Morning all.
As usual, there is no concrete transfer news to write about.
The Daily Mirror suggest that Ivan Gazidis was doing all he can last night to thrash out a deal for German wonderkid Julian Draxler. Schalke want £60 million for the £19 year old. We are willing to go to £40m.
£40 million is an awful lot of money for a youngster, £60 million is simply ridiculous.
The same paper believes we have been offered Kaka by Real Madrid – the 31 year old is desperate to get regular playing time but I’m sure he’d have to think about dropping his wage demands if he wants that playing time to be with us.
The Daily Mail report that we are in talks to sign Salomon Kalou from Lille. Now this one had better be garbage be no way should we be entertaining the ex Chelsea player. A move like this smacks of desperation.
Despite there only being three days left of the summer transfer window, Arsene Wenger is adamant about two things.
1) He won’t panic buy.
2) He’s very confident that by 11pm on Monday, he will have made a few signings.
Phew, that’s a relief isn’t it but before anyone gets too excited, this is the same man who has said many times before that he would sign players but all too often we ended up with no-one.
I really hope it doesn’t come down to the final hour again on Monday as no matter what he says, those signings, if they are not recognised quality players will again seen to be nothing other than a panic purchase. Just like Kalou would be.
As said, Arsene Wenger is very very confident that he will make several signings before the window closes, when asked if he is still in the hunt to sign players, he said:
Yes, (When?) I don’t know. I am confident. We will not panic buy, that is for sure. It’s not my strength to panic.
You need good players in every position, and especially you need an attitude and way to play the game. The players here know the way we want to play and that is important.
If we can add players who can integrate with that style of play we will do it. We work very hard on that, if we cannot we will not do anything stupid just for the sake of saying that we have done something.
We do what makes sense or not, that is simple.
Sorry Arsene, what makes sense is having the new signings in before the season starts. Getting them in early to train and get used to the coaching methods and their new team-mates. We may not have lost to Villa had that been the case.
We would certainly be a lot stronger going into the first NLD of this season had that happened.
If it goes wrong tomorrow, you reap what you sow Arsene Wenger, you reap what you sow!
Have a good day all, I’m out for most of it….
Wenger says it’s not his strength to panic…. oh really what did he do after we got annihilated up at the Mancs then when they embarrassed us 8-2….
If he had done his job properly and brought in players by now then a panic would not even be on the agenda would it.
Exactly Wath, the man has lost the plot.
What is most worrying is I think he actually believes that the crap he spouts is the right way forward..
Sorry, but surely his reign is nearing the end….
Only something special can stop this summer looking like anything but a complete disaster. And it’s Wengers arrogance and stubbornness that’s done it.
wenger was good for a long time but he should step aside after this season. we may not finish 4th and then it’ll take us 2 years to get back to CL play.
Morning all,
A good read. HH should be proud of itself… this summer we have revealed more exclusives than goal and Metro… 😛
Draxler potentially coming this way mentioned here before anywhere else. I hope we get him. 19 and over 100 appearances in the Bundesliga; 6 caps for Germany too.
Julian and Reus are keeping out Poldi at the moment.
WATH, the spuddies have outspent us every single season over the last 10 to 13 years, I am not worried at all.
Until Jim White screams it is over, I am sure we will get some panic buys in at least.
Its amazing how the spuddies spent 28 million on a 28 y.o but is deemed a good business but Flamini is deemed a panic buy.
£30M for Fernandinho who has less caps than Santos and he is 29 y.o… pfff
Same old Arsene same old excuses . It’s only the injury situation, something he always gambles on not occurring , that is forcing him into another late trolley dash . I believe that he needed more top players anyway ,even before the current injury crisis, now it will just be the cast-offs that proper big club managers see as being surplus to their requirements.
This will not stop Arsene though from talking them up and claiming that these were always on his radar. That is assuming that he actually does manage to spend some of the multi-millions on buying them.
I am a firm believer in, “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it” and I also believe “if it is broke you must fix it.” AW’s philosophy of building a relatively cheaply bought super team hasn’t worked because the best players leave. Unfortunately he’s going to have to miss out on 4th and no trophy for there to be changes, possibly. Big test tomorrow…c’mon you Gunners….
Ts, don’t think anyone is saying it’s good business that they have spent that much on older players BUT it’s good business that they have actually taken their thumb out their arses seen they needed to strengthen and have gone out and done it… they have shown ambition and intent and have realised losing their star player needed to be balanced to keep the fans onside and they have done that……. meanwhile back at the ranch we do fuck all…! It’s not about the players or the cash it’s about actions and showing your a big club and you do have ambition and sadly we’re lacking pathetically on both counts in my book…!
wenger’s a VERY good manager; he should stick to managing and if he could promise *only* to manage, it would be good to have him around.
for transfers, we need to sack everyone who’s on that team and start over. i believe them when they say they’re trying hard, but a combination of lack of skill, and wenger’s methods are screwing
up the chances.
only if wenger promises to stay out of the transfer details should he be allowed to stay.
Arsenal > Arsene.
Sunday is huge, no doubt. Both sides now giving the lip they are best. Wenger hoping the quality added to Spuds will mess up their balance?? What balance? It also seem plausible Spuds have a real hand in controlling Wengers transfer plans. We are clearly in for Madrid players and with Spuds delaying the release of Bale it appears we are stuck between a brick and a hard place. If we loose Sunday and this spuds control becomes reality it might just fire a mutiny never before seen at our club. Wenger has been in panic mode in the market for weeks, he just doesn’t know it.
I’ve really supported Wenger over the years. I’m also uncomfortable about the high transfer fees. But surely reverting to Kaka, Bendtner and Kalou IS desperation. Is this what Arsenal’s investment in the stadium was for, to buy washed up players? Why couldn’t we buy Higuain, Capoue, Soldado, etc.? Unfortunately, we are back in the cycle of winning nothing, and losing our best young players. Be sure that Bayern and Barca will be knocking on the door for Ramsey and Wilshere next summer. Phew…I’m exhausted, thanks to my beloved Arsenal.
No doubt it is pathetic. WATH I totally agree.
I always said from day one it was a waste of effort to go for the likes of Suarez and Wooney. I would have preferred Benteke or Negredo.
Unfortunately, we went to clubs who had made money already by selling big to our rivals. Leverkussen did not need our money for Bender because we were a week or 2 late in placing our bid.
The Hig move was useless from day 1 in my view. We should have gone for Di Maria as I said in May. The whole strategy is flawed; but was that because our manager is old and outdated or is it because we have a CEO who is more interested in making money first than strengthening the squad?
The Times reporting today Arsenal are close to finalising a £14m deal for Cabaye. Let’s see if he’s in squad today pic.twitter.com/cLvOqzwa9o
So you boys know more than wenger- with his budget over the last few years, you think you could have done better- cos you are the best managers- clubs are falling over themselves to pay you millions?
Let’s get one thing straight- no matter which club you are- chelsea, manU and city will beat you on transfers- and budget is a massive issue.
Higuain- deal almost done- last minute it was scuppered by real wanting 34M instead of 23M- of course you guys believe he is worth that much- well I don’t and neither does arsene.
Tell you what, mortgage your houses and give the money to arsenal- perhaps then we could buy more than the sheiks or russians. Or protest against kronke. You have no idea what a time without mr wenger will bring to the club- certainly no top 4- cos that is all wengers doing under the circumstances.
tsgh – just don’t know anymore. We seem to be changing targets like underwear mate
Liverpool’s Coutinho saying he had never heard of Moyes before… priceless
Oz- 😀 I was going to say I don’t change mine that often. Morning buddy.
The issue in my view is that we do not have a final point of call on transfers…
Dick and Fox both deal with the legal side of contracts. Should they be actually negotiating too? I am no expert but to me that is very flawed.
Even when we had DD he was never in charge of trashing out details of clauses.
At the moment Law does his bit, IG does his and then AW does his… where is the pyramid structure in all this.
Too many ‘chiefs’ comes to mind.
Every fiber of Arsenes being is against spending big Money you can hear it when he talks. He is firstly telling everyone that we will be signing players and in the NeXT sentence he almost retracts that statement. He knows he have to sign players but would rather not but his head is on the block so he have too.Very fascinating watching a manager forced to do something he loathes.
Top players will never sign for this club as long as Wenger is at the helm. They’re not stupid knowing very well this man wins us nowt nowadays and will continue to do so, actually he’s so bad one would think he is being paid to bring Arsenal down to it’s knees.
Mertesacker , Benayoun, Santos , Park and Arteta. Our five imports in 2011, 2 worked , 2 didn’t and the other sort of .
Tottenham have spent , wisely or not remains to be seen. However they have instilled an attitude of progression to the club whilst we have propagated stagnation. On paper I think our first 15 or so stands up to comparison ,it’s after that we become fragile but already we have a physio room filling up nicely and the ones that are playing are carrying knocks. Don’t be surprised to see those little ankle injuries get tested early on because our dear neighbours are well aware of the strength of our bench. We must try for a day to put the management / boardroom shennanigans to one side, this is Spurs that we are playing, too important to be distracted. We have a seriously impaired ship at the moment a bad result on Sunday could see us sink.Lets get behind those who are playing and make sure that it does not happen.
Who knows at 4.05 pm the Bale deal may go through and as we go home some news might just filter out of Madrid, watching the director’s box on Sunday might be more riveting than the pitch.
AW lol He’s panicing like mad coz the fans will give him death, ligue 1 in france again if he like that ligue so much why doesnt he piss of and manage out there and get KLOPP in….lets see what crap he brings in before the window shuts
Morning all, Ts, whats up mate? Did u hear rico ask AW about transfer targets and AW replied, “i could show u my phone”, and rico said “please do”. lol. Lets be happy people, lets hope for the best, because even if we don’t buy any players we will still b supporting the arsenal.
To add to my last mail when Rico comes out with “surely Wengers reign must be coming to an end” that’s good enough for me because this guy talks a lot of sense and has a very good following from the blogs I’ve read in the past.
T’s I am actually sick and tired listening to all the bullshit and the lies mate I’m at the point where I can’t even be arsed pointing a finger at who is to blame I have my opinion on that obviously but bottom line is we as a club are stagnating we have not shown any ambition what so ever to the fans to the players or to players we would like to buy… what kind of mind set does that give out…?
It’s shambolic and pathetic and fr all the hot air about big club and ambition and forward it’s all nothing but utter bollox.
Our biggest problem is making a missing in action owner accountable for fucking up our club.. He is never there to get fan abuse and fan feelings so how do we make sure he knows we want him out…! It need to be public and personal and it needs to make the news….! Only then would a yank 4000 miles away maybe get upset that he is hated and not wanted… The yanks don’t do bad publicity for me it’s the only way to get rid of him.
Sabrerat…. Maybe you should go check our accounts properly….! There has been plenty funds to spend at least for the last two years the manager has not spent the funds and no one here is preaching spending what we have not got BUT we have in excess of a 100million to spend… if you prefer to see that in the bank than running around on the pitch then thats of course your opinion I’d rather see those funds invested in players and for all the excuses from wenger it’s plain neglect not to be spending.
Even, I don’t listen to AW’s pressers any more. He sounds like Bill Clinton in 1996 and Blair in 2003. Paranoia comes to mind..
Every answer he gives is given in anticipation or to prevent the next question from tripping him up…
His problem is he likes to listen to his own voice and because people like Pellegrini, Conte, Lowe and the likes will listen to him like a preacher he thinks fans are interested in anything bar straight answers.
Silence at this moment is better because he sounds drank at this current moment with his parables and analogies which actually cheeses off fans.
Sab take your head out of your arse….bell!
Morning Dna
Why do pricks still blow smoke up Arsene’s arse? Fucking unreal….
Ts, I get the impression wenger thinks that the fans are an irritation in all this…. He seems to think they don’t matter and can be spoon fed drivel because he knows far more than them… He also seems to think fan power doesn’t matter or count…! I think he needs to be very very careful. Fans are the only true power at any club…! He may find that out sooner rather than later.
WATH are the chaps meeting up for the game?
what a sad state of affairs – we have a shed loads of money, due in no small part to selling of our finest, so they shouldn’t be taking credit for a lot of asset stripping thats been going on for years and now due to their /stuff the progress, we’ll take the money/ approach, we are finding it very hard to attract any one of these 50 calls a day offers Wenger gets.
To me wenger is not ready to spend a penny.
Julian is CL cup tied. Not worth spending so much on.
wow Rico… talk about telling it like it is – Look if it takes a year of mid table nothing to get him out, I am all for it – if he walks the American will shit himself and AU has his chance – bring it on i say
The Emirates only had 59,000 for the Fenerbahce game…..yeah righto! More like 40,000 and that figure will be a regular number unless dear old Arsene sorts this mess out.
history is clear, what ever Wenger spends he’ll waste at least half of it if not more. After all his stupid ‘world class’ remarks concerning his own buys, who the hell would take anything he says seriously any more.
Fitness class went well Rico? It’s enough to drive you to cava this shambolic football club?!?! 😉
its the only answer we have Lee – the players were clearly told lies to as well throughout the summer, so many of them went public with statements of class signings coming soon. That was no coincidence.
Oz, I think he’s lost the plot and has health issues….
Well, don’t hold back now, rico! Tell us how you really feel. 😛
Hello, all. This is sooo depressing.
Sab, if you have been on here before you may know I defend AW on most issues but this window there is no excuse mate.
All he or the club hierarchy had to do was formulate a plan with a backup plan.
They went into the window assuming we have money than most people and that Spain is/was broke and Leverkussen and SC04 need cash… its the boards arrogance that has gotten us in this predicament imho..
The issue know is that there are no players and because of Monaco and RM’s activities this summer our plan was like a sieve…
Should the club had bought marquees before the squad fillers or vice-versa?
I think in hindsight they should have bought the ‘fillers’ first as the club knew deep down that even with £100M in the account we still had a budget to comply with and we could not afford to be held in ransom.
Would Liverpool had accept £35M if bail had been sold for £40M? Yes they would have but when Perez starts going with £80M bids the market has no barometer anymore.
IG did not help with his comments either.
In my view, every EPL club can afford to pay a player like Wooney taken in isolation his salary but can they afford to keep the other squad members equally happy?… that is the question.Only a few can and I am afraiud IG was wrong to say we can pay Wooney £250k a week knowing we won’t do that as a club based on PHW’s comments and Chips memo…
Oz, I disagree we can’t attract any stars. We can attract any star in my view, however we are not attracting players because they are not offered much incentive.
Why with Shneider go to gala? Or why did players join Chelsea or Man city when they found their worth? They were made offers they can’t refuse.
Ozil and Di Maria has said more often than not that they dream of working with AW, but is that on its own enough? I think not.
Ozil takes home 70k allegedly, how much do we have to give him to break even to join us?
i agree tsgh – this window has highlighted to world the inadequacies that is now the Arsenal Football Club – The muskateers will protect each others asses (and paychecks) as long as they can but there is nowhere to hide now
Morning Lee, Yep they are indeed…!
The person posting as rico needs to change their name… The Lady of the House is Rico so you need to change your profile name to come out of moderation…!
this yr will be the worst year for Arsene wenger and Arsenal they can.nt even make top 7
I have seen Ozil and Maria on record as declaring they have no interest in leaving Real, so how keen are they again mate?
Morning AGAG….
Ts, players are also full of shit mate you know that, what they say and what they do is two very different things… It’s all about the money not who they want to play for and why would they join us when we don’t show we want to compete to win trophies..? top players want to try to win things.. we try to win 4th..!
Piers Morgan @piersmorgan 1m
I’m told, very reliably, that Lamela wanted to go to Arsenal, not Spurs, but Wenger rejected him last week. #Afc
I wonder if any truth in this one…!
Their report states: “Atletico Madrid squeezes the last hours of the transfer market. The club has completed the incorporation of Josuha Guilavogui , French midfielder Saint-Etienne, for about 10 million euros.”
if true WATH that would make me livid!:(
top players want to try to win things.. we try to win 4th..! – in a nut shell mate, in a nut shell
Never fear Gooners, Kalou to the rescue…
Andrew, Ts said weeks ago if we wanted Lamela you do the deal when we sell them Gervinho….!
Oh wel yippee means we buying someone even better than Lamela if we turned him down… Must be Kalou…!
Oz- when Ozil was about to leave Bremen he made those comments on TV after the u-21 tournament.
Di Maria also made similar comments when we agreed a deal with Benfica and never followed through it it.
Man U can’t buy anyone but I doubt they can’t attract anyone.
As I said we are not making them offers they can refuse.
Even if we pay Ozil £120k a week he will be making a lose on his current salary. So there is no incentive in my view for any top player to join us.
I do not think we necesarily need very marquee signings but a more balanced squad btw…
As an example, Yaya joined $hitty because he was on 60k at Barca and got offered £220k a week. That is an offer even a trophy hunter can’t refuse.
De Rossi is at Roma and wins nought but he is on a very good salary so he stays.
Buffon stayed with the Old Lady in Serie B becaus of his salary… it is one or the other imho…
Currently AFC are like a westerner who goes on holiday in Marakesh or Mumbai but does not want to pay £10 for a handicraft because he knows he is getting scammed even though he wants it.
Well, that is the way life is. Everyone knows we have money if we buy well now, we won’t have to spend as much next summer.
Is there a meet tomorrow before the match ? be nice to get a face to face.
Not sure that Lamela is worth, what was it, £30 million?
We could have got Gotze for £30 million…
You grafting Kev?
There worth what you have to pay Kev. Taking Wenger’s comments into account that’s the problem, he won’t do it.
Baldini was still working for Roma when they enquired about Gerv. He turned us down, I heard. That is one reason Lamela cried this week.
I agree with Kev; I rate Lamela but £30M? He is maybe Ox’s level but Ox does not do it enough consistently.
Adem is the one I rated but…
Morning Rico and all.
Wenger is free to do what he wants. We have seen that for years now and never more so than during these last 100 days. When you have an owner like Kroenke delegating power to Wenger then, in one sense, Wenger runs the club. Neither Gazidis nor the board have the power to override his decisions and that is why we are where we are. Now Wenger might expect us to believe that, with a matter of a few days to go, he is just where he wants to be with regard to strengthening the squad. We may think that his plan, if he ever had one, has been a disaster. He clearly doesn’t give a shit. He has set himself against the world and bit by bit that has become himself against the fans. This is bad news for any football club as a house divided against itself cannot stand. I understand that there is no way that the ghastly Kroenke could ever begin to understand how the supporters feel. I also doubt he fully grasps the power that those plebs could wield against him if they decided en masse that enough was enough.
It seems clearer than ever to me that we are in the end-game of Wenger’s reign. He was great once but he is old and stale. We respect him but are beginning to feel sorry for him now. Yes, there are the usual morons like sabrerat for whom he can do no wrong but the great weight of opinion is surely firmly against what he is doing these days, whatever that may be. But, whether he does or doesn’t make any decent signings, he is not the future and it will soon be the fans job to make sure that Kroenke isn’t the future either.
For the past few years I have watched the club I grew up with erode away to the American sports franchise that it is today. What has happened over there has broken my heart and many thousands like me. After the Villa game, when they interviewed that bloke outside the ground, the words that cut me more deeply than any others were when he accused Wenger and Gazidis of ripping the pride from the club, I just hope and pray that, when all this madness is over, there is still some remnant of the proper Arsenal left and we can rebuild again.
Beat the spuds tomorrow and sign 3 world class players before Monday. Wots all the fuss about.keep the faith fuckers
Morning Lee, no not yet, been to the gym and now I’m just having a cuppa…
Great point made by Bayern btw.
Morning Adam, Wath and everyone…
Strangely, I don’t feel as frustrated as I should do with so little positive transfer news.
Maybe a feeling of resignation is sweeping over me, as I kinda knew, sadly, that this is what it would come down to this transfer window.
At least it’s earned me a Fiver…..
Morning Rico…. 😛
Cork Gunner, you on the piss already 😛
I should have known it was NOT our rico. 😳
Hello, WATH, Kev, Lee, ginge, Adam, potter. It really sucks to be an Arsenal fan these days.
Adam, It is with a sense of realism that what you say could be so close to being the truth…! The root of all evil is the syrup yet wenger has allowed his ego to take over and i feel when the worm turns for good he will get the full venom yet that’s also very sad and also wrong to a large degree as we have an owner who has allowed this to manifest to the situation that we know find ourselves in yet that piece of shit will walk away by making hundreds of millions due to a very clever investment.
The Guiness in Cork must be extra-strong…
Cheers… 😀
It’s not sad AGAG, being an Arsenal fan is never sad but it’s most certainly frustrating when we can see with what the club generates financially we should not be in this position and should be competing and we should be trowing our financial muscle around yet we sit by and do nothing… a rudderless ship with an owner who doesnt care where the ship sails to.
Hiya Buddy…
Do they have a shop called TK Maxx in Manila???
Wath. As ever mate, the results will either vindicate Wenger or finally do for him. A weak squad and some poor results and, by Christmas, the negative energy in the ground will be truly shocking. We came very close last year a few times and it wasn’t very nice.
Underestimate it at your peril Mr Syrup.
been following Lamela since his river plate days…! To think he is gone to the spuds when we had a chance and a need for a player of his ilk!…30 million would be his going rate in this mad market!
Cork gunner: Friendly limerick man in need of some optimism pass the whiskey?
Adam you think it will take until Xmas for the venom to spill over….?
I think it will be far sooner than that mate. People are sick and tired of being taken for granted, the antagonistic and patronizing comments are becoming far to regular and lets be honest here the normal every day Arsenal fan is very forgiving but i think even the staunchest Wenger fan is beginning to wonder what he is talking about these days.
Someone said he is in danger of ruining his legacy for me it’s already been ruined…. Harsh but true in my book, I will never insult that man due to the respect for what he has done but i am very very close to wanting him gone what ever he does the next 48 hours in the transfer market because to leave it this late yet again is just plain madness and and and……….
This is quite funny for morgan –
Piers Morgan @piersmorgan 9m
And Elvis, Lord Lucan & Shergar > RT @CentreTransfer Arsenal have added Draxler and Kaka to their transfer target list.
Reports in France are claiming that Arsenal have made an £8.6million bid for St Etienne midfielder Joshua Guilavogui. The 22-year-old is under contract until 2016 and has also been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid.
By Mark Buckingham 11:28 a.m
Sky Sports
WATH, I am sad. I feel tragic. You know, I have a thing for purchases. And AW NOT buying is unforgivable to me. 😉 Don’t get me wrong, it’s not as if I’ll ever stop supporting Arsenal or that I’ll ever change allegiance, but there is so little to be positive about these days.
AK, no.. 🙁 I’ve shopped at one of its outlets in Boston though. We wanted to walk the Freedom Trail or some such, but it was soooo cold, we spent four hours at Macy’s and TJ Maxx. Ahaha.
Adam, your 11:26 is as eloquent as ever. The sorry state of affairs at our club is such a damning indictment of the ineptitude of those at the helm.
Hi Agag,all well?
Andrew,I rate Lamela but I would spend 40M on Julian instead imo.
There is more to Draxlers game than Lamela and even Gotze.
He has a good injury record and off the field personality too.imho
Andrew, reports from earlier saying Guilavogue has signed for Ath Madrid…! No idea how true…!
Ts would you seriously spend 40mil on Draxler…? and no not taking the piss genuine question…?
Wath. You may be right. But, like some crazy passion play it seems we all have to watch it play out to the bitter end. If, after the window closes Wenger has assembled a squad that could win either the PL of the CL then fair enough. Do you think that will be the case?
The other thing I wonder is why, when he is so inert, does he feel the need to constantly comment on other clubs? Just say that it’s their business and you have nothing to say.
Hear what your saying AGAG, I would be far happier if we had an owner that was in the directors box week in week out who I could voice my opinion to and make sure he knew that I wanted him out of my club… whats the use of abusing the board that are merely there as his puppets and own zero % of the club..? We need to get at The Syrup..!
Oddly, enough the advert I’m seeing for HH now must have been written by AW: “It takes courage, but saving money is worth it” with a link to feedthepig.org
Ha ha.
Adam, maybe if he talks about others it takes the emphasis off what he’s doing or not doing at Arsenal, Yes the media like to ask abstract questions and in the past he always has an opinion but surely by now he should be saying sorry but that is not my priority nor does it interest me what concerns me is Arsenal football club and nothing else. Still pisses me off he goes off on the off season to do sponsor commitments ??? how do we allow that..? he works for us why does he even have a castrol sponsorship..? HE should be busy on AFC business not commentating on piss willy games around the world.
Adam he comments on the other clubs because he feels he is alone in his sanity whilst the rest of the world has gone mad. A bit like playing Don Quixote with Gazidis as Sancho Panza.
Arsenal fans – quiet at the arena, loud on internet…. Unable to see the positives.
I wouldn’t be happy with that if I were a player. Perhaps thats the reason we have problem new recruits. We need the fanbase to be the 12:th man, not a dumb bitching spoiled brat.
So lets look at this summer in a objective manner and examin what have been good and what have been bad.
The negatives:
1) Arsenal didn’t bring in 1-2 top players early in the summer. That would have given them time to melt in and too ease pressure from media and juvenil internet fans. It would also be a energy boost for the existing squad and a message to other clubs that we are serious. We did try thoug, with confirmed bids for both Suares and Bender.
2) Still got Bendtner on our books.
3) The Villa defeat – really bad first game of the season. We should have don better with our existing squad.
4) Injuries – big problem and something that feels extra painful with our lack of depth.
The positives:
1) Clearing the deadwood – Arsenal have been ruthless this summer and made way for new recruits. This may also make it possible for us to pay market salaries too a big star signing. It also sends a message to the remaining squad – you made the cut, we belive in you.
2) The existing squad – we are building on from our very good finish from last year. We got 15-16 really good players that will only improve this season. Just look at Ramsey, Gibbs and Giroud. We look better than most, only lack depth.
3) Our last 3 games – three easy wins in a row (8-1 in total), can’t remember when that happend last. No more grey hair watching Arsenal games.
4) Flamini – maby the best signing we could do. A perfect squadplayer, whith workrate, experience and who knows our way of playing to the cost of 0 £. Brilliant.
5) 2 day left of the window. Plenty of time to do business with realistic prices. I’m sure Arsenal will spend all of the 70m. £ kitty.
6) One conceded goal in 3 game, solid. And with Verm back after the interlull its looking bright at the back.
What positives did I miss?
Potter. 🙂
Tilting at windmills.
Adam, passion plays invariably end in crucifixion. If we don’t get anyone in, I say AW, the Board and The Syrup all deserve to be nailed to some cross… upside down. 😀
AW never finds QUALITY PLAYERS in the market..
According 2 him there is almost no one who can strengthen the team further !!
Well, was he really thinking about strengthening when he signed GERVINHO..PARK CHU YOUNG..SANTOS..!!
I love AW and the wonderful things he has achieved with the club but he has finally lost the plot.He has too much control over everything. His stubborn attitude has already cost us dearly.
The board is only milking the ARSENAL brand.
I am totally against spending just for the sake of it.
But our current squad needs reinforcement badly in order to reduce the gap at the top.
We never replaced the likes of Song & Van Persie !!
Hope everything changes for the better !!
GOONER for life !!
Interesting post Daniel but if it was juvenile internet fans only wanting new signings what do you make of all the Arsenal playing crying out for new quality additions to the squad…?
I take it when you go to games your a noisy supporter then and not one of the silent ones in the ground..?
Wath,I won’t pay £40M for any player but I believe Julian is now better than Gotze and does not get as injured.
Agag. I am with you. 🙂
There is the issue Ts, he’s 19 only and as much as I want us to buy quality would you risk 40million on him as it stand now…? If he was 21 and had been a very good player for 2 seasons and shown he can turn a match on it’s head then I would say yes risk the 40million but to risk that much on a 19yr old who isn’t proven in the premier league is a huge huge bullet to bite.. I’d rather risk 50 million on a Suarez bid on a proven PL players. Offer 25mil for Draxler as a top end bid but can we afford to risk more than that on a player who has so far just shown glimpses of his quality and potential or in your opinion is he already consistently good..?
AGAG, The Syrup upside down to be pelted with rotten tomatoes.!
Then I’d like to see what a cattle prod does to him…!
Of course we need more players. Everyone can see that. And Wenger and his people have alot to improve when it comes to transfers. My problem with the fanbase is that the focus almost always are negative on internet. We are always in crises. The obvious positives are often forgotten. I really want that to change.
Yeah, I make quite some noise when at a game. Only able to go to one Arsenal game a year thoug. Fucking ticketprices, sack the board. (Thats a joke, I live overseas).
unfortunately does anyone really believe we will sign top drawer players i.e. Di Maria or even (Draxler)….?
I do expect two signings…three would surprise me but I think these additions would be for the squad rather than the first eleven a depressing realisation if it pans out!!?
Hiya, ginge. Howdy? Or should I not ask? ;
And then Adam and WATH, they can be doused with kerosene and set on fire. 😀
Daniel , I posted a breakdown of the match going fanbase a few days ago, bear in mind that really we only have out of the 60,000 probably 25 – 28 000 actual supporters the rest are in club level /diamond club , away fans and tourists. I believe that most of the remainder support the team on the pitch but it’s not in the nature of quite a few of them to make noise so halve that and what is left ?
As for the squad , so many of our players have said we need players , most of the supporters too. Some want superstars others are more realistic and realise that we have to bring in the player that will fight for a place and realise that he won’t be an automatic first pick. However for wenger to say that these players do not exist is either complacent or just plain madness. We all know where we are short even Mr wenger has admitted that we are , but either he will not join the real world or he is being hamstrung by the board. Like most people I am favouring the first scenario.
me too potter unfortunately – but i will say its nothing new – he’s been hit and miss on the transfer front for a few years now. Only issue he now has is his usual excuse rug has been pulled out by his mate in crime.
that’s more like it a deal at half the price 4m tops –
The source, who coaches in Norway’s top flight, added: “Spurs and Everton have been looking at him [Vilsvik] for some time but it looks like Arsenal want to push something through ASAP.”
Daniel, there is the media line that we are always in crisis because it sells papers and generates hits on the net then there are the fans that buy into that… Then there are the sensible Arsenal fans that don’t need the media to tell them anything although Wenger seems to think we do with last weeks comments…! There is no crisis but if anyone thinks thinks are all ok then I would say they in cloud cuckoo land…!
When fans pay the prices that we pay they expect a certain something in return and that for me is seeing a team in the pitch that can compete for trophies, we cannot…! We have a decent current squad but they are way to short and we lacking in players than can put in match winning performances. We have had huge cash in the accounts for the last 4 transfer windows yet it’s not been spend and genuine fans now have had enough and want to know why.
Potter spot on mate, even with 4 solid signings the squad would be that much better and then 1 top top signing could of made all the difference but alas we wait… in hope but more I think we are waiting with that same old feeling of being let down…! I put my hat in the corner that this summer would be different, I though we would at long last show some intent and flex that mighty bank balance but I have been made to look like total pratt..! disillusioned and let down is how I am feeling.
I still wanna smash the swampie vermin 2moro though.
potter, Aw et al. have bough some really poor players, it’s appalling. Santos, Park, et al. = waste of money.
I’m with you Wath, I would have gone up to £50 million for Suarez to test John Henry’s resolve…
We could still do that, with 3 days left, to really fcuk with their heads…
If we want to spend that sort of cash Kev , Torres and Mata might be a good shout.
Potter can you ever see Moreenyo selling to us though… Not gonna happen…!
Also Kev, offer 50mil for Suarez which also pisses off Madrid as well…!
I think old Ebenezer is trying to deceive clubs that he has target players from that he won’t be held into ransom, hence the bulls he is saying to the media..
Well I hope so anyway..
afternoon..
Afternnon all!
how many players were on our radar this season? 20? 30? 40?
Hull is vey well organize in the pitch
My money on Di Maria… I think we could /would/should get him.. 🙂
That’s right Wath, we don’t owe Madrid any favours…
Sahin, Higuain, probably all the others we’re supposed to be after…
Madrid always shaft us…
Upsetting the Scousers is always popular in my household….
Potter, as Wath said, Chelsea/Maureen simply won’t do business with us…
I reckon both Torres & Mata will return to Spain…
I did read a rumour linking us to Mascherano of Barca…
That could be a possible deadline signing IMHO…
At 29 he is just the right age.
Still plenty in the tank, too old to use us as a stepping stone, cheap & cheerful wages and fee.
another one: Alderwiereld (Ajax) sign for a. Madrid
Can’t stand Madrid Kev, they think their shit don’t stink… I’d shaft them at every opportunity if I could they will try rip us with the players we been linked with so why are we even bothering..? Maybe it’s all a con, make them think we want the 3 they get Bale think they getting money from us only for us to pull out at the very last minute and buy 3 other players plus Suarez 😉
Ok ok back to the GG for me mate I know…!
jm, when you look at the players that are being sold can anyone honestly say a couple would not of given us much better squad depth…?
Diaby…
Our New signing in November Lee….!
Be funny if it wasn’t true…..
Along with Podolski and Arteta…!
You spoken to BW… He out to play 2moro or not interested..?
Good read.Draxler is a very good player.am a fan but £40mil sounds too much for a teenager.however if bale costs £90 mil there will be an obvious inflation of prices ane Draxler in a year or two will be worth much more.Ferguson paid close to £30 mil for rooney as a teenager a decade ago and it paid off.Draxler has that potential to become immense and its about taking that leap of faith.
personally i’d rather di maria but i’d love draxler.
I think our first eleven tomorrow wii completly outclass spurs.if we pick up a few injuries during the game we might struggle.this game has come to soon for spudz new signings in my opinion 4-1 bowling ball head will want to spend another 50 mil after tomorrows game
ok, but Draxler can’t play in the Champions League
None of my comments are coming through…
I agree cork.our 1st 11 has more quality than theirs and will have to win it for us.if we had poldi/ox/arteta/diaby fit that squad would be looking quite tasty.as it stands our bench options will be quite limited.
Finally,
Wath to answer your earlier question.I will pay £40M for Julian based on Gotze fee and his poor injury record.
In my view,I think last season Draxler and Farfana contributed the most to SC04’s success as Afelay and Huntelaar were almost always injured.
Additional Gotze of the last 18 months is not the one AW tried to sign with the £30M bid.
Your round Corky, get ’em in mate..
Wath has a double GG.
Mines a pint of Peroni..
Draxler can play for us in the CL if he comes…
18.07 As a rule, a player may not play in a UEFA club competition (i.e. UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League, but not UEFA Super Cup) for more than one club in the course of the same season. Exceptionally, however, a player who has been fielded in the first, second, third qualifying round or the play-offs of the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League is entitled to play in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League for another club as from the group stage. Moreover, as from the start of the round of 16, a player can be registered in accordance with paragraphs 18.18 to 18.21 below. A substitute player who has not been fielded is entitled to play for another club competing in the UEFA Champions League or UEFA Europa League in the course of the same season, provided that he is registered with the UEFA administration in accordance with the present regulations
Lee, 1.46pm;
Hmm, I bet that couple of lagers tasted nice mate… 😉
Do you also know we had a bid accepted for Julian last summer but the player decided to stay for another year.
However, like Gotze,Grenier and Hazard before him their club chairman offered those players improved contracts and inserted a buy out clause knowing an endorsement from Arsene will bring on the more generous or ambitious clubs to meet the buy out clause…
Ktr 7 with them players back and 3 or 4 possible signings before deadline and we could have a great season.all wenger has to do is get the cheque book out.thats not to much to ask for is it
Draxler in my opinion will become a Ronaldo type of forward;an attacking machine.he has more to his game than Gotze and in 2 years time he will be out of our reach.as i said earlier player prices are inflated and you have to swim with the sharks of you want quality.it may or may not come off…its a leap of faith.
Cork thats the annoying bit.we have always had an excellent foundation of quality even when we had the likes of cesc.all we needed were a few signings to really push us on but for some reason wenger doesn’t do it.its quite annoying and frustrating as a fan since we fail to win that foundation gets broken by players leaving forcing us to start again.
Di Maria “I don’t know where I’ll be
playing next week , there is a club in
England that like me and an offer from
france so who knows” #AFC
Di Maria ” yes money is nice but my
decision will be for football and I want to
play at the highest level in the best
leagues” #AFC
Didn’t Draxler only sign a new contract in May…? I hear what your saying about him coming good and being worth more in a few years but lets be honest a player like that comes good we don’t want to be selling him we want to be winning things..!
Make of this what you will, can’t see us offering a player who is out for 10 weeks though, sounds like we taking the piss again… Just offer the money if we really want him.
Jan Aage Fjortoft @JanAageFjortoft 29m
Based on very good sources: Yesterday Arsenal offered Schalke 30 mill Euro and @Podolski10 to get Julian Draxler.
WATH nasri signed a new contract a month before joining us mind you…
however Draxler is already very good imo and will only get better.he is quite a risk for that amount and thats why i’d rather di maria myself.if he does come he could be immense under wenger.
Does wenger really want di maria AND Draxler?…
I can’t see us wanting Di Maria and Draxler it’s one or the other kt, seems we just trying for as many as possible so at least one comes off….! law of averages is the more you ask someone will say yes…!
I’d say Di Maria just as much a risk as Draxler, least German league is similar to England Spain isn’t so would Di Maria fit in..?
WATH, re 12:21, i think that was the logic AW used when he went for Gerv instead of Hazard.
According to remours AW recommended Hazard to Lille and we even had first refusal but then Lille got him to sign an improved contract in 2011 and the rest was history.
Sow even redrew a transfer request but then Lille shafted us…
No logic in a 25 yr old though Ts, if Drax is 19 and worth the risk then take it just don’t take a risk on a 25 yr old just because he 1/3 or the price of the player that we actually need…!
We don’t need to penny pinch anymore yet Wenger cannot come to terms with that cos he still entrenched in the fact he thinks we’re the only team on the planet who should not get ripped off.
Wath lets look at the list of spanish imports who are attackers: santi silva mata michu have all been hits in the league.if anything they find it easier here due to more spaces and less tactics.attacking players from la liga find the PL easy.
I like Di Maria kt don’t get me wrong I just sometimes look at him and think he a bit of a luxury player and we have enough of those…! Draxler also seems bit more direct and quicker….!?!?
I know thinks seem dire but I think we need to put things in perspective a little bit.
For once, I strongly believe AW has tried to sign quality.
I am not saying that is enough or that should give him a free pass but…
Grenier, Gonalon, Josuha G, Bender, Hig, Cabaye, Uchida and even Suarez and Di Maria have all been tracked and bids have been placed. These are the ones we know about and I am sure there are a few who we do not know about yet. Even Poldi refused to join us in January as he wanted to feature in last years Euros.
But the issue is that AW has not or did not guarantee players like Josuha, Gustavo, Grenier and Gonalon a place in the starting XI. Because it is a world cup most of the players we have gone after have chosen the easier route.
On the other hand players like De Bruyne or Schurlle are either guaranteed a place if they stay fit or are not really near their countries senior squad.
Capoue this summer chose Spurs over Ath Madrid and us because he knew he had more of a chance in their squad.
I know those players are not the Wooney, Fellaini, Williams of this world but are those players really that good.
Moyes is not even keen on Fellaini and has chosen to bid more for Herrara than he bid for Baines and MF and he brought MF to this league.
I am sure AW knows of players wiki and goal.com do not even know about, lets hope we get a few gems in the last 2 days.
classic 😀 😀
’25 yr old just because he 1/3 of the price’
Di maria is anything but a luxury player imho wath.mourinho is one of the strictest managers out there but he always started di maria when fit.he works immensely hard both attacking and defensively.he is anything bar a luxury or else mou would’ve got rid off ages ago.
If you prefer Draxler then you have to pay the going price am afraid.illaramendi cost 35 mil, Gotze around the same price, Lamela cost 30 mil so in the current market he is worth that price and if wenger really wants him he must pay it.
Problem is Ts perspective when fans will say we have fucked up the last 90 days is a little to much to ask when we now sitting with just over 2 days left to buy.
It seems like a proper scatter gun approach to players with no real plan…! Media reports we have made offers that are then denied enquiries for players do not mean we have made a concrete offer and it seems many of the links are just that. Were we ever in for Suarez at 40 million..? we thought we could get him on the cheap for 40 but if we really really wanted him then pay up and make an offer to get the player you want. As i say it’s not a car boot sale if you want the top end quality players they don’t come cheap and trying to haggle just pisses the selling clubs off.
I still believe wenger wants to buy for a set value and will not break his own ideals on that and hence we suffering…! just my view obviously and I know you don’t agree with me.
I strongly believe he has’nt offered enough money ts,
wengers valuation of a player
is what matters to him.
Agree kt, his one man “i’m not paying inflated prices crusade” gets us nowhere and gets us no quality players…! If you want the quality pay up shut up get them signed and see what top quality gives you…! pay peanuts get Gervinho pay proper get Hazard…! No brainer..!
Nail on the head Fred, we all know wenger values players according to the 1950’s I reckon…! Unless he selling of course then he wants top dollar..!
Kev, they drink Murphy’s in Cork !
Micko who’s this Murphy fella..?
WATH the laws of supply and demand determine the price and wenger’s valuation of a player matters very little as a result.there aren’t many top top class players available in the market but there is a lot of cash lying around.basic economics will tell you the prices in such a market will be inflated.
If madrid had purchased bale for say £50 mil our £40 mil offer for suarez would’ve been acceptable but if bale costs €91 mil then pool will view the offer as derisory considering they think suarez is the better player.
As you say kt Wenger doesn’t do his maths like that…! He values a player and thats that…! Stubborn and very short sighted but he’s never been any different, he doesnt take into consideration what value that player could bring to the club, winning trophies, shirts sold, commercial partners who would want to jump on board…? etc etc etc… Oh well…! Same shit different day.
Wath, Sanogo got up my nose, Flamini I can stomach but Kalou would be a kick in the nuts !
Just can’t see Wenger spending over 25 mill on any player in the next 48 hours.
Me neither Micko…..! We’ll see though..!
Ancelotti confirms at at his pre-Bilbao
press conference that Lopez will start in
goal yet again tomorrow. Refuses to talk
about transfers.
I totally agree WATH re not offering enough. But on the other hand what amount is enough?
Was a 12M Euro or £10M bid for a 27 y.o Cabaye who has no CL experience derisory? Is that a starting point for negotiation.
Unless there is a clear cut release clause I believe most clubs haggle.
Bale’s figures are a clear example in my view. RM are offering ludicrous amounts but Spuds want more.
Was a 23M euro bid for Bender enough? I think it was more than enough but Leverkussen do not need the money after Schurrle’s sale imho so unless we went with maybe £35M they will still say no. Is a player who has not won anything and not featured in the CL worth that amount? He is not even a commercial cash cow…
I do not agree most clubs get what they intend for their players on sale.
CF04 was a typical example. Had he wanted to just leave us I am sure we could have gotten more from RM but he only wanted to go to Baraca. We could have gotten more from $hitty for VP but he wanted only Yanited so we had to settle on a figure.
Unfortunately, there is something very seriously wrong with the way a lot of people including the Home Office see Arsenal.
How can Willian get work permit but Perez refused? How can NUFC of all people consider us as rivals?
WATH, I agree AW is stingy but I thought IG said that some Havard analyst determine how much we pay for players?
I remember last year Bayern paid €40 mil for Martinez.at the time it seemed excessive but over the course of the season it proved justified since he helped them win the treble and am sure Bayern pocketed probably 5 times that for their achievements…however it can also turn out to be like Torres but my point is you have to be prepared to take a risk if you want that big reward. If Schalke want £40 mil and Wenger thinks he is immense just pay it.if he turns out to be the next Ronaldo that price will be viewed as a bargain.
Ts, Perez is unknown in Europe, compare to William who won titles with SD and play in the CL, he has more credentials to get a WP than Perez. I think they give players work permit based on their value, a higher transfer fee would guarantee the player gets a good wage package, which generates more taxes from their wage. Everything is all about money, so AW can continue b Mr Economic we will b left behind like the nuts of a dog. IMO
I think the simple fact is AW and the club know how to shop from Primani but do not know how to shop from Queens Road..
They either have to ask for help or just move on…
Not a lot of folks can go from eating at their local chippy or wetherspoons to ordering a meal from the Fat Duck or a Michelin star restaurant.
There are so many thing Ts that as the buying club you have to decide what is the amount your prepared to pay and why…! What does that player give you on and off the pitch..! Value for us won’t be value for Stoke and value for Citeh won’t be value for us but every now and then surely we need to realise for the odd specific player then you need to pay over the odds to get what you need. Yes we know the Bale sale warps the market but it happens once a year with certain players. We need a board to be prepared t pay a price and to tell Wenger to not worry about a fee the club will pay what we can afford not based on his scary values which are about 40% under market value it seems.
We can discuss this all night long and all we do is go round in circles until someone at the club decides to make things right we won’t get any players in that will be game changers in my opinion.
Isn’t the harvard bollox a yard stick on value on shirt sales marketability and wages..? Not the actual fee…!?!? Another sign that we need proper football people negotiating the deal not a bunch of suits…!
Jürgen Klopp: “I had the feeling that we
would get Arsenal (in the CL). I watched
them on Sunday and was impressed.”
Possible Dna, but the WP criteria has more to do with the nation and age of the player than how much the player earns.
Columbia are 3rd in the FIFA ranking and the boy within 3 years of starting pro football has represented his country at a youth U-20 world cup. Willian at 25 y.o has only 2 caps for Brazil…
It is not just the Perez case, years ago Edu Caspar was refused entry to the UK with his false passport and the home office refused us a special clearance for him. He had to wait until the following year before he could join us.
Hernandez of Yanited got a special talent work permit without featuring for his country but J Campbell who was just short of getting a proper WP at his age and had featured numerous times for his nation was refused a special talents permit.
Ryo was also refused a permit. The reason he went to Holland first…
Paulinho could have joined us last summer for £8M but he could not get a work permit so we redrew our bid when we realised he did not qualify for an EU passport.
On Wenger wages he sure don’t eat down the chippy Ts….! He knows the value of a player he knows the market he knows what we need I think he is just to stubborn to go and make it happen as if all the money is his and it’s breaking his ideals to pay over the odds and for a quality player…!
Ditto-WATH at 4:15.
When DD appeared on TV last June, he was certain he was coming back. AW wanted him back too; so who refused him…?
Lets not forget the role of agents in all of this.Arsenal and MUFC are the only big clubs in England that are unwilling to give agents a huge pay off just to push through a deal.it was the reason why MUFC pulled out of the race to sign Hazard because the agent wanted £6 mil to himself for the deal.agents like Mino Raiola and Jorge Mendes are a nightmare to deal with as a result.Di maria is a client of the latter and if an oil rich club rivals us for him its curtains for us.
The syrup Ts… he wants him nowhere near the club as he knows he’s in bed with AU…!
Interesting WATH; I always thought they were kool; but PHW was the hindrance…
Kt- you make another excellent point at 4:24 pm.
Ba comes to mind too…
PHW was only half the problem with DD that all came out when DD fell out with DF over biz…! PHW then jumped on the bandwagon and obviously sided with DF. DD talking to the syrup behind their backs was the perfect opportunity for them to have him frog marched off the premises..! Think DF made sure DD will not be allowed back with the syrup in charge, DD only way back is through AU but……………..
kt the problem with that is AFC must know players agents before they even open negotiations or enquire about a player so you know the minefield before you even start, if we not going to pay agents which is the right call then you don’t even bother with players who are on the books of the sharks you refuse to deal with.
ts can you imagine how much cash bale’s agent will get this summer?…he is probably never going to need to work ever again.
Pere Guardiola must be pissed off by pool’s resolve not to sell suarez because he’ll miss out on a huge pay day.
It probably isn’t that interesting, but the Harvard bollix was derived from a guy called Billy Beane who used player statistics to help his team over achieve compared with the ‘big spenders in baseball.
He has said that Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger is a personal idol, and his friendship with Kroenke has allowed him to delve deep into the world of English football to seek comparative statistics.
Beane’s baseball team had such great success despite its financial disadvantages he was the subject of a book called ‘Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game, and he was played by Sean Pitt in a film of a similar name, ‘Moneyball’ which looked at his work with Harvard-educated statistician Paul DePodesta, showing their cost-effective ways of running the team.
Boring, of course, but AW seems to have gone along with this theory, despite the time it takes to evaluate each player, and pointless if we don’t buy anyone.
I agree Kt re Bale’s agent. I heard Bales deal is also driven by Adidas as well…
Soldano’s agent slowed down his move to the spurds for almost 2 weeks.
Spurs went back for Damaiao this summer with the fee Internacional wanted last summer but I heard they demanded close to 40M due to the mar4ket value; that was the reason they went for Soldano at his age and all…
Draxler starts for Schalke against
Leverkusen. Live at 5:30 on BT Sports 2…
Hildebrand,
Uchida, Santana, Matip, Aogo,
Neustädter, Höger,
Farfan, Boateng, Draxler,
Szalai
I heard SC04 are asking for Euros 60M instead as they think he is better than Gotze…
No Keisling. Hmmm
Cabaye features too…
True ts.Adidas have already sent Bale’s boots for his official presentation from Germany to madrid.Perez must be rubbing his hands together with eager anticipation of how much cash he’ll make from bale’s marketability.its clear bale’s head has already been turned by this and as a result he has already changed his hairstyle and dresscode.
HenryB, Yep the bille bean thing is well documented and now seems as if the syrup thinks it can be done across his franchises and will work in football, think we seeing that if a def “F” for fail on the footie side.
If Draxler is starting for Schalke then the chances are that he is staying there.
Clubs do not risk injury to players who might be sold – especially with 2 days to go.
Steve Bruce tells Danish media today that he is hopeful of signing Bendtner from Arsenal. Palace also in talks
HB- I think we can forget about Julian now…
Ka ka is joining Milan too to replace Boateng.
Sicknote Gourchuff it is then…. lol
Wath, do you think Kroenke even knows, cares or understands why Wenger is using an American sport process in the major UK sport?
I think you said before its bollix and who can argue with that?
2 day to go, I’m tired of this transfer bs.
HenryB Draxler starting doesn’t count for much.Boateng started in Milan’s playoff match against PSV on Weenesday but on Friday he was a Schalke player.the same happened with nasri a couple of years ago when he started against pool but was sold days later.the manager is just doing the best to win the match with the players available.
ts if we actually offered £40 mil i find it hard to believe that schalke will resist since it will be by itself a Bundesliga record transfer especially for a 19 year old.
The old guard back together…
http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/news-photo/tomas-rosicky-mathieu-flamini-and-bacary-sagna-of-arsenal-news-photo/178903336
Hope you r right Ktr.
Kt- dp you think we have offered £25M then? lol
He has a buy-out clause demanding 45M euros and above allegedly.
Evening folks, no news again then…
Just off to have a catch up..
HB, no way does the syrup care but I bet he is telling Wenger that the harvard stuff works when your trying to save money and get better value… It’s all the syrup cares about. Utter bollox it is but while he is the owner it’s what we are going to have to put up with.
Re Draxler I thought his buy out was 37mil euro Ts…? could be very wrong on that but remember the new deal mentioned that was the clause amount.
That clause expired in the end of June according to some reports i’ve seen in Germany.
I’m still expecting a shocking transfer to happen out of the blue…I still think there is one final twist with suarez imho.
It’s been a busy day, poor Wath 😉
William..
spuds…..thought he was worth 30million,
chavs…..thought he was worth 30million,
wenger.. thought he was worth ? who knows
WATH just guessing myself…
Fred, Willian only has 2 Brazillian caps. Hulk has more and to me he is shite… I know we are all desperate but I think AW was right to stay away. His agent wanted too much too.
If Willian wanted to play week in and week out I suspect he would have chosen the spurds in order to get a chance in his national side but he went for the biggest offer…
Could we or should we offer more than the chavs for him… not for me! But its just my opinion so…
Look at Huntelaar as an example, will those who slated AW for not going for him admit they were wrong as Huntelaar has hardly played since January….
If anyone is watching Sven Bender’s atm ,I will like your views on if he is worth more than what we offered for him?
I love Uchida and Farfan
Hi Rico and bye…. pub calls, have a great evening all..!
ts..most players will go for bigger pay packet,
thats the other problem we have.
If it was up to me william and hulk would not be
the sort of players I would bring in.
wenger has spent the whole summer
deithering.
Why not offer 60million for rooney
wenger made a comment that the club
could match his wage demands,
yet as far I know seemed to accept he wanted to go the
chavs.
Hi Wath, enjoy the pub, have one for me 🙂
Thanks for binning the impostor ….;)
Later Wath…
I agree Fred, but it should be noted that with our £100M or so in reserve we still have a budget. Should we have a budget is the next question?
Is Wooney worth £50M or £60M? His £10M a year salary too… personally, I think he is very overrated. His best seasons are behind him imo; if he wasn’t English he won’t be so highly rated imho…
The thing is that there is no guarantee any player no matter the transfer fee will be a hit.
Shevchenko is one example and Veron is another. We fans moan about wasting £10M on a player who scored 7 goals in 18 starts so I guess AW is scared with his own judgement now.
Laters wath, thirsty work keeping the peace !
tsgh, just Arsene’s luck, given 70 million to spend this summer and fifa decide to put on a World Cup in 2014 ! He just can’t win.
I believe that Arsenal actually bid for Lars Bender…
Ha ha Micko, he is just a socialist. lol
Micko, I think we need someone used to spending big with our new found wealth…
If our ‘suits’ had any brains we should have gone toe to toe with Yanited for Kagawa or chased Honda. His status in the Far East alone would pay for his transfer… we are clueless in all departments to be honest. That is why I have a bigger gripe with IG’s status and his bonus…
Hiya Kev, I thought our bid went to Leverkussen and not Dortmond.
Sven is better though imo…
Alan Pardew admits Arsenal target Yohan Cabaye could still leave Newcastle United this summer despite making his first Premier League appearance of the season.
I still can’t believe no manager fancies Keisling…. 😮
Watch the end of the newcastle/fulham game
hugs all round for Cabaye
Its all opinion as far as the fans go regarding
who will who wont improve the squad.
For me we need a good english leader
someone whos not afraid of going to
away grounds on a winter night.
Wonder if the chavs would have been as
successful without…Terry.Lampard,and cole
Micko, it is, every day of the week 😉
Cabaye was booed from start to finish I read, that will make him want to stay…
fred – I had once hoped Cahill would be that man. Many here suggested he was an average player but he’s frown and grown since joining Chelsea imho…
Just wish Wenger had been a bit more committed to getting him signed…
Sounds familar rico..
All too much fred….
Wonder if the Bale sale will go through tomorrow when the final whistle goes or will Levy wait until 10.59pm on Monday….
Tell you what would be pretty good and that’s if tomorrow morning, Wenger announces we have signed three really really good players..
That timing would be perfect, would raise the fans hope, boost the current players and set the day up quite nicely…
Or as Lee would say, b……
Evening Rico. I reckon that will definitely happen. 🙂
Old Uncle Arsene always delivers.
Evening Adam. Would be nice wouldn’t it, however…..
Uncle Arsene does deliver, fibs and more fibs…….
But Rico. It was you who told me that things were gonna change. Are you having doubts? 🙂
I took IG’s words for exactly what they said Adam, as Iv’e said before, I forgot that someone else had to get on board too…
Silly me eh… 😉
Just hope is left now, how sad is that….
I feel your pain too Rico, but I believe you can tell a lot about a man by the shape of his head.
Not heard that before Adam, hair and shoes I was always told when I was young…
Obviously in Lee’s case it would have to be eyes 😉
Stunning aren’t they Rico. Stunning. 🙂
Well…. ok I suppose 😉
On that thought-provoking note I bid you good evening as I am off to the home movies.
I am so looking forward to the Emirates tomorrow.
Ok, have a good evening Adam.. I bet you can’t wait for your trip…
It’s all very quiet here – the calm before the storm….
Night all, or anyone 😉
The eyes have it… 😉
It’s awful quiet rumour wise!
Not even LadyArse is up to much…
It’s all a bit too quiet and remember we like to do our business just like that!
Andrew- things are happening.
According to sky Italia we have placed another bid for Guita of Valencia the goalie.
ts, give me some good news…
Rumours in Spain are that RM have accepted a bid from us for one of Di Maria or Ozil. A proposed loan move for Kaka too.
It is up to the players now to decide…
http://www.realmadrid.com/cs/Satellite/es/Actualidad_Primer_Equipo/1330158164607/noticia/Convocatoria/Ancelotti_cita_a_20_jugadores_para_el_partido_ante_el_Athletic.htm
Kaka has been left out of the RM squad for tomorrows game
Yeah let’s hope its not a stupid £5 million bid again!
T.B.H I feel for our players who know full well they might go into this season with no options and room for rotation! They are the ones going to be feeling the pressure tomorrow even more so because of the manager and the boards i.e gazidis etc…. inactivity….
Kaka = Benayoun 2011
hiya Dna
Another one: G. Barry – Everton
I hope those rumors are true..
ts keep them coming.
Di Maria would be quality!… Kaka I’m not so sure we need him!
Shocking. ‘Messi has been bullying teammates for years’. Full story and shocking details here –
Messi has reportedly caused unrest in the dressing room and reduced Cristian Tello and other players to tears. The story was broken by Spanish site El Confidencial.
Eurosport report – ”The story – headlined “the true face of Messi” – was allegedly filtered out via Spain U19 stars Alejandro Grimaldo and Gerard Deulofeu, and claims that the unrest in the Barcelona dressing room has been kept firmly under wraps previously due to a Mafia-style ‘omerta’ – a law of silence.
Messi’s “favourite victim at the moment” is said to be Spanish 22-year-old Cristian Tello, to whom Messi has apparently delivered such gems as “What are you doing? You’re new here, and you’re nobody!” and “Pass me the ball, you’re here to play for me.”
A source told Yahoo “Well, it’s not the first time that it has been said Messi that is not a good team-mate, he had some troubles with David Villa last year and he probably has a special personality.”
In 2011 he reportedly told Alexis Sanchez: “Considering how bad you are, I’ve no idea how you cost so much,” and, “Stop shooting so much and give me the ball.
ts, i saw that couple weeks ago and i don’t believe it.
Its like Reyes and Henry.lol
Night guys… tomorrow is another day for Kalou and Kaka. 🙂
I believe it fully!…how can you not.. this man knowing full well avoided tax of up to £3.8 million…He also earns the highest wages in the world granted he is the best player there is no arguing that… but humble is a characteristic he does not possess
Night ts, as u start giving some news, u off to bed, its just 5:30pm in America, Stan probably sleeping too, have a good 1 bro….lol
AW,
“I would not work with a director of football because they buy the players and when it does not work you are guilty for not using them well,” said Wenger.
“I am not against having people to help me buy, sell and negotiate because I cannot do it all. But I think the final decision always has to belong to the manager to decide who comes in and who goes out because he is responsible for the style of play and results.”
Speaking to newspaper journalists, Wenger added: “It is like you write an article and someone says I will change that and that, and that.
“You should not accept that. Stand up for what you write!
“I stand up for the results of a team I have chosen. The manager should be responsible for the players who come in.”
“I cannot deny the transfer window is a problem for me because it conflicts with a period where the competition has started already and I need big focus on the competition.
“It’s not as easy any more because the market has become more open and international. There are more contenders, but not more players. I always want to be in a position where I do not have to buy.
“That is why I have people around me to help, but the final decision has to be down to the manager.”
“I don’t look too far ahead, I never have,” said Wenger. “This job teaches you a lot about yourself and I know one thing, everywhere I have worked has been to the last day with full commitment.
“That commitment will not change. Do I go or stay? I think I have shown my commitment to this club because I said no to many, many, many, many clubs while I have been here.
“I don’t need to show my loyalty.”
tsgh 10.23, Messi a bully, do me a favour, he’d struggle to make the cut for the rides at Thorpe Park !!! that’s priceless.
Gdna, Arsene is full of this, full of that, full of shit and full of crap !
rico, please excuse my bad language won’t you.
Nite Gooners.
Messi a bully, why not? Some of the world’s greatest bullies have been vertically challenged!
Eg Napoleon, Hitler, Mussollini, Kin wun Dong, Mao, Franco, Thatcher! Etc etc. why not the midget Messi too?
I think this story has legs!
Not Dong – Un. Soz
Very good article by Amy….
http://www.theguardian.com/football/blog/2013/aug/31/arsenal-wenger-tottenham-derby?
Well today is NLD day and putting the shambolic transfer window aside is now of utmost importance… It matters not who we blame for the lack of signings it matters not how thin the squad is what matters is we get behind the players and those pulling on the famous red and white shirt… We are The Arsenal…! Lets smash these pretentious swampie fuckers back into the bins where they came from… Lets make sure we cheer on our team and lets make sure that shower of shit get put rightly back in their place….!
COYR…..!
FOYS…!
Morning all..
Wath – you been reading my post 😉
Derby Day, get up you lazy lot 🙂
COYR’s
FOYS’s
That’s a very good article by Amy, AW can’t have it both ways. He says that after the season starts transfers are difficult and so yes, the biggest question is why leave it so late, why not get early deals done and then focus on the season ahead.
I didn’t see an answer for that, maybe he should have been asked.
I can understand what he says about a director of football but surely the idea would be for AW to give the director of football a list of players he wants to sign and then the guy/gal goes off and gets the deals done.
Morning Rico and all…. FOYS and COYGS!
I’ll take a draw now if offered!
Do you think smug Doug (AW) has got players all lined up, ready to rumble for post the NLD? My mate reckons so, I reckon no!!!
I’m properly crapping it……
Morning Lee –
You know I think I would too, but we have to beat the gits…
I posted last night that the perfect thing for AW to do is announce 3 really good signings late morning…
However….
I’m dreading it….
He’s very confident though Lee, when asked about the money we have and whether or not we will be wasting it he keeps saying, judge when the window shuts…
Surely even he wouldn’t be so daft as to say all that if things weren’t going to happen…
Morning all,
Dear oh Dear…
Emirates boss Arsene Wenger has told his recruitment staff that his priority is the signing of “a No.10” – a playmaker.
France international Cabaye, 27, fits the bill.
Daily Star. Clueless
My neighbour thinks 4-1 to the spuddies…. all I said was wait and see…
Where is that from?
Ah, Daily Star. = poppycock…
Heldt wants 70M euros for Julian… pfff
I really don’t know Rico if he’d be that stupid but my mate said there was an interview on Sky and he was extremely smug….. I really really don’t know anymore! Be lovely to beat those leg draggers from up the road and then announce three top draw signings! Then the alarm clock went off………
morning Rico…
lol
Gerrad must fear Suarez could yet move – his latest ‘you owe us comment’ suggests that…
Hmm, Chelsea’s Victor Moses has joined Liverpool on loan for a £1m fee. No permanent option included:
kt’s conspiracy.
Aw looks too assured for the current shambles not to have a Monreal style signing line-up.
Draxler admits if the club accept an offer from Arsenal before tomorrow’s deadline, he will leave from goal of course so….
I watched that interview Lee and your mate is right, I have never seem AW so smug – he’s up to something, just hope it’s good news and not him pissing off the fans with hope, only to be left bitter and angry..
Morning Ts
Montero is the winger linked if we don’t get Di Maria, we’d be battling with Cardiff for him 😆
He’ll be off to Cardiff then…
I suspect so….
I don’t want Cabaye do you Rico? We’ve enough players like him imho and the fee is far too much.
No Lee, I don’t want Cabaye. He’s too short, and too much like others as you say, I’d rather Fellaini or Guilavogui, Devil I think it was who has seen him play and believes him to be very good..
Fingers crossed that Park goes to St Etienne in a deal which would see him come to us..
Miguel made his debut for LCFC yesterday. Mixed reviews from 5 to 8 out of 10 rating.

NLD post is up….
Getting close now boys and girls.had a dream last night daniel levy wos satan ha ha.to much carsburg id say.wayne rooney not travelling to liverpool game, hmmm!
good evening fellow goonerites, well here we go hey? Lots of lip being given and the test arrives! Exciting
Intersting stuff from Wenger, he does realise the importance of today i assume? Of curse he does. The looser of this match regardless of excuse will be set back. Spurs should be in transition so a real chance for us here to hit them early – A loss and we hand them huge momentum – The players are right, a loss is simply not an option
Guilavogui – top top player?? Potential (there is that word again) yes, but top top player?? Agree with Rico, no interest in Cabaye.
cork – he has 10 stitches to a head wound i think mate
Wos wandering y jack wosent in the game.good chance for flamini to get fans onside though.playing jack midweek wos stupid
