Morning all.
It’s quite sad to read the quotes from Alexis Sanchez in the newspapers this morning. Fancy moving to another club, yet despite earning £500k a week, you’re as miserable as sin. Going to work day after day but you hate it. Such a scenario goes on daily for many ‘ordinary’ folk but without the vast wages. I’d stay in a job which paid me that kind of money, well, for a few months and then leave because I’d never have to work again. I’d be a millionaire five times over in just six months. Man Utd must have been an absolute mess of a club under Mourinho if Alexis wanted his contract to be ripped up on day one and return to Arsenal. He’d wanted a move to Man City but Arsenal blocked it at the last minute. A costly error in so many ways.
“I remember the first training session I had, I realised a lot of things,” Alexis said. “After the session I got home and I told my family and my agent ‘can you not rip up the contract to go back to Arsenal?’.
“They laughed, I told them there’s something that doesn’t sit right, it doesn’t seem good. But I already signed, I was already there.
Another thing worth remembering is how damaging some of the pundits make can be. They’re ruthless at times yet they’ve not a clue of what’s going on inside a club which could be affecting a player. Nor do they know of any personal problems a player might be going through. Scholes and Neville were very critical of Alexis during his short time at Utd.
The swap deal which saw Alexis go to Utd and Mkhitaryan to Arsenal must be one of the worst deals in the game. Not quite as bad as the Gallas/Cole deal, but not far off. For Ashley Cole it was great, for Arsenal, dreadful. Funny how things work out though as both Alexis and Mkhitaryan ended up in Italy, playing against each other once more.
I’m not a fan of swap deals at all, especially when Arsenal aren’t the club initiating the deal or getting the player they really want. Rumour had it at the time that Arsene Wenger wanted Martial instead of Mkhitaryan but Mourinho said no. Now that would have been a whole different ball game I reckon as we’d have got a great player in exchange for a great player. Martial is the kind of player Arsene used to love to sign I think and I wouldn’t be at all surprised if his name was in Arsene’s team of ‘I could have signed’ players.
As ‘we’ fans sit back and type furiously on a keyboard about how Arsenal should do this that and the other, it’s worth remembering that just as Neville and Scholes didn’t know what was going on with Alexis, we don’t know what’s going on inside Arsenal. There’s bound to be a plan, we’re just not privileged enough to be in on it. Of course it’s frustrating because everyone wants to know it Aubameyang is signing a contract extension, is Partey coming to Arsenal, or Aurora, is he signing too? Who is leaving and why haven’t they gone yet so the club can spend more money?
Newsnow Arsenal helps no one other than the authors who make money from their transfer rumour headlines. That’s not me being critical, it’s just a reality. Just because France’s version of the Star or Metro suggest Arsenal are chasing a player, it doesn’t mean it’s true. I learned that years ago and now I just wait for Arsenal.com to confirm any new deals. After all, why stress about something which is out of your/my hands?
As Alexis Sanchez found out, one doesn’t always get what one wants in football. Or in life in general.
In transfer rumours, a few of the back pages, including the Telegraph, suggest Arsenal are putting the finishing touches to a deal which will see Dani Ceballos return to the club on loan. Excellent, get it done Arsenal, today!! Lol
See you in the comments guys.
Alexis made his bed.
He chased the cash and he paid the price.
Boohoo and bahahahahaha
Morning all.
Hi Rico and all The good thing about the Sanchez story was reading how he regretted leaving Arsenal, hopefully some of the younger players will read this and think twice about leaving us just to chase more money.
As the saying goes money can buy you a lot of things but it can’t buy you happiness. Wonder how he would be under Arteta
Morning all, Rico
This came off of Twitter yesterday :
Alexis Sanchez has just said on his live video that after signing for United, after the first week he went home and told his family, “Can I break this contract and move back to
@Arsenal?”
He admits he wasn’t aware of his decision at the time and regrets it
And there we have a classic case of an agent prioritising himself and his fee above the player’s quality of workplace life, although Alexis can’t really blame anyone else but himself because he never struck me as the kind of guy who hasn’t a mind of his own and who can’t think things through. What a chump!
Bale went to Real Madrid for the money, he’s been there for years and can’t ask for beer in Spanish and spends most of his time on the golf course. Great move.
Ramsey went for the money and hardly got a game after the manager changed. Great career move.
Players need to learn to think for themselves, not let their agents run their lives.
Kev, he was a mercenary, selfish bastard both on and off the pitch.
Amazing he complains now AFTER taking 500k plus a week for a few years and wants people to feel sorry for him.
How could anyone sympathise for a guy with 50-100 million in the bank?
Geoff, Arteta wouldn’t have copped his shit But then, Alexis would’ve respected Arteta immensely imo
Scott not a good night For your dog wish I had money on 3rd place not to worry there is always next race
Geoff, checked 6 times in the race and still rockets home.
She’s a freak, but the box draws are a joke.
The Alexis Sanchez farce was just another mishandled transfer by an aging Arsene Wenger looking increasingly out of his depth in the transfer market, how could a once so smart operator in the market decline as terribly as Arsene did?
Arteta delegates, he spreads the load, he surrounds himself with people who he trusts and therefore it means he can focus on those things he needs to prioritise, like coaching the team. Ferguson delegated and that’s why he could still win league titles against the ever growing influence of the petro dollar clubs.
I would add Messi to the list if he signs for City, he won’t be happy anywhere except Barca, although I doubt if it would ever happen.
Brian P
Scott, if you scratch the surface I think you’ll find underneath that most footballers are mercenary and we’d probably be exactly the same if we were in their shoes, I most certainly would be. Ramsey for example could have stayed, but he chased his dream & the big bucks and is now watching his career go down the drain, Arsenal have missed out on a lot of players in the past because they were mercenary, it’s the nature of the beast.
What really pisses me off and will do for the foreseeable future was the reluctance of Wenger to sell Alexis and Ramsey when we could have generated up to £100m for the pair.
Why was those decisions not taken, did it have more to do with Wenger’s ego than the good of the club, what do you think? Imagine who we could have signed with £100m?
Sorry Kev, but the truth is Ramsey agreed to a contract, the club pulled it without reason or explanation and I’m not sure why people don’t believe it.
The club has never disputed Rambos version of events.
Not one tiny piece of evidence has ever been produced to show Ramsey may have been lying, but according to many, he is.
Based on????
Just wondering with all these new young and quicker players will Ozil get the hunger back and be a surprise package for us
Geoff, fair question, but the other question is will Arteta even give home the opportunity?
Who knows, but at his exorbitant wage, we need to get everything we can out of Ozil.
Scott. Didn’t Arteta once say he is willing to give any player a second chance as long as they listen and train hard and from what I have read Arteta has always said Ozil has a back injury and when we have had a big win Ozil always congratulates his team mates
It’s an interesting situation, Geoff, and I’m finding it hard to know exactly what’s happening.
Morning Kev, Geoff, all.
I agree, majority of players the money. It rules the game imo. The Sanchez swap deal was a shocker, as was saying no to City’s £60 million offer. Dear old Arsene eh…
One that will always cheese me off too is the selling of Fabregas on the cheap. Yep, and letting Ramsey’s contract rundown not to mention the Ozil contract. Tsk
The truth Scott? I doubt anyone knows the whole truth about the Ramsey situation but if he was offered a contract, he should have signed it..
Anyway, he’s history.
What’s worse Arsene Wenger bad transfer / contract decision or the fact that Arsenal has not learned from those mistakes for example Aubameyang and to a lesser Saka still too slow
To be fair Geoff, it wasn’t until Arteta joined that the future of the club looked settled. Edu too so put yourself in their shoes, would you have committed to a club which was in a mess? Darn sure I wouldn’t have.
The problem we have is the new season starts just around the corner and Arteta should be concentrating on that yet he still talking about who he should sell, loan or even try to buy not to mention Auba contract
Nice one, Rico. I’m glad he’s in Italy now.. used to break my heart seeing him in a United kit!! Was gutted when he left and listening to all that crap about how he supported them as a child, was as bad as another one and his ‘little boy inside’ pass the sick bowl 😂😂
Still no news on Auba or Ceballos. Charles Watts said if all went well with Dani, it’d be announced before the weekend….
Eddie will captain England U21s tonight… I’m going to have to flick between that and the Premier League darts 😉
Nice to see Willian in the training pictures! I don’t like our training gear though, horrible colour that yellow!
Hi Sue agree about the yellow tops watched the interview with Willian, luiz and I think it was Gabriel and on my monitor the yellow tops looked a different yellow each one ( or they fade very quick in the wash)
Hi Geoff.. yes they’re a weird colour and I don’t like the blue ‘Emirates fly better’ either… strange combination!! Give me the home or away shirt, now you’re talking 😉
Rico, player these days seem to be dictated to by their agent.
Money-this is what it does, unfortunately and very, very few players make their own calls, or so it seems.
Never again will a player tell us he will sign whatever contract the club puts in front of him.
Hey Scott, it’s just opinion Digger and maybe the club didn’t say anything on the Ramsey affair at the time because it would have just dragged on the fact that the management team had made such a mess of everything and they just wanted to move on.
If the contract was exactly what Aaron wanted then as Rico said why didn’t he sign it after all it had sat there for quite a while?
You know, the reason he didn’t sign is that his agent was probably seeing if he could get a better deal for Aaron as is his right and his job. The thing is cobber, if a player and his agent can negotiate with multiple clubs and that’s ok, then a club can change its mind and withdraw an offer, as is the clubs right.
Thanks Sue, I like the yellow. The white and pink one too 😂
😆 Rico…
Eddie just scored 📞
And another 📞😆
Hat trick 🔥
Nelson with the 4th!!
Someone once said people choose to believe the rumours for their own agenda!
Anyone can google the Ramsey contract “dispute” and you will find Ramsey quoting that he was ready to sign a new contract and it was pulled by Arsenal!…………………I believe Ramsey…………….. whether it was good or bad is neither here or there!
Kev, I agree totally that the club had the right to pull the deal and I haven’t criticised them for doing so.
As for him taking his time to sign it, I can’t answer that obviously but plenty believe Auba has made his mind up to stay already, yet hasn’t signed yet-these things always drag out and I’m buggered if I can understand why.
Just read Ceballos is back with us-anything locked in, or just rumours at this stage?
Arsenal doing well then Sue..
Pleased to read Dani boy is back. Now for Partey and a clear out…
It’s just been announced, Scott… Dani’s back!! Get in there!!
First T 20 England win by two runs. Just in case you’d see it Scott. 🔔🔔🔔
Great news about Dani Ceballos. 🎵🎵🎵
Ben Sheaf gone to Coventry on loan.
That should be “just in case you missed it”
Exciting win for England, just watched it on record. How, I’m not sure, at 90-0 Aussies seemed to be at a canter. But cricket never ceases to surprise.
Great Ceballos news.
Hahaha Cicero, I didn’t watch it best hear the result.
Apparently our guys were going well but choked a bit.
Sue, In Ceballos’ first stint, he looked another lightweight midfielder to me, but when back after injury, he was a different player.
Arteta influence, him getting used to the League or maybe both but either way, that late season spell showed we needed to keep him if possible.
The squad is really taking some shape now.
A few to go, no question, and maybe another 1-2 in and things look pretty positive.
I agree, Scott… the Arteta effect strikes again 😁 Really glad he’s back to pick up where he left off!
Yes we’re turning into a force once again.. just hope we get Partey and we’re ready to roll!! Really can’t wait for the Fulham game!!
Starting to wonder if Aruba contract is becoming a bit like Ramsey contract I hope not
Sorry spelling mistake should be Aubameyang
Sue, do you reckon we will get Partey?
I don’t know much about him but everything I’ve read says he’s a gun.
Let’s hope it happens.
Geoff, keep the faith mate.
Auba will stay.
Eddie not doing himself any harm last night.
It’ll be better when Eddie’s banging them in for Arsenal. Don’t think it’ll be too long.
New post up now
