How will it all end for Arsene Wenger?

Morning all.

I’m sure the Frenchman still has his followers, fans who still believe he can do no wrong. I expect the very question the headline poses never enters their mind. Not all I know but many of his worshippers are about because they know nothing different and Arsenal FC before Arsene Wenger simply didn’t and still doesn’t exist. Nor does life after him. Just the very thought of Wenger leaving the club brings them out in a cold sweat.

But those numbers must be dropping, surely? How can any fan who loves Arsenal FC the way I/we here on HH, well apart from the odd one or two who pop on every now and again to defend him, believe that our club is doing well under Wenger? How can they believe that he’s our future when his better days are far behind him. Ten or eleven years behind him by my reckoning.

But I’ll give him the few years around the time we moved stadiums as money was tight and he had to work with a small budget but even so, he wasted an awful lot of money on terrible terrible signings and not only that, he’s insisted on rewarding mediocre players with bumper contracts. It seems only yesterday when he stood alongside a few of our English players as they signed new deals with the club suggesting they were the future of the club. British players were key to the team he said, or something like that but where are they now? Apart from Wilshere, Ramsey and Walcott, they’re gone! What a waste of time and money those contract extensions were. Some may suggest two or even all three of the latter have been a waste of money too. That’s perhaps, no, probably where a better manager, certainly a more ambitious manager would have done things differently. They’d have been shown the door long before now and better, stronger players would have been in. The likes of Silvestre or Squillaci would never have been Arsenal players in the first place, nor would a good few others who I can’t be bothered to list.

Only Arsene Wenger would sign just a goal keeper during a summer transfer window when other areas of the team seriously needed addressing. Only he would sign one of the best creators in the game, not only at the last hour of the transfer window but then not sign the type of player(s) needed to compliment him and to not do so for the years which followed. Would any other manager allow a player as good as Lucas Perez to sit on the bench or stay at home to watch the game on the box instead of being on the pitch giving his all for his team? No, no is my answer.

The above are just a few examples of what I consider to be dreadful decisions but there is the tactical side of the game which is and always has been one of his biggest flaws, certainly since he stopped signing players who knew how to play the game as well, if not better than him.

Mourinho locking the stable door at Anfield before the horse had bolted was boring to say the least but I’d take that rather than a 4-0 drubbing any day of the week. It’s called knowing your oppositions strengths and stopping them. Wenger seldom does such a thing but the difference between now and back in his early days is that he doesn’t have a really strong defensive unit, one which allows the attacking players the freedom to do what they do best. Once he had to rebuild the defence, seldom has he got it right and that includes the goalkeeper. Mad Jens was alright, but since then it’s been one disaster after another. Central defenders haven’t been much better either with Mertesacker and Koscielny possibly being the best of an average bunch. Forgive me if I’ve forgotten anyone else.

Anyway, back to the original question and that’s how will it all end for Arsene Wenger. Well, it won’t be on a high, of that I’m sure and the way things are going this season, even a top four spot is out of the equation too. FA Cup, nope, not with the depth and strength of the other top teams and I wouldn’t think we have a hope in hell of winning the League Cup either. There is the Europa League I guess and that competition could be our best chance of returning to the Champions League, but if Tottenham and or Liverpool drop down into the competition, if at any stage we come up against them, I suspect our journey will be over.

Why? Because Wenger has no idea how to beat Poch or Klopp, in fact he’s no idea how to approach a two legged tie in Europe at all.

Not since 2006!

So his ending isn’t going to be good, in fact I foresee this season being his worst ever at the club but If that means it’s his last, I’ll take it….

He Should be sacked. He won’t be. I literally can’t listen to any of the bollocks that comes off of his mouth anymore, the mans arrogance is beyond belief, he thinks he is bigger than the club. I can’t wait for the day he leaves!!!

We are destined for to float along in mediocrity until he buggers off, then likely a few seasons to steady the ship before we can come back. It’s going to be a rough few years people. Sanchez elevates this mid table team to a top 5/6 team. Without him we are no better than Watford or the likes.

    Morning all.

  2. Adam says:

    Morning again Rico.
    All good then? 🙂
Wenger’s played fast loose with the squad for years and years. Yet the decline continues. The chemistry between the manager, the club and the players has just got worse and worse from what I can see. I can’t see how any amount of players musical chairs is going to change the fact that Arsene is washed-up. Where is the contrary evidence?

  3. rico says:

Lewis, have to agree too. It’s all well and good blaming Kroenke and I do, or rather him and the board for not getting shot of Wenger a while ago but they’ve got nothing to do with the squad and it’s problems. He deserves to be sacked, that’s for sure.l.

  4. Wavy says:

    Morning all.

Good read, as always Rico. You’ve hit the nail on the head, just a shame you didn’t include Wenger in your ‘violent’ attack! (I jest.)

if things get worse on the field and the fans become totally toxic, I think we may see the wrinkly one walk away, but not till May! …..sadly.

These days Wenger seems to have the vision of a partially sighted old mole. He cannot, or will not look in the mirror and see the truth staring back at him! If he does an honest assessment of his performance and how his team reflects his levels of results he must see that what he is doing and has done for many years now is, underachieve. Arrogant, stubborn, purrblind? Overpaid, over indulged and over here! He surely must see that his days are done. How he keeps hanging on defies reason. Even Moroninho has ceased to insult him, he has no need. It’s quite clear that the grisly one has lost it.

My advice would be to sack him, NOW. Sod red nose’s record. When you’re so past you sell by/ use by date, you time is up. There is no place for sentimentality in football. It’s time the Board took back their control of the club and let us all move on to new pastures. No matter what the short term consequences may be it would be better to take a few paces backwards in order to take giant strides forward, in the future. Or at least I’m sure we’d all hope so.

There’s no time like the present, strike while the iron’s hot and before the club disappear down a deep hole up from which they may never reappear!

What a negative post this is, again. But what is there to praise??

No wind here yet, apart from the revenge of the roasted artichokes that we ate for lunch yesterday. Gale fo.rce it is!

  5. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, does anyone actually blame Stan and Stan alone for the problems?
What’s the difference between us all?
Some blame Stan more than Arsene, where some blame Arsene more than Stan.
Either way, it’s splitting hairs as we all blame them both.
So much finger pointing and comments aimed at pro-Wenger people who hardly even exist can spark heated debate which seems to keep us all occupied, but does it solve anything?
There’s really nothing to be gained by us taking our frustrations out on each other when we aren’t the problem at the club, no matter which side of the equation we are on.
Stan and Arsene are probably laughing at the fans who are against them, but against each their all at the same time.

  6. rico says:

Thanks Wavy, I’d sack him too. Blow all this ‘he deserves respect or deserves to leave when he chooses’ – he’s washed up and should be out the door…

  7. Lee says:

“Arsene Wenger needs to sit up and take notice at Troy Deeney’s claims that this Arsenal team can be bullied.

Deeney said that Arsenal lack ‘cojones’ and that if you go hard into the first challenge against them, they will back off.

Very rarely does an opponent give you such an insight into your weakness. If you are an Arsenal player, that is pretty damning. Those comments got my blood boiling and I’m not even playing, so goodness knows what Wenger and the players must have thought.

The pinnacle for Wenger is the technical brilliance of Barcelona. But look at his teams who won the Premier League. They were technically superior but also had a steeliness and ruthlessness to win games.

Arsenal have improved in recent weeks. Before this game they had not conceded for 444 minutes and until Richarlison dived to win Watford a penalty, Arsenal were heading for a workmanlike victory.

But Wenger cannot hide behind the penalty. What concerned me was the way his team capitulated once Watford had equalised.

Where are their physical players? I was fortunate to play in the 1997-1998 Arsenal side. It was a team equipped for all occasions.

That team was capable of passing opponents off the pitch but equally if anyone wanted to go to war with us, they would be in for one hell of a battle.

If a player like Deeney had come off the bench then I would be wanting to fight fire with fire and make sure I am winning every header.

Deeney argued that as Arsenal are no longer able to dominate teams with their technical ability, you can knock them down by testing them even more physically.

As it is, Arsenal look set to lose their best techinicians in Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil. All the uncertainty over their futures has felt like a pantomime. The sooner we draw a line under this issue, the better.

Going forward, Wenger needs to recruit a different type of player who is prepared to graft and scrap.

Of course we want to see players who are great athletes and extremely skilful but Wenger needs more players in the mould of Sead Kolasinac — men who are solid, determined and direct.”

    Known.

Going forwards Wenger needs to fuck off and not recruit another single player for Arsenal! ?

  8. Le Coq Monster says:

    Great read Rico.

Great last comment on last post by Scott which I completely agree with…………………..there`s absolutely no denying Pep is a better coach than Wenger, but although Pep would get more out of our current players, it would not be to the level of exquisite football Mansour City are playing now as he wouldn`t have the right tools and believe me some of the players bought are right tools ! hahaha

And on the other hand, if he did have it, I wouldn`t trust Wenger with £400M to spend in 14 months like Pep did !

As I said the other day……….Wenger needs to go asap, but any manager coming in (other than Pep) would have a mountain of a task to get this club back to competing at the highest level, he would need the proper tools for the job and I`m afraid they cost more than our owner is willing to invest !…………….even nif he were to invest a million % more than he has up to date it would be………………..a million times nought = ………….wait for it !……………………….£0

  9. ScottfromOz says:

How long have clubs been kicking us off the park?
Deeney is hardly the bearer of some innovative thinking, but for whatever reason, we don’t kick back and I agree that hearing it from an opponent is a slap in the face to our club.
Wenger and his idealistic approach to the game-he doesn’t realise it ain’t an ideal world!!!!

  10. Le Coq Monster says:

I like the first line……………………..”I’m sure the Frenchman still has his followers”……………………………………they are very quiet lately though. I personally haven`t heard a peep out of them ! hahaha

I was reading Lee`s 11:12am comment and was thinking exactly the same about his last sentence before I read it !

  11. ScottfromOz says:

LC, I agree that we shouldn’t allow Wenger to make any more signings, but we desperately need more players like his latest signing who cost us nothing 🙂 🙂
Just don’t let him spend money on players-simple lol

  12. Le Coq Monster says:

This is what I dont get…………….many may think that Pep has some secret formula to how they train or play !……………..but come on , how many people have played under Pep and not still in his employment ?……………..there must be 100`s out there who have worked under him and know what his training and tactical methods are, so it cant be a secret, so why do more teams not try his ways ?…………………………………….Note to Arsene…………….employ someone who knows Pep workings !………………………mind you, if everyone played the same way as Pep`s philosophy, then it would boil down to who had the best players at the end of the day and here I go again………………they cost more money !……………………….it`s not Rocket Science to workout that other than the anomaly of Leicester the three richest clubs have monopolised the EPL title since we last won it !…………………..that my freinds knocks all the arguments for six imo……………………….Bayern, Barca, R Madrid, PSG and our Big 3…………………….notice some kind of pattern there ?…… hahahaha

  13. Le Coq Monster says:

I`d go further than that Scott about not letting him spend money, I wouldn`t let him in the building………………………..SECURITY !!!!

    😆

  14. ScottfromOz says:

    Agreed 🙂
Pep is just a very good manager.
What Arsene did all those years ago was innovative, and Pep will never even come close to changing the game in the way Wenger did.
Wenger is past it now, however, while Pep is in his prime.
It wouldn’t have been a fair contest back then, just as it isn’t now.
There’s really little point comparing the two.
The poor old bugger just donest realise his times up.

  15. allezkev says:

Ozil has been copping a lot of flak, in particular from the media, who in general hated the fact that Arsenal paid a record amount for a world class player, we must never lose sight of the fact that many in the media detest Arsenal and are loving seeing us implode. Therefore all the anti-Ozil stuff is a dream come true for most of them.

Did Wenger fcuk up by bringing on Ozil..?
Is Ozil to blame for our eventual defeat..?

I’m not so sure, it could have been a great substitution if Iwobi had scored from Ozil’s first pass, Watford were chasing the game and leaving gaps for our players to exploit. Then a Ozil missed that great chance from Iwobi’s astute pass, it was classic Ozil, casual and wasteful and from the restart Watford broke clear and gained a soft penalty from a dive in the box.

We could have been leading 3-0 by then, yep I know we weren’t, but that’s Arsenal, ifs and buts.

Personally I don’t know why Giroud came on for Lacazette?
Because whenever the fabulously bearded Frenchman comes on we go static up front and teams press us.

Anyway, here we are, listening to football luminaries like Alan Shearer, Troy Deeney, Joey Barton et al, telling us and Wenger where we went wrong and how soft we are, in fact, not much has changed since that 8-2 at Old Trafford, and we’re as far away now as we were then in competing for the league title.

It’s all very stale, samey and frankly I’m bored to death with it.

    Good post Rico…

  16. Le Coq Monster says:

    Now let me think, Rico……………………………………………

    💡

Probably something to do with him having a lot better players at Mansour City than Arsenal currently have !…………………………..by my mind he wanted to buy Alexis, but none of the other Arsenal players !

    😀

  17. ScottfromOz says:

    Rico,
I believe It’s because Deeney said it that’s it’s even news.
It’s not what was said because everyone says it.
None of our guys even had the balls or pride to speak up about it.

  18. ScottfromOz says:

    Rico,
I don’t see anything revolutionary in him at this stage.
He’s young enough so that may change but I wouldn’t say so yet.

  19. Le Coq Monster says:

You still need the right players to exercise Peps philosophy, even he will struggle with Stepanov, Cygan, Squilacci and Silvestre etc`……………………………..

    🙂

  20. Le Coq Monster says:

As I have said, …………………………surely Peps training methods are not a secret and must be well known.

Wenger had a winning formula in the early years……………….. great technical players with steel, they could play but could handle the Troy Deeneys of this world, not that hard to try a winning formula is it ?

  21. rico says:

Scott, what do people expect after being beaten by them in the fashion we did. Everyone who has anything to say about the club which is negative…

  22. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, even when we disagree, I still can’t believe you keep showing up with posts 🙂
    Hats off to you.

  23. Le Coq Monster says:

Anyway !……………fcuk him , the sooner he`s gone the better !……………….do I really need or does he even need someone to feel sorry for him ?………………………………I`m happy on £7.50 ph driving around Cornwall…………………….I`m sure he`s delirious managing Arsenal on £8M+ per year………….he should be able to handle any flak thrown at him on that amount !………………………………..as for Kroenke……..I would be banned for expletives and it`s before the watershed ! hahaha

  24. Lee says:

Rico the money thing just masks Wenger’s inadequacy….he’s had plenty of ammunition to do a better job than he has over the last 13yrs!

    Give someone else a crack!

Yeah we’ve been bullied for years, everyone with half a brain knows that…well apart from one! ?

  25. rico says:

Certainly does Lee and why it comes up I don’t really know. I don’t see other club fans using the lack of money as an excuse.

Can’t think who that one is… lol

  26. allezkev says:

Scott, I think that Pep comes up because we could have had him as Arsenal manager and whilst he wouldn’t have had the amounts to spend that Abu Dhabi have afforded him, it would have been progress.
He would also have attracted the kind of players to Arsenal that are not longer attracted by Wenger.
Pep would have also spent all our transfer reserves instead of leaving it in the bank whilst we lack on the field.
He would have moved on certain players who continually underperform and maybe Ozil and Alexis would be wanting to stay.

And we, as Arsenal fans, would have something fresh and innovative to argue/ debate about.

I don’t know about you mate, but that seems an attractive alternative to the shit we presently are enduring.

  27. ScottfromOz says:

Rico, 400 million gets that quality.
Pep has bought the right players, but he hasn’t taught them how to play.
He’s obviously spent well and bought players suited to his system but they were already brilliantly talented footballers.
Wenger hasn’t bought and our system isn’t working.
It’s all so joyful to watch 🙂

  28. allezkev says:

1995/96, that’s the last season that I didn’t go to a single Arsenal game.
George Graham had been sacked in 1995 and the whole place reeked of inertia.

I could have gone to the West Brom and Brighton games, but I didn’t have the enthusiasm or desire to go. The football is so stale.

In previous seasons I would have definitely gone to the Doncaster and Norwich games as I always enjoy seeing our young players taking their first steps towards the first team.
But the thought of negotiating the atrocious parking system in Islington, with it cashless method that never seems to work is a total turn off before I even consider the football.

I guess that if we progress in the UEFA Cup that I might be tempted, but the thought of losing a days money for that pile of shit isn’t really doing it for me.

44,000 for the Doncaster game should have set the alarm bells ringing in Kroenke Towers.
Once we’re through the angry stage and disinterest sets in then KSE’s money machine really is in the mire…

  29. jeff wright says:

The sight of little Kos who has ‘starred’ in all of the worst defeats in the history of AFC – domestically and in Europe – limping off as soon as the going started to get tough on Saturday night was a rather familiar one. This French striker Lackadaisical who spent his entire career up until the age of 29 playing for Lyon while being ignored by the big Euro clubs looks another typical Wenger signing. Wenger has lucrative sponsorship deals and TV ones in France and it does his own image no harm by him signing French league players. Wenger of course bleated on about the dodgy penalty decision being scandalous ,well it was iffy but hardly scandalous , however the French buffoon conventionality ignored the fact that he has benefited from some dodgy calls himself over the years .West Brom at home being the last one and twice last season limping Kos scored late winners against Burnley away and at home that were clearly off-side by the proverbial., This is Wenger we are talking about though and any excuse will do .He should be looking at himself and his own decision to stay in a job that he clearly is not up to and has not been up to doing it or donkeys years . He really does look old for his age and very tetchy and stressed out .Many of his comments and erratic behaviour bring to mind the old saying of those that the gods wish to destroy they first send mad. Things are going to get worse as well for him. The question is will he last out the season.I can’t wait to see him load up his charabanc after the wheels have been put back on it and watch him disappear into a setting sunset. His au-revoir can’t come quick enough for me .

  30. potter says:

Nothing new in Deeney’s comments. Anyone with an ounce of football knowledge knows this has been our Achilles heel since the Neville sisters ably assisted by Riley kicked Reyes out of English football. We are not stupid the English game is more physical than other places where the fouls are more cynical. We see it , why can’t he.

  31. Wavy says:

I agree Jeff, the sooner Wenger is repatriated the better. We could send him packing, back to France as a generous gesture of the Brexit cause. (Not that I agree with Brexit but, it may have its uses!)

  32. jeff wright says:

Wavy ,Wexit sounds like a good idea we should try to include the French players Wenger signed in the deal as well .I don’t reckon that any of ’em would get into any of the top sides in the Prem.

  33. rico says:

    Afternoon all.

    Some really good comments today..

I like the idea of the French players departing with Wenger, well, most of them….

  34. Alex says:

    Good afternoon Rico
    A very good read .

Le prof has found his sanctuary in Kronke’s hand.

After a miserable end of season he rewarded him for another stay and more money.

Those who pretend to be fans and rally behind this old man are also in some way or another profiting and making money.

The Untold the vocal ones sell his Arsenal books soooo…….. ??

There is no way an ordinary fan that see :

    _The contract situation.of players

_The non ending negligence of shortage players recruitment

    _Rubbish yes utter rubbish academy

    .. . …..and be a happy fan…….

  35. Meerkat says:

Hi everyone. I haven’t posted much recently, because there was and is nothing new to say really.
I agree with LCM’s 11.41 post, and as usual Scott has made some good points without being outrightly critical of Wenger.
However, yep there is always a ‘however’ or a ‘but’, I can see this season going right down the pan, and the management must shoulder the blame.
Yeah most of the players are mediocre and not physically up to the EPL, but Wenger signed them after taking advice from well paid scouts who have watched them. How could anyone have thought Ozil, even though he prays to the Prophet before going onto the pitch, would be up for a fight on the field if the going got tough. He just disappears after losing the ball, and jogs away instead of challenging back.
Lazy and cowardly sums him up for me.You’d think he would try to silence his critics, but no, he doesn’t seem to give a s*it.

Pep with his over £400 million spending, has built an attractive and formidable side. Christ he’s sent better players than ours out on loan!!

It is all very boring now, and I never thought Arsenal would ever regain that tag, which they had under George Graham.

Wenger tried to build a second rate Barcelona, but has failed dismally. All this bollocks about resting players does my head in. You play your best players every game IMO. Why ‘rest’ the international players who returned? They get payed millions of pounds for 90 minutes of their time once or twice a week, if they are depressed after losing out on the World Cup, who cares?, They should friggin well play and earn their wages, and if they don’t do it then drop them, but have them in for extra training every day with the youngsters.

All these millionaire footballers being wrapped in cotton wool, saving them……………….. for what exactly?

Boring, boring Arsenal who can’t string passes together, are easily knocked off the ball, and have no passion. They should be ashamed.
So should Wenger and his management team. I dread playing the two Manc clubs.

Stan can even afford to turn down 2 bIllion,
    wise up geezers,he could’nt give a toss.
Arsene looks lost when ever we lose a game,
he fails to judge the way game is going when
    a team step it up.

Arsene go’s to bed at night thinking about
    football.
But gets to sleep thinking about 8 million a year.

  40. lari3 says:

Wenger has simply lost the plot, do you know it would have been a different game, if the rising Reiss Nelson came on for Welbeck, instead of Ozil? Wenger is simply useless at this stage, and all he can do is moan.

  41. rico says:

Irai3, Walcott would have been a good option too. I know he’s not ideal but his pace would have kept Watford on the back foot..

  42. jeff wright says:

The answer to the question will not be Wenger taking the blame for anything himself that’s one thing we can be certain off ! Getting back to the penalty incident it must be pointed out that Bellend made a slight intentional contact on the Watford player as he raced into the goal area. That was sufficient for him to go down as though shot by a sniper in the crowd. So I cite here m’lud the case of Wenger v UEFA the Eduardo ruling on diving. Monsieur Wenger claimed in the case when he appealed against a ban given to Eduardo for diving in a Champions League game that the goalie had made a slight contact on diving Eddies ankle and that caused him to go dramatically down as though pole-axed .The ref saw it as play acting though and booked Eddie for diving and under the new rules that were being tried out to try and stop diving Eddie was given a ban.Now Wenger used as he put it ‘forensic evidence ‘ to show that there had been some contact even though slight and therefor Edourdo who was another Wenger flop could not be guilty of diving. Wenger won the appeal and any hope of diving being cut out went with that decision by the UEFA. appeal panel. It’s hard to see how the Watford man can be banned if using Wenger’s own criteria for judging when a dive is not a dive. Wenger is hung by his own petard regarding this. The man is a complete idiot and and an arrogant hypocrite to boot. You couldn’t make it up.

Amazing News AKPOM has at last scored a goal to give the Uӣ a good win to move us to 3rd.
    Sheaf very good 2nd half.

  49. ScottfromOz says:

So Wenger has the hide to complain about an opponent diving, yet at some point a decade ago defended our diver.
Incredible that a manager would do that in this day and age lol
EVERY manager does the same thing!
As for everyone saying he blames the officials, what’s your point???
    They all do it!!
Fergie never managed a side that was beaten by a better opponent.
Seriously, some of the criticisms show people have very selective memory.
I’m really not sure why these points are made because again, the man is already doing his critics legwork.
Stick to poor tactics, ridiculously inept transfer dealings, overpaying players, buying the wrong type of player etc etc etc
Fukk me, a manager blaming officials lol
    Heaven forbid hahaha

  50. allezkev says:

Yeah Rick, maybe Chuba will go on a run now, who knows, he might get a start vs Norwich. We might actually need him…

Funny how Arsene said that the squad was too big in the summer.

  51. Joaquim Moreira says:

All Clubs make acquisitions that lead to failure. Arsenal has had some, but compared to Totts, Citizens, MUnited, Liverpool … making the balance, it seems to me that is more positive for Arsenal.
The main problem is Ozil. There is one team with Ozil and one with Ozil. At all levels. He is a better overpaid player than everyone else, he trains and plays less regularly than others, his stance in the field is different from the others, players accuse these differences. which is not the case with Alexis, who has totally different postures and compositions. .
AW out, as soon as possible. You know the best option.
    Ozil out. Fakir in.
Alexis is very difficult to replace.

  52. Wath says:

RIck, Ben S another with balls… hope the lad stays fit, also that they play him in midfield and stop messing the boy around and playing him centre half.

  53. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, the squad was too big so he sold, then sold, then sold some more hahaha
It was never too bloody big!
    We were already short.
Two things Wenger has done can never, ever be explained or defended, IMO.
One was signing Cech and only Cech a few season back.
The other was selling Gabriel and not adding another CB when we were already short.
    Actually, there’s more than 2 🙂

  54. ScottfromOz says:

Who the hell is this Wath?
    Rico, another blow in 🙂
    Howdy, Wath.
Good times for us all atm mate.
    Ooh to be…..

  55. jeff wright says:

Scott , my point was that Wenger himself by winning his Eduardo ‘forensic evidence’ appeal allowed players to carry on doing it if there was some contact involved. No other manager who natch never see their players diving did this,This point though appears to have flown over your head ! The fact that this was a few years ago is irrelevant had the ref received support over the Eduardo incident then it might have helped to clean up the game as it is the diving just goes on .Wenger complaining though about it is a bit much when he put a stop to UEFA trying to stop the cheating with his ‘forensic evidence ‘ appeal. Wenger’s whinging on Saturday was a case of Kettle calling pot if ever there was one. By the way for someone who claims to want Wenger out you do rather a lot of attacking his critics on here. My advice is that you should give it a rest cobber because you can’t have your cake and eat it.

  56. ScottfromOz says:

Jeff, I’ll criticse Wenger, but I refuse to be a hypocrite about it.
You can do as you please, obviously, but any comment is left open to discussion.
Arsene is no different to any other manger regarding moaning about officials, yet people want to make out that he is.
Stick to the facts on Wenger and you won’t hear boo from me because, and I was pretty clear on this, there’s no need to come up with something from a decade back when Arsene give us ammo every day to criticise him.
As for wanting my cake and eating it to, well isn’t that the entire point of my comment?
As you say, that part flew straight over your head.
    No problems,
    Agree to disagree.

  57. Meerkat says:

I don’t know of any manager who doesn’t see his own teams fouls, through rose tinted glasses, yet never misses a foul against them. Amazing isn’t it?

No, there is much that Wenger can be criticised for, but not that. Time he realised that he is not wanted, and left in a dignified manner, by admitting he has no answer to the team problems. Surely the money isn’t that important to him now. He’s earned enough.

As for poor decisions, It usually balances out over the season, depending on the ref at the time.

I’m more concerned now that the club are going downhill in every respect, and will not attract the best players.
Looking at Wenger and Bould on the bench during games, gives no confidence or comfort. They are finished at this level.

  58. Rick says:

Wath I believe that with Mcguane Niles and Ben Sheaf in midfield and Nketeh and Nelson up front the U 23 stand a very good chance of winning the the league
Kev I would love to see all of them play against Norwich.

  59. ScottfromOz says:

Meerkat, they really do appear void of ideas too often:
Viewers can see momentum swings, yet these guys, who are paid big money, wait until it’s too late to do anything about it.
Yep, times up but what does he have in his life apart from Arsenal?
    It’s a sad demise.

  60. ScottfromOz says:

Rick, you rate them that highly?
Damn, let’s hope we get to see them in the first team regularly and soon.
We need some motivated players on the pitch.

  61. jeff wright says:

As I said Scott the fact that it was a decade ago is irrelevant precedents in law last for centuries in some cases so a decade is not very long .Wenger set the precedent that allowed players to go down legally when a minimal contact was involved. So I reiterate his moaning about the ref awarding a penalty on Saturday was the chickens coming home to roost. By the way originally he accepted the refs decision on Eddies dive but later changed his mind when having viewed the video he noted that some contact was involved. So why was he moaning on Saturday because according to his legal challenge that he won in the Edddie case v UEFA the ref was entitled to award a penalty. Bellend by slightly pushing the Watford player in the back allowed the Ref under the Wenger v UEFA Eduardo case to make a penalty call. Wenger should come out and admit that he was right the first time when he backed the ref on that and wrong when he changed his mind about it ,rather than hypocritically whinging about diving when he himself helped to perpetrate this malaise in the game for what he perceived to be at the time a short term gain by getting Eddi the diver’s ban lifted .However, in fact this was no gain at all.C’ est la vie !

  62. ScottfromOz says:

Jeff, I’m not suggesting Wenger is right in this situation, just that every manager is guilty of it.
We know he’s feeling sorry for himself and desperately looking to deflect criticism from himself.

  63. allezkev says:

Scott, I still don’t quite understand why Wenger sold Paulista especially as with three at the back you’re going to need more centre-backs, not less…

Then you compound that decision with the well documented attempts to sell Mustafi and Chambers, where is the planning, the long term policy?
It’s making it up as you go along, it’s squad assembly on the fcuking hoof.

And while he was selling Paulista and trying to move on Mustafi and/or Chambers, he was using Elneny and Maitland-Niles as a centre-back during the clubs tour, what the fcuk was that all about?

    It’s all a mess, a fcuking big stinking mess…
    Where’s the direction?
    Where’s the plan?

I’m with Rico, I think he’s gonna see out this season and either resign or get sacked.

  64. ScottfromOz says:

Kev, we are all on the same wavelength of wanting him gone, rather, we realise he MUST go.
    There’s no divide there.
We could have and should have sold some of our Attack minded midfielders and brought in a gun DM as well as at least one more CB.
I’ll say this-we’d be damn near undefeated I’d wed got Van Diijk (spelling) which was just an obvious call to make.
Sell Ozil it Alexis or both to fund it!
    How hard is it?
It’s suicidal to be short in defence, yet we are every season.

  65. rico says:

    Morning Adam and all.

The excuses Wenger has up his sleeve come out quite often. Didn’t he once blame the grass for our loss? Numptie!
