Jack Wilshere hits the headlines again.. Milner & Mexican Number One to Arsenal in the summer?

Morning all.

Bit of gossip. The Star report that sources in Spain believe Arsene Wenger is ready to ditch Wojciech Szczesny and offer Guillermo Ochoa an escape route from his Malaga nightmare. Having moved to Spain last summer, he’s yet to make it off the bench…. For some strange reason, I can’t see their being an ounce of truth in that story..

The ever reliable (not) Express report that James Milner is seriously considering leaving City in the summer for free and moving to either us or the Dippers.

The better side of Jack…..

Having been in the headlines for a few wrong reasons, seeing this latest story is refreshing. It’s easy to complain about something which one doesn’t like and sometimes, the good goes by the wayside.

Arsenal fan Archie Hill, who suffers from Duchenne muscular dystrophy is totally in awe of our English midfielder and all his dreams came true just recently when Wilshere paid him a visit. As young Archie arrived home from school, Jack was waiting on his doorstep.

Nine-year-old Archie Hill, was apparently spotted by the Wilshere during a television interview the Hill family did last month and he was also left impressed after the youngster had written to Prime Minister David Cameron asking for some help in his fight against the debilitating illness.

Jack had a kick about in Archie’s back garden together with his brother Leyton before spending time playing PlayStation with the pair. And of course posing for a few photographs…..

The right reasons....
The right reasons….

Archie’s mum, Louisa was also thrilled:

We were absolutely staggered when the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign called us to say Jack had been in touch about meeting Archie. We have had to keep the secret for weeks!

Meeting Jack was absolutely amazing. He spent hours with the boys, in the garden, on the computer and chatting away.

It is every child’s dream come true to come home from school one day and see their hero standing in the hallway. Archie kept thinking it was a dream and the smile on his face is something that we will always treasure.

Wilshere added:

It’s been fantastic meeting Archie and Leyton. My mum told me about Archie’s interview and I was really impressed by how grown up he was to go on television and to write to the Prime Minister like that. They are really great boys.

Robert Meadowcroft, Chief Executive of the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign, said:

We are absolutely delighted that Jack got in touch and asked to meet Archie to tell him just how impressed he was. We cannot thank Jack enough for his support.

As said earlier, it’s always easy to get on the back of players when they do something stupid so it’s nice to see Jack Wilshere doing something good. He’s certainly brightened the life of one young Arsenal fan, if not more…..

This morning Arsene Wenger confirmed that Jack is back in training and desperate to start and Gabriel is close to making his debut too and the manager is right behind his new man:

He’s very close. He is a player with ability. He likes to defend. He is good in the air, very strong.

But it is better I don’t talk too much and let him show how good he is.

I suspect we’ll see him on Sunday but we won’t be seeing Aaron Ramsey as he’s out for a while and Alexis Sanchez is a doubt for Sunday….

That’s it for Friday, have a good day all…..

Shame, i don’t wish that on anyone after seeing what Joost van der Westhuizen is going through.
Good on Jack, let’s hope that puts him in Wenger and the ref’s good books.

  3. rico says:

Brad, Wengers yes, but ca’t see the ref’s ever doing Jack any favours…

Good on ya for reporting some good off the field stuff Rico. I dont think any of the boys are bad lads, even if they dont always make the perfect decisions. And this gives a little balance to things.

  6. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning WaGs and HoBs.

Good on Jack. As Rico said…..hopefully this is a pointer of Jack’s maturity and reflects on how he performs on the pitch.

Seems that we are going to get our wish….Gabriel will play against Boro. I have a feeling it will be Bellerin, Chambers, Gabriel, Gibbs defensive unit. With Flamini in front of them.

  7. rico says:

Ok, thanks Bt – best I get on with my chores a bit quicker… 😉

Devil, I sure hope Flamini doesn’t start, Boro will bomb straight through our midfield if he does…

  8. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rico, if my calculations on time difference is right, i think it’s a 3 pm KO..

    Afternoon all.
Thanks for putting the link up Bt perhapes others can now watch what you and I saw against River plate.
The thing that really gets me is the Plate Captain finished the game with just a yellow. On the other hand Chriss Willock the victim of for most of his terrible tackles was given a red card after the game finished for defending himself when he was punched and kicked.
Because of that red Chriss cannot play in todays game andf seeing the stick that Hinds and Donovon received will they be fit.
I think that it is a big ask to see them put in a good performance today.
    I hope I am wrong.

  12. Bt62 Gooner says:

Rick, i never knew that Chris was red carded, never saw the brawl, he’ll will be a big miss.
The captain was a nasty piece of work, Rick…

AC 2 nil down at half time.

  13. allezkev says:

Rico, that made a nice change, reading something positive about Jack Wilshere.
It’s not the first time that Jack had done something of this nature.

It’s very easy to be cynical, as I often am, when it comes to footballers and their antics.
But credit where credit is due, he didn’t have to do this, and plenty of footballers, who act poorly, don’t do anything afterwards to repair their sullied reputations, so well done Jack…

  14. allezkev says:

To be honest, the ‘worst’ thing Jack has done, has been allowing himself to be photographed by ‘friends’, doing something that he obviously shouldn’t have done…

Maybe if he beat up his girlfriend or got himself caught ‘dogging’, he might yet get himself a pundits job on TalkRubbish…

  15. rico says:

    Afternoon all..

Just why I thought it was worth writing about Kev, nice to read about a footballer doing something good. Shame we don’t see more….

  16. Bt62 Gooner says:

Joe, excellent feed, mate, pity about the result..

Final on Sunday should be a good one, for the neutral..

  17. Bt62 Gooner says:

Joe, Rick must take credit for pointing me in the right direction, regarding the link.
    Thanks again Rick.

  18. Rick says:

Must say I am not too disapointed about todays result. I think the River Plate game took a lot out of some of our players and with HindsSheaf andDa Graca below par we really missed Chris Willock. At the same time I think that along with Willock Hinds Mavididi Keto and especially Donovon have had very good
    tournements.
One final point theorganiser’s are heaping praise on our players and the club for the way they have conducted themeselves during the tournement.
    Well done to all concerned.

A belated good evening, Rico, another informative Post!

I am keeping everything crossed, including my eyes, that we do not sign Milner.

He is a good professional in his way but not the sort of player we want or need, in my opinion. He would play in the Ox’s position, or maybe Ramsey’s or Wilshere’s — oh hang on, they are all competing for the same position – well maybe the more the merrier! 🙂

  20. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
    I’d take Milner.
He does his job with no fuss, no fanfare and sometimes that’s exactly what’s needed.
    Mornin all.
Oh, and Rico, I’m older than him, so that was not a nice call 🙂

  21. Rick says:

    Evening Rico and the House.
Very good post Rico good to see J/W getting some praise
This is not the first time he has done something like this its not so long ago that he befrended a young lad and his family when he heared the lad had terminal cancer. Even after the lad died Jack has kept in touch with the family
there is some good in the lad.

Denver Post ( The Terrace ) interesting little article,
As the Rapids get closer to the start of the 2015 season, they are still hopeful of bringing in a player or two on loan from Arsenal, the English Premier League side also owned by Kroenke Sports & Entertainment.

“We’ve been talking with Arsenal quite a bit,” said Paul Bravo, Rapids’ vice president of soccer operations and technical director. “There’s a few players that we’ve been monitoring. One that’s currently in an injury situation that we were hoping to bring over. There’s another one that we’re considering at this point, but nothing concrete. But we have been in communication with them in hopes that we can maybe secure one or two players.”

Bravo did not reveal which players the Rapids were eyeing.

Last season, Bravo and Rapids president Tim Hinchey traveled to London to meet with Ivan Gazidis, chief executive of Arsenal, to discuss how the clubs could collaborate in a more meaningful way. The possibility of player loans and shared scouting resources were discussed.
