Is Arsene Wenger back? Utd blown away in twenty minutes….

Morning all.

Where to start after that weekend of Premier League football?

Man City had a great result, Aguero was on fire. Mourinho had to sit and watch his side get a battering by Southampton, Liverpool dropped two points against Everton and promptly sacked their manager and Dick Advocaat decided enough was enough and jumped on the first plane back to Holland leaving Sunderland managerless. Harry Kane scored a ‘goal of the season’ into his own net……

Hectic eh…

At the end of all of it, Anthony Taylor blew his whistle at 4pm yesterday afternoon and off we went.

Before the game, we fans had no idea which Arsenal would turn up but I honestly expected a very different game to what we witnessed just a few days before. Arsene Wenger was clearly angry after Tuesday, his press conference was feisty and he demanded more from his players during training on Wednesday morning.

Boy didn’t he get it. The fans were alive, so were the players!

Twenty minutes in and the game was all but over…

Cazorla and Coquelin were bossing the midfield. Walcott and Alexis were in and at the defence, Ozil was smiling too which is always good. At the back, there was nothing to trouble us. Every player wanted the ball, they were usually first to it too and Utd didn’t like it. They certainly couldn’t cope with it…

Our passing was accurate, quick, decisive. Our pace leaving Utd players stranded, as did the way we moved the ball around the pitch.

Ramsey to Ozil, Ozil with a ball to the near post, Alexis with a cheeky back heel. De Gea left stranded and beaten….

Minutes later another superb goal arrived. Alexis with a cheeky back-heel to Ozil. Ozil to Walcott who played a perfectly weighted ball back to the German. Ozil, with the left side of the goal gaping, fired home with perfection.

2-0 and The Emirates was buzzing. So was my living room!

image

The third and final goal was again from Alexis and what a belter it was.  A quick ball played to Walcott who spotted Alexis out wide. Alexis wriggled his way into a shooting position to fire high and wide of De Gea with ease. Stunning!

LvG made changes at half-time with Fellaini coming on and I’m not sure how he stayed on the pitch. Pushing, shoving, you name it, he tried it and even hurling abuse at the referee didn’t earn him a booking. Taylor had an odd game, he started strong but as the game went on, he let Utd get away with a bit too much imo, especially having booked Coquelin, allowed Carrick to get away with an almost identical foul just seconds later…

Utd

The second half wasn’t quite as entertaining as the first as Arsenal took their foot of the gas a bit but instead, what we saw was a disciplined defensive display as Utd enjoyed a bit more possession, although threatened very little. In fact we continued to have the better chances on the break.

When Petr Cech was called into action which wasn’t very often, he showed just why Arsene Wenger was so keen to sign him. The best was from a Martial shot late in the first half keeping the score at a very important 3-0 and another at the feet of Schweisteiger later in the game….

Theo Walcott made way for Ollie around 75 minutes and left the pitch to a standing ovation. Deserved too as he had an outstanding game. The sliding tackle on Schweisteiger in the first half showed how determined his was to perform his defensive duties. His hold up play has improved and his pace caused the Utd defence concern and uncertainty.

Alexis and Ozil were also substituted to rapturous applause and rightly so. Another great performance from our little tiger and Ozil was on top form. He could so easily have had a second goal. Looks like our Chilean picked up a slight injury which could see him miss out for his country.

The back five were solid, one little blip from Gabriel but it was so small, it mattered not. For the rest of the game he was strong and solid. As were Monreal and Bellerin.. Mertesacker had a couple of moments but even then, either Gabriel or Cech were there to mop up.

As for Santi and Coquelin, superb, Ramsey too had a good game. In fact they all did.

So too did the manager who deserves a lot of praise after what has been a difficult week both on and off the pitch. The selection was perfect, the game plan executed. Good to see you back Arsene, I hope it’s not a ‘one off’.

3-0 at the end but we had many chances to make that scoreline bigger and it’s a great shame we couldn’t take them as not only would that have been much sweeter, but utterly deserved. Ramsey, Ozil and Giroud had the better ones. Oxlade-Chamberlain was unlucky the bar got in the way right at the end.

I was listening to the Sky Sports pundits after the game, unusual I know but Carragher said something sensible for a change. If by some miracle we get 3rd in the CL group and end up in Europe, play the squad players. Not the fringe players with one or two of the first team either, but the entire team full of squad/under 21 players who all need playing time to keep them match fit and ready to come in if needed. Then leave the first 11/14 to really go for the league.

Our performances so often improve after we exit the Champions League so why not go for it now. Forget Europe for this season and really challenge for the PL because on yesterdays evidence, this team really could win it…

International break now so lets just hope our boys get through unscathed…..

Have a good Monday guys…..

    morning rico and the house
    great summary
there’s nothing like a great win to start of the week, shame the international break is upon us
lets hope all our players come back in one piece

  2. Canadian Gooner says:

Good Morning to The Lady of the House and all fellow Gooners in residence.

Rico – A good summation of the game, which was the icing on the cake to a great weekend.

Chelski brought low once again by a feisty Southampton and Maureen Yo whining like a spoiled five year old as his team languish in 16th place. The Dippers held to a tie by the Toffees and Brenda gets canned. Harry Kane scores a mis-goal of the season contender. Arsenal tear ManUre a new one by putting three past them in the first 20 minutes and then turning game into a training session.

Other than Abu Dhabi Citeh winning, it was nearly the perfect weekend. Let the Good Times Roll!!!

  3. Marshall says:

Morning all! It’ll be a good day, a good week in fact. Per had talked aggression before the game and my didn’t we use it. I hope the guys keep it up.

Yes let’s avoid the Champions League ‘distraction’ and put all our chips in the pl. A hat trick of FA too would be nice. Kos, Sanchez would use the two weeks off to recover. Good day all.

  4. scottfromoz says:

    Rico, shame on you.
    Utterly terrible.
Alexis scored his first goal with a Rebona flick.
Well, so Sean tells me because I have no bloody idea what it was other than sensational 🙂
That performance was was just masterful, from start to finish.
There was not a single Arsenal player off his game, and your deception was perfect.
Our lads were just hungry and relentless.
    Simply awesome.
    Morning all.

  5. Brian Price says:

    Hi Rico,
We always seem to bounce back with a display like this, it’s just a pity that we have to endure the ‘down’ before we get an ‘up’,
If we do end up third in the CL, we could still win the Europa with the team that beat S***s plus Jack and Danny.

  6. Simon Ngulube says:

    Good afternoon everyone,

What a game….Wenger needed a little push ….and I can see at Arsenal it’s only the the fans who can do that….and they did just that n he came out tops yesterday…players did too. The fans were in it too…it was classic Arsenal. I love it.

    Great summary Ric…

    Have a great day guys

  7. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

Fine match report Rico. I enjoyed reading that.

But did it have to be Carragher who gets praise for saying that AW should use the Europa league for the under 21 players??? I have been saying that for years now. We never stood a chance of winning the damned thing and now is the same. So finish 3rd to go in the Europa league and use it to blood youngsters. Imagine, a team made up of Ospina, Chambers, Flamini and Campbell to give the youngsters experience……Bielik, Pleguezolo, Reine Adalaide, O’Connor, Willock, mavididi, Iwobi to name a few.

AW should have done it that way not this year but for the last three years minimum. That way players would have been used to help the squad.

  8. rico says:

Chicken or the egg Simon? Did the team raise the fans or did the fans raise the team? 😉

One thing for sure though, the players were up for up for the match from the off and it paid dividends…

  9. rico says:

Not at all re Carragher Devil, tbh many of us have questioned what the point of us being in the CL. Until we have a squad to win it, it’s just about the money imo…

Not praising him, just mentioning that for once he spoke sense…

  10. scottfromoz says:

Rico, I’m not even sure I spelt it correctly, but that’s what he told me lol.
He then showed me a few times.
All thes flicks, turns and twists have names and he can do them all.
Of course, the trick is knowing WHEN to do them, so hopefully he picks that up but ones things for certain, Alexis nailed it, whatever it was 🙂
    We really were phenomenal!!!!

  11. Lee says:

Speaking flicks and turns…..Ramsey fucked one up in the second half which led to a manure counter. Why oh why does he persist with these?

  12. Wavy says:

Good summary Rico. Isn’t nice to be able only to write positive and praiseworthy performances! Sadly it doesn’t happen quite often enough.
I agree with the Carragher comments, as Devil said its a shame he was the pundit to say what he did about the Europa cup and playing the children, it’s a shame because I think he’s a bit if a dip stick!
Anyway morning all or is it afternoon? I haven’t had my lunch yet so…..?

  13. Canadian Gooner says:

Rico – “…Not at all re Carragher Devil, tbh many of us have questioned what the point of us being in the CL. Until we have a squad to win it, it’s just about the money imo…”

Without a place in the UCL Arsenal will have trouble attracting the players we need to have that squad to win it. Unless, of course, we pay ridiculous prices and offer huge wages like Chelski, the Dippers and ManUre. It hasn’t worked out for them so far.

It is a fact of life these days. The aspiring and best players want to be playing against the best in the UCL. Teams also require the UCL revenue to be able to afford those players. Winning the BPL would be great, but if that is all the club aspire to, they will fail to attract the required players and ultimately fail to challenge even for the BPL.

Why do so many of the second tier teams in the BPL strive for one of the top four positions in the BPL? They want get on that gravy train so they can afford to improve their club and it’s team.

  14. andrewh1313 says:

Nice report rico, thank goodness we don’t go into the 2 week hiatus with a defeat. HH would not have been a happy place. Would still like to get into Watford while the players remember that performance. But a game to savour.

  15. rico says:

    Same here Scott…

Cg, I meant more after the group stage as we’ll never go much further until the squad is much deeper and stronger…

  16. rico says:

Watford away will be interesting Andrew, just hope the boys don’t approach the game like they did Zagreb or Olymipiacos… Somehow, I don’t think they will…

  17. Goonster says:

Seriously during the first half I must have jizzed like 20 fucking times. The football was out of this world. We totally annihilated the cnuts lee 😀 what a performance by theo. He was the peak of the bunch. I know sanchez ll get all the plaudits but theo was my man of the match by a mile. Take a bow son 😀

  18. Goonster says:

Can’t wait to watch it again on arsenal TV plus the breakdown by Adrian Clarke 😀 my god this feels better than sex 😀 come on you gunners 😀

  19. Goonster says:

Lee by a long shot. I was willing him to score shame he couldn’t bag himself a goal. That performance deserves a goal. His best game ever in an arsenal or England shirt. Heck his best game ever in his career 😀

  20. Nashua Gunner says:

    Good Afternoon Rico and All.
Interesting Read especially when we played such a beautiful football. And to top it all; it was against ManU.

Of late, it only three games I could remember we performed so well, FA Cup against ManU, Napoli and ManU yesterday.

It was like ten Alexis Sanchez (s) on the pitch. They loss the ball, the go after it. Even Theo was putting in a tackle. He was tracking back. No selfishness in any player, but all worked for the common goals of the team.

What caught my attention was Gabriel shouting orders to others to clear the ball from the backline. Just wait when Gabriel get his english in order, he will be the captain. He has that ‘no-fool-around’ attitude.

  21. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good afternoon Lovelies and Hunkies.

NG….that thought occurred to me as well. Gabriel will soon be AFC captain once he learns his English. Him or Coquelin would do. Both have the drive and desire to win plus the never say die attitude.

  22. Wavy says:

I noticed that the poisoned Pygmy has had the “vote of confidence” from the chavski board! We all know what that means, that the vote of “no confidence” will follow shortly after his next poor result. And the sooner the better. He needs deporting asap!

  23. Lee says:

Who would you rather have Matic or Coquelin? Latter for me all day long, Wenger saved Arsenal a few million £ by recalling Le Coq!

  24. Hell Raising Devil says:

Why not both Lee?? Matic and Le Coq as well. They alternate according to matches and in certain matches both of them play in the same game. Better alternative than Flamini and Arteta for sure.

  25. Madhav - Indian Gunner says:

    Nice post Rico…

I was one of the many fans, who was waiting for Arsenal to rip Man U… We were so Happy during yesterday’s match… Seeing the first 30 mins performance, we thought more goals will come… Even though we had chances, Rambo & Ox couldn’t convert it… But the end point is, We’re back… The attacking football we played yesterday was majical along with the required Defensive play…

  26. Joe says:

Afternoon all great read Rico I enjoyed yesterdays result a lot 🙂
Watched the match at home with my man utd surporting daughter, after I let out a yell of delight when Sanchez’s 2nd goal went in I was told to shut up.
Also at half time the was a slight door slam I feel like I enjoyed her disappointment to much 😉

  27. trugun says:

The answer to your headline question is he never went away. I see this site don’t change much still plenty of ***** that think they can do a better job than Wenger, Fifa player has a lot to answer for.

  28. Joe says:

Talk about been upstaged hammer man utd and it’s all about Liverpool sacking their manager John Henry must really hate Stan. 🙂

  29. Joaquim Moreira says:

De Gea was called into action maybe at the 60th minute.
Europa League have many good teams.
Like I predicted, the team gave a very good answer.
As I said, Arsenal did not address the Champions League games properly. A theoretically affordable group can become complicated when it is faced with opponents who have a more soft championship, are comfortable position in the classification of their championships and are unbelievably motivated to play in the Champions League, well prepared and willing to make a “beacon” when facing the best teams. His participation is already a prize.

  30. allezkev says:

    Afternoon All…

Trugun, thanks for adding nothing to the debate…

Don’t forget to pop in again soon, and give more pearls of your ******* wisdom…

  31. allezkev says:

Coach, do you know anything about Nolito?

Sounds like another agent inspired rumour, with a new contract the aim…

  32. rico says:

    Evening all…

Trugun, you been asleep since 2006??

Kev, young, a year out with injury, that rumour sounds like it has legs… 😉

    Feeeeooooo was awesome….

  33. rico says:

There’s always the extreme and I think that’s what is so sad. Reading around the blogs today it seems the ‘WOB’ can’t find it in their hearts to give the manager any credit. When nights like Tuesday unfold, the ‘AKB’ can see little wrong…

But some of us, those who have respect for all AW has done, but can see times are troubled and have been for a while, the daggers are thrown…

In my heart of hearts, I truly wish that yesterday could be the start of a new era, the players wake up and play properly each game, the media have no choice but to leave AW alone and we go on a great run….

But what is so sad is, I know I’ve typed that before. Too many times…..

    Yet……

  34. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Hi Kev

Trugun….do you suffer from amnesia? Or do you forget that you suffer from it as well?

Kev, Nolito has a good scoring record of 1 in around 3 games. He has also played for the spanish national team. He can be a good addition but at 29 this October I would not pay more than 10 million for him. Imo I would rather go for a younger player in the 24 year old span. I would prefer a Gabriel type unknown. then again, if Nolito comes for less than 10 million I would go for him. He can play on both wings and is around 5ft 9ins.

Would he add to the squad??? We have Sanchez, DW23, OX and Iwobi. Imo I would prefer Iwobi to stay and we do not get Nolito.

  35. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
Trugun, some offer criticism then run.
Some offer criticism then stick around and debate.
That’s how I started and I’m still here several years later because I realised I was wrong.
You won’t even see this because we know what you chose, so bye bye.
Stan/Lee, I have to agree….Theo was superb and proved he can lead the line.
Not to try and put a negative on it, but he’s got to show consistency now, as does the team I guess.
Gabriel as skipper, why not, at some point but I could definitely see Coquelin doing the job.
He has passion and is a talker.
UTD fans all over the world truly are In Shock.

  36. potter says:

There are always people like Trugun that creep out of the woodwork and strut their stuff on the back of good results. What they don’t appreciate and possibly don’t understand is the knifedge that we are running on.You would have thought that they would realise the dangers of our traditional injury list If we play our top 15 players we will hardly ever get beaten. Which is fine until they break down and we are forced to play the lesser ones, one or two of whom we can carry. Any more and we are in Webber parlance short.

  37. allezkev says:

Thanks Coach, seems that Celta Vigo are looking to flog him before his value falls through the floor.

And the player himself probably sees this as his last chance of a big pay day…

I’m not sure that I’d pay £14m for a 29 year old, or even €14m…

I reckon about €8m top whack

  38. Dublingunner says:

Evening all, Yesterdays performance great as it was, all but cements my utter annoyance and frustration at AW, All yesterday did for me was build anger at why we did not strengthen. Credit where it,s due the team turned up yesterday, Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott, and Cech were imo fantastic, and to see theo slide-tackling, at the center circle brought butterflies to my stomach, of what could be if we performed like that every match, but what must not be lost is Aug, September, only the first 2 months of the season is just over. and I refuse to get excited, as I know we have not got the squad to sustain these performances throughout a full season, eventually players will dip in and out of form, and what we can bring on from the bench, to me will become our misdemeanour and downfall. I,ve always said we have it within our grasp to challenge for the title, provided AW see,s beyond he,s refusal to accept market value, stubbornness and ego and unfortunately his refusal to act in this T.W could be to the detriment of our abilities to make that final push in March,April,May. I suppose my point is, Piers Morgan, who some people don,t like, but I think makes a lot of sense, said it best yesterday when he said AW will win many battles but ultimately will not win the war.

  39. Silky says:

    Wat a game!!!!!!
    Watched it with my Utd fan brother haha never enjoyed a game as much in my life! Was hoping to rightly do em 6 7 8, but on reflection I rather enjoyed the 70 minute kick about that followed! Gabriel is gonna b a superstar wat a boss! Would love us to go in for Mane in Jan, his goal the other nite was amazeballs pushing the cretin Terry out of the way boom fucker o n imagine;

    Theo

    Alexis Ozil Mane

    Ramsey Le Coq

    Unfucking playable

  40. Micko says:

We’re all just passing through kev, let’s be honest if Arsene was a ghost he wouldn’t frighten ya !!!

  41. allezkev says:

l Arteta coached Arsenal U16s today. Definitely seems to be gearing towards a coaching career once he retires.
    8:30 PM – 5 Oct 2015

    From Jeorge Bird

  42. Marshall says:

Canadian Goober if I may, us dropping out of UCL for just one season won’t make us not attractive to top players. If we did drop out and go ahead and win the pl I think we’d be in a strong position to attract WC players since we’d already have qualified for next season’s UCL…. Then Webber can go ahead and win the damn thing on his last year as the manager.

  43. Wavy says:

Last year. For Webber? I don’t think so!
What’s he got ar home? Zilch!
What would he have to get up for? Zilch!
What has he got now? A football club!
What can he do with it? Anything he wants!
Is it the perfect job? I think so!
    Will he retire? No!
Will they carry him out of the Emirates or London Colmey? Probably!
Has he got a job for life, until death do us part? Almost certainly. Yes!
Do I have a problem with his future? No, probably not!
Will he be a winner? Bloody hell I hope so!

Watford next. Will be up for it? Who the f*** knows?
And thereby poses the problem that is Arsenal!

    Nite all

  44. scottfromoz says:

    Morning all.
Kev, it’s true……one big happy family bud.
    Even families argue though 🙂
Marshall, Liverpool and Tottenham still attract top players, and they don’t even know where Europe is.
Ok, they don’t know what to do with those players, but money attracts the best so they still get quality footballers.
Wavy, I believe the payers finally stood up for Wenger.
Maybe they should appreciate what they have…..they’re the ones who made the difference, not Arsene.

  45. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Morning Lovelies and Hunkies.

I know why we thrashed Manure last Sunday…….three of their defenders were small, young and blind.

Rico is right. Size does matter. An inexperience as well especially if one is young and is led by a blind person.

  46. scottfromoz says:

    Devil,
    How are ya champion?
    What a fortnight ahead.
Seriously, anyone wishing the interlull wasn’t upon is is kidding themselves…..we have TWO WHOLE WEEKS to gloat hahahahaha

  47. rico says:

    Morning all..

The only good thing about this international break is Alexis and Kos have time to heal…

But I’d much rather we were heading off to Watford this Sunday with confidence high….

I hate the boring international break….

  48. tsgh says:

Kev- I heard Arteta contributes to sessions with the seniors sometimes too…

Rico- I mentioned a few days back that AS17 was playing in the red… from some data I came across. its good that he ‘may’ have done a ‘Gibbs’ and pulled a fast one out of international duty. 😉

    Morning Rico and all…

  49. scottfromoz says:

    Pundits are bloody idiots.
They’re praising Ozil, saying he should play this way more often.
Next sentence, they’re saying how good Arsenals movement off the ball was.
    HEEEEEELLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!
When there is Movement off the ball, we play well.
When there is movement off the ball, Ozil finds them.
    Who pays these dickheads??
