Michael Olise linked, Eddie overtakes Shearer and Partey touches down.

Morning all.

Eddie Nketiah had a mixed night for the England under 21’s. No doubt desperate to overtake Alan Shearer’s goal tally, he fluffed a golden opportunity from the penalty spot. However, on 88 minutes he got his goal. Good on him. The more confidence he builds within, the better it is, not just for England but for Arsenal.

The international fixtures are not quite done and dusted, but Thomas Partey has landed in England. In North London and at Arsenal. I can’t recall the last time I looked forward to seeing how a new signing slotted into an Arsenal team, as I do with Thomas Partey. Alexis Sanchez probably. Every new signing is interesting in his own right but this fella could be the answer to many an Arsenal fan’s unanswered prayer. The midfield glue, the power and strength we’ve missed. I really hope Mikel Arteta throws him straight into the first team against Man City.

I always say, if I would be an animal, I would be an octopus. I remember when I was in Almeria they called me the octopus because I stole a lot of balls [by tackling opponents].

He [Simeone] is a different coach, his tactics are different but now I am with Mikel and I have to get used to whatever Mikel tells me to do – I think that is what will help the club.

It’s a great challenge and also in a great family like Arsenal. I’m ready to give it my all and try to help this great club come back to where they belong.

He’s also talked about being an Arsenal fan from a young age, yeah right, his Arsenal idols when growing up and that season, 2003-2004.

In other news, Gabriel swept up the most votes for September’s player of the month award. 72% of those who voted, opted for our Brazilian centre back with Lacazette and Bellerin coming second and third respectively. I think Gabriel has looked right at home in this Arsenal team regardless of who he’s partnered. Once our injured return, a regular defensive partner will only improve the team. As will a settled midfield partner for Partey.

Finally, the window is about to shut on the EFL transfers. Arsenal are being tipped to make a move for Reading’s French teenage winger Michael Olise before Friday’s deadline. According to the Mail that is.

Who knows, if Arsenal still have a few pounds in the bank, perhaps there’s someone in the Championship Mikel Arteta fancies.

See you in the comments guys.

Good morning Rico, our new number eighteen will wear his Christian name on his shirt, so from now on he is known as Thomas.

After reading a couple of interviews with him, he comes over as a humble even shy person, but a committed one too.

A baptism of fire against City will not worry him, he’s played against some of the best clubs in Europe, I’m sure he will cope. I just hope that Mike Riley’s minions don’t take an immediate dislike to his robust style of play.

  2. potter says:

Almost inevitable I would say Cicero . How about a last minute punt on Cantwell from Norwich to go alongside “Thomas “

  3. rico says:

    Morning Cicero, Potter, all.

Makes sense re Thomas, a lot of footballers like their first name on their back. Martinelli is snookered though. Lol

Euphemism of Welsh / American origin. Slang for the male naughty bit , Used by D.H Lawrence in Lady Chatterley and adopted into many Hollywood films.

    APPARENTLY

I believe it needed a majority of votes to go through and it seems that when it became obvious that they were not getting them United and Liverpool backed down and they all agreed this somewhat disengenuous statement .
, “”all clubs agreed to “work together” on a new “strategic plan” for the “financing of English football”.

don’t think that there is a problem with the money for the EFL but the power grab that the above two tried to force through fell into the turkeys and Christmas category,

Wonder if it will leak out where Arsenal , Chelsea , Man city and I suppose Spurs stood on this,

My parents named me John without consulting me first. Until now I have always been quite happy with my name but now I find that I should be avoided. I am hurt and need counselling, I will accept financial compensation, cash only in used tenners please.

Cowards really. If both clubs truly believed in it, they should have voted for it. All they’ve done is stir a very hostile pot. Ditto re the money, to lose lower league clubs would be horrid for the game.

However, from the day the Premier League was named, the divide began. What was wrong with divisions 1-4? Probably nothing.

I really hope Arsenal weren’t in support of the proposal.

  8. Cicero says:

It was a power/cash grab by a couple of greedy American owners. It deserved the instant rejection it got.

The idea of a £250 million hand out to the EFL was a sleazy bribery attempt.

There are things wrong with the relationship between the haves The Premiership, and the have nots the rest of the pyramid.

A lot of the problems for the lower league sides are caused by owners who buy into the clubs without the money to back them. The FA must take a much more rigorous line when it comes to their “fit and proper person” test of prospective buyers.

  9. rico says:

Is it that simple though, ownership? FFP has been damaging I think because clubs have to be self sufficient. Even if the most wealthy of people bought one of the lower league clubs, he/she still wouldn’t be able to hand the manager a couple of hundred million to spend on improving the squad.

England wear white shirts, blue shorts and white socks.

Denmark wear red shirts, white shorts and red socks.

    No clash there!

So therefore England decide to play in all blue and Denmark wear white shirts, red shorts and white socks and look like Poland while England just look shit…

    I’ve turned it off…

  11. allezkev says:

It’s so opportunist Rico, I mean we’re all skint or going skint and all those wankers can think about is selling some Chinese manufactured football shirts.

  12. rico says:

But it’s the nations league Kev… what a joke that is.

Maguire has been sent off.. He really is going through a dreadful patch.

  13. allezkev says:

Agree with the above, Todd Cantwell is a very interesting player, but I’ve seen his fee quoted at £15m and I reckon it’ll be a lot more than that as Norwich continue their fire sale.

  14. Cicero says:

Southgate has much to answer for, to start with three players who are out of form, unfit and just wrong in the head i.e.. Rashford, Kane and Maguire in that order, is asking for trouble and boy did those chickens come home to roost.

I think it was twenty minutes into the game before Kane actually touched the ball. By that time Rashford had given away possession more times than I could count. And then came Maguire….nuff said!!

  15. allezkev says:

Morning Lee, yeah it is isn’t it mate.

Morning campers, morning Rico, I sense a great new post a-brewing.

We seem to be stumbling towards another lockdown in the UK, I do wonder about the competence of those in charge and the veracity of the ‘expert advice’…?

Did no one see this coming and what preparations have they made?

  16. Wavy says:

I’ve got a world beating answer for you Kev,

    NONE.

A more useless set of plonkers we couldn’t have found even we’d unearthed every pebble on the beach,

The irony is the British public voted them in on the basis that they had everything all wrapped up! The only plan I’ve noticed is that they have has been no plan.

I reckon the chances of returning to full grounds full of partisan supporters any time soon is just about nil. The normal we were accustomed to will prove to be the halcyon days of the human race. The new normal is, I think going to be one of near isolation. Not so much the nuclear family more the nuclear cell! Watching our football alone in our arm chairs, with the pied crowd noises appended by speedy editors, for the sake of the new normal atmosphere!

    Happy days.

Oh and Ingerland were crap yesterday. Nothing new there though, eh?

  17. potter says:

Cantwell at £ 15 million would give a better return than say £ 72 million for Pepe add in that he is English , under 21 international supplying Nketiah at that level and is league proven plus we could offer a loan from one of our youngsters say Balogan doesn’t seem too much of a stretch.
Isn’t that what they call negotiation. ?

  18. potter says:

Boris was voted in to deliver Brexit and once that was done the long knives of the Tory party were ready to plunge into him in a modern version of ” ET Tu Govey ” or Hunty Then of course Covid got in the way and no-one wants that job so it’s all lets blame Johnson when all the advice mongers hide behind their desks or find a grassy knoll to snipe from .
Our media peddle blame implying that the government is hopeless whilst totally ignoring the situations in France and Spain whilst lauding such places as Denmark and Sweden which have far fewer numbers in population per square kilometre.but where the numbers are rising just the same
Have they got it right ? NO Have they made mistakes ? YES . Would Starmer , Burnham , Khan have done any better ? Who knows ? Personally I doubt it.
