Kieran Gibbs robbed of award, well wasn't he? (Poll)

Morning all,

Another day of nothing much in the world of football, let alone our fine club.

The new ‘all signing and dancing’ website is releasing as much news as they possibly can, thankfully, they seem to have finally stopped praising our new signing Monreal!

One thing they seem to have expanded on is the goal of the month competition. It’s all flash, shows all the results from the fan vote and even shows the video replay of the top two goals.

Stunning eh!!

Yes of course I am being ironic, it’s Friday and our boys are back playing tomorrow.

Back to the goal of the month for January, which has been awarded to Lukas Podolski for his equaliser against West Ham. A match we went onto win 5-1.

Ok, it’s was good,  but was it really better than the one Kieran Gibbs scored against Swansea? Or the one Wilshere scored against the same side in the FA Cup replay, or even Walcott’s against Chelsea, that was pretty good wasn’t it?

No is my answer, what’s yours?

Sticking with the website, Thomas Vermaelen has been talking about Saturdays fixture against Newcastle:

Sunderland away is always a tough game, I think we did well in the first game of the season at home against Sunderland. We couldn’t score but we were the better team and had the better chances.

I think Sunderland has a little bit more technical quality than Stoke. Stoke was always a difficult game.

We were the better side all over the game (last weekend). We had a few chances in the first half, but it’s difficult against them. They defend well and they’re strong. In the end I’m happy we could get the goal.

Weren’t we all glad we go the important goal?

Sunderland won’t be anything like what we endured last weekend. Martin O’Neil is a football man, not a man who employs bully boy tactics. Yes, they will be strong and they will defend well, we saw that on the opening day of the season but since then, we have improved our attacking game no-end.

Add that to the resolute way we defended at home against them and we could see us come home with all three points.

Back to the website, where the heck is the injury news recorded??

That’s it for another day, have a good one all……

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz now to wake up for real proper football that matters…..!

No comments on Jovetic signing or the Bergy-Vieira rumours Rico….! Your slacking.

  2. Lee says:

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Thomas Vermaelen will miss Saturday’s match with Sunderland and that Laurent Koscielny faces a late fitness test.

The Belgian, despite sitting out his country’s win over Slovakia during the week, is still nursing the same ankle problem which he picked up against Liverpool a couple of weeks back and looks set for a while longer on the sidelines.

Having picked up a calf injury in France’s defeat to Germany on Wednesday it looked as though Koscielny would definitely miss the trip to the Stadium of Light, however, after a ‘reassuring’ scan it appears he may still be an option to partner Per Mertesacker in the centre of defence.

Should the Frenchman not recover an alternative option would be to play Bacary Sagna in the middle with Carl Jenkinson on the right. Despite loaning Johan Djourou to Hannover it doesn’t look as though young Ignasi Miquel or Sebastien Squillaci are options at this stage.

The boss also reiterated Kieran Gibbs’ absence meaning Nacho Monreal should continue at left-back ahead of Andre Santos. Aaron Ramsey and Francis Coquelin are both fit and could be picked for the trip north.

I have a garage Lee, motor in there mate no ice 😉

Jovetic is signing in the summer Rico, it’s in the red tops…..! Good eh…!

PREMIER LEAGUE clubs will be docked points for breaking new financial rules agreed last night.

Player costs, which include wages, are to be capped for the next three seasons as football chiefs look to stop the kind of cash splurges made by Chelsea and Manchester City in the past decade.
Clubs will also face ‘top-end’ punishments if losses are more than £105million over a three-year period.

Chelsea, City and Liverpool would all have been penalised if the rules had been in place during the last three years.

Regulations start next season so clubs could be docked points in 2016.

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore said: “Clubs are subject to our disciplinary commission. If they break the £105m we will be looking for top-end ultimate sanction range.

“There is an absolute prohibition of losing more than the £105m over the three years.”

The short-term measures also start from next season, limiting clubs to £52m in player costs.

If they are over that amount already they can only increase by £4m a season — but can spend increases in commercial or matchday income.

Scu added: “An owner can invest a decent amount to improve their club.

“What they aren’t going to be doing is throwing hundreds of millions at it in a very short period of time.”

  5. W.A.T.H says:

All that crap does is make it ok for the yank owners to not invest or spend any of their own money just keep hammering the fans to justify spendings…! What a load of old bollox.

  6. W.A.T.H says:

I made the garage out of twigs Lee, hardly flash mate… it’s a bit like a wig-wag but made of twigs and branches… works well though.

  7. rico says:

    Tr, we do…

Here here Jenks, key to the door now then 😉

Capoue and Jovetic = ambition, errrrrrrr, we don’t really have any of that do we?

  8. Bob John says:

    Hi Rico,
Disagree with you on Martin o’Neill and Sunderland. Lee Cattermole and his mates will be smashing into us all over the pitch.
Goal of the Month – Santi v WHU lovely move finished with a cheeky back-heel – perferction! Or Poldi v Stoke – just because of the opposition and to hear Clueless whinge!

  9. rico says:

Hi BJ ( doesn’t seem right typing that)

That’s fine, let’s see what tomorrow brings.

My fav was Gibbs. for the finish and the ball to him. Giroud I think it was….

  10. W.A.T.H says:

a WIG WAG is similar to a wig-wam but due to being made from a tree it wags around a bit 😉

    Smart arses…..! 😀

  11. W.A.T.H says:

I thought that was a paper bag over their heads Rico…?

A wig-wag can also refer to a syrup that has a pony tail… Stan could start a new trend…!

  12. Will XL says:

Did Miquel go out on loan? Le Squil is surely chomping at the bit for tomorrow. He might just sabotage kozzers fitness test.

  13. W.A.T.H says:

Miguel has been injured Will, not long back but as far as I am aware he’s fit now and I’d take him over that knob Squilli any day of the week, anyone staying purely to earn their pension and not preferring to play footie isn’t the kind of player we want in our squad let alone in the team.

Sorry for the Squilli insult Adam 😀

  14. Bob John says:

    Rico,
The favourite goal debate is similar to choosing your favourite album. Almost impossible but always good when you run out of pub conversation! for what its worth and out of left field, anyone remember Kanu’s goal v Deportivo when he went through, gave a quick faint, sat the keeper on his arse and walked the ball in? Sort of thing we did in the park but not in a game.

  15. rico says:

Just heard AW say he doesn’t think cheating goes on in the PL. I am amazed he thinks that when so many things have gone against us….

  16. Will XL says:

I’m so amazed by Sqilly’s failure in England. I remember being exited by his signing. He was a proper defender in Spain and for France.

I was certain he would be a hit. But then…

  17. rico says:

Have to agree there Bob, personal choice wins…

Will, I thought he’d be better than he’s turned out to be too….

  18. W.A.T.H says:

Will, he wasn’t that bad when we signed him I think he’s decided we are his pension fund though and he actually just can’t be bothered…!

  19. W.A.T.H says:

Emma, less I am blind didn’t see Squilli in those training pics either… fingers crossed.

I like Miguel he needs to be given some playing time… lad is gonna be top notch..!

  20. rico says:

Really pleased to hear Miquel is back, have a feeling we will need him very soon…..

Did we go on an unbeaten run with him alongside JD for a while Wath?

  21. allezkev says:

Yep, agree, Miquel is the way to go…

Squillaci is just an aberration, another Silvestre, best we all forget about him…
I just hope that Wenger has forgotten him as well…

  22. emma says:

Saw a pic of Gerv and Pires. I hope Pires will be able to teach forehead what to do when it comes to the final ball.
In wenger presser, he said if Kos is not fit enough to play tomorrow, sagna or miguel comes into contention for CB

    rico -samba style 🙂

  23. W.A.T.H says:

I have a feeling Bergy will be offered a position somewhere AK…

Can’t remember that Rico, I thought that was Koz and JD…?

  24. emma says:

From wenger’s statement it looks like he is done and dusted with squilly. Squilly is goiing to earn 5months wages before exiting in june without sweating. What a lucky chap 🙂

  25. rico says:

Phew, thank goodness no mention of the ageing Frenchman….

Was just after he arrived Wath, I could be wrong though, memory is not what it used to be 😉

  26. allezkev says:

Wath, there was some linkage to Patrick Vieira for the Academy job…
Dennis Bergkamp, Dermot Drummy, I imagine that there have been approaches made…

No doubt Burton has been seen as the most ‘cost-effective’…
    Now there’s a shock eh?

  27. allezkev says:

Rico, tbh, as much as i’d love to see Dennis return ‘home’, I kinda hope if and when he does, it’s to work with the first team…

  28. Will XL says:

He will be on the bench surely. Unless he starts both Jenks and Sagna which I believe it’s highly unlikely and unnecessary. Miquel is the way to go. Although he is far from the polished professional just now. Saw him have a howler in the reserves which allowed a goal. One such mistake in the first team and that could be his death sentence. The stakes are especially high from now until the end of the season.

  29. allezkev says:

Emma, i’m fairly sure that Wenger has the hump with Squillaci, or his agent, because his attempts to move him on both last Summer and in January, seemed to be deliberately scuppered, so that Squillaci can sit on his arse and coin it…

  30. Will XL says:

Former players who still have an interest and love for the club (pires, Henry) should take the opportunity to speak with the players who need tips…like Gerv and Ox…(but mostly Gerv) whenever they get a chance. Ox I believe can figure it out. But Gerv needs an advisor.

It’s obvious that he has the tools to torment a defense but he doesn’t have good decision making skills.and that’s frustrating. I just feel like someone like robbie or TT getting in his ear could do a world of good.

  31. mog says:

just read an intersting article on ladyarse about ticket prices. not saying its a bargain to go to the emirates just saying its interesting.

  32. W.A.T.H says:

Will, they can’t give Gerv a footballing brain no one can hence the problem it won’t matter who talks to him…! in one ear out the other..!

  33. W.A.T.H says:

I see Wenger has said they have given Gervinho time off after ACON… Very stingy I reckon why only 5 days and not 5 weeks…?

  34. emma says:

Will -The Gerv i saw playing for Lille is quite different from the one playing at arsenal. He is just a shadow of his former self. Zero confidence in his ability. He needs help but he needs to help himself first.

  35. rico says:

Does Gerv need any time off? He has done no more than the rest of the team have done. In fact he’s probably played a lot less…

Mind you, I’m not complaining 😉

  36. Will XL says:

Wath, while he’s still with us why not hope for the best? Even if it does seem impossible!

Emma, Hazard’s praise of Gerv wasnt frivolous. Maybe confidence is indeed the issue, but I think he’d do well with a video session or some one on one time. Wenger is renowned for his individual counseling, with many past players praising him for that, so he needs to put some time in with him. The problem is I believe Wenger sees him as a goal scoring talent. I beg to differ… He should try to emphasize the goal creation side. I think he’ll be much more successful if he looks to his teammates rather than the goal.

  37. emma says:

rico – Me too. It will be interesting to see who gets the youth dev. position as wenger stated in the presser any former player could be suitable for it

  38. rico says:

I wrote a few days ago Will that I hope he comes back with a lot more confidence that he went away with him. We need him to start performing.

That break may have come at the right time…

However….. as Lee would say, b………

  39. rico says:

I see Big Sam has been fined for daring to suggest that their FA Cup game was officiated by a team having a bad day…..

    Funny enough, against Fergie’s lot!

  40. smudge says:

A little bit of music does the Average arsenal supporter good. Unless he’s to much more than a pretty face.

    Ihttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdTg9n0_Rsc

  41. smudge says:

Rico put the socks away and lets cuddlehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GMy2bmSAIeA up real close!

    Dont worry about fido !

  42. Will XL says:

Smudge is a legend. Has there ever been a time when he posted normally?.. u know, speaking without the use of music videos?
