Iwobi to battle with FA. Mustafi admits the defence are far too laid back…

Morning all.

Don’t fall into the media pot which has one of the biggest wooden spoons stirring it. Alexis is what/who he is, just as we all are. Didn’t you all hate being subbed regardless of which sport you were playing? I know I did. Alexis is no different, other than he’s a professional who has cameras pointed at him each and every game, just so some journalist can write another negative story about Arsenal.

Instead of keeping an eye on his body language/behaviour when he’s subbed, watch him on the pitch because that’s when it matters most. He hasn’t refused to play or train, he just wants to play every minute of what is a short career.

Unhappy players don’t run their legs off for every minute they are on the pitch, unhappy players don’t very little at all and I’m sure if I could be bothered, I could Google that very subject and find plenty of examples. Both Alexis and Ozil are our players, at least until the summer so let’s just hope they both help this team climb the table to become Premier League Champions.

The big surprise yesterday was Man City getting thumped 4-0 by Everton which is good news for us as it keeps Peps side a few points back from us. Utd and Liverpool drawing kind of did us a favour too and all we need now is for Chelsea and Totts to drop a few points here and there although neither club are showing signs of doing that.

Meanwhile, all we need to do is keep on winning. Having now watched the extended highlights of our game on Saturday and it was far from being the best performance we’ve seen from this team and I feel like I’ve been writing that line for a while now, but at least we won and comprehensively by the time the final whistle blew.

Alex Iwobi proved that when you shoot, anything can happen. Giroud missed an easy chance before scoring his goal and Alexis fired home the last one of the game with a super volley.

“I’m claiming the first one! It’s on target so I’m going to claim that one,” Iwobi said. “Second one I can let slide, but the first one is definitely my goal.

“It was quite big [the deflection] I’m not saying, but they all go in, they all count. But that one at least, I’m praying it’s my goal.”

Lukasz Fabianski has had his say on Alexis and Arsenal:

“They have quality all over so it is not only about one player. As a team they make Sanchez look good.”

That’s one to think about…

Petr Cech reckons Chelsea might stutter if the sides behind them keep on winning so the three points on Saturday were important regardless of how we got them.

Another bonus from the Swansea fixture is that finally, we kept a clean sheet. Mustafi was pleased:

It’s a long time now that we didn’t have a clean sheet, so I’m really happy, I’m really happy about that.”

“It’s always as well difficult even when you take the lead to try and stay switched on. Sometimes you take the lead and you think ‘Okay, we scored the first one now we lay back’ – you get punished.

“That’s what we had to make sure of when we came back out from half-time, that we don’t relax, we just keep going and keep the ball moving and play our game. I think that’s what we did brilliantly.”

Thank goodness both he and Koscielny are fit again and playing alongside each other as their pairing does seem to make a difference.

Next up is Burnley at home on Sunday afternoon and they can’t afford to be laid back in that match either. In fact I can’t believe they’ve been laid back before now, can you Arsene?

Have a good Monday guys, that’s the best I can muster up for today…

    Good morning…..Rico

    Nice post….

Wonder if it is me only but i sense that Alexis maybe was pissed off by Ramsey staying in the pitch and him leaving.

Honestly does not bring anything this Ramsey to that midfield.Anyway we are still disjointed by including this fella or not.
    Cheers

Morning all, well now there are 2 special ones in manchester 🙂

A complete contrast to last season with realistically still 6 clubs left in the race.I maybe proved wrong but you can have as much money as in City,Chelsea and United there are no guarantees. We still need to improve our percentage over the whole 90 minutes and crucially have to get more points than in the past against the other top 6 which could be a deciding factor. Unfortunately our injury situation doesn’t seem to decrease, just different players sometimes, that could be a hindrance. A word about our Away support. To me they seem more vocal than ever and I wish that translated itself on to the pitch sometimes. The players owe it to our attending fans to turn up a bit more often than they do.Agree or not ?

    I was being polite Rico.

Mertesacker far too slow, Debuchy injured and useless, Gibbs, like him a lot but always injured,Monreal has peaked but still adequate, The ox is a failure, Walcott well Walcott don’t get me going.Santi looks like he is unfortunately finished.Welbeck hopefully will not suffer another set back.Giroud has a place in the squad. iwobi improves but has a powder puff shot, Ozil needs to put it in every game, bellerin is excellent,Mustafi with Kos is our only good pairing.Cech has peaked but still very good.Ramsey has been a real disappointment for one reason or another this season,Perez needs more game,Elnery looks good but is away for a good few weeks time but we have got Sanchez at least until May and then three double barrelled named kids on the bench.Maybe a bit harsh but if AW doesn’t know his best team how do we.

    @Kelsey
For one reason or another Ramsey has not performed this season….you said.

If i may…. bar one season this chap what have you seen you guys to say so ?

As much as i want to support him ….there is none in him…nothing ….nothing except runnning endlessly.
    Is he dribbler…..emphatic no
    Has he got pace….big no
Positional sense ala Delle Alli….absolutely not.

In that midfield for me this are essential ingredients .
Ramsey same as Feo are Wenger pets.Undropables.

    You’re in a positive mood this morning Kelsey… 😉

Morning Adam, perhaps he’s just fed up with Hughes style of football. He’s clearly unhappy otherwise he wouldn’t have asked for a move…

  6. Adam says:

Rico. He’s clearly a talented footballer who I believe Wenger was interested in a while ago but injuries have blighted his career and we really don’t need another one of those surely.
Hughes is looking more and more of a dinosaur these days, like Pulis and Allardyce.

    Evening to anyone online.
U23s are about to kickoff away to Soton. Very strong team
Keto Johnson Bielick Sheaf Bramial Niles Jeff Akpom Mavididi C Willock Nelson.

Nketiah and Zelalem on the bench.

  8. allezkev says:

Great news Rick, Southampton always have strong academy teams…

Good to see Bramhall play most of the game.
Nketiah scores again, that boy is mustard…

I see that Charlie Gilmour played for the U18’s after a long lay off…

  9. Rick says:

    Kev,
Bramall a bit uncertain at the start improved as the game went on and must be pleased
    with a solid performance
I am hoping that they will let this team stay together for the est of the season there is some outstanding talent there.

Both Gilmour and Fortune have been missing since the start of the season so its really good to see them back( as well as Akpom)
I gather that Bellerin Gibbs Coq and Giroud will be in the sqaud against Burnley all good news
    Night Kev.

  10. allezkev says:

    That is good news Rick…

I gotta mention referee Jones from last weekend, who usually is less than effective, but who made a top decision, to not award Swansea a penalty when Ki dived in the box…

Most referees would have taken the easy way out and awarded the pen, but Jones the whistle, did well on this occasion…

Also Rick, credit to our medical staff, who have done a great job this season in keeping our players’ fit and on quite a few occasions bringing them back from injury a lot earlier than expected – heaven be praised….

  11. ScottfromOz says:

Rick, the updates on the youth players are more challenging appreciated as we overseas fans, or as Rico calls us, TOURISTS, never hear anything at all about them, so thanks for the info.
Kev, when I first saw the dive, I thought penalty, straight up.
Another angle showed it was pure brilliance from the ref to call that out.
I don’t blame them for not picking up the cheats as it’s bloody hard to be sure as they’re so good at it,
and it’s a big call to label someone a cheat, but he nailed it.
    Fantastic stuff.
    Rico, BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
    You know I’m kidding 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂 🙂
