Just when we looked like being safe! Two weeks for Jenkinson…

Richard Scudamore has rubbished all the suggestion about binning the relegation in football. In fact he’s labelled such an idea as being ‘nonsensical’.

Earlier this week the League Managers Association chief executive Richard Bevan claimed that the American and Asian owners of Premier League clubs had expressed a desire to do away with the tradition of the English game that has been in place longer than I can remember.

Scudamore however has dismissed such suggestion saying it’s:

(a), I could never see it; and (b), there’s been no serious debate about it at all.

It’s just a nonsensical starting point… it’s scare-mongering of the worst order in my view. There is absolutely no appetite for it. You just can’t make statements without being able to back it up.

I’m probably the person sitting with the most evidence. I speak to the clubs on a regular basis. I speak to all the owners – both foreign and British – on a very regular basis and there’s no appetite for it whatsoever.

Ok, of course I was jesting about us, I’m sure we won’t end up in the relegation zone, nowhere near it but the thought of not witnessing a relegation battle each season would be awful.

Maybe if we all supported one of the sides who ends up down the bottom of the league, we may feel different but that good old tussle is very important, just as the one at the top is each season.

Both fights are about money, at the top of the league, and I mean any league, it’s all about promotion and financial award for that achievement or just plain survival in a league which pays well through television viewing.

Added to that, a relegation battle can so often play its part in who wins a league, again, any league and I am sure that in the Premier League it’s played it’s part on many an occasion, not only to who wins the league but deciding who qualifies for the European Competitions.

When teams are battling for survival, it so often brings out the fight in them, maybe the best of them so to kiss that all goodbye would be so wrong, and a sad day for English football..

Thankfully, Scudamore is very much on the ball, long may that remain eh….

Bloody foreign owners, not only do they want to buy the league, they want to destroy its history too…..

Finally, Wenger confirmed yesterday that Carl Jenkinson will be out for the next two matches, his return should be for the Chelsea fixture.

Good, I think most of us feared the worst…

Have a good day all….

Scrapping relegation eh? A noble gesture if I ever see one. Then maybe we ll have a league with 60 teams playing over 100 games. The nerve of these foreign owners. Hey here’s a thought, how about we do away with off sides, own goals and play with our hands! Boy, I outta….morning Rico.

  2. MikeB says:

    Morning all,

    just who are these people??

No names, no clubs… just a catch-all phrase to explain the foreign cancer that would eat away at our national heritage if we gave them the chance. (nods and winks all round, and cries of Harry for England, and out with these damn foreigners!).

If there are any legs in this story, which I seriously doubt, then names should be given.

Bit like Germany after the second world war… couldn’t find a Nazi in sight.

At least in WW2 the Nazis had actually existed, and weren’t just being used to legitimise a xenophobic point of view.

  3. rico says:

morning goonster, a crazy idea by some owners, like you say, we’d end up with a league of hundereds in time, unless promotion was also scrapped, then what would be the point of it all…

  4. rico says:

    Morning MikeB

I don’t think it will get anywhere near the PL having to vote or name and shame the owners, thankfully…

  5. rico says:

Oops, I forgot in the post…

Happy Birthday to Mr Wenger, wonder if he’s at the age for retiring yet 😉

  6. goonster says:

Rico let’s leave them to stew in their own filth. Let’s get back to what’s important….the arsenal! It seems le prof wants to rest robin this weekend. I think its a bad idea seeing he won’t be playing in the carling cup tie against bolton. He has 5 whole days to recover before the chavs game. We need to play him tomorrow…..maybe for 70 minutes.

  7. rico says:

Just been reading about Wenger wanting to rest RvP, he says on a monday he decidees to rest him and then by Friday he changes his mind…

I’d be bold, rest him tomorrow and the Bolton game, and go with Park and Chamakh….

  8. goonster says:

Today is his birthday! Goddamn! How old is he now rico? I think its about tome he steps down for someone younger. Pep, rijkaard, keown or even a combo of bould and bergy. That ll please me very much*big smile*

  9. MikeB says:

    Morning Rico,

    That wasn’t my point.

My point is that a CEO of any organisation shouldn’t be making accusations of this nature, without naming sources…

Otherwise, it smacks of the worst kind of tabloid journalism, rather than a serious item for discussion by legitimate bodies.

The number of foreign managers and owners, in the PL especially, is a bone of contention for certain factions in the LMA.

I see this as simply another stick to beat them with, rather than a genuine topic for discussion.

  10. goonster says:

No rico, robin needs to play against stoke. We won’t have too many chances so we need to take the few we ll can get. Chamakh is a wonderful player but he won’t get us the goals we need and park is still an unknown quantity. RVP needs to start cause stoke ll come to stifle us.

  11. rico says:

    62 years old i think goonster…

I realised your point Mike but unless something official is submitted to the PL, they wouldn’t release details…

Whether it’s true or not, I don’t know, I’m just glad that the FA, having heard the rumour/truth/story have made it clear that any suggestion is a non starter….

  12. goonster says:

Besides we need to keep them busy all afternoon. Give them something to think about. Chamakh won’t scare them but robin will. We need to win this before heading to stamford bridge any slip up and we might find ourselves further behind the leading pack.

  13. rico says:

goonster, thats what happens when we have to rely so much on one player, he doesn’t get rested – i hope the meds are keeping a check on his gps…..

  14. rico says:

good point goonster, he is the only ‘fear factor’ player we have right now…

i think theo is due a good game….

  15. goonster says:

Yeah rico…that’s why am eagerly awaiting the return of diaby! I have this feeling this might be his season. With FAB and nashit gone, I think this might be his time to shine.

  16. goonster says:

Theo….psssst please mama bear. He won’t not with wenger chucking him out on the wings. He’s so predictable. Runs to the by line and cross. He’s a one trick pony. Won’t change anytime soon. Play the OX for pete”s sake.

  17. rico says:

Diaby, eagerly awaiting his return, gooster pleeeese 😉

Maybe though he would give us something different, maybe a whole 90 mins would be a start 😉

Re Chamberlain, i don’t think he’ll start, he’ll be waiting for Bolton to arrive…

  18. goonster says:

Rico I believe in diaby so much he’s got everything it takes to make a superb player. Strength, skill, good tackler and a mean shot. He ll come good. You know am never wrong…..just ask TT! I did predict kozzer ll come good didn’t I?*winks*

  19. agirlagunner says:

Boo! There’s a sense of urgency about teams in relegation that makes viewing eminently entertaining. Surely, that cannot be scrapped. 😀

Hello, rico and goonster. How are you today? 🙂

  20. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Good morning!
So theo at RB? It’s made? 😉
We have another match next tuesday, I think, versus Bolton. So OX and Park don’y play tomorrow.
    Have a nice day!

  21. goonster says:

Hey agag…where have you been lil mama? Haven’t seen ya since the sunderland game. You ok? Rico I think you need to start e mailing “US” the HH family. To find out how we are doing. Like I ve not seen KT DK and osi in a while now.

  22. rico says:

Welcome Paul, Park for sure, Chamerlain will get his chance, hopefully sooner rather than later…

Hope the latter is on the bench and if Theo has another mare, replace him…

  23. rico says:

I know you believe in diaby goonster but the guy can’t stay fit, let alone preform…

morning agag, good thanks, just waiting for tomorrow 🙂

Hi JM, bye JM …. Have a good day yourself..

  24. rico says:

Kt is poorly, i did mention that on Wednesday but adk and osi, i guess they are just busy, mr is hasn’t been around either…

  25. goonster says:

About time too says I! We need players who wanna play, not sulk about like a spoilt child on a playground. Give the OX a crack. Oh my, wait a minute? Whatever happened to ryodinho? Lordy! I knew it. This smacks of mismanagement rico. This kid should have been left back at feyenoord to learn his trade or better still sent to bolton on loan as a bait to get cahill. Does wenger even think? This kid is needs games. From what I ve heard he’s tearing the reserves apart. I see a vela mack 2 you guys. Be afraid….be very afraid!

  26. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners.
    Morning Rico/Stan/agag/et al.
    Interesting post Rico.
A scenario? The EPL is in the bag at around Easter, not an unusual occurance, so what keeps the season alive?
    That’s it, the relegation battle!
Oh, and yeah, they’re going to scrap the play~off final…
The most valuable one~off match in sport.
    Yeah right…

  27. rico says:

We said back in the summer goonster, too much cannot be expected from Ryo and Chamberlain, they are young, bones are still growing etc etc….

And this league is a tough one…

    Ryo against Bolton maybe??

Kt is in bed sick, flu i think…

  28. goonster says:

Morn kev….bites huh? I blame that fuck face abrahamovic for this. Had he not bought over a dying franchise we won’t be in this mess. Viva la revolution. Was that french or italian? Beats me*winks*

  29. rico says:

    Morning AK,

Spot on and don’t SS’s just love all the drama – i think the PL title will go to the wire this season, with maybe 5/6 clubs involved until May, then we just pip them all 😆

  30. allezkev says:

I suppose giving RVP a rest does make sense. Then he would be firing on all cylinders at the Pensioners.
Let Chamakh batter away against SRFU & then if need be bring on Robin for a 15/20 min blast at the end if we need a goal against the tiring ‘Up & Under’ mob.

  31. rico says:

I just dread an injury to RvP AK, afc ignored jack playing in the red, they surely wouldn’t risk doing that with robin… would they?

I’d rest him tomorrow, or keep him on the bench, it’s about time someone else took some respoinsibilty in games….

    Huge dream eh 😉

  32. Micko says:

Thanks for clearing that up rico, so its 40 points and we’re safe.

And it looks like jenks, kt and verm are all two weeks away.

  33. Micko says:

I’d start with rvp tomorrow, he’s the one player who can make the difference, we’re toothless without him, he can then have the rest of the week off and be ready to go again next weekend.

  34. agirlagunner says:

Silly internet. Pfft. Hiya, gooner, “lil mama” eh? Haha. Just been busy.

Hi, rico. Can’t wait for tomorrow myself. I like the we will pip em all myself. 😀 Hey, AK. Howdy? Hello, Micko. I’d start with Robin myself. But the thugs of Stoke will rough him up, I’m sure of it.

  35. rico says:

Hi Micko, i reckon all three fit and ready for the pensioners, that would be a bit of a boost eh…

Kt back in two weeks too 🙂

  36. rico says:

That’s what i worry about too agag, but, i think pulis has got them playing football these days and not so much of the rough stuff that used to be in their game – i saw some of the game when they played manure, they we unlucky not to win…

Micko – he’d start every game for me but not sure his body can take it – at some stage someone else has to start taking responsibilty up front, the players are doing the same with robin as the players did in the henry days…

  37. Micko says:

Hi agag, i don’t think we have much choice, we need to get a good run now and we won’t do that without our main striker, anyhows stoke play beautiful football these days, rvp will be fine.

  38. Micko says:

Rico, thats the problem, we don’t have anyone that can come in and fill his boots, take the bull by the horns.
Will we see a prolific striker join us in january, most of them cost a few quid ?

  39. rico says:

I doubt it, not unless Chamakh is sold Micko, knowing Wenger Nik returning in the summer will be a ‘new signing’…

I know i keep going on, but when is Park going to be tried….

Wenger said yesterday that Merts can score goals, maybe he’s going to play up front 😉

It amazes me that he hasn’t scored yet, how has he not managed to get his head on the end of one of our corners?

  40. Micko says:

I know time changes things but Bendtner has made it clear on a couple of occasions that he has played his last game for us, i think it would suit both parties if he moved on.
I was thinking the same thing the other night, surely we’re gonna score from one of these corners, we need to attack them more, vermaelen is good at doing that, sometimes you have to brave and put your head in where it hurts.
Park on the park would be a sight to behold.

  41. agirlagunner says:

I wouldn’t go so far as to say “beautiful”, Micko. Maybe a little less agricultural though. Yeah, rico. Saw that too. I’m not convinced they are not rough. Teams face us, and for some reason decide to act all macho men. To be fair, our red card record this season shows we’re no angels ourselves. We shall see.

  42. goonster says:

Is pennant fit to face us? I hope he doesn’t though. He ll be a handful for JD or santos. We need to keep him quiet and hope theo and gervinho keeps them on the defensive all through.

  43. allezkev says:

I’m just sitting outside St Paul’s next to the anti~capitist camp. It’s like Woodstock. A load of unwashed teenagers listening to a music concert.
    Peace & Love.
Is Etherington fit for tomorrow. I thought he had some fitness issues?

  44. allezkev says:

Hey Oliver, pity your not here.
When Jimi comes on we can both enjoy the Star Spangled Banner. A classic… 🙂

  45. allezkev says:

Actually agag, i did think that i saw Lee a couple of minutes ago, dragging on a huge reefer. Well that’s what it looked like.

  46. agirlagunner says:

Some good weather for a change, AK. How cold is it there? I am busy with stuff I wish I were not busy with (i.e.; work) 😉 And you? Santos is a tad heavy. One too many tea breaks, I guess. 😀

  47. Joaquim Moreira says:

    I’m watching wolves-Swansea. So, te injuries for tomorrow: Sagna, Diaby, vermaelen, Gibbs,Wilshere,Jenkinson, and that’s all ? only 6??? It’s a progress…

  48. Joaquim Moreira says:

I’m watching now Dortmund – koln. Half time 3-0. So Dortmund rest 3 days the same that Stoke do. Who cares about 3 days of rest? Do you expect Stoke performance tomorrow, decrease because they were played Thursday? I’m not sure…

  49. Erick says:

Jm am sure Stoke will be fired up forour game tomorrow..they are always are when they paly a top four team so we should be on top of our game to be honest

  50. rico says:

No JM, Stoke had a pretty easy game, shame the red card doesn’t carry to the PL though 😉

As Erick syas, nothing like a trip to The Emirates to get Pulis motivated….

  51. goonster says:

Not as if its important guys but when do the swampies play? Hope they lose and adebarndoor gets a six match ban for bitch slapping the ref.

  52. Erick says:

    Rico
Yes work and all tough times fro me but am coming through tahsk you
    Goonster
think they play tomo hope they get relegated lol

  53. goonster says:

That’s the spirit erick and shite hart lane gets turned into a public toilet…..hey its already is! LMAO

  54. Erick says:

Goonster he he the scums are crap they might as well paly in the championship lol

    Rico
You will seeing more of me to be honest…trying to get my stuff in order 🙂

  55. Erick says:

I would love it if the Manchester Derby would have like 60 yellow cards and 25 red cards….is that possible in a game of football.

  56. goonster says:

Erick I ll love for howard webb to give fergie a huge atomic weggie and then get smacked down by de jong and out for months

  57. rico says:

    Nah goonster,

until he comes back, plays three games on the trot without injury, and plays as if he wants to be at afc, he’ll be the butt of my stick…

I still blame him for the 4-4 at St James, petulant idiot he was that day….

  58. goonster says:

Rico…barton meant to crush his ankles to bits. This is a guy who has suffered a leg break and other niggling injuries. What would you have done. Folks tend to forget we are humans first, professional footballers second. Had it been me….God I would have slam my whole weight on his skull!

  59. rico says:

In a footballing world goonster, he should have behaved better – you cannot behave in that way during sport, just like Song should never have stamped on Barton either….

  60. goonster says:

Song’s was uncalled for mama bear but we all tend to forget we are humans and a human first act after being attack is self defense. Diaby was incensed that barton went two footed to catch his ankle. Like you said he shouldn’t have behaved that way but he’s human after all. I remember seeing a footage of that turd cantona “jet liing” a fan in the stands once….what was the fan’s crime? Goading him right? They are humans after all.

  61. rico says:

Humans yes, but sporting professionals and the latter should not behave in such a way – be strong, be competative, play with a never say die attitude but…

The moment any one of our players lay a hand on another, they become just as bad as the Bartons of this world…

I am really anti violence goonster, especially within sport….

  62. allezkev says:

Stan, Rico is really anti~violent, so don’t you go upsetting her or she’ll punch your lights out….. :-). :-). 🙂
Tea break… Swansea Wolves sounded a good game.

  63. devilgunner says:

    Evening guys and chicks. 🙂

We are all humans. So reacting, although not professional is acceptable. However the best way is not to react immediately when the ref is looking. Pay him back around at the end of the match or else in an innocent situation is what should be done. Roy Keane (one of my favourites, although he used toplay for the Manure club) used to pay back around the last minute or injury time, so if he was sent off it would not harm the team by being a man less.

  64. allezkev says:

    Hey DG. 2 toast, a pkt of bourbons & a tea… Hmm.
Win tomorrow Rico, i do hope so, but it’ll be another tight 90mins i reckon. A lot of pundits think that SRFU can get a draw… BFG is in for an interesting afternoon.

  65. Erick says:

    Rico
Thats terrible Diaby I would rather be Vela lol always scores a great goal but always missing and never injured 😉
Liverpool Norwich look more like it lol

  66. goonster says:

Erick….how about a norwich player gore gerrard’s eyes out and kick that prick daglish so hard on the nuts his balls explode.

  67. rico says:

Guys, another early one for me, Strictly and the X-factor make my saturday night great…

You all be good and have a wonderful saturday night….

    3-1 tomorrow 😉

  68. Erick says:

Night Rico…… Goonerster ha ha Suarez be a cheat I know he will get a player sent off

Al no sure where that is but am from Africa lol

  69. goonster says:

Trust me jm they ll score but we ll beat them. G’night mama bear. HAve a good one even though I hate that show.
