Morning all.
Still makes me smile today – what a player he was and equally important, what a great man he was………
He loved football, he learned to love England, but he absolutely fell in love with Arsenal FC and everything it represented in the game….
I am convinced that one day, he will be back. Maybe to pair up with his old mate Thierry Henry. In a very different way of course but equally as effective…..
Talking of huge signings – yesterday we all saw the comments made by our second largest share holder. Actually, he’s our largest shareholder! π
He wants us to go and sign Wayne Rooney. Funny enough, so do I.
He is a great player, there would be great success for Rooney [if he joined Arsenal], and for Arsenal too.
I’m sure he’s right, Rooney is a great player, he would be a great addition. He’d score goals for fun. Ok he may have baggage, so what, many footballers do. This one just happens to tick every box as a striker.
Back to the plea for Rooney, all the newspapers have picked up on the comments from Usmanov and are now reporting that Wenger will try and sign the Englishman.
If that happened and we sign both Higuain and Rooney, it would be the perfect start to this summer’s transfer window for me. Add a defence/holding midfielder and we really are on our way.
John Cross of the Daily Mirror has today written an article suggesting that Arsenal fans have made a huge u-turn on their view of Arsene Wenger.
He writes:
Arsene Wenger has received an overwhelming show of support from Arsenal fans for him to remain as manager.
Wenger’s popularity rating – with more than 70 per cent backing him – appears to be riding high as Arsenal fans are swept along by finishing in the top four and at the prospect of the club going on a major spending spree.
From last season’s low points when fans were calling for change during another trophy-less campaign, the Arsenal faithful appear to have fallen back in love with Wenger.
Now I am not sure where this voting/poll took place and not all fans have been asked for their vote, but regardless, I wonder why the change in heart of so many fans….
One thing is for sure though, if we have a great summer of transfers, that 70% will surely rise…..
That’s it for another day, have a good one all….
Β
Go 4 fellini or wayanma in addition 2 huguin.
Morning all..
Celtic have accepted an offer for Wanyama – from Southampton..
Now weren’t we once linked with a DM from Southampton?
Just sayin π
Morning all,
TGIF
A very up beat post… Nice one. Lets put things in perspective though, they are still just rumours but very welcome of cause. It is better than getting linked to the Tahiti no.10 or goalie as an example. lol
I wonder how the faithful will feel none of this players arrive?
Rico is it Cabella you want or Belhanda? I suspect you wanting a winger it is Remy Cabella you want. Belhanda may give us too many Adel moments.
Rico and that player is French… you are becoming good at putting 2 and 2 together π
Thanks Ts, I am waiting for TFIS π
Schneiderlin is the name… he will do a squad jo and he is very good at keeping and distributing the ball diagonally. What about De Zeuw of Swansea he is now the main DM of Holland… a bit on the short side but very effective
Isn’t Cabella more of a midfielder than winger Ts?
job I meant…
That’s him – can see Saints selling him though…
He was the small flying winger who gave Santos and our LB hell.
Belhanda is a very decent no.10. He was very good in Montpelliers’ title winning season but becasue he did not move away last summer his performances were a bit sporadic…
http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=Remy+Cabella&view=detail&mid=F1C901960422F72248C1F1C901960422F72248C1&first=0&FORM=NVPFVR
The idiotic or should I say comical Laurent Nicollin says he wants 100M for Cabella… π
That doesn’t say a lot though Ts, my woofa would run rings round Santos….
It was an AST vote and about 700-800 people voted and the percentages were taken from that ,. Hardly a large cross section. Maybe they would be better off taking a vote across the 40000 season ticket holders and then split the vote to the areas of the ground they are in. I would suggest that in the two cheaper bands things might seem different whereas in the corporate and club level parts the support would be firmer.
Thanks Potter, I did wonder how those figures were made up….
you also said your woofa can finish better than OG12 and Gerv… or was it just Gerv? lol
Just Gervinho I suspect Ts… She can certainly dribble better than him….
On a serious note though Cabella is class… Monaco and PSG all want him. It is rumoured FC Munchen are after him to replace Robben too so…
Guess that’s him off to Germany then….
Monaco want capoue too but he says he wants to play abroad to develop as a player… we shall all see if money talks. π but French nationals do not get the tax free benefits of Monaco so…
I can see Monaco turning into FC Anzhi with the locals compalining of being underpaid compared to the imports who do not necessarily stay long in that country…
complaining… even;jeez I need some caffeine in my system
Where have Monaco go all their money from?
Morning Gooners
Morning Rico (where’s my Fiver?)
Great Post…
Yeah, what a great day it was when Dennis signed…
Mind you Pascal Cygan’s arrival comes a close 2nd… π
Wanyama off to Soton then?!
Β£10 million seems a lot tbh…
I’d rather we got the Spanish kid anyway
A new Russian billionaire Dmitry Rybolovlev took over Monaco. He has the tinkerman still in charge…. I expect Mauren-ho to repalce him in 2 seasons again like in 2002/2004
Hi Ak,
Are you referring to Asier? A very cheap Busquet if you like… exceptionally good at reading the game. Not the Makele or PV04 DM some may want though…
I see Mannone is going to Sunderland, does that mean Reina is coming to Arsenal or is Cesar still the one?
That’s him Ginge, a Basque if I’m correct…
My only worry with a player of that age, would be retaining him…
‘Wagamama’ going off to Saints shows what I always say… a lot of football fans fall for the hype. If he was that good or should I say consistent as he was made to be, he would be playing for a CL team instead or even a UEFA cup team… π
Morning Ak, I think you need to start saving π
Brad, I’m still not convinced that a goalkeeper is a priority…
Sir Stevo would obviously disagree… π
Ok, the dentist for me, lata…
Reina is off to Barca isn’t he Bradster?
Good for Mannone though, but if we are dell him, why not in a player swap for Begovic…
Thanks by the way Ak, and π re Cygan, he was good wasn’t he π
Ak, personally, I do not want more than 1 additional ‘Latin’ American or Spainish based player joing us. This league is very challenging; if the likes of OG12 and Poldi can outscore the Argentine duo at $hitty, it should say a lot.
As we know it takes up to 3 months for new strikers to bed-in to the EPL, so I would rather go for someone who can handle the pressure and the weather and the likes of Hughes telling Shawcross to kick the living day light out of attackers… π
Hi Brad, is the Don Vito deal confirmed?
Talking about strikers and their stats… Darren Bent’s stats are higher than even Messi but how many of us will buy a replica shirt of his if he was to join us?
Games played 306 (56);goals 149 that makes it roughly 1 goal in every 2 games
π Ts, not me, mind you, I don’t buy them any more …
A good article explaining why Benteke is preferred to Bent; even though Benteke is not in the same league as Bent when it comes to finishing.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/aston-villa/9709072/Stats-show-why-Paul-Lambert-picks-Christian-Benteke-ahead-of-Darren-Bent-for-Aston-Villa.html
This days strikers have to bring more to the table than just finishing… A reason why Huntelaar is a better finisher but RVP is preferred period!
I still can not understand why AW is not tracking Benteke the 4th highest scoring striker 19 goals playing for AV in a relegation battle? A gooner too…
Got to pop off for an hour or so – few things to do….
Stats on strikers for 2012/2013… very interesting
http://www.thescore.com/epl/stats
Later Rico…
Liverpool paid Carroll around Β£1m to finally say yes to West Ham move… and we complain about financial mismanagement.lol
Has Rooney signed yet….?
Morning all………..
Ha ha ha WATH.. Yilmaz was spotted in Islington sampling some Turkish cuisine thoigh π
And Fergie is going to become the head of the refereeing body ie replacement for Riley; so lets all give up for this season π
I thought Fergie had been head of the refs association for years Ts..? π
Hey ts, nope, it’s what I saw in the daily mail. Thought it was interesting as Minoglet is wanted by Liverpool, they want our 3rd choice and we were interested in Reina. Looks like a real merry-go-round.
i thought Valdes said he wants to see out his last year at Barca and Reina believes he will remain cos he still has 3 years left on his contract, but did the usual spin…”although in football you can never tell”.
He was a consultant in chief previously I believe then WATH… π
Brad, its interesting… he is free I believe so he can do what he wants I guess
Just head of Referees’ association??
Have you never read his CV you turnip heads π
Head of FA Exec.

Good Morning Lady and Gentlemen
Good post Rico.
Morning WATH.
Chief horse breeder too… good day Dev
He used to breed horses Ginge???
I never knew him to be a stud. And to think that he used to father horses!!!!!! Buq. In life you always learn new things. π
Chief Orchestrator and programmer of league fixtures.
Hon.Sultan of Sports writers Association
As Dion Dublin…
Fergie is an advisor to HM herself and the Dubia horse owners too… fingers and toes in every pie or should I say haggis
Chief Lord of the Order of the highest wankers association.
fingers and toes in every pie or haggis???? what….all his twenty one of them?????
Yeuuuwwwwwwggggggg!!!!!!!!
I am eating Ginge.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum the ruler of Dubai even shares a wine or two with Fergie… None alcoholic of course π
Sorry to disagree with the general feeling but the thought of Looney Rooney in an AFC shirt makes me feel physically sick. I put him in the same category as pus like Sheringham and van Nistelrooy. And if anyone thinks he would get away with the same antics playing for us as he does for the Mancs…………
π Dev… I was going to add the chief butcher of the highlands, Fergie prefers the offals but since you are eating I will stop there.
maybe yes maybe no BJ.
But we are discussing Sir Red nose at the moment and his achievements.
Rooney is another story. π
Boo!!
Chief Butcher of……….??????
I’ll wring your neck one day Ginge.
Time for some wine to put my stomach in a pleasant mood. π
Hi Agag.
Ginge is trying to make me nauseatic. Can you kindly use your charms to stop him from flinging Sir Red nose’s offals in my direction??
thanks
rico, the idea of signing Rooney just gives me the heebie-jeebies. π I have spent far too long loathing him I cannot imagine him in our kit. π Surely there’s better. Say, a certain Torres. π
Hi dev and Ginge. One gets the feeling that you don’t like Old Red Nose. π
ahhhhhh you have the heebie jeebies????
I used to think that Goonie used to have that pleasure on you!!!!!
Hiya, Ginge. You do realize that anything that has anything to do with Fergie is revolting, don’t you? π
Phew. that was an exquisite glass of wine.
I am better now.
Hi Dev, sorry had to actually do a bit of work thankfully that’s over with and I won’t have to worry about doing any more until at least August…!
Sorry but Rooney for me all day long, loathe the little toe rag but boy will he make a difference to our team. Him, Fellaini, Higuain and Cesar and we’re sorted.
Dev, you’re as bad as WATH except he drinks everything that has alcohol. π
This Higuain signing is turning out to be the most protracted move in Arsenal history. Get it over and done with AW, and then you can rescue Cesc who’s languishing in Barcelona…
“…I wonβt have to worry about doing any more until at least August…” Showing off, WATH. π
oyyyyy WATH. I do want Rooney at AFC. It was Bob John who was contrary.
Agag………Women are one the most beautiful creations of God………….After MAN and WINE of course.
bobjohn-BJ for short lol..
We signed anyone yet?
and no , no joy on the workfront…im being taken advantage of as a waiter in crappy fish n chip shop..
Afternoon all, DG. Ts, Agag
Not into conspiracy theories but the Man Utd manipulation of referee selection is no laughing matter. It is very clever and as much of a tactic as anything done on the pitch. Red nose used the same ploy with reporters. Any hack asking difficult questions, writing unfavourable match reports or simply not toeing the Fergie line, would get banned from future press conferences at OT. Not good for your career so guess what, guaranteed easy ride. Very clever. No other club could get away with that though.
They have at least a 12 point advantage every season.
PS: Lost my 11-0 bet last night thanks to Torres pen miss. I had a tenner at 12 to 1.
Hi Agag, I loooooooooooove me a rednose.lol
How are you lady?
Hi George… keep your head up buddy… things will definitely look good soon π
Hi Kj
Someone mention Rooney…. π
kj, just maybe for the first time in nearly 20 years Man ure will not start the season with +12 points instead of 0pts like the rest of us…
Hi Lady.
While you were away we were doing some research on Sir Red Nose.
Ginge was his usual irritating self. π while I was eating.
U ok Lady?
Does anyone know anything about Jedvaj of Zagreb? Β£8m for a teenage defender/midfielder is aa bit steep imo…
Not me Rico, Dev was ‘bigging up’ Yao Gerv again. He thinks AFC should not accept less than Β£15M for him if he is to be sold… π
AGAG your sooooooooooooo harsh, I do not i repeat do not drink gin nor ouzo…. disgusting stuff….!
Dev I know you want Rooney mate… π I spoke to Kev earlier and he said he was going up to Cheshire to fetch him…!
As for the workfront AGAG your NEVER at work those permanent holidays are just taking the “p”….! π
WATH you have made a valid observation re Agag and her expensive shoes and 7 star holidays… she either from the Henry Sy Family or AW’s bank manager/accountant. C’mon tell us the truth! π
Dev, I would agree with that statement but replace MAN with coral reefs. π Haha. Hello, lady rico. Howdy?
Ginge, I am okay. How are you? Bought Mrs Ginge her shoes, I hope? π KJ, we will see in the coming season whether Fergie Red Nose will continue to hold sway over refereeing decisions. It can’t be a hard habit to give up; giving Man United all the favorable calls. I am not convinced that this will change. This Manure love seems so deeply ingrained in referees.
I am still saving for those shoes Agag… you did not do me any favours with the 10% coupon tips π
Her b’day is next month, I have still not decided on what to get her yet? She is selling some of her heels on ebay… such a waste of money… what happened to wearing Marks and Spencers or clarks I keep asking her?
I am ok thanks. I need a holiday!
Ginge, I only wish. The Sys just opened a posh mall not too far from where I work. π I’m just not very good at saving. π π
WATH, I just read somewhere that Filipinos are the biggest gin drinkers on earth. π Haha. I will ask rico to send you a photo. It’s pink you’ll like it. π
Ginge, all those big US retailers (Saks, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Barneys) are on 50%-60% off. Go check. The biggest mistake of my life has been signing up to those website updates.
Ts, Agag,
Fergie is still hanging around like a bad smell. Nothing will change. That club has closely integrated itself into the Football Association.
If Rooney signed I hear the makers of the Cabbage Patch Dolls may be prepared to offer additional sponsorship money…………
According to another blog site Perez has sanctioned Higuain’s move without the new manager’s go ahead. Any truth to that?
Let’s equip ourselves with players that’ll just blow everone out of the water…AGAIN! Conspiracy bollocks, get a team that just rolls everyone over!
Bad bad influence Agag… π
Sorry AGAG can’t be doing with that gin rubbish don’t care what colour it is…!
Agreed Lee, if the team is good enough banging in 4/5 goals beats all the cheating that may go on…!
RM need the money to bring in Cavani… they will hold out for as much as they can get imho…
No win is guaranteed though even if you have a starting 11 made up of the very best… one reason only 3 or 4 clubs have been able to go unbeaten in a year…
Cheaters cheat like the Juves and OM cheat to ensure they do even with big spending and far superior squads compared to their rivals…
Ginge, I have just found some supersale for you. And Aperlais, too. The shoes I want are on sale! I have had terrible customs experience shipping from England though. Bummer.
http://www.yoox.com/uk/women/shoponline?dept=women&gender=D&season=E&textsearch=aperlai
Lee, we can start with Higuain and Torres. π
WATH, it’s vodka, silly. π With some fruit. You’ll approve, I’m sure.
Agag you should come to live in the UK and work at Selfridges as a personal shopper for the rich… HH will write you a stellar reference π
π George…
Sorry, doorbell went and so did I…
Hello all…
That’s the way to go Lee….
Agag, you’ll get over having to see Rooney in an Arsenal kit, honest π
Someone in the office just asked me what I am doing looking at ladies shoes? π
Keep your chin up George and stay positive mate. Don’t give up something will happen. On the football front, going to be a great season now we are about to reap some serious rewards.
Agag, Betty Ang is looking like she has a very good relationship with her plastic surgeon π I bet you have more shoes than her though?
KJ, the Cabbage Patch kids are too cute. Dreamworks with Shrek would be more likely. π
rico, I see him, and I always just think green ogre. π
I don’t even know Betty Ang, ginge. Beatrix Ong, I remember, although her shoe house is now dead. π
Betty Ang one of the richest women in your land…
Just been on twitter… This fella normally pretty clued up..!
Geoff Arsenal β@GeoffArsenal
Right. Don’t shoot the messenger.
I asked if Higuain is done as reported by Sky.
I was told. “It’s close”. “Rooney next”.
Blimey.
But even Shrek was loveable Agag π
Good day all.
Who reckons we’ll still be waiting for that big signing on transfer deadline day?!
Fingers and toes crossed Wath…
Looks like you’ll have plenty of news next week π
Lets get them in before the tour so the team can get to know each other…
I am off now my friends. The weekend starts here. Off to hit the shops with the missus.
cu later or tomorrow.
rico, I guess you’re right re Shrek. But Puss n’ Boots was sooo much cuter. Ad he spoke with a Spanish accent. He rather reminds me of a Chav striker. Hahaha. π
Lewis, we’ll get them signed early this time. π One can hope.
Have fun, dev. Don’t be afraid to charge away like AW. π
Hi Lewis
“Who reckons weβll still be waiting for that big signing on transfer deadline day?!”
Just you I suspect π
Sorry guys, a horrible thought.
Cheers Dev, have fun mate and take care…!
I’ll send smoke signals with news for you Rico…!
Imagine how many shirts we’d sell if we have Higuain Rooney and Fellaini on board for the pre-season trips…!
Rico you know Arsenal won’t buy anyone til July saves on June wages π
The vietcongs love Rambo…
Looking at the personalities of the squad I wonder which group Pipita will gang with in the squad… the Spanish, the over 27 y.o’s i.e Tv, BFG, Poldi or the french players?
Later Dev…
Not me Lewis….
See you in a week Devil π
I know Wath, makes sense I guess, tight old devils…
π Agag
Have a good holiday Rico, enjoy the break.
Sky News is reporting that Wayne Rooney missed his scheduled meeting with Arsenal Wenger at the Emirates this morning.
The Sky reporter said: βWe understand that Wayne Rooney called Arsene Wenger this morning and cancelled the meeting. A source close to the Rooneys said: βColleen and Wayne have been up all night trying to complete the Tiger Jigsaw Fergie had bought Wayne as a leaving present”.
Sky News can now confirm that the meeting is back on. It is being reported that Wayne Rooneys agent was seen in their kitchen yelling: βFor heavenβs sake Wayne, get your coat on and put the bloody Frosties back in the boxβ¦β¦.β
rico, that Thpanish lithp is quite charming, you would agree. π
KJ π
You got me there Kj… goog one. phew
A good post looking at the pros and cons of the 2 strikers we have been linked with
http://www.arsenalinsider.com/8841/does-wayne-rooney-or-gonzalo-higuain-suit-arsenal-better/#axzz2WrWwjASZ
Rumour has it that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has 70 million pounds to spend on new players this summer. Rumour also has it that heβs about to sign French-born Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain for some ridiculous fee and could possibly still have some money left over to make an offer to Manchester United for Wayne Rooney. However, if thereβs only enough money for one of these strikers, which one would suit Arsenal the best?
Players of this caliber donβt come along every day of the week so itβs understandable why Arsenal and other clubs are interested in them. Itβs just the way pro sports go even though it means somebody will have to give up their playing time to make way for one or both of them. Wenger, like all other managers, just keep on buying players until they get it right. In a way, it shows the squads theyβve built arenβt good enough at the moment and theyβve made mistakes with players in the past.
Of course, Arsenal brought in forwards Olivier Giroud and Lukas Podolski last year, and moving for reinforcements means these players havenβt lived up to club expectations. This is the unsavory side of football as itβs similar to dating your girlfriend until somebody better comes along and then giving her the boot when they do. When it comes to Higuain and Rooney fans will be able to offer a better opinion on the Man United star since they often see him play week in and week out and have done for years.
Yes, supporters may also watch Higuain whenever they get the chance, but in all reality they probably arenβt as familiar with the 25 year old. What we do know is that he can put the ball in the net on a regular basis. The six-foot-tall Higuain started his career in Argentina with Rover Plate back in 2004 and stayed with the club until 2006 and scored 15 goals in 41 games with them and set up 16 more. He then moved to Spain and joined Real Madrid in the 2006/07 and eventually caught fire by scoring 122 goals in 266 contests.
He also played one match for the Argentine Under-23 team and scored a pair and has 20 goals in 32 matches with the senior side. Higuain scored just 19 goals in 44 games this season though, which is just two more than Olivier Giroud. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho seemed to lose a bit of confidence in him and he wasnβt always a starter as Mourinho often preferred to go with Karim Benzema. Perhaps this is why the striker feels he wants to leave Madrid even though heβs still under contract until at least 2016.
But with Mourinho heading back to Chelsea, perhaps Higuain will honour his contract. Word has it that heβs agreed to a four-year deal with the Gunners though and will be paid anywhere from 130,000 to 150,000 pounds a week. The wages, like all footballersβ are far too high, but compared to Rooneyβs theyβre about 100,000 pounds a week cheaper. If Higuain is indeed signed, itβll be as a centre forward which means heβs going to have to battle it out with Giroud for playing time.
But is he actually better than Arsenalβs French international striker? Higuain isnβt the greatest in the air and heβs often caught offside, which is something heβs going to have to work on. A good centre forward needs to win the areal duels to be successful in the Premier League. Thereβs no doubt that Higuain is a good player, but would he be a better choice than Rooney?
As for Rooney, heβs now 27 years old and can also still put the ball in the net, though maybe not with the same regularity as he could a few years ago. It seems that Rooney wants to leave Old Trafford now that Alex Fergusonβs gone and heβs been replaced by David Moyes, who isnβt exactly Rooneyβs favourite person. Moyes is the manager who often used to leave Rooney on the bench and play him as a substitute when he was starting to carve out a career for himself at Everton.
He moved to United in 2004 and became a fan favourite right away by slamming in a hat-trick in the Champions League against FenerbahΓ§e. In total, heβs scored 197 goals in 400 matches with Manchester, but managed just 16 in 36 games this season while adding four in five games with England. Rooneyβs now considered the second fiddle to former Gunner Robin van Persie and is still young enough to revive his career somewhere else.
Rooney isnβt actually an out and out striker or centre forward. He can be very effective in several different positions and doesnβt mind coming back to help out in his own end. Heβs definitely not lazy and possesses a lot more speed than most fans realize. Being able to play in various positions would be a bonus for Wenger. It would allow the manager to use Rooney as he sees fit depending on the circumstances of each game. Heβd also provide the squad with some much-needed British physicality on the pitch. Heβs more of a power forward than a finesse player and his leadership abilities would be welcomed at the Emirates.
Rooney can score goals with the best of them and also brings a lot more intangibles to a side, including strength and experience. While Higuainβs a fine football player, Rooney just has a lot more to offer and is more of a complete footballer than the Argentine. If Wenger had the opportunity to land just one of these players, Iβd go with Rooney. How about you?

Sky Newsflash: “Colleen Rooney has been spotted looking at properties in Highgate and Hamstead, fueling rumours that footballer Wayne Rooney is headed for the Emirates”.
When asked about her property search, Colleen Rooney was reported to have said, “I am keen to buy a property close to the Emirates Stadium, so I am looking at some small eight bedroom properties. Once I have found something, I will be able to keep my eye on Wayne and see what he is up to, as it would be easy to follow him around London”. The Sky news reporter said “This really is a case of the wag tailing the dog…!”
Just sent another Adam…
Spot on Agag….
Don’t start all that again Kj.. π
Got that one rico.
Rico π
Thought you were a Russian Defector, offski? What time are you leaving.
