Morning all.
A bit of a transfer gossip round up this morning.
Well well, Martin Zubimendi is reported to have said thanks but no thanks to Liverpool which could be good for Arsenal if Mikel Merino really is a transfer target. Reports yesterday suggested that Real Sociedad were reluctant to let both central midfielders go this summer but with Merino out of contract next summer, if one is to leave, it’s more likely to be him. Hopefully, Arsenal will get the deal done very soon.
Edu has told us that by the end of the transfer window, Arsenal fans won’t be left feeling disappointed. Actually, he told James Green of Sky Sports who has claimed:
Having seen Riccardo Calafiori play against Lyon, if any further signings slot into the team with the same kind of ease, Edu might be right.
With any deal for Eddie Nketiah’s move to Marseille looking dead in the water, Bournemouth have suddenly come into the mix as David Ornstein reports in The Athletic that the south coast club see him as a possible replacement for Solanke. I think Bournemouth would be a good move for Nketiah and bearing in mind Bournemouth have a few pounds in their pocket, they should be able to stump up the fee Arsenal want for him. We’ll see.
Ornstein also reports that Arsenal have recently turned down an approach from Ajax over an initial loan for Aaron Ramsdale. Ajax remain optimistic and are still interested in a move. Arsenal would prefer the England international to move permanently this summer — and have already lined up Espanyol’s Joan Garcia as a potential replacement.
Karl Hein however, has joined La Liga side Real Valladolid on loan for the season.
The next 2/3 weeks of the transfer window could be busy. Chelsea have a massive 43 players in their squad according to Sky Sports. 18 of those players, if over 21, will in all likelihood will have to be sold or loaned out. It would be hilarious if no other club wanted any of their players but that’s unlikely. The nearer we get to deadline day, the cheaper the players are likely to get so there should be a few bargains flying around. I think a number of other clubs have bloated squads too so if what I read is right, it won’t only be Chelsea who are under financial pressure to offload players before the end of August.
Talking about finances etc, reports in most of newspapers this morning suggest that Man City will have to answer their 115 charges sooner than expected as according to The Times and other newspapers, the hearing will go ahead next month. The complex case is expected to last ten weeks. Hopefully, all that will be going on off the pitch will have a negative impact on what happens on the pitch.
Catch up in the comments.
Morning Rico and all,
Just repeating what I said earlier.
Man city case due next month, so if found guilty, does that mean that there penalties will start next season, and if demoted it’s going to be hard to do it once it has started.
Rico your 8.59 was very harsh… 😆
Great post Rico, just how I like it, full of transfer gossip. 😁
Geoff, Man City are certain to appeal, so this case will drag into next year for sure. As Rico commented the constant reporting of the case is going to permeate the dressing room and affect the players, Pep will be constantly asked about in interviews as will the players and maybe opposing fans will pick up on it and give City some stick during games, it’s all good news.
Morning Geoff, Kev.
But true Kev. 😂
The result of the court case is due early next year Geoff so I’d imagine, if found guilty, punishment will be dished out after that. Assuming no legal issues delay the hearing.
Thanks by the way Kev. I too like a bit of transfer gossip, especially when it’s from Ornstein or Romano..
Apparently, the case City filed against the PL and its findings, allowed the case against City to be brought forward which kind of suggests, City lost their case against the PL.
There’s a lot of ‘cases’ in my last.. lol
Everton are thought to be looking at Eddie Nketiah as a possible replacement for Calvert-Lewin if they manage to sell him, but only, as the case maybe, on loan.
There’s still 18 days of this window to go so a lot can still happen.
Zubimendi turning down Liverpool might accelerate the Merino deal?
I think so, apparently R/S have told Merino that they won’t stand in his way to move, it just needs Arsenal to stump up the money if they want him..
Sociedad are thought to want €35m and Arsenal are talking in terms of around €20/€25m. I suspect it could be a deadline day deal…
A bit of a risk to wait really, especially if Liverpool turn his head.
I don’t think Merino will come to us, if we do get any one else it will not be until Eddie and Ramsdale are gone
I think he will Geoff, a winger/forward too..
Good evening everyone.
A good transfer news roundup Rico.
I hope Hein gets enough game time. At Valladolid he will have to contend with two other keepers who at face value it seems they are not that highly rated. So fingers crossed he gets a good amount of games. He certainly has more experience with Estonia having played 30 games with them.
Chavs seem to be partial to goalkeepers. They have have 8 in their squad. Three more and they will could field a goalkeeper 11. I wonder how many handballs would be committed around the pitch.
Soon it will be ‘squeeky bum time’ around the clubs’ transfers. All it needs is just one to dislodge and the rest will fall down like dominoes. I still feel that Merino is ours but Arsenal are biding their time.
now I don’t know if this is just clickbait, if its true or false, but if its true then such a transfer will kill what life football still has. simply disgusting.
Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Vinicius Jr’s representatives have discussed an annual salary of up to $382.5m.
Real Madrid would also expect to receive Vinícius’ buyout clause, which stands at €1 billion.
I’d hazard a guess at click bait Devil
If Wan-Bissaka is worth 15million then Nelson should fetch 20 million at least.
I hope that it is click bait Kev. The sums these days are already out of order, but if it were to go through then it would be disgusting both in terms of wages and in terms of transfer money.
Thanks Devil.
Me too re Hein, a season on loan will do him good .
I read that too re Junior. I think it’s more of Real slapping a stupid price on his head to stop someone trying to buy him..
Can we slap stupid prices on the heads of Saliba, Magalhaes, White, Rice, Saka and Odegaard to stop anyone (Real included) from buying them?
Just a question…..I dont know how to articulate what is circulating in my mind…..but…..do the Arsenal away colours and the Tottenham away colours have a hidden meaning???
Devil unless I am mistaken, Our Pizza away shirt is to do with one of our sponsors ( Visit Rwanda )
Rico, how’s your puppy going with the heat at it sounds like you getting some weather.
If Wojciech Szczesny is a free agent, and we sell Ramsdale, I wonder if Arteta will look at Szczesney who’s 34 years (depending on his match payments) old as a good back up for Raya.
Everything you need to know about our away kit…
