Leno setback. Gabriel rumours hot up.

Morning all.

Still no real transfer news, but plenty of speculation. There always is this time of the year. The only difference is that this weekend would ordinarily be the beginning of a new Premier League season and the transfer window would now be shut. It’s not. Football is still being played though, not for Chelsea now, not after their thumping in Germany. I was desperate for Bayern to score a few more goals, just so Arsenal weren’t the only club to get battered by the German club 10-2 on aggregate in the Champions League. Wolves, Man Utd and Man City still have European fixtures to play.

Another team participating in the bigger of the two European competitions last night was Lille. Gabriel Magalhaes Was left out of the French side with his usual number 4 shirt already handed to someone else. He’s heading to Arsenal. Of course he is. That might very well be true, but it might also be the case of the only thing connecting the player to Arsenal is Edu. They’re both Brazilian.

Thanks to our new scouting system, here’s everything you need to know about Gabriel.

The Sun, don’t you just them, are again linking AMN to the Toots. Can you imagine that? I really don’t want to so if he’s going, please let it be to any club other than that lot.

If true, Bernd Leno’s Injury is repairing well, or quick enough for him to be fit for the season. Great for Emi Martinez of course as he’ll be afforded more time to prove his end of season heroics weren’t a fluke and he deserves to be our number one keeper but if as The Mail and other newspapers suggest, the club are looking to bring in another keeper as cover, it’s bad news for Matt Macey. All 6’ 7” of him.

Interestingly, Matt Macey was all set for a free move away from the club this summer but back in June, the club extended his deal by another season. He’s still only 25 years old. Emi Martinez had to bide his time, perhaps this will be Macey’s time. The Europa Cup fixtures will come early, if they’re earlier than Leno’s return to full fitness, Macey will probably be called upon. I just hope he’s improved a lot since his loan at Plymouth Argyle which was a bit of a disaster according to the Daily Cannon at the end of the 2018/19 season. He didn’t have a good start to his Arsenal debut either when we face Norwich City in the League Cup. How can a 6’ 7” keeper be chipped? He was but in the end it didn’t matter because we had a super sub that night who came off the bench late in the game to score two goals.

Without cheating, who was that super sub?

Finally, I love this. Arsenal at its best in my opinion. Martin Keown, Charlie George, Ray Parlour and Lee Dixon out and about with the FA Cup and a few lucky fans. The link HERE is from the official Arsenal website.

Have a good Sunday guys, see you in the comments.

Nice one, Rico! Won’t be long and we’ll have the Brazilian national team playing for us!!

    Eddie?! 😄

Well, they didn’t make it to our neck of the woods with the cup, Rico…. maybe next year 😉

I was there that night the crowd were going wild Singing Eddie Eddie Eddie, we all though we had unearthed a superstar, has not happen YET !! but still might, but I am not sure

I hope we can get Emil to sign a long deal, I actually prefer him to Leno which is harsh as Leno got injured & we were raving about him before his injury. But Emi to me is a better keeper, he catches the ball more Leno punches it out a lot. He plays out from the back better ( I used to sit with my heart in my mouth when Leno was doing it ) his distribution is a bit better than Leno’s They are both good shot stoppers but Emi has the advantage of height ( a BIG advantage in a GK) I am glad he is getting longer to prove himself. Also I just LOVE that photo of Emi just hugging the cup He really LOVES Arsenal , whereas I have always felt that if Bayern or a German club called Leno might go

Sohara, if Bayern come calling for Martinez, he might be tempted to go too.

I’m hoping Eddie pushes on this coming season. He’s a good poacher striker imo who like Lacazette, needs more clear cut chances to come his way.

Morning Ladies, I think part of our problem has been the quality of the coaching our goalkeepers have got up till recently, the guy they’ve got now seems to have ironed out a few of Emi’s wrinkles.

  5. allezkev says:

Didn’t we have Gerry Peyton for a long time coaching our goalkeepers?

I’m sure that there was an interview out there, done for Polish TV I think, in which Sczchesny and Fabianski basically took the piss out of Peyton’s coaching, but Wenger liked him and nothing ever changed under Wenger, well except Arsenal’s ability to compete.

Emery brought his own goalkeeping coach and didn’t Arsenal recruit a new guy after Emery left?

    Afternoon Rico and All
    Hi Ken..Brady
Still got the letter he sent me he
politely told me I was not wellcome.
In them days my contact was Sean
o.Conner who was on the ball when
it come to youngsters,I was in the know
at the time with the academy level of
player,I also had mates at chelsea, charlton
    west ham,southend and spurs,so would
take good quality teams to the training
grounds and play them.I’m what you would
call very loud as I coached from the line.
Another coaching and play area was under
the clockend,we used to take squads of lads
before games and Ray Lee would train/coach
    the lads.
I think Brady got the hump because I wanted to
know how the boys that came through me were
doing,he also refused to play my teams, yet Sean
    did want to.
Or was I to loud for him..Still love him anyway.

Ok Fred, I think you’ve told me something along those lines before, thanks again.

Arsenal used to be top dog in London from an academy perspective, but when we allowed Chelsea to poach Dermot Drummy I think the pendulum swung away from us and to them.
I think they’ve stolen a few more of our academy staff since Drummy, God bless him…

I can’t ever remember Arsenal taking on Chelsea youth cast offs in the past as we already had the best available and the majority of the best kids wanted Arsenal anyway.
Aston Villa were the top academy in the midlands and Man Utd were the best up north.

So taking players like Nketiah, Medley and Sraha would never have happened back then, now it’s as if we take any crumbs from the Chelsea table, Cech, Luiz, Willian, Demba Ba almost, all under the watch of KSE.

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

Imagine if Magic Mikel lost the FA Cup final and a week later gets thumped by Bayern and knocked out of the champions league and then we lose one of our best players to a local rival. But because its Arsenal the media would go into meltdown yet nothing gets said about LampLard. Its so corrupt!

  9. frednerk says:
