It’s what makes Arsenal special…

Morning all.

There’s a lot going on in the real world, but as far as Arsenal goes, it’s pretty quiet. AMN is failing in Italy under Mourinho, if the sports headlines are to believed but Lucas Torreria is expected to stay where he is beyond the summer. Italy loves him and he loves Italy. Goodie.

At Arsenal though, Aaron Ramsdale and David Seaman have teamed up to help promote a local business. Personally, I think the advert for The Chip Inn on the Holloway Road is awful but hey, if it helps an Arsenal fan keep his business thriving, then so be it.

Talking about his experience of working with Arsenal, Murat Gokmen, who  bought the Chip Inn two years ago, said:

Arsenal really means a lot to me. I grew up locally and went to Holloway School. I played football in the JVC centre, supported the Gunners and the goal of every kid was to get to the school cup finals when you’d get to play on the Highbury pitch. Arsenal is just such a big part of the area and I’m really proud that another part of the community, the Chip Inn, now has that association with Arsenal.

The campaign has been brilliant. Working with the Arsenal staff – I’m actually amazed that so many of them seem to have been coming to the chip shop for so many years – and of course filming the video, which was an amazing experience. Aaron was such a down to earth guy, he seemed to love being part of it, just like David Seaman did, what a great guy. We couldn’t have had a better experience.

Vinai Venkatesham said that Arsenal as a club want to help the local community and businesses. The club listened to what their needs are, awareness being the big one. Unsurprisingly really after the last two years of dealing with the knock on effects of  The Chip Inn advert is just one of many we can expect to see over the next few months. If you want to see Ramsdale and Seaman in the advert, it’s on Arsenal.com.

I don’t know if other football clubs help out local businesses or the community but I do think this kind of thing shows class. As does the club working with the LGBGT+ community and making it easy for football fans to report any kind abuse securely online.

Maybe that’s why other football fans, media, referees etc don’t like the club. Because we as a club tend to do things the right way. Away from the pitch anyway. There’s a lot of work still to be done as far as the squad goes and the football we play but as far as clubs go, we’re not bad are we?

See you in the comments.

Back in the Wenger days Ramsdale would have been suspended for even setting foot in a chippy , all that fried food .
Still i suggest that the food served up by the chip inn is probably more wholesome and definitely cheaper than the stuff served up inside the ground.

The chanting at the games is much less offensive than it used to be, but there are still some fans that throw out some obnoxious phrases at every game. It’s hard to get rid of that.

I find it strange that there are hardly any openly gay footballers. There must be a significant proportion of gay players in the EPL. If one top player came out, like Ronaldo, I’m sure the situation would change very quickly.

I don’t think this country will ever rid itself of the ”ist’s/ism’s” because there is always someone passing his/her thoughts onto the next generation.

Certainly not in my generation anyway.

Nice post Rico, I quite enjoyed the advert, I bet they had a right laugh making it and it reflects really positively on the club.

Not much coming out today, the Presser seem concerned about the Arteta contract scenario, something we had on a regular basis with Wenger and Arteta said some complementary things about Wolves. All fairly innocuous stuff, gives the journos some guff to write about but the squad knows the importance of this game, we have to win.

Hi Rico.. I loved the advert, really made me chuckle. I’ve not been in that chippy, usually go to The Little Wonder. May head there [next match] just to hold my chips aloft haha..

Yes, Pete – my son was sat next to one during our last game ☹

Good, I’m glad the club are supporting our gay gooners.. it shouldn’t matter what sexuality you are, however, to some it does. I can see why some [players] are reluctant to come out though, I’ve heard awful stuff said about gay people – 2 members of my family are gay – so it’s quite upsetting!

We’re on Amazon tomorrow. Was just reading about Martin Atkinson and how he’s given us more cards than any other team [surprise, surprise]… and IF Wolves win, I reckon they’ll go over the top with their celebrations!! Much riding on it, I hope we turn up!

Hi Sue. All cameras on Atkinson then! Who are the commentators on Amazon, any idea?

I too can understand why players don’t come out and why should they, knowing full well they’ll be targeted by some of the thugs/idiots in the stadium. Poor old Sol used to get abuse wherever he went.

Funny really, I thought people went to the games to see football….

What I find odd is how football and rugby fans are gulfs apart in the way they support their team/country.

I only know of Ally McCoist and Matthew Upson, Rico..

I believe some only go home feeling satisfied after having hurled abuse at someone all afternoon, Rico – makes me sick! Can you honestly imagine some poor sod taking a throw-in having just ‘come out’… he’d be slaughtered! I’m not saying all fans behave this way, but those idiots have a way of making their voices heard..

You’re not wrong there, Rico. The Rugby fans have class….

  8. Pete the Thirst says:

That’s a shame, Sue. It makes the game a really hard watch with an idiot bellowing bile in your ear the whole game.

A guy I know got another Arsenal fan thrown out for persistent racist chanting. The guy that was thrown out used to be a regular on AFTV!
