Journalist expects Partey departure & Striker talks next week.

Morning all.

Fabrizio Romano, often not far from transfer rumours which actually have an element of truth to them. Well, yesterday he told JD Football channel on YouTube that Thomas Partey will be leaving Arsenal this summer.

Thomas [Partey] will leave, Jorginho has extended. There are several players they have on the list (as potential replacements). For example, a player they always appreciated is Douglas Luiz last summer, but you know negotiations with Villa is never that easy. So let’s see what’s going to happen there. They have several players lined up, so I think there is a good chance they will bring in a midfielder.

Well, if Romano is right on this one which I suspect he is, Arsenal are almost certain to sign a replacement.

Only in years gone by would the club go into a new season with just two central defence minded midfielders of which one will turn 33 years old mid season. Declan Rice needs a midfield partner who is robust, young and athletic. Jorginho is none of those things although he’s excellent at doing what he does.

Romano mentioned Luiz but I think that ship has sailed. Bruno Guimaraes is another player who has been linked with us. He allegedly has a £100 million clause in his contract which expires the end of next month. After that I think Newcastle will slap an even bigger price tag on his head. Talking to Newcastle’s official website, Guimaraes said:

Personally, it was a great pleasure to be present in 50 out of 51 games this year. I was the player who covered the most kilometres in the Premier League.

That’s the kind of robustness I’m talking about – featuring in 50 of the 51 one games played.

Amadou Onana, Martin Zubimendi and Jurrien Timber’s twin brother Quinten have also been linked to Arsenal in recent weeks but considering Mikel Arteta’s likening of versatility, Quinten Timber sounds more like the kind of player the club might go for.

Remember all those years ago when we were tipped to sign Frank and Ronald de Boer but ended up with neither? Well, at least we already have one of the Timber twins and I’m really looking forward to seeing him play next season. If we end up signing his brother then I just hope he has something different to Timber on the back of his shirt. lol

In other news, according to Football London, Sturm Graz chief Andreas Schicker told Kurier that he is due to discuss a potential deal for Mika Biereth next week:

Yes, we want to try to sign Mika permanently. There is an appointment with Arsenal next week. Maybe they will quote a price that would be feasible for us. We can push our limits a little higher for a player like that.

If Biereth isn’t in Arteta’s long term plans, then I guess there’s a deal to be done.

Joshua Zirkee is back in the headlines for Arsenal. Probably because Frank de Boer has been talking to Bet365 about where he thinks the player should go this summer. De Boer thinks he should snub other clubs and sign for Arsenal.

Catch up in the comments..

    Morning Rico and all,
According to story on the internet Man U manager claims the owners want him to stay and start a full rebuild of the club with them.

Looking forward to the transfer season to open to see who we really do sell and buy.

  2. Devilgunner says:

    Good Morning Rico and all

I would love us to sign Timber’s brother….if anything for the bamboozling effect it will have on the commentators…….imagine a breakaway counterattack…..Timber intercepts a pass, passes to Timber who advances and passes again to his brother Timber who goes on a run with the ball, passes it on the flank to Timber who has acres of space to shape his cross and it floats perfectly for Timber to head home. That would be hilarious.

I wonder if Richard Keys would have something to say about that. Hang on, he would say that Arsenal should’nt be allowed more than one Timber on field at a time. Probably if one of them is a sub Keys would say that we gave them a half time each to rest each player lol

  3. Devilgunner says:

Quinten Timber is a solid player but not at the level of his brother. More like a squad versatile player who can do a job like Grimandi did

  4. Canadian Gooner says:

Good morning to the lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Three Gabriels (possibly only two next season) and now possibly two Timbers. Very confusing, but as long as the team on the field can keep it straight and win the game, who cares about the commentators sorting it out?

  5. rico says:

Good morning to you Cg, long time and all that. Hope all is well…

It’s a good week, first Devil returns and now you…

  6. Cicero says:

Good morning Rico, the F A Cup Final has always been something special to look forward to at the end of the season. Today’s edition just doesn’t hold any interest for me, I couldn’t give a monkey’s about who wins. Even if, as expected City win, the trophy will eventually go to United courtesy of the sanctions against the biggest football cheats of all-time.

I’ve only ever been to two Cup Finals, 1964 West Ham vs Preston after which my future wife accepted my proposal, and the unforgettable 1971 triumph to give us the double. Memorable events indeed.😉

  7. rico says:

Morning Cicero, Wembley definitely isn’t what it used to be for you then. lol

I’ve never been and that’s unlikely to ever change..

    Morning one and all…

Around Christmas time last year I took John Heitinga from Stratford to London City Airport and of course had a nice conversation with him about Jurrien Timber. Heitinga had coached both of the Timber brothers through the Ajax academy and had been on the 1st team staff prior to last season (where he was working for West Ham) before falling out with the new German director of football and leaving Amsterdam.

The German was sacked midway through last season.

He was full of praise for Jurrien and said that Arsenal had signed a top top player.

    Speaking of Quinton.
He said he was also equally talented to Jurrien but was slower in his development. Heitinga was against Ajax releasing Quinton and it seems that he’s been proven correct as Quinton (or is it Quinten) has developed into a key player at Feyenoord, a player Tottenham have been strongly linked to.

  9. Cicero says:

Aw c’mon Rico if Arsenal were in next season’s final and there was a ticket available are you saying you wouldn’t go?

The other thing about Cup Final day was the pre-match attraction at the Wembley Pool, World of Sport’s Kent Walton and the wrestling. Mick McManus and Steve Logan, The Royale Brothers, Billy Two Rivers, Johnny Black Kwango, Jackie Pallo. Now that’s what I call entertainment.

  10. Canadian Gooner says:

    Rico,

All is well. I have had some health issues with a few bits and bobs removed, but everything is now resolved. I’ve just been busy with the growing family, none of whom still live in the city now. The time difference is a great inconvenience. However, I have kept current with our team and their games.
Although the noon kickoffs come mighty early here.

I have missed the banter and camaraderie in the house and will drop in occasionally during the silly season and endeavour to be more regular during the new season.

  11. rico says:

Kev, hopefully Jurrien will encourage his brother to swerve Totts..

Cicero, nope, I wouldn’t go. Too much hassle to get there etc.

  12. rico says:

Cg, well, I’m just glad you’re on the mend and hope it stays that way.

It’s certainly silly season but in a flash it’ll be over and the Arsenal will be back ready for another season. Hopefully one which ends a little better than this one.

  13. Canadian Gooner says:

    Good Morning Kev!

I’m glad to see it is AllezKev and not your more pessimistic alter-ego the Reverend Kev. Any insights or words of wisdom on our Academy players (e.g. Biereth)? You usually follow them closely.

  14. Devilgunner says:

Just read this on Arsenal Fanatics News…….

Paul Merson on Rodri’s comment about Arsenal’s mentality: “Rodri’s comments will only help Arsenal. You come back [from the summer break] and they’ll say, ‘We’ll show you.’ I thought it was wrong, because Arsenal did nothing wrong. One game, one game against Villa, they’re a good team who can catch you on the counter.
“It wasn’t like last year where it was West Ham, Southampton, teams like that. For me, that’ll be on the dressing room door the first day in pre-season.
“There’s no doubt about that, I don’t know why he said it – it’s a bit harsh. They came back after New Year, they brushed themselves down and it’s one game that’s cost them.
“Just phenomenal. But one hundred per cent will that comment be in Mikel Arteta’s team talk when they come back.”

If the manager was George Graham you can bet your last penny that such a comment would be drummed into the players’ heads, on the team talk board, in front of the loo, beside the bath in a frame, on the bed head, on the bedside table. In other words everywhere.

  15. Devilgunner says:

Talks scheduled between Arsenal and Emile Smith Rowe to decide on his future. They will take place imminently.
Smith Rowe has a deep affection for Arsenal, but getting regular game time now key to the 23-year-old.
Aside from a couple of brief injury lay-offs, the club’s academy product was fit for the majority of the campaign, but was rarely used by boss Mikel Arteta as the club looked to secure a first Premier League title in 20 years.
And talks between Smith Rowe’s camp and Arsenal are now scheduled ahead of the summer transfer window, with the attacking midfielder heading into the final two years of his contract with the Gunners. [ CharlieWatts ]

  16. Aussie Geoff says:

I would prefer we stay away from having 2 brothers in the same team. For 3 reasons.
    (1) they keep looking to pass to each other
    (2) one who gets regular game time, get the shits with Arteta if he doesn’t give his brother much game time
    (3) the brothers have a full out, will they bring personal issues to the club

  17. rico says:

Sounds ominous Devil. He must be thinking about moving on.

For the comments from Rodri, think back to Toney’s Twitter comment.

You bet Arteta will use Rodri’s comment to inspire the players.

  18. Aussie Geoff says:

Rico I seen brothers in the same team in Aussie rules, and all they done was keep looking for each other in the end the club sold one of them as it wasn’t the problems.

  19. Cicero says:

We’ve had brothers in the team before, Leslie and Dennis Compton. Dennis also played cricket for England while Leslie played for Middlesex in the County Championship.

Not sure two Dutch brothers would get into cricket though. 😉

  20. Devilgunner says:

Arteta is a different kettle of fish to many managers Geoff. The way he dealt with (rightly imo) Ozil, Auba and Guendouzi speaks volumes. Those who are found guilty of insubordination are quickly dealt with.

Keep in mind that he is even ruthless with those who adhere to his methods. A case in point Tierney. I guess that 95% of us DO want KT03 back in the team since he always gives 100%. But he still got sent out. Ramsdale??? He got relegated to sub keeper and is probably on the way out. And no doubt Raya will face the same treatment if someone better comes. No one is safely assured of being in the team unless they perform top top level.

So if Quentin comes I doubt we will see sibling brotherhood or rivalry.

  21. Devilgunner says:

its a bit funny that you happened to mention the Compton brothers Cicero……..here goes…..

25 May 1935: Dennis Compton signed professional forms with Arsenal
Compton scored on his League debut against Derby in September 1936.

  22. Cicero says:

Anyone watching the Cup Final will have seen precisely why we don’t want Rashford, he has been beaten on pace twice by Walker and once by Stones.

    United 2 – 0 City.39 mins.

  23. Devilgunner says:

Today we can see and acknowledge the fact that many teams in the EPL simply rolled over when facing City and when facing us they just tried to show they had balls

When City are attacked like they are today they are mere mortals.

  24. Devilgunner says:

I simply love it when a mid table team beats the the League winner in a final. 😜😜😜🤣🤣🤣

The magic of the FA cup

  25. Limey says:

I watched the cricket, funniest thing about the Cup final result is that Chelsea drop into the Europa conference, and Newcastle miss out on Europe.

  26. Devilgunner says:

Did you see how much Ten Hag jumped with delight after the win???

I would too….especially if I knew that from tomorrow I will still earn millions for doing fuck all.

  27. Nigel Tufnel says:

I’m not sure Quentin is at the level we need for midfield. We really need somebody ready to be taught by Arteta, with all the technical qualities already built in.. especially if we expect them to take over for Partey, in one of the best 11’s in the world. I know that limits our pool of candidates. I hope we have a concise list of players and are talking to them already.

  28. Aussie Geoff says:

As much as I don’t like united I am very happy that they beat city, that’s one less bit of silver ware for the pep

  29. Devilgunner says:

    Good morning everyone

In 2019/20, when Arteta was in his first season, Arsenal finished 8th and won the FA Cup
Same season, Man Utd finished 3rd and won nothing
Remember everyone talking about how Arsenal had a much better season? No, me neither

  30. rico says:

I still want ten Hag to stay Devil. 😂

Apparently, City players had been celebrating all week. They played like they had too..

    Morning to you and all.

  31. Aussie Geoff says:

City can’t use celebrating as an excuse, they new the FA cup was just a few days away. and if that is there excuse then it show a lot of disrespect for the FA cup and it’s opponents.

  32. allezkev says:

    Morning Gooners and Rico.

It’s difficult when you want both teams to lose but in the end I was glad that City lost, also we don’t have to play them in the Charity Shield either. Newcastle dropping out of europe hits their finances and ability to splash the cash. Chelsea are also impacted as the Conference is the poor relation.

I did notice that City made a guard of honour as United went up to get the cup, they did it at Wembley when we beat them last August. This seems deliberate by Pep, a psychological move to make his players more determined not to lose next time.

I think what Rodri was saying probably originated from team talks that Guardiola must have made post our draw at the Etihad. Smart psychology because he turned a poor result for City into a positive and a motivational tool…

Yes, I would sign Quintin, he can play in several different positions and would raise the general level of the squad. Signing Quintin doesn’t mean we can’t sign a replacement for Partey it means the squad has more players who Mikel will use.

I also wouldn’t waste anytime trying to do business with either Newcastle or Aston Villa, both clubs have an inferiority complex when it comes to Arsenal, from top to bottom. I wouldn’t sell them any players either if at all possible. City wont deal with us anymore and I suspect that Chelsea may adopt a similar stance. We need to look at other Premier clubs for prospective signings if we want oven-ready players…

  33. Devilgunner says:

    From Arsenal News today

Feyenoord’s young midfielder Quinten Timber has emerged as a reported target for Mikel Arteta, with reports suggesting the Gunners are leading the race for his signature.
This potential move could see Quinten line up alongside his twin brother, Jurrien, who is returned after his ACL injury on his debut.
Arsenal are hot on the trail of Feyenoord‘s young midfielder Quinten Timber, according to reports. The 22-year-old has emerged as a key target for Mikel Arteta as he looks to strengthen his midfield options for next season.Quinten has been a standout performer for Feyenoord, playing a crucial role in their Eredivisie title win last season. He’s continued that form into this campaign, contributing directly to 16 goals (seven goals, nine assists) in 38 appearances.
His ability to transition from defence to attack seamlessly has caught the eye of several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Newcastle United.
The potential signing of Quinten would be particularly exciting for Arsenal fans as it could see him line up alongside his twin brother, Jurrien Timber.
With potential departures like Smith-Rowe and Thomas Partey looming, Arteta reportedly sees Quinten as a valuable addition to strengthen and add depth to his midfield. While Quinten is a strong target, Arsenal are exploring other options including Martín Zubimendi, Amadou Onana, and Douglas Luiz.
Unlike his brother Jurrien, who is a defender, Quinten operates primarily in central midfield. His all-around play and positive impact on Feyenoord‘s success make him an attractive target for Arsenal.

    Morning Kev.

I was pleased to see City beaten. Amazing how ten Hag suddenly had all his injured players back for Wembley but hey, they deserved their victory.

I too would avoid Villa and Newcastle players. I think both are in a financial red zone so their players will be overly priced. Luiz could have forced a move to us a while ago but clearly, his agent used us to get his player a new contract.

I have faith in the club now to sign what we need and who.
