Lille man the mystery man?

Morning all.

Arsenal are in Germany. The players who’ve returned from their summer break are busy preparing for our second fixture of pre-season. Gabriel Jesus, Matt Turner and Marquinhos were in action were a number of players who could yet see their Arsenal careers come to an end this summer. Bernd Leno is widely reported to be on his way to Fulham which would be an odd move in my opinion. No disrespect to Fulham but it’s a bit of a step down for our German keeper but then another keeper of ours did the same not so long ago because all he wanted to do was be first choice. Perhaps that’s all what matters to Leno at this stage of his career because sitting on the bench isn’t going to help him as far as his international career goes.

Strange things going on with Hector Bellerin I think. Captain against Ipswich and now he’s the player face on the official website as the squad visited the adidas’ HQ in Herzogenaurach, Germany. Yet if we’re to believe what’s written on NN etc, he’s desperate to depart. Might there be a chance he stays I wonder? Brooke Norton-Cuffy is tipped to be our future right-back but what about the here and now, is Bellerin a better option than Cedric as back up for Takehiro Tomiyasu, or is better to forget them both and go with 18 year old Norton-Cuffy?

Our left-back situation is yet to be resolved too which is probably why we’re linked to Alex Grimaldo. £6 million is cheap as chips for a 26 year old experienced player but then he is going into his final year of contract. If we’re to believe The Metro,, Arsenal have made a €7m bid for Lille winger Edon Zhegrova.  They go on to write that “the 23-year-old, who joined Lille from Basel in January, has ‘impressed’ Arsenal scouts in his six months in northern France, according to football commentator Arlind Saliku. Saluku insist that the Gunners have already made an opening bid for his compatriot.”

I’ve no idea what’s true or not these days but most is probably untrue but the usually reliable Fabrizio Romano has suggested we’re chasing a winger. This story is all over NewsNow as well as social media. This is what Romano is supposed to have said:

A winger, they wanted Raphinha, but now that is not the case as we mentioned, it’s Chelsea and Barcelona. So, for Arsenal we will see if they go for another winger. We had rumours about Gnabry, but I’m told he’s not on Arsenal’s list. I will try to let you know who the player is. I have an indication but I can’t speak yet because I have to check and make sure it’s the right name. I am working on it, they’re very good at keeping it quiet this summer.

Actually, they’re not, not really because barring Fabio Vieira, the entire world know we were trying to sign Marquinhos and Gabriel Jesus, and Matt Turner was only about dotting the t’s and crossing the i’s. Plus, if Youri Tielemans becomes an Arsenal player, our interest in him has hardly been kept quiet. Football transfers being kept quiet is a thing of the past I think. The days of a ‘Sol Campbell’ unveiling, a deal which probably shocked football, are no more. Premier League clubs are actually selling players to their rivals these days, not that I anticipate Arsenal and Totts would ever exchange money for a player any day soon. Lol

See you in the comments.

It could be a good move for Leno, he will not have to move the family and with Less pressure and more game time he could be find his way with a top club next season

Sorry, Rico, I cannot add anything intelligent to the Edon Zhegrova discussion.

But assuming that there is a new post in the queue on the recent Lucas Paquetá rumor (unless you devote the next one to Jack Wilshire), I might be able to chip in…
My mate and I were discussing Arsenal’s transfer window performance so far and came to a conclusion, that the squad is becoming better and better, all we need now is an attacking midfielder. 🙂

    0-2 down

    1-2 Jesus

    2-2 Mohammed

    You cannot make that up.

3-2 up with an own goal.

Jesus and Mohammed off the mark
