Holding in, who’s out? Arsene eyeing City defender and Matthias Ginter…

Morning all.

Arsenal have finally got their man. After upping the offer to Bolton a bit, the northern club has now accepted a bid for Englishman Rob Holding. While this signing will not excite every Arsenal fan, it’s best to remember where the neighbours signed Deli Ali from before writing him off. Holding is equally as good apparently when playing left or right back as he is centrally.

His arrival could spell the end of either Mathieu Debuchy, Carl Jenkinson or Kieran Gibbs Arsenal career and my money is on the Frenchman. However, according to reports in the media, Man City are sniffing around Hector Bellerin and one of the Spaniards entourage has reportedly told Mundo Deportivo:

He is happy at Arsenal… but the option of City exists, it pleases him and what’s more, Pep [Guardiola] is there.

Seriously, wasn’t Pep Guardiola the manager of Barcelona at the time Bellerin transferred to Arsenal, so why would Pep be so important to him now? I’m sure that if Bellerin has said no to a Barca return, there’s little chance he’d want to move to City. Even if he did though, perhaps Holding might turn out to be better….

As so many Arsenal fans say, it’s not about who leaves, it’s about how they are replaced and by who…..

The worrying thing is though, Arsene Wenger said he wouldn’t sign more than three players this summer and with the imminent arrival of Holding, that’s exactly what he’s done. A defender, striker and central midfielder. So does this mean our transfer window is now closed? It can’t be surely, as how can Arsene Wenger go for Jamie Vardy one minute, only to not sign an established striker – it wouldn’t make sense at all. Neither would expecting Takuma Asano to go from playing in Japan, to leading our front line if Ollie suffered injury.

The Riyad Mahrez rumours are hotting up. It’s a straight race between Arsenal and Chelsea if we are to believe what’s written. With Kante having already signed for the West Londoners, I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see his old teammate join him. All they need to do is offer more than us and they’ll win the battle no doubt, unless Mahrez realises he could be a star at Arsenal rather than a small fish in a pond at Chelsea.

The name Mauro Icardi won’t leave the Arsenal back pages either, so perhaps there’s still a surprise or two being readied by Arsene Wenger yet although I wouldn’t bet on in. Talking of which, check out the best odds on arrivals at the Emirates at Bethut.

Finally, Matthias Ginter and Jason Denayer are the latest names we are supposedly chasing. Ginter barely played for Dortmund last season, just two matches in fact and Denayer spent the season on loan at Galatasaray but is tipped for a big future at Man City.

Have a good Tuesday guys, my F5 tab has broken, only on NN though……

He has said three but asano as stated is one for the future I would assume holding is regarded simarly. I would still expect a striker and another defender to be in. At the least a striker and then it depends on who leaves. The real question is who that is now we all know the club never do their business publicly and only announce once the deal is completed.

  2. Steven says:

Good read re-Kos really don’t think he’ll move to play second fiddle to Hummles (best CB in world football imo) and Boatang who is not far behind him! Holding seems very classy and re-Ali suggestion I think that’s a good point plenty of players have come through lower league academy’s and proved to be top players! I’m pretty certain we’ll buy a striker of top quality this summer Juve just pulled out of the running for Higuian so he should be the number 1 target vardy should have always been a backup, Giroud said Wenger was buying two strikers this summer and he wasn’t bothered I’d be disappointed to see him move to Napoli in a swap deal I think he as a lot to offer, I’m hoping Cambell, Theo, Debuchy etc get some money in for us respond ally considering we’ve spent what 15 mil last season on transfers. Marhez would sort that right wing out and already has that workrate but when he played against us last year he was missing for most of the game in both matches makes me worry about his ability!

  3. rico says:

Steven, I didn’t see that from Ollie about two strikers coming in. I guess the Japan guy is one so hopefully a top one will be in before the window closes. Really can’t see Arsenal spending £80m on Higuain though…

  4. Hell Raising Devil says:

Maybe if we get Holding AW will not buy another defender.

Maybe he is interested in only a CF and a Winger.

He did say three top signings. Xhaka+CF+Winger.

Asano and Holding may be just back ups and for the future.

  5. Steven says:

Neither can I tbh but his record is outstanding and I’m hoping Wenger takes a gamble I know Ozil said he’s the best striker he’s played with and knows his movements inside out he has to use the money the club has got to be successful! Hope Utd spend 100 mil on Pogba so we can have a little laugh at them

  6. rico says:

If Holding is for the future then he’d be better off going out on loan to get playing time. No point in him following in Chambers footsteps and just train but not play.

No idea how good he is though as never seen him play…

  7. Hell Raising Devil says:

Lacazette is French and that means he will not go gallivanting all over the world during national games. Icardi is Argentinian and if chosen he will have to travel too much.

Lacazette is more like Henry in style which means he can play centrally and on both flanks. Icardi is more like Ollie in style but with more speed.

If I was the manager I would go for Icardi and get a winger as well.

  8. Hell Raising Devil says:

From 1st October, the Italian league will be aided by technology which means that the ref can replay a particular situation which is ambiguous. However it is only when a goal or sending off happens, that the ref see a replay of the action

  9. Hell Raising Devil says:

I would always prefer it if AW bought players from the following countries……..England, France, Spain, Italian, Swiss, Portuguese, Dutch, Austria, Norway, Sweden and Denmark…..the reason is that they will not have a long time travelling to their country and back. I have nothing against other nations however, I feel that when one sees the pros and cons of both sides I feel its much better if our players come from these countries.

And don’t tell me that he cannot find good players from all of these European countries.

  10. rico says:

Surely it should be about the quality of the player rather than where he comes from.. There aren’t that many international breaks during a season although it always seems there’s loads…

  11. Hell Raising Devil says:

Yes Rico…..but a player who is Argentinian (example) and plays a game between Tuesday and Wednesday morning will not arrive at the club until Thursday.

I agree with you that it should be about the quality of the player, but when one takes into consideration the jet lag, all the travelling plus the ACON in the middle of the season and the summer tournaments then its better if we get them from the above nations.

  12. allezkev says:

    Morning All…

Morning Coach, I have no idea if Wenger will use a purely English back4 in the cups mate, tbh I’ve not seen Holding play, but he had a good reputation regarding talented, young, English, blah blah blah. And English players are a requirement under current FIFA/UEFA regulations, etc…
Hopefully he’s gonna be a good addition to the squad and be able to defend, which would make a pleasant change…

I have no idea where Chambers currently stands in the scheme of things at Arsenal..?

He hasn’t really progressed at Arsenal has he. Maybe if he stays then Tony Adams will give him some advice, in fact Adams could probably do with giving a our defenders some specialised defensive coaching…
And while we’re at it, bring back Martin Keown as well…

Morning Rico, it’s t-shirt and shorts weather today…

  13. Wath says:

Back to wellies and umbrella on Thusday Kev……! Pop into the Hawley, I’ll have the horlicks ready and waiting for you..!

  14. allezkev says:

I can’t see Man City selling us anyone, unless it’s something to do with an approach for Bellerin – perish the thought ☹️

But we were in for Ginter 2 years ago, so Wenger could still be interested, unless it’s his agent trying to galvanise some interest in his player by throwing Arsenal’s name into the mix..?

Not sure about either rumour, not now we’re signing Holding, who I believe is related to John Terry…

  15. Steven says:

Would anyone consider berahino? 20 mil young English knows the prem top little finisher on his day? At least for squad?

  16. Wavy says:

Horlick, a forebear of mine about 5 generations ago, and the tight side of the blanket too! Hated the bed time malted drink when I was a kid, and I’ve not changed my opinion even now!

Holding at 2.5m seems very cheap by today’s inflated prices, but it is what it isn’t! Has Wenger bought a potential gem? Or has he bought this one thinking he’ll turn out like Cahill? He missed him because he played the tight wad game, and paid the price. For all his faults Cahill has been quite a good CB for the chavs, we would have taken to him I think.

Talk of buying an expensive striker are much exaggerated. I don’t think the aged one will buy another goalscorer this window. May be wrong, it’s just a feeling.

Morning all. Lovely day here so I’m going to the dump to get rid of many empties and a bit of garden waste. Well, where else would you go on the hottest day of the year?

  17. Wath says:

It won’t be on Thursday Rico when you’ll need to wrap up warm again… a nice 4 day summer been and gone lol 🙂

Will we buy won’t we buy, who we buying who we not buying….. quite frankly I am past caring, couldn’t give a rats arse..!

Until the stubborn egotistical dictator moves on i’m of the opinion nothing changes and it will be same ole same ole…!

As Kev has said he’ll move on and we’ll all still be here, we’ll still be Arsenal while he is looking to buy the cheapest mansion possible for his retirement..! Until then it’s really not worth having my weekends and weeks ruined because we fail as usual to live up to expectations.

    Just my opinion of course…!

  18. Wath says:

By choice, hot chocolate all night long 🙂 made with hot milk of course…! Valetta that’s an ice cream…. lol

  19. rico says:

Quite fond of both Kev… 😉

No Wath, it’s going to be glorious right through until Sunday…

Very true, little will change whilst the stubborn one is manager…..

    Afternoon Rico and the House.
Its boiling down south 30 degrees at the moment.
    First some fixture news.
    Friday 22nd, with 12pm ko
Behind closed doors at Colny U21 v Charlton U21
Also Frid 22 with 7pm ko
    First team away to Lens.
This game is being shown live on the Arsenal Player

Sat 23 rd U 18/17 away to Hamburgh Venue and Ko not known at the Moment

Question do we have enough players in training to play 3 games in 24 hours?
    More shortly

  21. allezkev says:

U18’s and schoolboys playing for U21’s…

    U21’s playing in Lens…

Expect to see Reine-Adelaide play in Lens, also expect to see Akpom start, Campbell perhaps and see Willock and Bielik involved…

Shame the game isn’t on Channel 5 or something like that.
I certainly ain’t signing up to the Arsenal Player or whatever Kroenke inspired platform the club are desperate to flog, complete no doubt with adverts and other crap…

  22. Rick says:

Good read this morning Rico but there they always are.

You asked who’s out and that is what we all have been saying for a long time.

The club have just updated the player’s profiles

They have listed a first team squad of 30 players, 25 over 21 and Bellerin Chambers Gnabry Iwobi and Akpom as u21 players.
In the 25 there are 15 foreign players and 10 home produced
As I see it we can sign 2 more foreign player if Arsene moves 2 players out of the squad, and this is very simple.
Wellbeck is injured until next year so there is no need to include him.
If Ospina is happy to be no 2 to Cech let Chessny go on another loan.
If he is not happy to be No2 sell him and keep Chessny

But then again Arsene if you want more space get rid of the useless Sanogo.

  23. Wath says:

Rick, If Sanogo is taking up a “place” in away shape or form apart from being there to sweep the dressing room floor then Wenger really has lost the plot or is it another one of his “i’ll show you lot who know nothing about football that I can make this striker decent”…. Yes Arsene, whatever…!!

  24. Obi says:

Re Wath @ 12:17….”quite frankly I am past caring, couldn’t give a rats arse” It’s good to know that there are others having the same sentiment. In 25+ years as a diehard Arsenal fan last season to now has been my lowest point.

  25. potter says:

25 years !!! Your only warming up. But I have to agree we seem to be just drifting aimlessly. I think it was Merson’s dad who told to aim for the stars and that he might hit the ceiling. We don’t even seem to be aiming for the ceiling right now.

  26. Lee says:

“Well apparently rock bottom has a basement,” should be the Arsenal supporter’s motto. 🙂

  27. allezkev says:

Once again, whilst we’ve all been beating around the bush, Lee has cut to the chase, and at this moment in time, sumed it all up, Sanogo, LANS – like a new signing…

    Happy Days ?

    Hi Rico and the House.

Have we bought Messi yet? Because anything less would be tantamount to gross negligence and thereby a sackable offence. Wouldn’t it???
I despair of some Arsenal fans. Read somewhere else about how football has always been a money thing, which of course is hard to argue against. But the same commenter went on to say in 1928, Arsenal paid a record five-figure sum for David Jack from Bolton, and that nothing much has changed.
I hope he peeks in and reads this, because the amount of change has been so dramatic that club doesn’t even exist anymore. Modern-day Arsenal have been re-housed, re-branded, and casually handed over to an absent Yank who doesn’t give a toss! When the previous version bought David Jack, Arsenal led where others just weren’t powerful enough to follow. Chapman was laying the foundations for Arsenal to dominate, and we made all the marquee signings.
Today we are wet saps, so weak we are forced to wait to see who all the other big clubs don’t want, and even then smaller clubs like Leicester turn up to embarrass our scouting network.
I would say that’s quite a significant drop considering Arsenal still make 5th place in Forbes’ List of the richest Football Club’s.
I’d go as far as saying the administration at the club is Vanarama Conference level, the fans are being insulted by the club taking supporters money under false pretences, and the gulf between Forbes’ top four clubs and Arsenal is ridiculously embarrassing.
    Apologies for the rant everyone.

  31. Micko says:

I’ve got one of them too Malaga, it’s called the bushes.

That’s the one Adam, just up from the Woolwich Canons.

Tsgh, I’m a sucker when it comes to Greenwich ! Can’t help meself.

  32. Obi says:

Re Potter @ 3:26. Potter at this rate, I don’t think I can get to your status as an Arsenal supporter. AW, Ivan and Stan are killing me.

  33. Herb's Army says:

Another thing that is wholly embarrassing is when you talk to fans of ‘rival’ club’s and they’re delighted with our manager.
We’ve passed up so many opportunities to up-grade it’s pathetic.
No other major club in the world would tolerate such an alarming decline, or pay a manager a King’s ransom to allow the decline to continue.
The top four clubs in Forbes’ List have won 24 European Cups between them, Arsenal in 5th have zero. Of the top ten clubs, only Arsenal and newly-minted City have failed to win the CL, and as we are witnessing, City are addressing the issue immediately.

  34. allezkev says:

To me, Arsenal are simply going to be a sideshow as far as the EPL is concerned, the main attraction is in Manchester.
It’s Guardiola vs Mourinho, with Conte making up a trio of big stories..
Those are the real headliners, the big names at the big clubs….

Everyone and his dog know that Wenger and Arsenal are not going to be contenders.

We’ll be focusing on all that daft St Totteringham nonsense – I mean who really gives a shit about that..?

Hi all, about time we walked the talk. Since the Arsenal Brand has shown it’s all about the money, lets hit them where it hurts. Not buying tickets and merchandise (I won’t buy even an arsenal themed tissue for my behind) would get the coin living bastards reconsidering their actions.
Problem is not all fans are ‘that’ unhappy.

But you know he won’t….so far anyway.

When you listen to the wenger babs

Arsenal beat Man Utd to Norway youngster – reports
    Football gossip
    Posted at
    09:09
Arsenal have signed 16-year-old Norway defender Erik Tobias Sandberg from Lillestrom SK, the Sun are reporting.

Sandberg captained the Norway under-16s against England in February, and the Sun report that Manchester United were also interested in the centre-back.

    Erik Tobias Sandberg

Remember the name! One for the future………hurrah ……..again!

  43. Marshall says:

Chicharito would be a good striker signing for us. Knows the league and wont cost over the odds..

Another future signing. Great! Remember when Wilshere, Ox,Theo, Gibbs, Bendtner… were for the future?

  44. Wath says:

    Ts, who is Bellerin’s agent….????

Sounds a bit like Ashley Cole’s agent… can someone please put a piece of 4×2 over his nut and shut him the fuck up…! Another prick stirring the pot looking for a nice piece of commission.

  45. allezkev says:

Wath, isn’t Bellerin under contract until 2019…?

Agents are agents and its in their interest to do contract deals as often as possible, both for themselves and their clients…

Players regularly comment at how much they love so and so club, it’s all chicken in a basket nonsense, and it ain’t worth a fig…

  46. Wath says:

Rico cannot get onto the site it’s crashed from her end so sends her apologies, she’s working on things behind the scenes with the tech guru to try fix things so anyone else having probs it’s noted and being dealt with.

Yes Kev 2019 i also thought but whats a contract worth these days, bog roll mate..!

  47. Wath says:

Kev, i’ve always said make it the 10yard rule as in rugby and the dissent would be stopped in a week or so, same with all this “holding” in the box, start awarding penalties when players are held and even if a game is 15-16 due to loads of penalties the shit would stop almost instantly when teams realise refs are serious..!

  48. Marshall says:

Huth and Morgan were overlooked on their collar grabbing antics. Hope the UCL sorts them out. Hate it especially cause we are always on the receiving end of bad grabbing. Ie Morgan shackling Ozil which resulted to them scoring is still vivid.

  49. Marshall says:

Dissent rules could have been made a decade ago. Irks ne how Terry and the chavs always sorrounded the ref.

  51. allezkev says:

The thing is, the new (old) rules will probably last until about the end of October and then it’ll be a free for all…

Can you imagine many referees who’ll have the guts to deal with Mourinho, Conte and Guardiola if they kick-off..?

It’s all fine and dandy dealing with Pardew or even Wenger, but the big three, with their mega money, lawyers etc are another matter…

  52. Wath says:

Kev, If the refs had the balls to officiate to the letter of the law no one would mind and the big three having a tantrum would make them look stupid if everyone else said well its the rules and it’s not stopping the pulling and holding and wrestling in a box so it’s good for everyone. Again the problem would be total inconsistencies from the refs who will blow up one team yet not another…! same ole same ole

  53. Marshall says:

Wath the Mancs too. Hope even the managers wont be allowed to rant to the fourth officials that will silent the Pigmy and the feisty Klopp.

Hope the refs can be impartial and do their jobs ffs!

  54. Wath says:

Half the refs are intimidated I think Marshall hence they always side with teh teams that put pressure on them and who have the managers that mouth off in the papers non stop yep that would be that little tosspot up at man-ure…!

If the refs did their job and were backed by the FA and the managers told to shut up etc etc we’d see an end to it I reckon but it just won’t happen.

Good evening Rico and Gang. Quick pointer. How about a speculative punt for Mario Gomez who just announced that he will not stay with Besitakas Turks due to unrest in country. He is 31 but would be cheap. If he is good enough for Low and the German squad then he should be fine for us. Cheers

  65. arsenal11730 says:

Rico – Decent player warrants a place in the German national team at 31 is quite impressive.
Scored 28 goals in 41 games in Turkish League past season.. Formerly played for Bayern and has a decent scoring record.
    Worth a punt.Cheers

  66. arsenal11730 says:

Gómez can shoot with both feet, and is considered to be an aerial threat. His best ability, however, remains his ability to anticipate crosses and passes, and position himself to shoot. Arsenal manager Arsène Wenger described him as “a great finisher who is often in the right place to finish off moves.”[94] Moreover, his body balance and ability to hold up the ball often creates trouble for defenders. During his time at Bayern, his ability to appear “at the right place at the right time” proved to be one of Bayern’s most lethal attacking weapons as Franck Ribéry and Arjen Robben could often outrun defenders and provide a cross for Gómez. However, despite his goal-scoring abilities, Gómez is often accused of having limited skills.[

Fair point Rico. I just want us Gooners to get in a striker who not frightened to shoot the ball – Fed up with tippy tappy nonsense.Lets bury the ball in back of net. Also believe we need another striker in the squad to take pressure of OG12. I would be willing to put a tenner on TW14 having a breakout season maybe 15 goals and 10 assists. He has seemed so focused and being left out of Euro2016 hurt his ego.

    Cheers

Hi Guys Here is the big news I have been waiting for a long time.
Within the last hour the premier league have announced that they have replaced the U 21 league with the P/L2 for U 23 Players.
The first game in the league is to be Arsenal v Reading at Boreham Wood on Aug 12Th the day before the P/L starts.

Although I have not seen all the rules and regulations from what I have seen so far both The OX and Sanogo ( also Macey) can both play in this League .
Clubs can also play 4 over age players as well.

Fair point Rico its against AW ethos to allow a player to shoot from outside box Good night

  70. potter says:

I have asked two Norwegian friends if they have heard anything about a young player joining us.
Storm has broken here , hopefully the thunder will precede some air to breathe.

  71. Wavy says:

Jimmy Magill northern Irish right back played for the Arsenal during early to mid, sixties? Quite a good defender, of his time!

    Probably not!?

  72. potter says:

Ah Magill and McCullough our Irish international fullbacks . The only claim to fame as Spurs went on their double run.

  73. Wavy says:

Yer, they’re the ones. Magill a player, McCullough the ‘joker’ but both very good full backs. From what I remember they were always really reliable, or at least Magill was, McCullough was when he wasn’t rolling around on the hallowed Highbury turf pretending to be injured!

    Morning All
Had a great dream last night.

    Wenger gets angry,
    He tells The Syrup.
    I want Pogba.
    The Syrup..Tell’s wenger.
    Arsene..You know the rules.
    Wenger spiting feathers.
    Says Stanley…..I want someone over
5ft 10ins…. for corners and defending
    But Arsene we have ollie.
    He’s over 6ft tall.
But Stanley we have £200 million
    for transfers in the kitty.
    I know that Arsene.
But can you imagine what £200million
will be worth when the bank rate go’s up.
    Your right.
That’s another”Fine mess you got me
    out of…Stanley.

    Two eggs on toast please.
    and a cup of rosy.

  75. rico says:

    Morning Ts and all.

I wish AW would go for Sissoko, we’d have an equally strong if not stronger midfield than most in the PL imo.

  76. tsgh says:

    For an odd reason AW seems not to fancy Sissoko, even when he formed that formidable midfield with Capoue at Toulouse… was it because Sadran played hard ball for so long demanding too high a fee for Sissoko;

I guess when we needed a DM, Sissoko was being played behind the striker and we had the ever promising King Abou of the Sick Bay…

  77. frednerk says:

Just to pass on some info
    regarding Sissoko
I was with a Newcastle diehard on
    sunday.
He told me Sissoko was the lazies nob
    in a bar-code.
He said that the newcastle fans want
him finger printed, because the way he
    played in the Europeans,
He must have a twin brother.

  78. Wavy says:

Morning Rico and everyone. The site crashed on me too. It’s only just returned to the world of make believe! Unable to log in yesterday too, for a while, at least. A bit unreliable just at present.
Liked your dream Rick. Sadly it was just too realistic! Fear for our ‘progress’ this season. I just can’t see us being anywhere near the top of the tree in any of the competitions we enter. Will the old chap call it a day and leave at season’s end? I bet he won’t. He will insist that, having failed abjectly, that he, and only he, must put things right. As a result he will be offered another three year contract to give himself sufficient time to progress and turn his ‘new’ project round.

I’m off to find some happy pills!

  79. Wath says:

Fred, funny how that Newcastle fan came on here last week and said exactly the same thing that we’d do well not to get Sissoko as he turned up when he felt like it and was lazy as hell.

We have enough of those and have had enough of those we don’t need another..!

  80. allezkev says:

Not that I really care, but what ‘work’ has Paul Pogba’s agent done, to actually justify an agents fee of £18 million…?

The lunatics are running the asylum…
