High flying Leicester to upset Arsenal? Can Wenger finally beat ‘The Tinkerman’?

Less than an hour before we kick-off against Premier League new boys Leicester, a side who have shocked a few so far this season. Claudio Ranieri is no stranger to English football though having spent time at that awful West London club….

Today’s opposition are unbeaten in the league this season, winning three and drawing three and they sure like to score. In fact they are the league’s highest scoring club together with West Ham on thirteen goals, eight of which have come in front of their home fans.

We on the other hand are struggling to find the back of the net too often so we could have a tough task ahead this afternoon.

But as good as Leicester are doing, they haven’t faced one of the so called bigger clubs yet and if we are to consider ourselves in that category, we should be winning this game with ease and as much as Ranieri’s side like to score, they concede too. Heck, even the Totts managed a goal against them….

As we know, Gabriel misses out today through suspension, Coquelin through injury is side lined too. He’ll be a huge miss.

So, the line-up today is:

Cech, Bellerin, Monreal, Koscielny, Mertesacker, Flamini, Cazorla, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez, Walcott

Subs: Ospina, Debuchy, Gibbs, Arteta, Chambers, Chamberlain, Giroud.

Midweek saw Flamini strike twice to give us victory in the Capital One Cup but today he’ll need to remember why he’s in the side and that’s to protect the back four and be our midfield rock as Coquelin has been so many times last season and so far this campaign.

With City losing 4-1 to the Totts at the time of writing, today is a great day for our boys to close the gap on the league leaders.

Keep it tight, keep it simple and keep it professional. Give the officials nothing to deal with, create the chances and take them.

Apparently Arsene Wenger has never beaten ‘The Tinkerman.’. Time for that to change…

COYRRG’s, three big points on the table, go take them….

    Afternoon Rico and the house

    Good post
We have to win today, we need to take advantage of teams around us dropping points.

  2. Joaquim Moreira says:

I think will be tomorrow… but we play tuesday.
    Get the link now
why not Giroud on the line-up? He doesn’t play Tuesday!

  3. andrewh1313 says:

Afternoon. Premiers opened up, we could be right up there this season with a prolific scorer. Maybe there’s still a chance. Flamini please just be as good as Le Coq and surprise us. Alexis, time for mojo back and score today.

  4. scottfromoz says:

    We will belt them.
Rivo, yep…..the unexplained failure to buy will bite us one day.
Not today, I think……..we are good in shoot outs and this is shaping as one.

  5. Goonster says:

Am ozil’s biggest fan but he needs to start taking the game by the scruffle like his Bremen days. Come on mesut. Sheesh.

  6. Goonster says:

He’s not over dna not by a long shot. We just need to shape up all over the park. Too many bystanders lately. Watch ozil closely. He oozes class.

  7. rico says:

Afternoon Ng, about time he did eh… Lol

Writing off Ozil seems rather odd to me… A world class player…

Thanks Scott, Tommo said similar, he’s loving it although deep down I suspect he hopes we lose. So frustrating not watching….

  8. Joaquim Moreira says:

Leicester shoots … two balls hit the post and the crossbar.
I do not understand why so much time looking for a striker (Benzema or other?), while Leicester has advanced and practical. Is what we need. Someone who can play with guaranties.
Cesh only “woke up” from 15 minutes …
Arteta could be sent off. Metsc may have made an indirect free in the penalty area hit or a penalty …
The referre is bad for both sides.
Arteta has “no legs”. It’s so evident we need another DM, and a central forward.
Fingers crosses for the second half. Those players were played last Wednesday and they will play next Tuesday….

  9. Gunnerdna says:

Rico, the amount of Leicester game I watched this season is irrelevant, check the teams they already played. I watched them against Spurs, Stoke and Swansea.

  10. rico says:

Gdna, I disagree. Without having watched them a lot, how you can label them as you did is based on one thing imo and that’s because they were promoted and who they have beaten. Not really a proper informed judgement imo….

  11. scottfromoz says:

DNA, they’re not top 4 material, but they’re quick, physical and they work hard, so will probably finds in mid table or so.
Can’t see them being in a relegation fight but saying that, injuries can kill the smaller clubs.

  12. Joaquim Moreira says:

    I’m back.
    Second half better then first.
I forgot Leicester was played last Tuesday too.
The first half was very fast. On the second were be more space and without the physical pressure we were controlled the game. However, our players were completely exhausted.
Olympiakos next Tuesday: a crucial game. My concern: another (good) portuguese coach. We were not happy with them… Mourinho, Monaco,…next Olympiakos, Wednesday.

  13. rico says:

I’m off guys, got to get dinner etc and then cheer on the mighty England in the World Cup…..

    Catch up tomorrow sometime….

    Night all..

  14. Malaga gooner says:

Watching the Newcastle, chelsea game, the chavs still looks shaky. Makes you wonder what we would of done to them if Mike dean wasn’t such a cheating cnt

    We were robbed

    Hey joe,

  15. Joe says:

High yourself MG your dead right on Dean have you signed the partition.
But it’s not just dean (cu*t) it’s the whole PMGO (the non offside goal against Liverpool)

  16. Joe says:

I wonder will the great hypocrite have something to say about this referee tonight . remembering this is the poison dwarf who caused a referee to receive death threats al so he’s vlub called a referee a racist.
The press let him spout he’s rubbish and never call him on it

  17. tsgh says:

Hey Goonie. whats all the MA08 bashing? 🙂

The capito at 33 had not started 1 game since October 2014; he did well imho…

    Calm composed and slow.. 🙂

    Hi there Joe

  18. allezkev says:

If you’d offered me, before the game, a 2-2 at St James’ for the Chavs, I’d have snatched your hand off…

With the exception of the ManUtd result, it was bloody good weekend…

    Come On England…

  19. allezkev says:

Ginge, did I read you right…?

Out of the last 44 games where Arsenal have gone behind, they have won only 7…

Is that EPL or all competitions?

  20. Tai says:

    Why is here this lonely?

    Morning Anybody…

    Think of …ifs…

If Ramsey’s goal against Liverpool wasn’t chalked off…

    If Mike Dean’s mother had a miscarriage…

Guess who would be topping the league?

  21. allezkev says:

    Morning All

    Yeah, ‘if’
I hadn’t mistakenly sat in Mrs Adams’ chair,
she wouldn’t have lifted me up,
    threw me over her shoulder
and slung me into the garden…

  22. Joe says:

Rico a mate of mine sent me this piece of information that Arsenal have only won 6% of our games with Dean in charge.
I haven’t checked this stat out but it feels right

  23. rico says:

I read it was something like 3 out of 23 Joe so that does sound about right…

The petition has gone well, wonder if it will do any good….

  24. rico says:

I think s Kev, in fact there are a few players in the PL who are worth watching and not all big names… Shame AW didn’t spot one or two before they moved in the summer…

  25. Wavy says:

I should like a similar score at home next Sunday. Manure need a thumping, they are getting rather too big for their boots! A very average team again this year, but who amongst the big teams have they played? And don’t say the dippers!
5-1 to the Arsenal sounds good to me!

    Morning all.

  26. allezkev says:

Well I can’t see a lot of difference, Rico, between Vardy and Loic Remy, except that the latter has a foreign name and therefore ‘must’ be the superior player…

But many, myself included, wanted Arsenal to sign Remy, and tbh he’s turned out to be very ordinary…

As you say, there are several decent British players plying their trade, some in the lower divisions, who may lack the exotic name, but will instead give you everything for 90 mins a la Ray Parlour…

The left-back at West Ham is a decent defender…

  27. allezkev says:

On a different tack, I most certainly would not play Coquelin against Olympiarkos this week, but save him for ManUre, a far more important game imo…

Arteta can deal with the Greeks…

Wenger has a tricky selection poser as well at centre-back…

Does he go with BFG against the Greeks and Mancs or does he use Gabriel?

Another option I suppose is, he could go with BFG & Gabriel in the Olympiarkos game, giving Kozzer a break before the Mancs?

  28. Gdna says:

Morning all, i have a feeling that Arsenal can win the PL, but if the team is behind the leader by 3 or 4 points in January, will AW think we have enough and ignore the transfer window?

  29. rico says:

Can’t help Remy being a bit player Kev but I reckon you are spot on. I know the suggestion of Austin was laughed at by many but I still think we missed a trick not getting him…

I’d rather 2/3 ‘Parlours’ over a £50 million overrated foreign player any day of the week, unless it was someone like Lewandowski… lol

Gabriel for the Mancs for me, Merts will get caught out imo…

Off for a long walk in the Autumn sunshine so catch up later…

  30. allezkev says:

Leeandowski would be a fantastic addition Rico, but his wife wants to stay in Germany, and as Adam knows only too well, woe betide the man who upsets his better half. 😀

  31. Wavy says:

“And then I woke up and it was all a dream.”
The last line of many a child’s short story! Used usually because the author has know idea how to end their creation satisfactorily!
Is this season, uncertain as it is already, a case in point?
We are now fourth can we rise further? Can the cream reach the top? Can we show ’em? Can we beat manure 5-1? In my dream I believe we can! In reality you are probably right Rico! Your irony is not lost on me! Crucially though, I do believe we can win and, win quite comfortably. The boys from old toilet are only marginally better than Leicester shitty! In fact as a ‘team’ they are poorer, as individuals they are better, and that is the only concession I’ll give them, they do have several very tasty players, individuals that is, but as a cohesive unit they are like flotsam at the back of a boat!
Anything less than a win would be a travesty, imo, of course.

  32. tsgh says:

    Hi Kev,

Sorry about going Awol last night re. your question about stats..

My stats are always spot on unless I have typos. 😛

Also the last time Arsenal won a PL match from a losing position was v Palace in August 2014. The 2 Arteta penalties after he was dropped for Flamini but flamini was subbed at half time; Serge won the penalty that day.

    Hi Rico, Ng and all

  33. Nashua Gunner says:

Lewandowski could make those begging-chances we often missed a reality. Sanchez and Theo on the wings and Ozil right behind Lewandowski. AR SC and Le Coq all three compete for a starting positions.

And all those Hot and Cold one-time-wonder players I would wish them good luck.

Who said Arsenal fans don’t have visions?

  34. Goonster says:

Ts what do you think of this Darmstadt team. They look good but our defense looks all over the place. Where was the marking. Gee come on tuchel sort it out.
