Josh Kroenke ready for Arsenal? At least he promises trophies….

Morning all.

Back in June of this year whilst the World Cup was taking place, Cesc Fabregas, who had been snapped up as a television pundit, posted a photograph of himself and David Dein on Instagram together with the caption:

“Great dinner with the first man to sign me professionally.  “It was never the same after you left.”

I think we’d all agree that the Spaniard wasnt far wrong and things really haven’t been the same since a serious rift at board level ended with Arsene Wenger’s key right hand man being sacked. Just what that rift was about is something I’d imagine only those involved in know the true extent of but it hurt The Arsenal we knew back then. For the want of a better expression, for twenty four years, Dein gave his service to Arsenal Football Club and the man responsible for bringing Arsene Wenger to the club. He got things done and it’s believed that as Wenger dithered in the transfer window, Dein gave him the shove he needed.

Arsene Wenger said at the time:

“It is a huge disappointment because we worked very closely together, David has contributed highly to the success of the club in the last 10 years and even before that as well. Red and white are the colours of his heart. “David Dein is needed in football because this guy has revolutionised this club [Arsenal] and also English football. He is top quality.”

After David Dein, we got Ivan Gazidis. There was another guy up for the job too but I can’t seem to find details of him on the internet. All I know is that he worked for Vodafone and was a huge Arsenal fan. I hoped at the time he’d be the successful candidate purely because he loved the club. Ivan Gazidis has been relatively quiet during his at the club and other than the usual comments at an AGM and discussing sponsorships, reaching out to overseas fans and why long haul pre season tours are good for the club etc, it wasn’t until last year he seemed to grow a pair. Publicly he announced that Arsenal were ready to change and eventually, that change became real. In came Raúl Sanllehí, Sven Mislintat and Huss Fahmy. Soon after, Arsene Wenger announced his Arsenal days were over and in the summer Unai Emery and his new coaching team were in.

The change Gazidis promised, was complete. This should be Ivan’s time. Time to show the club are ambitious, show that he wants big things, success and trophies. Arsene Wenger was the man holding him back but now he’s free. Free to take Arsenal forward in a way we fans have been craving for for few years.

Er, no, he’s decided to take a £1 million payrise offered to him by AC Milan for doing the same job.The big question is, pushed, jumping or simply no different to many who play the game and he’s just following the money?

From the outside, it now seems that when Ivan Gazidis announced the club were going to make changes, he was one of them. Whether he knew it or not at the time of speaking, well that’s anyone’s guess.

This move, which is 99% likely to happen according to an Arsenal ‘source’ will come as no surprise to the owner and board I’m sure and a replacement is almost certainly lined up already.

I think it’ll be Josh Kroenke and perhaps it was he who initiated all the changes, after all, we know he was heavily involved at the club earlier this year after he travelled over and stayed for a couple of months and perhaps Kroenke jnr wasn’t overly impressed with what he saw. It really doesn’t need Kojak does it?

When Kroenke Jnr was just 34 years old, he joined the Arsenal board and at the time said:

“It is an honour to join the board of Arsenal. This reaffirms our family’s long-term commitment to the Club.

“Arsenal is in a strong position on and off the pitch. We are enjoying a period of growth for Arsenal and the Premier League. We look forward to an exciting future that includes winning trophies, increasing our already impressive support around the globe and extending our commercial opportunities.

Perhaps it was Josh Kroenke who initiated all the changes earlier this year, after all, we know he was at the club earlier this year after travelling over over and staying for a couple of months. Maybe he wasn’t overly impressed with the way things were were being done and thought we should be doing better.. It doesn’t need Kojak to work it out really does it?

Daddy is soon to take full control of the club and with Josh as CEO (or whatever other fancy name he gets) will run the club their way. Whether that’ll be in a good way or not time will only tell but one thing is for sure. If it goes wrong, they’ll be no Arsene Wenger to hide behind and no Ivan Gazidis to blame either. No, it’ll be all on ‘Team KSE’ shoulders and they’ll know it. It’ll be in their best interest to run Arsenal the right way. As a competitive club which challenges the best in England and Europe.

Anything less and they’ll be in for a rough ride I’m sure and I wouldn’t want to be in their shoes if that day ever arrives. For ‘Team KSE’ and ourselves, I hope that day doesn’t come.

I could of course be barking up the wrong tree, but the idea of this post is to see what you guys think…

Don’t think you are far wrong , I said yesterday that Josh’s visit was the catalyst for the manouvering that’s taking place .I doubt that Ivan was fully pushed out just eased sideways and his power base reduced which is making his position untenable . A kind of constructive dismissal . If he goes I doubt that The Arsenal will miss him that much , one or two of his appointees might leave or be replaced but little else on the grand scheme of things.
Whoever replaces him will be judged on the pitch , that’s where our future lies and where the Kroenke’s will either gain popularity or not. Whatever you think about Stan he is not stupid , he has invested heavily in shares and that money is important to him . He does not have a record of splashing his personal wealth on his teams but if he runs the club in the right way now that our debts are reducing , there should be money available to improve Emery’s squad . Lets hope he does.

    Morning all.

So, the spawn og silent Stan would seem to be the ‘chosen one’. If this turns out to be true and Joshy has given up filling the shelves at his mum’s franchise, Woolmart, and that’s not pulling the profits at the moment! If he comes to us I wonder what he has on his cv that we can all admire and worship? I believe ha has done a bit with his dad,s sports clubs, one of which I think has been quite successful this year. A first I think, of silverware, stateside! Perhaps he’s learned his trade, at last! If this is the case, perhaps he can bring his ‘new model’ here and produce similar results for the Arsenal. Well we can hope, I suppose.
However, what if it’s not Josh who has been lined up, he was merely the cleaner? Job done he can stay in the states drinking bourbon and retiring, successfully to his dad’s Texas ranch(es)!
Might we ‘poach’ Danny Levy from the now impoverished filth? No, I don’t think so, although we are short of a Danny on the Board. What a mess Fizzman made of his dying wish! (Sorry if you find that remark in dubious taste, but…) well he sacked Dein after all!
The CEO position may be up for grabs. It could be anybody, although Josh surely has to be favourite. He’ll be cheap and he’s available, I think. Is he a football, sorry soccer man or just a business man. Will he brings a new dimension the Arsenal and it’s now irrelevant Board, one owner, one voice, one man operation! Not good that, no checks or balances.
I guess what will be will be. Let’s just hope we get a good ‘un and who ever he or she may be they are visionary, progressive and help to put Arsenal back at the top of the EPL tree and not where we are now, on the slide!

Warm, windy and cloudy here. Not the best!

    Morning all.
The future is absolutely unpredictable atm.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing as it adds an excitement that we’ve been missing for quite a while.

Morning all, that wasn’t me Rico…..honest. Identity theft!

Well okay then it was me.

Seriously, Gazidis will be a big loss to the club and English football in general. His wide knowledge of who’s who and his networking ability has kept Arsenal at the forefront of decision making in the game. To lose David Dean was bad enough, to lose a second CEO looks like carelessness.

Time to rewrite the post Rico 😀 The boy Josh hasn’t got the job…..yet. we have appointed a Managing Director to oversee the commercial activity and a Head of Football but not a CEO.

  6. Wavy says:

So, no Josh! Probably a good thing he’ll be better off riding the prairie rather than bothering the Arsenal machine! So, they appointed from within, this too is probably not a bad call. I would imagine Ivan the, and he has been, terrible has moved on because he was asked to ‘do’ something and relieving the old incumbent with his free and easy ways was just a step beyond Ivan’s comfort zone, plus he probably thought he would be next, so he’s left perhaps before he got pushed. Nothing wrong with that, you should never outstay your welcome!! Rings a bell or two, that statement. Anyhow, good luck to him and AC. At least he will be well away from our Brexit debacle, in fact I wonder if his move was in part prompted by our political uncertainties? Notwithstanding Italy is about to go bankrupt! Out of the frying pan into the fire!

Where all this leaves the Arsenal I suppose only time will tell. Let’s hope that now we are post Wenger the newish employees will earn their corn and we’ll find new on field success and head for the top of the table and not settle for sixth place mediocrity.

    Sunny no Way!

Evening all and thanks Rico for some good tree barking.

No idea to what it will all mean in the end, but I`m still adamant that we will not be big players on the world stage untill Kroenke spends/invests HIS money ………………..which we all know from history is going to be about £0………..so in my doomiest voice, we are going to be a CL fringe EL team for the conceivable future……………..cup team we are !…………………saying that I`d settle for the FA Cup every year……….I love it…………..best comp` ever, it hasn`t been known as …….”The Magic of The FA Cup” for nothing !
    🙂

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

Still no start date for when The Spuds play their first game at ?………………….I put ? because as far as I know they are struggling to get a stadium name sponsor, although with the NFL connection and the building delays due to unfit work etc`………..maybe we should call it …….The Cowboy Builders Stadium !
They may eventually be on to a good thing, but if they dont win something soon they will hopefully have a few years of midtablemanship due to the cost doubling to £1B and rising every day they are not in it !…………..years of CL helped us in the transition, will they get years of it as they may have to sell their top players to help with the costs like we did and we were spot on budget !………………..as I said………. theirs have doubled !………………………….couldn`t happen to nicer scum !……………………………..I cant stress how much I hate the bastards !

Not really sure why Arsenal fans hate Spurs so much.
The joy they constantly bring us is worthy of more affection, imo 🙂
