International defender deal close. Arsene Wenger confirms a busy transfer window but will it be for him?

Morning all.

The music world has been shocked and deeply saddened this morning after the passing of David Bowie was announced. I’m stunned, he was part of my growing up, he was Mr Music when I was a kid and his voice will be missed by millions.

Apparently he was spotted in Surrey early New Year enjoying a curry with his family, yet he took time to serenade other diners. What a guy, what a loss….

David Bowie

RIP big man, they certainly don’t come much bigger than you….

Football doesn’t seem important this morning but it goes on….

The FA Cup draw takes place around 7pm tonight so we’ll know who awaits us in the next round and as long as the fixture is at home, I reckon we’ll be happy.

Then on Wednesday, Arsenal go to Anfield to face a Liverpool side struggling more than us with injuries. According to ‘The Physio Room’ – eleven of their players are on the treatment table.

J Ibe
P Coutinho
D Lovren
M Sakho
J Henderson
D Origi
M Skrtel
J Rossiter
D Sturridge
D Ings
J Gomez

That makes our injury list look pretty good, however, Arsene Wenger believes that some of the Liverpool injured will make a miraculous recovery before kick off.

Don’t worry! Arsene is a very good doctor! They always heal when they play against us!

I wonder if he’ll be right.

The manager also confirmed a new deal for Nacho Monreal is pretty much done which is great news. I feared he might fancy a return to Spain but clearly not which is only good for Arsenal as left-backs as good as Nacho are hard to find.

As for this transfer window:

I would say for the media you could have some good news this January transfer window as I believe many clubs will be active. You go from the clubs down in the table to the top.

My prediction is that it could be one of the most active January windows you have seen.

Well so far this month, the transfer activity has been pretty quiet. A few clubs have snapped up one or two players but the most exciting for me right now is Benik Afobe’s move to Bournemouth. When you look at our squad and see Yaya Sanogo amongst the players names, you have to wonder why Afobe was never given a chance by Arsene Wenger. I really hope the young guy does well at his new club and bags himself lots of goals, just not against Arsenal.

The never ending saga of Elneny should be finalised this week but he’s not enough imo and if the manager’s prediction about this month being one of the most active winter transfer windows ever, I hope he means for him. Arsene Wenger doesn’t often get busy in January but lets hope this is the one in which he does…

That’s your lot today guys….

I hope AW’s comments about being busy relate to Arsenal and not just every other club. We need to push on and get this league won….

    Morning All

    Morning Rico

Very sad news about David Bowie.
What I find notable about him was the fact that he seemed a really nice guy, a showman yes, but quite humble and not self obsessed…

I was never an enormous fan but I did like and get Starman and Jean Genie, the singles, 45’s that is, ‘records’ – for the youngsters out there like Wavy and Potter.

  3. allezkev says:

I had a couple of mates, workmates in the Post Office, who were massive Bowie fans.
I remember in particular, when the album Diamond Dogs came out, they never stopped talking about it…

The music we grow up with is, how does it go, is the signpost of your life…

    Good Morning lovelies and hunkies.

very sad news about David Bowie. Now he is free to sing again with my favourite singer…Freddie Mercury.

Good Morning Kev. I agree with your assessment of David Bowie. He was a showman but seemed to shun the limelight. And yes……he was humble.

Are we going to get in someone else after Elneny??? Krychoiwiak?? Bender? Aubemayang?? Insigne???? Nobo Dy???

  5. rico says:

    Certainly is Kev.

Agree re Freddie Devil, another of my favourites, and another taken far too early…

I still hope for two, three if Debuchy goes…

  6. Hell Raising Devil says:

if Debuchy goes do not worry. AW will not worry for sure…..he has Flamini and Chambers who can play there if the need arises.

but I still think AW will get another besides Elneny.

    My preference??? KRYCHOWIAK

  7. Hell Raising Devil says:

But I feel that Krychowiak’s ship has sailed. I feel that its Elneny and Rabiot who will come.

Those two will give us a very strong midfield for the remainder of this season and the next…….Coquelin, Cazorla, Aaron, Elneny, Rabiot, Wilshere (???)

I also feel that next season will see the OX play more and also be Ozil’s sub. He was very good in the FACup.

  8. Wavy says:

Devil, Nobo Dy seems to have a good c.v. We are likely to get him, I feel!

Bowie, aka the laughing gnome! What a start to an illustrious career! I wasn’t a huge fan, either but, I did recognise he had a gift. At the time he was a bit too glam rock for my eccentric tastes in music. I had a fondness for Pink Floyd and other ‘psychedelic’ music, mostly from the U.S.A. Electric Prunes anybody? I ramble…….Had a flat full of mates who were in love with and worshipped Ziggy Stardust, but I never was a sheep! Sad loss to the music world he was an innovator of huge accomplishment and success. May his music live on.

Not sure 2 players are coming in this January.

With MA08, and TR07 nearing fitness, only 1 central midfielder will come in for JW as he won’t be ready for Feb/March…

    Afternoon Rico and all…

  10. Hell Raising Devil says:

I feel it will be Elneny and Rabiot who come in. Remember, in summer, MA,TR and MF will be off. So they will have to be replaced.

  11. tsgh says:

Indeed Rico. but you know the how the story pans out…
My comment yesterday showing our points tally after 19/20 games indicates that where we finish in May is 90% dependent on how our rival(s) (Shitty) in particular perform between now and end of March.

Since 2003 we have always averaged 40 points around this time of the season, but we have ended up finishing up to 13 points behind eventual winners because we are unable to cope during the UCL period.

Afternoon rico, house. Good words about Bowie rico, Five Years and Time will always have a place in my heart. Had hoped for action in TM well before now, but then again ….

    Afternoon All…

A question for all HH’ers residing in the UK.

I want to get WiFi and want to pick your brains…

Who do you get your WiFi from?

    Are they any good?

    Would you recommend them?

Do you wish you had gone with another provider?
    Who and why?

    Thanks AK

  14. rico says:

That’s why I think he might replace them now Devil. If he really wants the PL, he can’t rely on Flamini, Arteta and Chambers every now and then. Chambers really struggled on Saturday imo.

If Arteta was 2/3 years younger then great but sadly he isn’t…

Ts, at some stage the story has to pan out a different way and there’s so much at stake right now imo.

  15. andrewh1313 says:

Kev, Sky for me now as in a package. Tried many, most have at least partial Indian call centers like BT and Talk Talk, but Sky has mainly Scottish which is just about ok. Liverpool would be worst!
Plusnet quite good but bit dearer.

  16. potter says:

If you go with BT there is always the football.I had no end of problems with Orange but the way they all keep merging it doesn’t leave many options.

Regarding Bowie Star man , Life on Mars and major Tom. Space obsessed or just spaced out.

  17. Hell Raising Devil says:

    Good Evening Lovelies and Hunkies.

Burnley at home is a good tie as well. Maybe Iwobi and Reine Adelaide will get to play as well.

    Who died today???? David Bowie

Who scored last weekend???? yep. you guessed it…..Aaron Ramsey.

  18. BT62 Gooner says:

Ts, i knew you would be lurking, it’s so easy to get you to break cover……lol

Don’t remember saying “i hate stats” or that i believe Ramsey is a hex, that’s your assumption, what’s the stats for that……lol

  19. allezkev says:

    Morning All

    Morning Rico

    Barnsley (h)…
Good chance to rest and rotate…
More game time for Iwobi and Jeff..?
    Willock even?

  20. scottfromoz says:

    Morning Kev.
It’s a very soft draw, but we still need to out out a decent side, if not a great one, so a few kids mixed with big guns will work.
Keep this in mind……when Alexis and a few others come back, they’ll cop more work because they’ve had a decent spell, so we have no excuse not to finish the season strongly.

  21. tsgh says:

With all the rubbish transfer rumours around, the consolidation is Afobe finally getting the chance to play in the EPL. I loved watching him, Conor Henderson, JW, Frimps and Aneke play for the U18s 6 or so years back…

  22. tsgh says:

    Thanks Lee, Scott…

well Yaya Sir-no-goals is a working project. The mind boggles at the decision to hold on to Yaya instead of Aneke or Afobe

  23. Joe says:

Morning all, seems the woman down the chipper was wrong or are thee civil service on a go slow or is itt the sweet FA. 🙂
