warmed him up for technical director, which could explain the loan exodus and relatively damp window action. Leaving a tidy ship plus substantial transfer kitty for the next manager.

  79. agirlagunner says:

emma, Shawcross is good for nothing but inflicting injury on opponents. Of course, he’s not that kind of player. 😉

  80. emma says:

agag – I was astoned by Pullis comment. The game plan was to put 11 men behind the ball and kick our players when we go past them and he almost succeed. Funny when stoke conceded they brought in 3 attackers. Shawcross is not a footballer neither are the stoke team. It should be stoke rugby team.

DG – I doubt Wenger will be leaving soon. I feel he is building a new team and honestly think he will add 2/3 experienced players int he summer. His summer and winter buys have being so good. More of that in the summer and we will be challenging for the league

  81. tsGH says:

😀 that was not my intention at all Emma. I do not think I have regretted we missing out on a player as much as Sissoko because he was basement cheap and even if the plan was to make a last week bid for him, we could have still made a last ditch attempt. Unless of course like Mbiwa he refused the chavs (and possibly us allegedly) because he wants to be first choice and it was only NUFC who would guarantee that.

  82. tsGH says:

Hi Agag, Pulis and his thugs deeds should never shock you. The moment he puts on that baseball cup he is like a scum. I have heard him speak wearing a suit and I was surprised he was the man talking.

The unwritten rule is when it comes to the team with most foreigners :do as thou wish’. lo

  83. agirlagunner says:

emma, he says he is disappointed by Arsenal players. Huh?? Well, we are disgusted by your thugs and how you have coached them.

  84. agirlagunner says:

Ginger, what is worse is that they were allowed to get away with murder. But Sagna is booked the first time he does it. 😉

  85. DutchGooner10 says:

    Emma

If we don’t make 4th trophy, a heafty transfer kitty could swing support from the crowd for his last contract year.

BTW Agag, Rico, Emma I need some ideas for a Ladies Day. Any intriguing experiences to share? Love some. Tnx.

  86. tsGH says:

Agag-Its always the same every home game with us. I watched the QPR match earlier today and the things defenders got away with was shocking. Worse than the Kos foul on Dzeko with any cautions at all.

  87. tsGH says:

Poo-lis: “The disappointing thing for me was the number of Arsenal players that surrounded the linesman. I thought that was something you couldn’t do,” Pulis told Sky Sports News.

“If he has given the right decision, he has given the right decision. You take it on the chin and get on with it.

“I haven’t got a clue what offside is now. When the linesman gives it offside, the way that Arsenal players surround the linesman, and the referee then goes over, I thought if there were more than five players, you’re not supposed to do that. The referee has reacted after that.”

I would LOVE to hear MoTD’s take on the alleged offside goal which Stoke think was unfairly allowed. I bet Alan Hansen has prepared a speech already. 😉

  88. agirlagunner says:

He said: “The disappointing thing for me was the number of Arsenal players that surrounded the linesman. I thought that was something you couldn’t do.”

I thought breaking legs was something you couldn’t do, too, rico. 😉

  89. DutchGooner10 says:

No romance being build Agag. No dinner for two or getting lost in heaven. 😉 It’s an event thing, preceding a theatre show.

  90. DutchGooner10 says:

    Ladies Day

Champagne, chocolate fountains, goodie bags, work shops all female engaged. Need some extra wow factor. Which is why I’m asking.

I better ask Kev, Stan, Lee or Adam I guess…. Lmao

  91. agirlagunner says:

Dutch, people always flock to areas where liquid nitro cocktails are mixed. 🙂 Just make sure the gas evaporates before the ladies start drinking.

HunGooner, the new boy did well. 🙂

  92. rico says:

Right guys, Saturday night and I’m off to catch up on the ‘planner’ – Tom Daley and ‘Splash’ is first up, followed soon by casualty….

3 points on the board, so that has to be good….

Night all, be safe, wherever you are or whatever you are doing…..

  93. DutchGooner10 says:

Agag thought about Tom Cruise/ Cocktail as well but its an afternoon matinee. On top of that the Ladies Day is a lead-in for a tragi-comedy, bit of hush between laughs is needed. 🙂

  94. HunGooner says:

Now that is a relief after a crazy day in the office…

So I assume he did not walk onto the pitch holding a kebab 🙂

  95. tsGH says:

Dg its a difficult one really. It depends on the persons likes and dislikes. Jordino always does the trick for most isn’t it? lol

  96. agirlagunner says:

Okay, let me think about it again, Dutch. 🙂 We don’t have that here, emma. There are hardly any British shows here, actually.

  97. DutchGooner10 says:

Emma LOL I’m not organizing a meat market. Only Ladies allowed for the event.

I know, I know …… Rico’s chickens will seem angels by the end of that day. 🙂

  98. Scott from Oz says:

    Morning all.
It’s Australias (hopefully) next Gunners birthday.
Sean is 7 today, so happy birthday to my boy.
He is better looking than me.
    Smarter than me.
A better footballer than me, and every decent post attributed to me has actually been when i am asleep and he jumps on, so he is modest as well.
Though, i am sure you all suspected that 🙂

  99. Scott from Oz says:

Funny, but Pulis failed to mention the numeroustims his players surrounded officials when his players were pulled up for comitting fouls.
    Hypocritical tosser.

  100. W.A.T.H says:

Happy Birthday to Sean from us all Scott, I knew far to many of your comments were to decent to of been yours 😉

    I’m off ni night….!

  101. potter says:

    You break peoples legs ,
    you break peoples legs
Ryan Shawcross you break peoples legs.

Bet the T.V cut that out.

Shawcross left foot a foot off the ground ALL the way and planted at Koz’s little boy…how could it not a fucking RED. The ref was shocking all night on major and minor decisions; would love to hear what the head ref would say!!!!

Don’t mind if our players got cards if deserved but Shawcross broke Koz’s little boy we are down a CB and Wenger can’t panic buy like he did with Nancho when Gibbs started his annual leave…
