Julian Draxler wants Arsenal move. Arsenal to bid £50 million for striker in January. Bobby wants more spending and Petit likes what he sees…

Morning all.

Don’t get too excited, he’s also said that he’d be prepared to move to Manchester United or Chelsea, in fact any of the big clubs.

I owe Schalke a lot. But I’m not so rooted here that I could not tear myself away.

I can honestly say that it is my dream to play for one of the big clubs at some point.

You don’t have to be playing for the very top clubs in Europe to draw attention to yourself, but if you want to achieve the great goals that the world-class players have, then one of them is playing at the biggest clubs in the world.

It’s not just me suggesting that we are one of those big clubs he mentions, Draxler himself see’s us that way:

The big two in Spain – Real and Barcelona – Bayern and a few others from England, namely Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea.

Draxler is a fan of our ex Real Madrid man, a huge fan. So much so he  is said to be modelling himself on his team-mate in the German camp.

I’ve always said I’m a big fan of Mesut Ozil, who ventured abroad and developed at Real Madrid into a world-class player.

Just to be a team-mate of his [with the German national team] makes me quite proud.

It’s fair to say that this young man, who is still just 20 years old is considered to be one of the best young players in the Bundesliga right now and his current club, Shalke 04 would demand some serious money for their player who in May this year, signed a contract extension which runs until 2018.

Arsene Wenger though is no longer afraid to spend big money it seems, certainly not for the right quality but, as good as Draxler is, could our manager squeeze another attacking midfielder into this current Arsenal side?

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if he would, he loves midfielders and maybe, our ever growing number of German players at Arsenal could be enough to convince the player that we are the better option for him. Right now we have Lukas Podolski, Mesut Ozil, Per Mertesacker, Serge Gnabry and of course Thomas Eisfeld. Mind you, I wonder where Eisfelds future is heading, at 20 years old, he should be banging on the door to the first team.

Talking of big money, Robert Pires, who has been in London training with the first team, wants Arsene Wenger to continue his spending:

If you look at all the successful clubs who won titles and trophies, they always buy after they have been successful. There is no question that Arsenal are at a high level at this moment. They are playing to the kind of football played during my time at the club. And Ozil – well, he is world-class.

But there appears to be a new financial philosophy at Arsenal now. Arsene can spend money, more than he has been able to do before and I believe he should add to the squad when he can.

Amen to that Sir Bobby.

One of those players could be Luis Suarez according to The Mirror who suggest that Liverpool are ready so sell him in January. Paul Smith, who wrote the article believes that we will bid £50 million for the striker in January. However, he goes onto say that should the Spanish club try to sign Suarez in January, no matter how much we bid, the player will turn us down in preference to a move to Spain.

Finally, Emmanuel Petit, who not too long ago, was tearing us apart during his interviews has seen a huge difference at the club:

Ozil has been magnificent. He cost a lot of money but was the best bargain in the window and Flamini has given the team something they lacked.

Arsenal went into the international break as league leaders but Petit has urged caution:

They still have to face Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Manchester United. They will be big tests. And there is now the international break. It can sometimes be difficult to keep the same momentum you had before the break.

But I have to say that so far they have been tremendous and playing some excellent football – football that is great to watch and some of the best in Europe and the arrival of Ozil is a positive sign for the fans. It looks now as though the club are bringing in the top players rather than selling them .

With Aaron Ramsey looking back at his best after a bad injury, the signs are good.

This could well be the season when they win a major trophy after a long wait.

See, these old boys aren’t just all bitter and twisted as they so often get labelled when criticising Arsenal, they just talk about how they see things through a fan and ex players point of view and he is no different to many many Arsenal fans. When things appear wrong, he says what he thinks and equally, when things look good, he doesn’t shy away from dishing out the praise…

You can’t get more honest than that……

Have a good day all….

    Morning Rico. Good post.
We certainly are in serious need of a striker aren’t we? If the stories about RM finances are right then they would need to sell first before bidding for Suarez whereas we could probably pay a big lump up front. If not, then Reus for sure, though would he be able to play in the CL?
It’s all a bit early but conjecture is understandable on such a horribly rainy day.

  2. rico says:

Morning Adam, thank you. It’s an awful morning and very dark…

Draxler can play as a striker too can’t he?

I’d love Suarez but as we have said before, just can’t see Liverpool selling to us..

    Morning rico and all
Great to be an arsenal fan now,
being linked with top class players,
and knowing we could make a bid if we want to,
makes us gooners feel we can now
compete with the big boys, for the top dogs.
The next big signing will be I hope,
the match winner for us..fingers crossed.

As regards to Ozil man utd rumours if true,
    thats ozil and ramsey.
Just imagine how good utd would be with them two.

Morning fred. It’s certainly a lot better than the last few seasons, as Petit says, we are looking to sign players now and not sell our best..

Really hope we can carry on our form and with players coming back, we should be stronger, certainly from the bench.

Nov is a huge month imho, and would be wonderful if we can beat Chelsea in the CO Cup.

  5. gary gillespie says:

I think draxler is an unbelievable talent and everything he does comes so natural I honestly do think he will b as good if not better than ozil i.e goals wise maybe not assists lol premiership would b a great test united should go for him were the only top four team that needs him and badly that would b an awesome partner for rvp well worth his buy out clause of 43.5 million euros also german football is where its at

  6. gary gillespie says:

I cant see arsenal going for him arsene wenger needa get rid of midfielders as it is rosicky, arteta, wilshere flamini, ozil, ramsey, cazorla, diaby these are all starting players. How many of them can play on the wing? Overcrowded to say the least in the middle of the park. Im a die hard united fan but its nice to see arsene smiling so much glad to see the teams with history back up there instead of the clubs that have daddys that drive rolls royces and built there success over night chelsea and city good to see arsenal back and liverpool sorry ill take Liverpool out of that lol. Imagine draxler rvp partnership unbelievable 40 goals a season for rvp would b quite a comfortable target with a man like draxler behind him even so young hes an unbelievable talent if arsenal can spend 42.5 million pounds on ozil which I dont understand why we did not go for him he came to us first david moyes is -1 on the score sheet for that one we have more spending power than the gunners why not get him and put a statement out to europe we live youth talent his stock can only go up hes not a michael “bollocks” sorry ballack moyes get him scouted now and interest shown in january but not publicly jesus no and get ikay gundogan aswell we can start our own german after all germany is where its at ryt now and Belgium .

    Morning All.
Morning Rico, good post, as per usual…

With Liverpool going all out to regain a top-four spot, possibly at the expense of ManYoo, the suggested signing of Suarez looks very unlikely…

Goal scoring midfielders like Reus or Draxler look a good alternative if Wenger cannot find a striker who fits the bill…

I would take Reus in January.
A good World Cup could see his transfer value rocket…

Eisfeld will probably leave on loan in January, Zelalem is in front of him as probably is Olsson…

  8. rico says:

    Morning Kev, thanks.

Many a headline suggesting that Brenda is already looking for a replacement for Suarez as they have accepted he wants out. Like you though, I just can’t see him coming our way sadly.

Reus, Draxler – either would be right up our street…

Eisfield is a strange one, he’s no kid yet he’s not doing enough to get a chance. Did he play in the CO Cup? I can’t recall seeing him..

  9. BrainwashedKev says:

Good article in the Telegraph, discussing the lack of strikers, and the rise of teams packed with midfielders…

Chelsea playing 4 6 0 at OT. And
West Ham winning 3-0 at WHL using 4 6 0 could be the beginnings of a different attacking tactical approach?!!!

  10. BrainwashedKev says:

I would need to be massively convinced that Bendtner is a changed man.
But those two Danish goals are at least a positive that could help us later in the season.
Better that Nick is in good nick in case we need him.

Is he playing for his World Cup place?
Is he playing for a new contract??
Is he playing for a lucrative summer Bosman???
Or has he finally grown up????

A combination of the above seems, to me, to be the answer…

  11. rico says:

Thanks Gavin, you and me both. Looking forward to next Saturday….

NB scored twice for Denmark, IF we have to play him, just pray he can do the same for us..

  12. gary gillespie says:

Yea will do soz it came up on mobile.newsnow and read it thought id giv my opinion cus yas have a midfield of champs atm no joke

  13. rico says:

gary – no probs, but talking up Rvp won’t get a good response on here.. He’s crocked isn’t he, the start of a long lay off I hope 😉

  14. stevepalmer1 says:

    Morning all, nice one Rico.
Another midfielder i don’t think so, striker first, then when. Arteta or Rosiski retlre maybe a Draxler then. We should have brought a striker before Ozil 42 milll we didn’t need to spend .

  15. rico says:

Thanks Sp, Striker, Central/Right sided defender and a right back if Sagna goes…

But I strongly disagree re Ozil being money we didn’t need to spend, what he has done for our squad is clear to see…

  16. Joaquim Moreira says:

Einsfeld future (and others) will be decide after next game against Chelsea. If we don’t win, probably they will be on loan.
I like Draxler. Suarez too but I’m quite sure he probably goes to Madrid. Moreover, his image in The League it’s very “dark” and I’m not sure we will be interesting in a player focus by press by them wrong acts.
    I prefer Kiessling even Lukatu.
TW was played by Belgium last Tuesday?

  17. rico says:

There is more to it than that though, he’s lifted the whole squad, he’s lifted the fans and when they get behind the team, they play better. When they play better, the fans get louder…

Yes he’s a world class player in his own right but others around him have vastly lifted their game to match his…

Totally different to anything before when we sold our best, I think it deflated the squad…

Also, now we are seen to be a serious club, a club that better players will want to join..

Signing Ozil goes a lot deeper than just signing a great player in my opinion…

  18. Tim says:

afternoon rico, with the squad we have and the games we will play this season I think we should add both draxler and reus as long term replacement for arteta and rosicky..suares can come in the summer because we will be champions and liverpool wont qualify for the champions league.

  19. HenryB says:

    Lovely Post, Rico, well done!

It is amazing what one world class player has done to the team and the fans.

It is a pleasure chatting positively about Arsenal again, with our hopes high.

When, and it will be when, we hit another dodgy/incompetent ref like we had for the Villa game and we do not get a good result, that the loyal fans remember that the difference between success and failure is cigarette paper thin, and realise their support can make all the difference.

I look forward to reading your Post, in May, when we have won the Prem League.

(OK, I have had a drink, or two, but in vino veritas, (in wine, the truth will out!) 🙂

  20. rico says:

Thanks Hb, that was just my point earlier, Ozil signing has truly lifted the spirits of all those who love the club.

Of course we are still short of 2/3 players who would in my opinion make us so much stronger/deeper, but we all being well, January/Summer will see those additions..

May, I’d love to be writing that PL winners post but…….

Go and have another glass 😉

  21. Tim says:

our away form will win us the league and rico remember greed comes with hunger (we are hungry for trophies and if greed can win us all trophies the better)

  22. rico says:

I’m not going to get ahead of myself Tim, it’s far too early in the season. Still top at Christmas or just a few points off the top then I might start to believe we could win it…

  23. Adam says:

I agree that Ozil has given everyone’s the club a lift. As for Draxler? Why not. Quality is always welcome.

  24. BrainwashedKev says:

Good comments Tim, speculate to accumulate (trophies)…

Thinking of asking my barber to construct a quiff, in honour of the Great Quiffed One…
What do ya think Adam? 😉

  25. BrainwashedKev says:

Good comments Tim, speculate to accumulate (trophies)…

Thinking of asking my barber to construct me a Quiff instead of my usual short back and sides, when I next visit him, in honour of the Great Quiffed One…
What do ya think Adam? 😉

  26. Alan Warner says:

Draxler, Bender,Reus, Jackson Martinez, LLorente on lone with summer buy option would all be good bets, stear clear of Benzema…Surarez..Rooney, just wasting your time….!!! We could even buy Draxler and loan him back!! if they really wanted.

  27. Tim says:

I understand you rico but I think our team is playing as a unit,am also confident we will get points from the big boys.

  28. rico says:

I too think we’ll get points off the likes of Chelsea and both Manc sides Tim, I really do and its clear to see we are playing much better in all areas of the pitch. But I still worry about the depth of our squad…

  29. BrainwashedKev says:

    Hi Rico…

Wenger has never beaten Mourinho, but nothing lasts forever and the deciding factor in many of those disappointing results vs Mourinho (Drogba) isn’t there anymore…

Knocking them out of the League Cup would do for starters…

  30. rico says:

Spot on Kev, and we are a very different side to the one he last faced.

The CO Cup will be a tough one for AW to call. Does he play a stronger side or carry on with the young/squad players..

  31. tsgh says:

    hi All,

    Good read Rico…

Kev,I am with you on Eisfield.. he even scored the goal for us before he was subbed…

Eisfield is like Pires at 19/20… AW has even commented on the similarities between the 2.
Pires was also always questioned, the reason why we managed to get him from OM for cheap; Even when he was doing well for Metz he was considered too weak a player as he never really dominated a game but would score out of nothing…

Hopefully Eisfield can develop to be the idea replacement for the Mozart…

  32. Tim says:

We hav an opportunity to make a statement of intent,we play norwich, palace, manu n liverpool in the league, chelsea IN C.O.C and dortmund home and away in the champions league before the next international ,I hope you will post something like “Going to the next international break on top, both domestically and in europe ” rico.

  33. rico says:

    Thanks Ts..

Tim, we certainly have, but i’m just taking game by game with my fingers and toes crossed… and hoping that we come out of a really tough month well…

  34. rico says:

But that’s the truth Ts, we should be adding to what we have, not swapping or selling, other than those who are not deemed good enough and Gnabry doesn’t fall into that category..

Draxler could easily support Giroud, as could Reus…

  35. Tim says:

I think the capital one cup poldi,theo,santi,sagna,nacho,TV5,bendtner,arteta,viviano will all need minutes under their belts add youngsters and we will be good.

  36. rico says:

    Time will tell Tim…

That’s me done for the day, off to watch the soaps and stuff..

Have a good night all, ’til tomorrow all..

    Night

  37. Nashuagunners says:

Good night Rico and thanks for giving us something everyday that we look forward to, as Arsenal is concern.
