January Signings, Do You Want Any? Welbeck Doubt, Theo Fit………

Morning all.

Arsene Wenger has been speaking to the media. Three main points:

  • Danny Welbeck is doubtful for Southampton. (Bad news)
  • Theo Walcott is fit, however. (Good news)
  • Podolski to Inter Milan is “a joke.”

There you go, that’s it…….

The January Transfer Window is just two days away.

Fans are still divided over the future of Arsene Wenger.

No doubt there are many who like me think, perhaps hope that next month our ever present weaknesses in the squad are finally addressed and with it our performances step up a gear and we go on a great run through the second half of the season and then in the summer, the squad is again improved with quality.

Then of course there are fans who believe his days are done, he’s history and there really is no way back.  They may not want him to sign any more players, preferring that any money available is left where it is and let a new manager come in and build his own side…

I suppose the latter is all well and good if there is a guarantee that Arsene Wenger will be leaving in the summer, or Stan Kroenke plans to sack him but there isn’t one is there?

Me – well I hope the manager signs Morgan Schneiderlin or someone like him. And someone like Winston Reid from West Ham who despite his horror show against us, has been superb for West Ham this season.. Both are proved in the Premier League and would be able to play in the Champions League…

And even if Arsene Wenger does leave in the summer, which I doubt he will unless we have a disastrous run and slip further down the table, what manager wouldn’t want a player like Schneiderlin? Not many I bet……

What about you, signings or no signings next month?

That’s it for today, stay warm….

Morning rico, good post. No chance of AW going so it must be new signings. Be amazed if we splashed out 50 million on Carvani and ignored CB and DM. Be typical though 🙂

I would add that I don’t think a few players in January will fix everything. Our problem last season was the bottling, not the squad. Fix the bottle, and we fix the team. For me, it’s a simple equation, if Wenger can do that then he must stay, and if he can’t then we could bring in Beckenbauer, Baresi and Cruyff and it wouldn’t make a difference.

  3. Dick Swiveller says:

Incidentally, Cavani would fit in pretty well here. Whether we should spend 50m on an aging CF who is only an upgrade on Giroud in the finishing department is another question. Two years ago, I reckon it *might* have been worth it.

  4. rico says:

Dick, you have a point bt surely signing 2/3 players who have a similar attitude and work rate as Alexis and that bottling it would disappear..

Who knows, AW might even catch on….

  5. Dick Swiveller says:

I hope you’re right, but I can’t fault the individual mentalities of our players; there’s just something that happens whenever you put them together.

  6. Wavy says:

Bring back Davor Suker he and Cavani have a lot in common! 50m for the caveman, no chance. What a waste of good money! Just can’t see it. Have we got £50m sloshing around just now? I didn’t think we had.
Nic one Rico set us all off again, playing fantasy Arsenal players. It’s like playing Subbuteo all over again!
    Happy lunchtime to you all.

  7. Joaquim Moreira says:

    Cavani for what?
Reid is good for The League. not for internatinal competitions.
Schneiderlin ok, but it’s impossible in January.
    Sanchez is fit?

  8. allezkev says:

According to a fairly reliable ‘Injury Website’ all our injured players are available except Jack…

Yes, even Diaby, praise the Lord…

  9. allezkev says:

Reg Varney for £50 m, or £60/£70m depending on what Journo idiot you happen to be reading at the time…

If Wenger has £50/£70m to burn, he could a lot better than Reggie boy…

What about Sanchez’s Chilian mate, the midfielder, now I’d go for him.

  10. allezkev says:

Not sure what to think about the reports that Sanogo could be joining Bordeaux on loan….
Yes, he needs games, but surely if he wants to be a success in England, then he should join an English club?!

  11. Wavy says:

Maybe it’s Wenger’s way of off loading his latest buy one get one free acquisition. Sanogo was always going to be a no go! So he’s being shipped back to France, and not before time. He simply isn’t good enough, imo! And I guess Poldi won’t be going after all, unless of course Arsene the all seeing, wants to weaken the front line too. He’ll have managed to not replace players in three crucial areas, back, middle and front! Way to go!
    Alternatively……………….new players in………???

  12. rico says:

Nom Nom Kev – I have cheese coming out of my eyeballs…. 😉

Agree re Sanogo. No point whatsoever in him going to France, unless he’s staying there…..

  13. allezkev says:

I’ll be really sorry to see Podolski leave (if he does) and can only think that it would be to get his wages off of the books…

Good to see Walcott back in contention and it seems that Gnabry is almost ready to return…

  14. Nashua Gunner says:

Good Afternoon Rico and All. Good Post.

Why Schneider (spelling ) allowed himself to be redcarded? Especially against Chelsea? Why didn’t he wait until we meet them and get himself sent off and then give us the advantage. Or he could have done ‘Frabaglass’ with his back heel in the 90+ minutes.

That would show how much he really wants to join Arsenal.

  15. Marinello says:

Hi Rico, Kevin, Wavy et all,
I really cannot see Arsene going until the end of his present contract. The board, led by Stan are happy as long as we qualify for Europe. And I still believe that we will do that, even with the less than water tight defending that occurs in most the majority of games…
I still would like to see a proper spine in the team starting with a keeper to challenge Szesny, a centre half and a defensive midfielder. As for the bottle, that has to come from within the players and cannot be coached or taught.
    Good post Rico.
Hope everyone has had a good Christmas.
Here’s to a peaceful and healthy new year to all you Gooners.

  16. rico says:

    Hi Marinello, thanks….

Hope you had a good Christmas too.

DM and CH next month and I’ll be pretty happy, as long as they are very good…

If AW goes, a new manager can soon sell any players he doesn’t want, but if AW is staying, I hope he strengthens the side….

  17. allezkev says:

Hey Marinello, good to hear from you…

Hope you had a great Christmas…

As for New Year, I am gonna enjoy it mate, as always…
I trust you will as well…

  18. allezkev says:

    Double Standards….

Wenger criticises a referee and gets a fine.

Mourinho criticises a referee and gets an apology…

    Explain???

  19. allezkev says:

Good heavens, it’s bleedin’ parky this morning…

    Morning All…
A very cold and frosty day in old London Town.
The sky is clear, so it should be a nice day later on…
Anyway, that concludes the weather report from the Victoria Stn taxi rank… 😉

    Morning Madam Rico…

  20. allezkev says:

That old January Transfer Window is just about to swing open…

So only about 30 more days before Wenger signs someone…

  21. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
For the first time in my life, I’ve venture into Susney to see the fireworks display live.
    Ho bloody hum!!!!!

  22. rico says:

    Morning Kev and all..

Weather report from Le Coup in Berkshire. All water bowls frozen, ground solid as a rock and the skies are grey…… Happy Days….

  23. allezkev says:

That would be good Rico, but with almost a totally fit squad, I’m not sure myself…

A leopard and spots etc. 🙁

  24. allezkev says:

Carvalho, Sissoko, Kevin Mendez, Mario Suarez, Cavani, Reus, Uncle Tom Cobbley, yawn…

    I’m bored already…
