Kroenke and Wenger fallout good news?

Morning all.

The Mirror are running a story this morning which suggests Josh Kroenke wants Thierry Henry at the club as he believes the Frenchman would lift the players, no doubt in hope to gain a top four spot. However, Arsene Wenger has put his foot down and said no, he doesn’t want him sticking his nose in. True? Who knows, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised. Henry is a big character, a player our boys would look up to for all he’s done in football and if he stepped in, Wenger wouldn’t like the attention his old striker would get.

Could you imagine it. Henry arrives, we start winning again and somehow scrape into a Champions League spot before the season ends. The media would have a field day wouldn’t they and Wenger would hate that. Similar happened back in 2006 when Martin Keown worked with the defence. We reached the Champions League Final with Flamini at left-back but instead of keeping Keown on the coaching staff, off he went. If my memory serves me right, Steve Bould earned a bit of praise a while ago when our defensive unit looked like it was organised but that little story soon had cold water poured all over it by Wenger.

If this little story about Kroenke jnr and Wenger is true, it could be good news really. Josh will have seen first hand how stubborn the Frenchman is, he’ll know that any changes Ivan Gazidis plans to introduce won’t be well received by the Frenchman and perhaps he’ll persuade his old man that Wenger isn’t the right man to take us forward after all. If there really is no decision made between the board and Wenger yet, then there’s still time for that contract (if there is one) to be ripped up. I can’t believe Stan Kroenke will have a smile on his face when he sees ‘his club’ are stuck in 7th place in the league.

But of course, that could all change after tomorrow night if we beat Boro by two clear goals and Utd lose to Chelsea later this afternoon which I pray they do with Totts just four points behind the league leaders after beating Bournemouth 4-0 yesterday. Talking of which, just how bad did Jack Wilshere play? And how embarrassing was it to hear the fans at WHL taking the mickey out of our club? That’s what Arsene Wenger has done for us! That’s how low things have got! From being a club which would always beat our most bitter of rivals, we now face a trip to WHL in the league with fear and unless Chelsea beat them in the FA Cup semi-final, I really don’t want us to beat Man City in ours. In the days of Adams, Keown, Vieira, Henry and co, I’d have loved to see us play the Totts at Wembley in a cup final, because like most Arsenal fans, back then I believed we would win.

These days though, instead of having a team full of leaders and winners, we have a squad full of players who have had their footballing brains sucked out of them, their aggression tamed and their passion, gone.

When a Chilean international who never gives up looks lost, we all know what a mess this club is in under Arsene Wenger.

Any massive decision, like that over Wenger’s tenure, would certainly need to be analysed by the board. On one side the plus points, all of which seem to be predicated on Arsene being able to reinvent himself. This I would think is highly unlikely as his recent press conferences suggest to me that he has put the barriers up to change and is now trading squarely on what he did over a decade ago. The negative points have been amply demonstrated recently and only a fool would believe that we aren’t on the slippery slope downwards and accelerating fast.
I imagine that Ivan and Chips can see exactly what is happening and Wenger’s insistence that the ‘catalyst for change’ is a mere blip has been somewhat exacerbated by his startling confession that he has no idea why the team is playing so badly.
Obviously, whichever position holds sway depends to some degree on good fortune too as nothing in football is guaranteed. Except for one thing perhaps and that is that Wenger is not going to change which means more of the same I suppose. Factor in the groundswell of virulent criticism that will certainly follow should he sign a new contract and get bad results and the board will be looking at both a hefty payout to remove him and trying to find a new manager in the middle of the season which, to me, suggests that next season could be thrown away if they don’t make the right call.

    Good comment Adam.

It beggars belief that anyone at the club expects Wenger to either change, or get us back into the top 4 if that’s the clubs aim. With so many other clubs on the rise now they have more financial power, we are as you say, just on a rapid decline. Who’d have ever thought we’d be just one place above West Brom…

Good point about the money the club would have to stump up to remove him in the middle of a season.

Now is the time for the board to be strong…

wenger and bould have no solution as to how to play against the likes of Bayern Munich and other teams who play on arsenal’s defensive weaknesses of the full backs playing so far forward-Chelsea management team soon makes changes in similar circumstances-it is not the fault of our players who are only playing as they are told to do-let mertasacker organise the defence

    Go Joshie boy….

  9. dublingunner says:

    Afternoon, Happy Easter,
You would have to say arsenal’s top brass must be acutely aware of the fan unrest, it,s hard to imagine Wenger carrying on in such difficult circumstances for another two years, Kroenke would be a fool to let this situation go on, at boardroom level there is certainly the fear of the unknown, bringing in an Henry, Viera etc type player would be a hugely popular move, someone to give him fresh perspective, challenge his ideas, but we all know with Wenger it,s his or way or the highway and of course there lies the problem.
Unfortunately it seems, wenger will continue to rule with an iron fist, Kroenke will continue to be invisible and Gazidis will soon get tired of banging his head against a wall and possibly walk away.
As you were it seems, come August, whilst we stand still, our competitors strengthen around us, heaven help us

N’Golo Kante wanted to join Arsenal – Robbie Fowler delivers explosive transfer revelation

Kante was hot property after playing a massive role in unfancied Leicester’s Premier League title win.

Chelsea secured the France international’s services for £32m and handed him a £110,000-a-week deal.

Arsene Wenger has admitted he attempted to sign Kante but hinted that he only joined Chelsea for the cash.

But Liverpool legend Fowler claims Arsenal are to blame for not landing their man.

Fowler told the Mirror: “I know for a fact that N’Golo Kante wanted to go to Arsenal, Wenger wanted him, but the deal didn’t get done.”

“I’m not saying it fell through because of his wages. But it fell through because of his wages.

“That looks a bit dumb now, doesn’t it?”

  11. rico says:

I agree Dublin. As Adam said earlier, just think how much the club will have to fork out if it all goes tits up next season and they need to sack him….

    Afternoon Bt. That’s odd…

  12. dublingunner says:

    Hi, Rico, thats true..
That AW can veto any decision at the club if he doesn’t agree with it. Shows the power he has at the club, its just sickening, he,s been allowed to get away with this for too long now.

Think I read L,C that Kante was up for the move to arsenal, but in his own words, said Chelsea wanted me more. This manager just doesn,t show enough enthusiam and hesitates, therefore a lot of our Targets go elsewhere, Shameful really, i,m sick of it.

  13. iwasthere says:

The rapid demise and failure to qualify for Champions League next season – even Europa League is potentially at risk as well – means that the board and Kroenke no longer need to fear the “Ferguson” affect in changing the manager. – Wenger has already delivered what most concerned them post-Wenger season – you’ve got hand to him, the man is a bit of a genius.:-(

  14. Le Coq Monster says:

I`d love to know whether the Chav fans are going to create a ………Conte Out petition !…………..he`s turning into Wenger !……. a few weeks ago they had a ten point cushion !…………….actually, fcuk the Chavs, we need to start a Conte Out petition because if the Chavs fcuk it up and the worst nightmare happens with The Spuds as Champs then we cant blame Wenger !……………………come to think of it, the worst nightmare scenario would for the Spuds to win the double by beating us in the Final !……………makes Freddie Kruger, Dracula, Frankensteins monster, The Mummy etc` seem like girl scout cookie sellers !………………………..fcukkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

  15. BT62 Gooner says:

Just watched the goals in the Future Cup game between Arsenal v Bayern. Appears we like to prepare our youngsters for the first team early….4-1 Bayern and some familiar defending.

  16. BT62 Gooner says:

    What’s change Rico?
The father of our first (supposed) summer signing, says nothing has been signed and that Milan have the advantage..

  17. John says:

Its the board thats the problem not Wenger
Ive been going to Arsenal since around 74
The fans off today have been spoiled with the quality off teams wenger has produced

You should all stop moaning You are hoping Kronke does something about Henry you are probably the same ones that wants kroenke out

Bring the Russian in lets him give the moneg he has offered in the past

  18. dublingunner says:

The rot is systemic throughout the club from the top to the manager, they can all be equally blamed, but it,s AW who buys, picks, organises and plays them, I don,t think I,ve seen squads or performances in recent times that make me feel spoilt, the resources and fanbase is there to make us a top top team, but as Henry said himself and I agree, we are no longer a top team. As for Usmanov, unfortunately I don,t think theres any chance soon that he,ll be let invest in the squad, although to read he,s recent odd comments I.m.o, that Wenger should be allowed to pick his own successor, I now wonder about Usmanov too…

  19. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Morning to you all,

    No St Totteringhams Day!

But how would everyone feel if it were The Arsenal that officially ended Spurs title hopes @ WHL?

Not enough silver lining on a season for you all? What about ended Spurs title hopes @ WHL & beat them in the FA Cup as well?

  20. dublingunner says:

It would certainly bring some sort of solace and enjoyment to what has become a so far forgettable season of annual mediocrity, when it most counts we,ve continued to be let down, I would truly fear for us in those games G,G, especially with moral in the team and the fanbase at an all time low, and the added build up of the delayed fixtures, our season has been bad enough, without the threat of an added humiliation off an F.A. cup final defeat to Spurs, Although I,m sure City and Chelsea will have something to say about it.

  21. Tony says:

How has it come to this? A once great club reduced to a complete laughing stock. The answer lies with Kroenke’s total infatuation with A W. I doubt that any manager in the history of the modern game has enjoyed the sort of untrammelled power that Wenger does at the Emirates. And beneath the urbane, sophisticated, multilingual exterior that still seduces elements of the national media, lies an insecure ageing and incredibly selfish man who hasn’t had an original idea in over a decade and is much more concerned about how he’s going to spend his managerial dotage than the future of Arsenal FC.
He has been lucky in recent seasons where upheaval at the other top clubs has meant we have been able to sneak a top four finish, sometimes by the skin of our teeth. But the luck’s run out. The other top six teams now have world class, ambitious, dynamic coaches who make A W look like the dinosaur that he’s become. And worst of all the Spuds are flying and look as if they have more than an outside chance of not only winning the league but possibly the double.
So how is the omnishambles at the Emirates going to be resolved. Not by Kroenke or the Board and certainly not by Arsene Wenger. Unfortunately, the fans are going to have to make the atmosphere so toxic that his position becomes untenable.
An undignified way for a once great manager to go but he’s brought it on himself.

  22. rico says:

Welcome Tony. Can’t disagree with any of that..

Especially your last sentence, AW has indeed brought all of this upon himself, through his stubbornness and unwillingness to change…

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

    Morning all.
Dont know whether anyone has looked at it this way before, but to gauge how bad we have become you only have to look at our so called rivals !……………..apart from the scum bag spuds, all of them have been on the decline compared to their best teams !………………..Manshafter Std are no where near their treble winning team or the ones which won countless titles……………..Mansour City for all their wealth have not (inc` this season) won the title for two seasons !…………………Liverpool are not as good as their team which almost won the title but for Gerrards mishap !………………….Chavs although in the driving seat for the title are no where as good as the Mourinho teams of past ( one which had a record haul of points which bettered the invincibles ) !…………………only the spuds are better than they`ve ever been !………………………so if we cant produce when the playing field isn`t as good individually as it was, what does that tell you about us ?
