Lukaku wants Arsenal move. Contracts – plenty need sorting or problems lie ahead…

Morning all.

AllezKev has written this mornings post.

Contracts, contracts, contracts, after transfers and the future of our manager it’s probably the most discussed issue, but what is the current situation of our squad and how relaxed can we be about it long term?

Well I’ve done a bit of digging around and thanks to transfermarket.com I’ve come up with the following…

Now unless you’ve been living in a hole in the forest, all Arsenal fans know that Arteta, Flamini and Rosicky are out of contract this summer, Arteta has already joined the Man City coaching staff. Also at the end of their contracts this summer are Glan Kamara, Emiliano Martinez and Jon Toral. Hopefully moves are already being made to secure the futures of Martinez and Toral…

The summer of 2017 sees the contracts of Serge Gnabry, Isaac Hayden, Yaya Sanogo, Santiago Cazorla, Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker expiring, so it’s a big 12 months for all whether they’ll be moving into that period of their careers knowing they have probably one more big deal to negotiate, or are looking to secure their futures at Arsenal or perhaps elsewhere.

Two years left on a contract is the trickiest for both player and club. It’s when a club can sell a player and still get the maximum return but also when the players hand isn’t quite as strong and for Arsenal the summer of 2018 is absolutely massive in terms of the number of players involved and their value. So our negotiators had better get their arses in gear, pronto…

Arsenal have 12 players whose deals need to be sorted out, preferably this summer, or else next summer could be quite damaging in both the short and long term. There is going to be a lot of uncertainty surrounding our squad if Arsenal drag their heels which could result in a situation where players earn a contract far in excess of their worth and impact next summer as the realisation of a possible exodus sinks in…

Those with 2 years left on their contracts are: Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud, Matt Macey, Wellington Silva, Wojciech Szczesny, Carl Jenkinson, Kieran Gibbs, Joel Campbell, Aaron Ramsey, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere…

Does the club stick or twist?
Does the club risk some of these players going into 2017-18 on existing contracts?
Does the club risk letting the players run their contracts down completely?

Over to you Ivan and Co.

Three years hence and the club will have another major group to renegotiate, but maybe not until next summer, but some of those involved are quite important and the sooner we have them locked into deals the better…

2019 will see 10 Arsenal players out of contract, although I doubt if all will still be at the club.

They are: Petr Cech, David Ospina, Gabriel Paulista, Nacho Monreal, Hector Bellerin, Francis Coquelin, Chuba Akpom, Mathieu Debuchy, Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott.

2020: Calum Chambers, Mo Elneny and Alex Iwobi

2021: Kelechi Nwakali and I think Granit Xhaka…

I’m not sure of the contract status of some of our brightest youth prospects like Dan Crowley, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Gedion Zelalem, Chris Willock, Jeff Reine-Adelaide and Krystian Bielik, so if any of you out there know (Rick) then please enlighten us…

Transfer Gossip:

Italian journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has been at it again after Twitting:

Arsenal aren’t too optimistic after hearing they’d have to pay £50m for Lukaku to Everton.

Informal contact was made yesterday between Arsenal and Everton but in my opinion the deal won’t progress despite Lukaku wanting the move.

Oh well, there’s always Lacazette for £45 million……

Go on Arsenal, break the bank and get Lukaku…..

Finally, well done to Alexis Sanchez and his Chile team-mates for winning the COPA America Cup after beating Argentina on penalties, again…..

Have a good Monday guys….

    Good post Kev, thanks..

    Morning all again..

There’s a whole lot of players with just two years left on their contract and worryingly, Ozil and Sanchez are two of them

  2. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Buongiorno a tutti.

A very informative post mate. I wonder how the AFC team will look in three years time.

Coming to think of it sometimes we take life for granted and do not think in what world we will be in a few years time. I do not know where I will be in three years time….hopefully I will be in what I am thinking right now.

  3. Adam says:

A superbly engrossing post Mr Allezkev.
As for the transfer stuff : Watching Lukaku recently and hearing the words “fifty million” in the same breath seems all wrong somehow. Personally I would offer Real Madrid £150 million for Morata as I believe he is the physical embodiment of a footballing God on earth.

  4. rico says:

Does seem rather a lot of money for Lukaku but I guess that’s Everton trying to keep him. If Juve want Alexis, then Arsenal should be putting a similar price on his valuation, if not more..

Same with any of our players really…

Apparently Morata wants to move to a club who ‘wants him the most’…

  5. rico says:

Hazard seems to have found form at the right time, Belgium look like a team who want to win the competition..

Can’t see France winning it though…

  6. rico says:

I hope he returns and signs a new contract, him and Ozil and finally get a striker with pace and accuracy…

    Morning Ts.

  7. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Kev – Another great and informative article.

The other day I was looking for some papers and came across the 20011 official Arsenal FC calendar. Four of the five players on the cover are no longer at the club – Arshavin, Chamakh, Fabregas and Judas van Pursestrings. Only Walcott is still at the club and of the twelve players, one for each month, only Walcott (again) and Wilshere are still here. Two to five years is a long time in football.

It will be interesting to see how the club prioritize the resigning of the players you mentioned.

  8. Canadian Gooner says:

It will be very interesting to see how quickly the BPL reverts to the old rules regarding the signing of ‘foreign’ players with Brexit on the horizon. Many continental players now plying their trade in Britain’s leagues would not qualify.

  9. Canadian Gooner says:

Kev – 1.) If, and it is a big if (press speculation), Lacazette is priced at 45 and Lukaku at 50 million pounds; will Arsene go the extra mule and try to sign the likes of Higuain or PEA.
2.) Is it more likely he will go after some young prospect like Janssen from AZ?
3.) Or will he wait till the 11th hour hoping Lyon, Everton, etc. will deal for a more ‘realistic’ price.

If the latter it could be another long painful summer for the supporters. I don’t think Goonie can take another summer like the last.

  10. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – There have been rumblings from critics, pundits and from within the FA that ‘foreign’ players are displacing young English players from the top clubs and that is why England don’t do well in international tournaments

Simplistic thinking? Yes, but I bet you a bottle of your best cava that we will be hearing more and more of this as the new season progresses. Turn back the clock to the 1970’s and see if England do any better. I doubt it.

I see the Scots are talking about another exit vote as they want to stay part of the EU.

  11. rico says:

Cg, yes, it’s be going on for years and all because the England team has under performed so often. I think the FA needs to look closer to home for why English players aren’t improving..

Boris has said this morning that everyone will be ok, so we can rest easy… 😉

  12. Canadian Gooner says:

As for Boris and his ‘Stay calm and everything will be alright’ mantra; he has no idea where all this is going. To top it all off he is being touted as as a replacement candidate for Leader of the Conservative Party.

I see the Labour Party is imploding with twelve Shadow Cabinet Ministers/Secretaries resigning in the past few days.

It looks like negotiating Brexit is going to be more painful and drawn out than an Arsenal transfer window. I don’t envy you and your fellow English.

Anyway, enough of that. I know you try to steer the discussions in the House away from politics.

I bid you all a Good Day. I’ll check back between today’s games for Kev’s sage words.

  13. obi says:

    Hi Guys:
Huigain, PEA, Lacazette and Lukaku none of the them is worth 40-50m. If you have that much build a team. Btw this economic turmoil is an example to the FA and BPL if they water down the product through player quotas their revenues and the tv money will fall quicker than Brit stocks. They are watching the financial markets too and they also see the vacuum that has been crrated by Brexit; now they have no idea what’s next. BPL is the most profitable league because of integration not quotas.

  14. allezkev says:

CG, I don’t think Lacazette is worth £45m nor Lukaku £50m, and the way Sterling is falling against the $, who knows how much we’ll be expected to pay?

Maybe Wenger is watching a striker who is performing in the Copa America, maybe Wenger will make a bid for the AZ Alkmaar guy, Janssen isn’t it?
I really have no idea, being emasculated or whatever Ginge reckons I am, leaves me in no position to judge…. ?

  15. rico says:

Arsenal have reportedly made an offer for Gabriel Barbosa, as known as Gabigol. The Gunners are one of the three clubs to have bid for him recently, according to ESPN Brasil.

  16. obi says:

Here were are talking about how Giroud be missing in action for week, Lukaku be missing in action for months, then gets them in bunches. I watched a lot of football/ sports and when the price tag for some overated players like: Pogba, Higuian, PEA, Lacazette, Stone, Morata, it makes me wonder do scouts watch players like Medel, Vargas, Coq, Arnatovic, Isla, Batstuayi, Aranguiz, C. Sanchez, Benega, Icardi, Snodgrass, Long, etc, etc., actual football players who work and make teams better. Then some fans buy into these soundbites, highlights and utube videos.

  17. Wavy says:

Wasn’t he a pirate Rico? Absconded with the ‘Black Pearl’ captain Jack took two films to retrieve it!
Captain Wenger on the high seas then? Obviously a piece of creative writing!

Good article Kev, although where the players will end up next week, even, is all up for grabs, contracts or no contracts. If a player wants to leave a club he will do unless the club are stupid or the amount of money on offer is derisory then…….think on player!

  18. obi says:

Rico the price tag on Barbosa is 50m, a 19 y.o. OK , AW. I saw me scored one of the most beautiful but yet sublime goal I ever seenand so effortlessly.

  19. Rick says:

    Afternoon Rico and the House
Just watched a special guest doing a tour of the Emirates. He looked good
sitting in front of the no 29 shirt and at ease in Arsens office.
Welcome to Arsenal Granit ( thats what they were calling him)ooking forward to seeing you playing for us.

At the moment they are still working on the pitch and there is no turf laid.

  20. allezkev says:

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is due back by July 10th…

So Rico, it was Mr Adam was it…

Mischievous tinker that he is… ?

  21. Joaquim Moreira says:

    From which team Barbosa play?
AW only but someone at the end of August… if necessary… deepnds of the scores og the three first games

  22. Rick says:

Good Post Kev and I can add to it.
I believe that Jan Toral and Martinez signed 2year extentions befoe they went out on loan last year.
Kamara Plequzuelo and I think Willock have just singed new contracts this month these took place during the Ardy saga.
By the way they are still talking about the U21 and EFL trophy format for next season and I am being told its down to the clubs not th. FA

  23. Malaga gooner says:

    Evening Rico and the house

Everyone is blowing the trumpet about PEP.
I would be more worried about Conte

  24. goonster says:

Conte is a master tactician. God in heaven he just rendered that Spanish midfield useless. Wow loved him as a player loved him more now as a manager. Viva Italia. I love the azzuris. Afternoon good people.

  25. tsgh says:

Goonie- you know Conte took lessons from Lippi, Trapattoni, Carlito, Zoff, Capello but you know its only AW’s summer seminars he values. 😛

  26. goonster says:

Nah mostly lippi ts. I see a bit of marcelo’s pragmatism in him. Still can’t believe he totally neutralize that Spanish midfield in the first half. The Italians are tiring as the game wears on. Man do they miss montolivo and varetti.

  27. goonster says:

Ts I ll be watching a lot of Chelsea this season. I just love that little bastard. I wait to see that too but I doubt if he will.

  28. tsgh says:

He turned to playing 4 at the back when Rudi Garcia,Gervinho, Totti, Pjanic and Strootman were close to winning the title 3 or so years ago…
He tried to play Chelsea with 4 at the back that year in the uCL and lost in the first league but won in the second league…

  29. goonster says:

Well not in the epl ts remember how lvg struggled during his first few games in charge of manure. One ball over the top and the whole game plan ll come unravel. I wait to see him take on pep maureen and klopp. As for wenger…lol lol lol.?????

  30. Obi says:

I have always said Busquests is trash. He has always been an average midfielder that can’t run, pass or tackle – for years he was protected by the geniuses of Xavi and Iniesta; and when are people going to realize that Cesc is done?
Rico @4:33, re Barbosa, they are saying that a couple of years in Brazil it will be like a Neymar situation… he will go for much more crazy money.

  31. Le Coq Monster says:

    Evening all

Win win situation this England game for me !…………it must surely be a win, but lose and I will lmao !……………..England against Iceland is the equivalent of Arsenal against Tesco !…………..the odds must be someting like 1-500,000…..if I could get my house on the market this instant and sell before 8pm, I`d put £500,000 on England just to win a pound !…..easy way of making money !. hahaha
Iceland have got as much chance as the fat spud Adele giving up her Greggs the Bakers season ticket !…………….or Arsene spending £50M on a striker !.

  32. allezkev says:

Thanks for info on contracts Rick…

Italy are looking quite like the team your gonna have to beat to win the Euros…

Their game vs Germany should be very interesting…

  33. Le Coq Monster says:

My son just asked me……………………….”Dad, what would you rather…England win the Euro`s or Iceland win tonight with Alli, Kane, Dier, Rose and Walker all having career leg brake injuries ?”………………………………my son is now bound, gagged and spending the rest of the Euro`s for questioning my Arsenal DNA !………….when the wife comes home, I shall insist on a DNA test !.

  34. Le Coq Monster says:

Sorry !, that should be “spending the rest of the Euros locked in the cellar “…………………….well you try typing whilst manhandling and pushing a 23 year old down the stairs !.

  35. Le Coq Monster says:

My favourite TV show GoT or England game ?………………I`ll let my Boss…..sorry….wife decide !.

  36. Wavy says:

England are doing a really good imitation of the Arsenal. All the ball all the play, precious few chances except a few wild and off target efforts. Dè já view or what?

  37. goonster says:

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha??????????????? football is coming home. Hahahahahahaha

  38. Tsgh says:

    Humilated by part timers…
Still the players will get a bag full of sponsorship stuff plus 2 A330’s to bring them home to stansted…

  39. Wavy says:

You know when the Arsenal told Kane he wasn’t good enough? I know why now! He was truly awful as were Rooney, Alli, Sturridge, Sterling, Hart, Smalling and Cahill, and the rest weren’t far behind them! What a shocker from the most expensively paid group of professionals. They should ALL be removed from the game and taught how to play draughts. I bet they wouldn’t be very good at board games either, except they wouldn’t be expected to move much as was more than evident tonight.

But at least we can welcome Jack home, scared, subdued but safe! Much good may it do him or the rest of the shitehawks!

They are all going to be pilloried, and mŷ how they’ve earned it!

  40. Joaquim Moreira says:

AW, go for Sigurdsson, the central back from Kranosdar quickly. Probably is cheaper and he is perfect for us.
Iceland covered the wings very well and the Totts full backs couldn’t played; England hadn’t in a good physical and mental condition.

  41. allezkev says:

Wavy, why is it, that many of these players are superb every week in the EPL…?
How many of the Iceland players would we want in the Arsenal team, not one imo…
To me it’s between the ears, for some reason our players just can’t handle it, and to me Hodgson has totally failed in England’s last two tournaments…
3 games in Brazil, 4 games in France, 1 win…..!

England aren’t that bad, there’s more to it than that…
But don’t ask me what the answer is..?

  42. andrewh1313 says:

I thought I’ve suffered some shocking games as an Arsenal fan, but that took the biscuit. Hodgson resigned but should have commented on game. At least it spares him press tomorrow as they will soon move on to who’s next. Neville 10-1, book. Southgate book, Wenger 28-1?

  43. Le Coq Monster says:

Glad my wife convinced me to watch GoT…………it was brilliant !

I see Spudland lost !………………very hard for me to get upset with an England team half full of Spuds, better to laugh at them !……………….I`m with Goonie ! hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

  44. Lee says:

Brudder a very Arsenal performance last night….. let’s just hope that defeat doesn’t kill the feel good factor in the country at the moment!

  45. Adam says:

Morning Rico. Just having a coffee at Waterloo thinking how great all those marvellous Spurs players were last night, especially ‘Arry Kane. 😉

  46. Le Coq Monster says:

    Morning all.

Spudland has failed !…………….having 5 spuds that choked in a 2 horse race would have sent trembles through the footsie100 index let alone English supporters !………..time to get 3 West Ham players in the England team if we are to win anything !.

  47. Le Coq Monster says:

That sounds bad Lee, but when you get even deeper into the stats like I should imagine half them 330,000 are woman !…………X amount are pensioners !……X amount are under the age of sexual consent !………………X amount are in prison !…………………X amount are disabled !………………X amount are in a mental institution !………………..X amount couldn`t get the time off from working in Iceland………………X amount……………..basically leaves about 20 odd fit men players to choose from !.

  48. Le Coq Monster says:

I like the stat that there`s 3 snowwomen to every one male !………………two`s company……freezer crowd !.
