Lucas Torreira – sell or keep? Arsenal chasing French defender?

Morning all.

We didn’t get the much predicted storms in West Berkshire, or if we did, I slept right through them. Plenty of rain though, which I hope disappears a lot quicker than it arrived yesterday after black thundery clouds filled the skies from mid afternoon onwards.

There’s little transfer news on the Arsenal front. The Kieran Tierney rumours appear to have some substance to them but even so, Sky Sports and other media outlets suggest Celtic and Arsenal are a few pounds away from reaching a deal. Around £10 million I read.

Newsnow is awash with headlines about an Arsenal midfield flop moving onto another club when in fact the player in question is Denis Suarez who in reality has never been an ‘Arsenal player.’ Yes, he joined the club on loan but if or when he moves to a different club, he’ll do so as a Barcelona player. Still, as long as that headline gets a click eh?

Lucas Torreira is another midfielder hitting the headlines. He’s linked with a move away this summer with Milan desperate to sign him. There’s been so many headlines on NN relating to this story, I’ve no idea who the original source was. Sorry. TransferMarket have our midfield man valued at €55 million which roughly exchanges to £50 million.

The Metro, don’t laugh, write – ‘According to Sportitalia, Torreira has told Arsenal’s hierarchy that he is unhappy in England and wants to return to Serie A with AC Milan.’

I bet our little Uruguayan wished he’d never mentioned preferring life in Italy when he spoke to the Arsenal Player. Although to his credit, he did say he expected to get used to life in London and enjoy it just as much. Or something like that anyway.

If, and it’s a big If in my opinion, there’s some truth to this rumour and Milan really are trying to sign Torreira, what in your opinion should the club do? Cash in but demand a lot more than he’s reportedly valued at, especially as he’s under contract, young and very very good, or politely tell Milan to take a long walk off of a short pier?

Answers on a postcard please, after all, it’s it summer….

Other transfer rumours.

Dan-Axel Zagadou, a 20 year old. 6’ 5” French Centre-Back currently playing for Dortmund could be heading our way. – The Mirror.

Arsenal target Dominik Szoboszlai, 18, is keen for a move away from Red Bull Salzburg, with Barcelona and Borussia Dortmundalso interested in the Hungary midfielder. – Football London.

Arsenal are still hoping to snap up the signing of Yannick Carrasco too but  are yet to make a formal offer. – Football London

See you in the comments guys..

    Morning all.
    Adam, I can’t contain myself.
All of these rumours of signings and I have the utmost belief that we will sign at least one of them 🙂

  2. rico says:

    Morning Adam, Scott and all.

Kev is probably right though with what he said earlier. 1st July and the transfer window will start moving.

  3. sohara says:

Sorry if this is off topic, but what do you guys think of Arteta and Viera both being in the list of replacements for Rafa at Newcastle ?

    Morning Gooners
Morning Rico, ‘Agadoo’ is one of my all time favourite songs, whenever I pop in to visit Adam he does a wicked rendition on his banjo and we all sing-along, great fun had by all…

No doubt News Now, as we blog, is disciplining those sites that have deliberately misinformed their patrons, it is the responsible thing to do after all….

It’s been suggested that Arsenal will need to spend half of their transfer kitty to get Tierney, that’s a lie News Now, the fee is spread over the length of his contract, so a 5 year contract means a down payment of £5m and £5m a year for the following 4 years. The payment to his agent is also spread over the length of his deal.

So if we get Tierney, that’ll leave about £35m for any other deals we have in the pipeline
, everybody knows this now but the Press on line (Telegraph in this case) still spread lies, are you watching News Now?

  5. rico says:

    😂 Adam.

Morning Kev, I hope so too. However…

I don’t believe all this transfer budget stuff. The wages seem more of a problem imo but this current regime are unlikely to dish out silly contracts. Or that’s how it seems to me.

  6. potter says:

The Los Angeles Rams, the NFL franchise run by Arsenal owner Stan Kroenke, have been ordered to pay up to £18.8million ($24m) to supporters in St. Louis, the former home of the team..

Just another bill to come from his back pocket.

  7. Le Coq Monster says:

Rico !………. is it possible to have Transfer Window Licking chart on the side somewhere ?………….1-10 On The Transfer Window Licking Scale.
Each rumour would be rated with 10 being the most silly rumour that the person who rumours it possibly has a Windolene intravenous drip attached to their tongue or Barry Scott spraying Cillit Bang up their Arse !

Or alternatively I just put one to ten tongues on any rumour comment !…….for example…….Kroenke is going to inject £500m to finance the purchase of Messi, gets ………..

  8. ScottfromOz says:

LC, one year, we should actually keeps tabs of how many players the media link us to.
It’d be an interesting excercise, I reckon.

  9. Le Coq Monster says:

Scott. Some sites do list them all, but I cant remember who they are., next time it appears on newsnow I will copy it !………and no doubt become an anorak ! 😆

  10. VCC says:

As we are talking about rumoured transfers. If its true, WHY would we be going in for Zaha? That would blow all and plus a bit of our reported budget on one player. A player we hardly need.

Can someone find out where UE lives and send him a letter stating ” We need defenders” old chum, for flip sake.

And one defender we could get relatively cheaply, if we move quick enough is, Jonathan Teh. Go get him Unai.

I so wished UE read this blog. He should, as its the best one out there.

Hello Rico and all. Still read but had two major operations this year.

Gazidis has offered beteen £5 and £8 million for a two year loan on Torreira and then an option for Milan to buy him. What a snake is that Gazidis.
Torreira wants to leave not because of the weather but because he doesn’t see eye to eye with the coach.

We officially offered £15 million for the Celtic lad which was rejected,We have increased the offer to £18.00 but would rather part exchange jenkinson as part or all of the deal.Still not accepted.
We can’t negotiate when we sell or when we try and buy.,
The club is in a huge mess from top to bottom with no forward planning, letting contracts run down, buying many very average players at an inflated price and overpaying many who are still there.

God knows what will happen but i believe Emery didn’t know the full extent of the job and will either leave or resign sooner than many think.
One of the richest clubs in the world has lost it’s respect to all other clubs.

We have sold our identity and heritage to a man who could ruin us.That’s the reality.Sorry but that’s a fact.

  12. Adam says:

Hi Kelsey. I am very sorry to hear of your health problems but hope that things are much better now.
As for Arsenal. Nothing you say surprises me really. It’s depressing but perhaps the fans who go to the games might eventually decide that enough is enough and not bother until something changes. The whole situation seems caught in some awful downward spiral and perhaps, in that fact, lies some sort of hope for the future. Who knows?

  13. rico says:

    Evening Kelsey, all.

Sorry to hear about your ops Kelsey, hope you’re recovering well.

Are we definitely looking to sign Zaha? Can’t see it myself, just like the budget, made up imo.

Lc, you’re kidding, I’ll be on here from dawn to dusk.. 😆

    Thanks re HH Vcc…

  14. allezkev says:

I trust that both operations were a success Kelsey, not that Baku would have given you much of a boost, fingers crossed that you’re fighting fit now…

  15. kelsey says:

Old age lads and Rico, but thank you ,.It’s been a difficult few months,

Rico i haven’t got a clue about Zaha but though we don’t announce our budget i wager it’s small and we might have to sell any of our players including the few good ones before we buy

I like you have seen ups and downs over the decades but these past few seasons are unprecedented and eveyone from Gazidis down has been responsible.

If you were a player in demand would you chose Arsenal if there were other options ?

  16. ScottfromOz says:

    Morning all.
    I won’t mention the cricket 🙂
Adam, you’re probably right on the list of players we are NOT linked to lol
People do get sucked in by the rumours and I guess most of us have at some stage.
Maybe it’s that little sniff of hope we are finally going to splash the cash and get in what we need, but reality kicks in and we just keep moving sideways, or worse.

  17. rico says:

Kelsey, can’t have been easy but I hope you’re over the worst.

I too think we need to sell players and quite frankly I don’t care who gets sold really as long as the money is reinvested and we sign players who want to be at the club for the club and not just for the money. Just why I’d rather watch the younger players as although they might make mistakes as they learn, at least they’re likely to do so whilst trying. We’ve got far too many who like to turn it on when they feel like it rather than every time they wear the kit.

  18. allezkev says:

Same here Ned, I also won’t mention the cricket, so quickly moving on….

Regarding your post Rico, I like Torrieira and despite my reservations about his stature and how that could affect his ability to be as influential as we’d all hope in the future, I want him to stay.

But, as you and I have often mentioned recently, everybody has their price and I’m not attached to the majority of our squad, so if Milan come in with a serious bid of say £60/£70m then we couldn’t really refuse. The suggested two year loan with an option to buy, that’s correct, an option not an obligation, is too ridiculous to even consider for a second, in fact it’s so ridiculous it’s almost humorous, not that I’m laughing.

    Gazides really is a tosser…

  19. ScottfromOz says:

    Hiya Kev,
I’d hate to see Torreira leave.
His positional play is fantastic and that’s what makes him effective, so I’d love to see him alongside a big, aggressive guy.
Gazidis can f**k right off as far as i am concerned!!!!

  20. rico says:

I like him too Kev, he’s a great little player and yes, I think along the same lines as you. Everyone has their price.

Yep, Gazidis really is a tosser. He and his big promises had me fooled. I’m so glad the old lot are gone. What Raul brings to the club only time will tell but if he practices what he preaches about contracts etc, then he’s got to be an improvement surely?

  21. Cicero says:

Good morning all from a warm and sunny Otjiwarongo. Heading for Windhoek and a twelve hour flight to Amsterdam and then on to Heathrow and thence home this morning.

Nothing happening on the transfer front, either in or out. Very boring. Not you post though Rico.

Glad to hear that you’re still around Kelsey, good luck mate.

  22. Sohara says:

Hi Kelsey, glad you are feeling a bit better now. I was very concerned about your comments that Torreira did not get on with Emery, is this something that you think? or have you actually heard something more tangible about that? and is it your opinion that Emery is a popular coach among the players? Thanks

  23. ScottfromOz says:

    Morning all,
    Hi Sheila,
Özil doesn’t get along with Emery, Torreira allegedly doesn’t, maybe Ramsey didn’t and we know Emery had clashed with the big guns at PSG.
There’s a common thread, no question.
Rico, give us a beast of a midfielder and the little guy would kill it.
Apart from Diaby, and we know what happened there, it’s been Vieira since we had one.
    Crazy stuff 🙂

  24. Sohara says:

That’s the worry that I have begun to have about Emery, that He didn’t get on well with some players especially with the ‘Big’ Players , which to me is really bad news. I know that is the reason he was sacked at PSG ..Oh dear …Let us hope that Freddie can help in this respect. Thanks for the reply

  25. ScottfromOz says:

Some managers are much more effective at smaller clubs, some thrive at the big ones.
We know Emery can manage, but so far, his best results have been at the lesser lights.
Let’s hope he proves that theory incorrect because we need the “right” manager ASAP.

  26. VCC says:

    Morning Kelsey and all.
Hope your on the mend Kelsey. Blogging isn’t the same without your knowledge and in sight all
    Things Arsenal.
    Keep smiling buddy.

  27. rico says:

Scott, I don’t believe any of the stuff about Torreira not getting along with Emery but I can imagine Ozil sulking if he was told to work harder.

Wasn’t it Raul who pulled the plug on Ramsey? I’m sure he said it was about wages and the club wouldn’t stretch to what he, his agent were asking.

  28. rico says:

Are we a big club though Scott? In name, history, location and in many other ways I’d say yes but the way we’ve acted for the last 5-10 years, I’d say we’re not.

    New post up now

  29. kelsey says:

Sheila, I don’t make up things not that you implied that,Rico has known me for abour 14 years. my daughter is a language tutor and is contracted to teach Spanish and french speaking players English in the PL.. One is Torreira who she has coached weekly for over 9 months and he and two other players detest Emery(not Ozil) who appears to have favourites like AW. The weather issue is a red herring. I don’t think Emery knew how big the task was when he joined and winning The Europa Cup is not the same as challenging for the PL Title.
AW,Gazidis and Lawsdid more damage to the club than many think.
Gazidis now wants to rape us by paying 5 million to 8 million for a two year loan to Milan then decide if he wants to buy the player. (can’t mention the name for now)
In his wisdom Kroenke is reducing the budget though th exact figure isn’t know and why would any club tell the world their budget. He has never personally invested in any franchise and that worries me a lot as I only see a downward spiral,
maybe will resign but i doubt he would get scked at least not for the upcoming season.
We can’t afford a big name manager as he would demand a salary like AW and the first question he would ask would bee “what funds are available”
I would go for youth and PL experience in Eddie Howe whi is currently the longest seving manager in the PL.
All good teams are built on a solid defence first and foremost and ours is a disaster.

  30. kelsey says:

i love my club as much as anyone and it’s been part of my family from day one but how can anyone be pleased in the way we are conducting ourselves in every aspect to do with Arsenal. Forget the fans moaning, look how other clubs are treating us if we are trying to buy or sell. I don’t call that negativity it’s a fact.If those who feel things will right themselves I suggest you go the magic circle and wave a wand 😉

  31. kelsey says:

re my 9.54:Gazidis now wants to rape us by paying 5 million to 8 million for a two year loan to Milan then decide if he wants to buy the player. (can’t mention the name for now) Ok it’s Torreira,

  32. VCC says:

Thanks Kelsey for the updates of what is happening within the walls of the Emirates.
I know you are well connected and only enlighten us to help keep our feet well grounded.
It beggars belief how Spurs can offer £65mil for one player whilst having just moved into their new wonderful stadium and we have been fed scraps from our board whilst pleading poverty because of our move.
Unfortunately I have aired my view as to what to do with Mr Kronke. The only thing he is concerned about is money. And how much he can wrangle out of our club. That’s where the unfortunate thing comes in. Supporters have to make a stand if they wish our club to remain in the top six , let alone the top division. We must boycott games that’s the only language Kronke understands. I’ve stopped attending and stopped buying any merchandise for a few years now. It hurts like hell but when a dictator and greedy selfish guy such as Kronke is concerned you have to make a stand or just plod along accepting what scraps he allows us to have.

  33. kelsey says:

Vcc with regards to Spurs before a brick was layed Joe lewis (Enic) who is now in his eighties, started arranging a deal to sell the club to an american syndicate with the proviso Daniel Levy stays. if and when that happens the debt on the stadium will be greatly reduced.

With this kid at celtic we have had two low bids rejected yet we are offering him to treble his wages to 75K a week before a deal is done.
Every deal we ae supposedly linked with we penny pinch over a few million and I honestly believe that Arsenal as club stepped in history isn’t the draw to good player as it was once. That is very sad,

  34. Sohara says:

Oh Kelsey, I’m so sorry if you thought I doubted your post. I am a very new member of this forum and as such don’t know the posters on here. You do get some ITK people on twitter etc and your news was a little upsetting to me , that Torriera didn’t get on with Emery, and it still is to be honest, from a few ‘gossipy’ things I had read before about how some players were unhappy with him and now you say the same but from a good source.

I wonder if Spurs do get bought by a USA outfit if they will have an owner like Kronke ? There are so many clubs at the moment protesting about their owners. Man U…Newcastle , US….Football as we knew it years ago is certainly changing

  35. rico says:

Shelia, HH doesn’t really get itk’s. There are members who have connections to the club but they don’t spill on here in fear of breaching confidence. I’m like you though, I keep on checking NN for the latest garbage. Lol

Welcome to HH by the way.
