Ivan Gazidis on the move. A relieved Wenger no doubt.

Morning all.

Who really cares that it was Welbeck’s shoulder which scored our opener? I certainly don’t. A goal is a goal and boy we needed an early one, if only to settle the fans. By all accounts though, that goal settled the team too and from there onwards, the victory was a walk in the park. Lacazette scored a cracker for our second, Welbeck with another fine strike made it 3-0. That’s all I’ve seen at the time of writing so as far as we played goes, over to you guys.

Most reports on the match praise Begovic who spared Bournemouth from a right pasting. Shame eh but three goals and a clean sheet is a much improved result on the three previous fixtures this season.

But I certainly won’t get overly excited. It’ll take a lot more than beating Eddie Howes team to convince me much if anything has changed and that day won’t come fo me, not all the time Arsene Wenger remains manager.

Its a bit like our transfer failings. Dick Law might be departing which is probably good news, but little will change in how we do our business all the time Wenger pokes his snozzer in. Yes, he should choose the players he wants and those he wants out but that’s as far as his involvement should go. Other than to have a chat with the player of course but when it comes to finances, leave that to someone else. Someone who wouldn’t offer a player of Oxlade-Chamberlains quality £180k a week.

Ivan Gazidis is reported to have been given the task of dealing with transfers which should be a big improvement as long as he can stand up to the Frenchman. Reports suggest he’s still trying to get his way as far as hiring a DoF goes too. The Mail write that’s Ivan’s upsticks from his previous office and moved to London Conley. Spying on the Frenchman I wonder…..

I’d imagine Arsene Wenger is a much relieved man this morning. No pun intended honest. He needed a good performance and result and he got both. Even Shokran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil played well according to the media.

Alexis Sanchez had to settle for coming on from the bench but that was hardly surprising having arrived back later than the others and travelling so many miles to do so. He received a mix reception from the fans. A few boos, a few cheers which I suppose was understandable but hopefully the boos will disappear as he gets back to his best.

Anyway, next up its FC Cologne in the Europa League and Wenger has confirmed he’ll be selecting a strong side. A premier league team will play he told the official site with the odd one or two getting a rest. One of those will be Francis Coquelin who somehow managed to injure himself yesterday..

Reading between lines it seems that a few things are happening with the structure of the club. Possibly Wenger’s tenure is not as safe as we might think. If the board is split and change is in the offing then all we can hope for is that things are not too disruptive and that they have the brains to avoid a similat scenario to United post Fergusson.

My thoughts on Wenger have mainly been criticism of his bizarre tactics , team selection and his intransigence when it comes to combatting other teams playing styles. I think this last contract is in fact a length of rope to give him a chae to hang himself.

  2. allezkev says:

Yeah Rico, I tend to agree, next summer, if not before, it’ll be announced that he’s leaving…

Bournemouth; 3 games, 3 defeats, was always gonna be a brief reprieve before Chelsea beat us and the shit-storm returns.

Cologne is neither here nor there in the grand scheme of things.

  3. rico says:

Afternoon Adam. I reckon so. Good too.

Unless he walks Kev, maybe the agreement is the summer. I keep that in my mind so I remain positive, or hopeful… 😉

  4. allezkev says:

Yes Rico, we have to remain optimistic, there simply has to be an end to all this inertia…

I think you or some others have recently commented that previously you’d felt sorry for him, but that sympathy has drained away, it certainly has for me

  5. rico says:

Mine has too Kev. I just want to see him gone now and this club moves forward.

Just watched extended highlights, good to see Welbeck in form. Just hope he can stay fit for most of the season..

  6. Joaquim Moreira says:

    good performance yesterday
Koln next. Difficult but at home we must collect the 9 points. Away, in Beograd and Barisov are terrible environments. Above all in Beograd…
Gazidis is moving to Conley? Is not close Watford Stadium? This is good. Marco Silva could be our next coach.

  7. Malaga gooner says:

    Afternoon Rico and the house

    Nice post Rico

I thought we played well yesterday.
I think we finally have a forward in lacazette that can find the back of the net

  8. allezkev says:

Reading all the apologists in the Press banging on about keeping Liverpool’s 5-0 hammering in ‘context’ just as they would if it was the Scum just sums the double standards they peddle.

That doesn’t excuse Arsenal’s continued underachievement but maybe that’s the context we should consider when reading those Press tossers digging us out.

  9. Kk says:

My previous comment went bust ?

    Afternoon rico and all.

3 goals and clean sheet always welcome. .
    Lacaz goal was superb. .

Pleased for welbeck. .he still has to work on his finishing. .I can’t think of anyone who could have helped him in that department if wenger allowed him to coach at the club!

I still think our midfield is weak and unbalanced. .
ramsey or ozil ..should be one of them and not both. .especially in big games.

Looking forward to the Cologne game not so to the one at the bridge…

Good luck gnarlygeorge hopefully you do better than your fellow countryman ?

  10. rico says:

    Afternoon Kk..

Thought Welbecks second was tasty too. Looks like he’s building up a bit of confidence after being injured for so long.

Agree on Ramsey/Ozil. I know I’ve said it before but I think Elneny gives us more, or perhaps just something different.

  11. Le Coq Monster says:

Afternoon all and thanks El Rico.

They both may be distasteful to most on here,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and possibly every where, but I had to laugh ………………………

Piers Morgan has claimed that Jose Mourinho told him he had ‘no idea’ how Arsene Wenger is still Arsenal manager in a private conversation this summer.

The Gunners had a woeful start to the 2017/18 campaign, losing two of their first three games in the Premier League, but Wenger’s men stormed to a 3-0 victory over Bournemouth this weekend to lift spirits at the club.

Manchester United, meanwhile, are top of the English top flight after three wins from four matches and Mourinho’s side are already being tipped for the title after four years without success in the league.

Wenger agreed a new two-year deal at the Emirates back in May and it appears Mourinho cannot believe the Frenchman is still in charge in north London.

‘I feel so sorry for you Arsenal fans. I have some very good friends who love Arsenal like you do and they are just as depressed as you about the club. They suffer so badly, it is a terrible thing to observe,’ Daily Mail columnist Morgan claims Mourinho told him during chance meeting in Harrods this summer.

Morgan adds that Mourinho then laughed told him he had ‘no idea’ how Wenger was still in the job at Arsenal.

He writes: ‘Mourinho then burst out laughing. “Terrible… hahahahaha.”

‘”How the hell is Arsene Wenger still in his job?” I [Morgan] asked. “No idea,” Mourinho smirked, “but I hope he stays in it for a very long time…”

  12. Le Coq Monster says:

Both speak the truth though and they make the headlines where we as minnow fans dont. Without the celebrity Wenger and Kroenke Outing they will be here forever !………………………we could really do with The Queen having Wenger Out shaved on her puppies……………………….obviously, I mean her Corgis 😆

  13. Bob John says:

LCM I would hardly say Moronho speaks the truth. You only have to listen to him after a game! I have this wish for Arsene to punch his lights out on the touchline before walking away from football

  14. allezkev says:

Interesting that none of those tossers in the Press, who’ve spent all summer blowing smoke up the arse of Liverpool, and celebrated heartily when Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain joined Klopps wunder team failed to mention that 10 man Liverpool were losing 2-0 when Perrie Edwards squeeze entered the fray at the Etihad and played like he usually did for us, basically shit, and Liverpool conceded 3 more goals.

    How we all laughed…

  15. allezkev says:

Looking forward to Thursday, a competition that Arsenal have a chance of enjoying some success in…..

I’m under no illusions of where we are in the EPL, already 3 points adrift on Chelsea, by next weekend that could be 6.

4 points behind Man City and Man Utd, which could be 7 in a few days and I know that there is a long way to go and there’s CL games etc, blah blah blah, but we’ve been here before so many times so I’ve accepted that we’re already fighting for 4th spot with the Spuds and Der Wunder Team, so I’m more focused on what we can realistically win.

  16. allezkev says:

Morning Scott, intrigued to see what team Arsene picks for Thursday with the Chelsea game to come a few days later?

Wilshere, Holding, BFG, Nelson, Walcott, there’s a bit of rotation to do methinks.

  17. Le Coq Monster says:

Morning Adonis Kev of the six pack fingers. 😆

Yes, cant wait for the EL, although I`m not worried about winning it as it is like the League Cup for me , a no stress competition to hopefully watch and enjoy some younsters blooded ……..

  18. Le Coq Monster says:

Wish Arsenal would show all our U23 games live on Arsenal Player instead of just the odd one and cant see no reason why as all the games are recorded and edited for highlights so they have all the footage !

  19. Le Coq Monster says:

So who will play ?……………………Wilshere, Holding, BFG, Nelson, Walcott, Nketiah, Willock, Ospina, Giroud, Iwobi, Maitland-Niles, Debauchery, Jeff, Chambers , Elneny , Akpom and save the rest for Sunday

  20. gnarleygeorge9 says:

    Scott

There is a Yellow & Black tsunami expected to hit Melbourne on GF day. Your Swans won’t want to get in it’s way?

I won’t be surfing the wave though, I’ll be in North London that day watch the dismantling of Brighton.

    Evening all

  21. Le Coq Monster says:

El Ricco…………..all the above are in our 1st team squad apart from Nketiah, Willock and Nelson , but they are in EL squad, so in theory Wenger would be playing mostly 1st teamers, although not 1st choicers………………

  22. Le Coq Monster says:

Ain`t seen you in Launceston , Gnarley……………………I`ve been looking for some drunk in a hat with dangling corks !
    😆

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

I know, Kev, but how do I compete with someone who constantly exercises his fingers giving signals………………..aka, the Uber workout !
    🙂

  24. ScottfromOz says:

    Kev,
Part of our amusement and intrigue of late is seeing what side Arsene will roll out 🙂 🙂
GG, last week, that tsunami was (apparently) red and black, and we saw how that ended 🙂
If Arsene really cares about the Europa League, we would just about win it.

  25. Le Coq Monster says:

“Anyone give The Arse a chance against the chavs?”………………………I can safely say for the rest of this doom and gloom site………………………….we have no chance !………hahaha…………………………………..actually, I feel a record EPL away score coming up with hattricks from Alexis, Welbeck and 4 from The Cassette ! 🙂

  26. Wavy says:

At least at Palace they know when their manager is underperforming and sack him toute suite!
Shame our board don’t,have the same set of bollocks! And man up and remove our underperforming, article.

  27. Le Coq Monster says:

Just been listening to a podcast…..The Arsenal Opinion…………. on LegOver with Tim Payton of AST…………..lots about Kroenke, Gazidis, Ornstein, how much we had to spend in TW, TV rights, etc` etc`……………………..

  28. micko says:

What you talking about rico, he had 62 days to get it right……cop yourself on.

Champions League footie tomorrow, Manure vs Basel, weren’t we only playing them last season, Elneny must be kicking himself……stupid boy !

  29. potter says:

De Boer suffered from the player power of the dressing room. He inherited a group of players that are comfortable being well paid for doing just enough. To change the club to the mould of Ajax needed the players to be interested and I doubt they were and it is rumoured that they went behind his back to the chairman and got him out. Probably they will get the standard English type manager ( Hodgson ? ) and scramble their way to survival , take the money and sit back and cheat their fans.

  30. Meerkat says:

Yep Hodgson coming out of the woodwork. He must be down to his last few £million compo from the FA;-)

    Roy…apparently he’s “raring to go”

De Boer was brought in to turn Crystal Meths into Barcelona Selhurst Park – instantaneously.
The Owner was surprised that after four games he had failed in his mission, so he’s been sacked and world-class Roy appointed.
That’s the bootiful game for ya, the management merry-go-round, ‘arry, fat spam, Pulis, Warnock, to name but a few, every one’s a winner.

  31. ScottfromOz says:

Wasn’t De Boer a popular name amongst us who’d do much better than Arsene?
Hands up who said so 🙂 🙂
    Morning all.
Player power is a joke, but it’s been created by agents, and magnified by fans.
Still, how many fans will criticise yet admit to being wrong?
De Boer-don’t be shy, boys and girls 🙂

  32. potter says:

I would have considered him Scott, I still would. He is possibly a good fit for Arsenal with the style of players that we have. The ones at Palace however are either not of the same on the ball ability or not willing to learn new tricks. They have been a defensive set up with fast breaks for many years, actually passing the ball and holding possesion , building from the back , not their style.

  33. Lee says:

After that comprehensive, crushing victory at the weekend how could you consider anyone else to take Arsenal on to greatness?

  34. rico says:

I’d have been happy had de Boer replaced Wenger but then right now, I’d be happy if Tony Pulis replaced him. It’s not that they are better than Wenger, although the latter would sort out our defending, but they’d just be a fresh face and the controller would be gone…

  35. Lee says:

I’d be happy with Bubbles at the helm…he might play players in their correct positions and be able to do a zip up! ?

  36. ScottfromOz says:

    Hi Potter,
so would i, to be honest, and I agree he’d be a decent fit for us.
What moronic owner/club would sack a guy after 4 games?
Still, it just shows that managing is not as simple a job as the pundits and lounge chair experts think.
It has to be the right fit, and as you say, De Boer quite obviously wasn’t that.
It does highlight the fact that most Arsenal fans who “know” that we can do better than Arsene can not just throw up a name, see him succeed and rub our noses in it, because plenty told De Boer would kill it.
If only there were no owners, player agents, parents and players themselves to deal with, management would be a straight forward gig.
    We’d all do it 🙂
Well, plenty do, every day of the the season on the net lol

  37. ScottfromOz says:

Surely, as Arsenal fans, we’d really only want change for the sake of improvement, as did Crystal Palace when they sacked a manager, replaced him with De Boer, then sacked De Boer and so on and so forth lol

  38. rico says:

Not me, I just want him gone. Then Ivan can get his DoF which we desperately need, the power Wenger holds is removed and the club is free to push forward…

  39. Adam says:

Rico. The whole management and footballing structure at the club might change after Wenger. Any top manager would demand his own people. If the club was sold it would certainly happen from top to bottom. Then we might see something really different.

  40. ScottfromOz says:

But Rico, isn’t that what I’ve said for ages now?
    Nobody agreed with me 🙂
It was all about Wenger, yet thankfully, things are changing and people realise Stan must go.
